I just want a list of guard counter speed for god's sake. We know that different weapon classes have different speeds for the counters, so why can't I just find this information ANYWHERE in an easy to digest format?

Please someone add the information on this page that you need to press R2 (heavy attack) after blocking to activate guard counter and if done correctly you will get a special sound effect.

Hyper armor doesnt benefit these much, since the attack is generally slow. I'd say giving parry frames on the startup of guard counters would make them much more reliable to use.

Bro no one asked for dmg or speed or whatever the fck they keep buffing this with. Give it some hyper armour for fk sake
- Anonymous
give them hyperarmor so they can act as a counter to mashing

Guard counters can be really good in invasion ganks if you block a spell or attack from one enemy and use the counter to attack another one who isn't expecting the guard counter. With the curved sword talisman it can do some massive damage with colossal weapons.

Give this some hyper armour so I dont have to dress like a dingus to use this in pvp.

God-send in PVE. This move (And wooden greatshield) carries my Faith-build across the game. "Block, Counter, Block, counter, CRITICAL, dead" ...PVP not so much, they roll away.

In PvP, unlock before countering with poke weapons. They'll go over their heads as they roll otherwise.

The fact that both basic axe and hammer guard counters (as well as normal R1s) and can miss enemies at point blank range, yet straight-swords don't have this problem at all, leads me to believe that the devs only test the game with straight-swords. It's been multiple patches, yet this problem persists. Regular axes and hammers don't have enough going for them to justify these weaknesses.

For PvP, Straight Swords (and torches since they share the same guard counter for some reason), Curved Swords and Daggers are fast enough to be used against big slow weapons like colossal crouch pokes. Fists and claws are also fast enough but there's not much of a reason to use those with a shield and they have abysmal blocking by themselves. Most other weapons are too slow on guard counters to effectively use but thrusting swords, small/medium shields, whips, hammers, axes, katanas, and great spears (which have strangely faster guard counters than regular spears) are probably the next best weapons to use.

might need a video showing the shield and 2handed guard counters per weapon class.

Took me 100+ hours to realize you can use guard counters while two-hand blocking with a weapon, you don't need a shield.

from the great/heavy category which one has the quickest guard counter?
- Anonymous
doing a shield only build. would the best mainhand be the shield with the quickest guard counter that also provides the most stagger and damage?
if so anyone know what shield would be best?

These may have hyper armor with two handed weapons. Only 48 poise but I just poised through katana double slash with my two handed guard counter on partisan. Might be a very tight window. Further testing needed.

Please drop the loud, damn ping every time I try to catch someone at the end of their spam. Why do I have to take the time to learn my opponent's attack pattern, what spells they're using, but they get a foghorn warning when I try out mine.

It would be great if guard counters would also deal bonus damage/status effects buildup depending on the shields infusion.
IMO could make shield infusions more viable and maybe even yield some interesting build ideas.

You have to block the attack then, right after the block, press the RT/R2 button (strong attack button) to do the guard counter. Not blocking button after blocking.

Bad description on Guide part, to do Guard Counter:
1. Hold block and takes the blows
2. Immediately press Heavy attack button after enemy weapon struck the shield
3. You will hear a ding sound and counterattack begins.

This mechanic seems really broken. Why would you ever try to parry when you can get an easier riposte while your enemy is still in recovery frames after attacking? You could literally just do this over and over again with each attack until the enemy is dead right? Am I missing something lol
