Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

Poison: 245
Scarlet Rot: 245

Adan, Thief of Fire Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Adan, Thief of Fire:
- Use the ?? Spell
- Bring ?? Item
Melee Users
The biggest challenge for melee players is keeping out of range of Adan's fire spells. Always watch out for the telegraphs. Each fire spell he uses flashes a red circular rune briefly before they are cast, signaling when you should dodge away. His Flame of the Fell God spell has a very long animation and slow travel speed, allowing you to easily maintain a safe distance. Catch Flame, on the other hand comes out very quickly and players will need to be extra vigilant in looking for the telegraph.
Adan's melee attacks aren't anything special, although they do apply the hemorrhage effect. His flail combo has a very long animation and Adan commits to it fully if you are just out of range. It also has low tracking. Use this to your advantage and wait just out of reach for him to whiff the combo finisher before punishing.
He is very easily stunned by heavy weapons, if he is stunned, follow up with 1 or 2 attacks.
Magic and Ranged Users
Adan poses no significant challenge for Magic and Ranged users as they can remain at a distance and avoid most of his attacks. During his Flame of the Fell God casting animation, Magic and Ranged have a huge advantage as they can pummel him with spells from afar. Do watch out for his dodge rolls, however. He uses these to close the distance and often follows up with an overhead smash. He will also end his flail combo early to dodge roll if necessary.
Adan, Thief of Fire Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Flame of the Fell God | Adan raises his left hand, summoning an orb of fire that then travels slowly towards a destination before exploding and setting fire to the ground. Has a large radius and deals massive damage on a direct hit. | The attack has a very clear telegraph and long cast animation. Easily avoided by keeping your distance. |
Catch Flame | Adan releases a burst of flame directly in front of him. This is usually used when in melee range. | The attack comes out very quickly but is telegraphed by a red circular rune. Dodge backwards or to the side when you see the rune form. |
Overhead Swing | Adan swings his flail downwards, smashing directly in front of him. Often used following a dodge roll. | Dodge sideways. |
Wild Strikes | Adan swings his flail wildly from side to side 7 times and then finishes off with a spinning strike. | Easily exploited. Adan does not stop once he begins this animation if you remain just out of reach. Keep your distance and consider using Impaling Thrust, or other heavy attacks, when his combo finishes. |
Adan, Thief of Fire Lore, Notes & Other Trivia
- According to the spell he drops, he apparently stole the knowledge of the Flame of the Fell God incantation from Chief Guardian Arghanthy in the Mountaintops. This explains how he is able to use it in combat. The Monks chased him to the land of Liurnia, which explains their presence in the area.

Got him today as my very first boss fight in Elden Ring, gotta say, kind of terrible, easy af to beat with it only boiling down to being willing to wait a lot, I didn't even level a single time nor did I upgrade any weapon, it almost felt like the First dragonrider from DS2 but more annoying

I beat him at level 37 after 3 tries on first playthrough. you can probably beat him way earlier, he hits like a truck but his attacks are REALLY EASY to dodge, and he don't have much health

There is a much faster route to his Evergaol. From the Laskyar Ruins Site of Grace go South-South-East until you see a Spiritspring. Use it to jump up the cliff and you will be at the Evergaol.

Ok yea yea "Mid boss" and whatever, but you gotta admit "Thief of Fire" is one badass title.
- Anonymous
"poses no significant challenges to Ranged". Except he dodges every single spell I throw at him. Granted I only have a couple spells but there are VERY few windows of time where I can hit him without him dodging with Glintstone shard..

Remove his hyper armour already.
If we aren't allowed to trade hits, he shouldn't be either.

breaking news in the lands between: a redditor has been seen taking a fire from the fire monks his name is adan.

it's an NPC in elden ring, equip any ash of war that's good for pvp and time charged attacks with his and he dies, that's really all there is to it

And here im trying to parry him and failing miserable lol, "my time cannot be so wrong"

All the fire monks are in the Lands Between just because a fat guy stole a torch? In terms of ridiculous lore that's almost tied with the cannon that got brought to Volcanon Manor but nobody knew how to fire it.

in greek mythology, Prometheus steals fire from the gods and is subsequently chained to the rocks as punishment for his transgression

By far the second most memorable From Software boss to date, just behind Soldier of God, Rick. The build up to fighting him, his intro cutscene, the fact that he has 10 phases, and the voice acting is just supreme.

Apart from Madness, even though he's not extremely weak against Holy damage, Sacred Blade stunlocks the sh*t out of him, and the whole boss pattern becomes: Sacred Blade hits him, he rolls, Sacred Blade hits him again, he staggers. Took care of him in 5 or 6 hits.

300 hours in and only just learnt of this guy's existence.

He's so weak to madness, I used Frenzyflame Thrust with Vyke's War Spear and it took more than half his health.
- Anonymous
For those wondering, he is wearing the altered fite prelate set except for the helm.
- Anonymous
This dude is fascinating. He's the only non-reused Evergaol boss, he actually has lore significance to the area being the one who made all the Fire Prelates come to Liurnia, and he's apparently important enough to have stolen the equivalent of the Dead Sea Scrolls from his religious leaders.
And he's just a lil fat guy with a flail

I just like bosses like this guy
And npc invaders cause it gives me a use for inescapable frenzy outside of pvp
- Anonymous
Its kinda sad that there a few people complaining about this guy of all bosses, like i know different people have a hard time with different things, but this guy just seems embarrassingly easy regardless of what build you are, and i say that as a complete scrublord casual who is far from good lol
- Anonymous
I like how Evergaol bosses are either shockingly hard, or a complete joke with almost nothing in between.
- Anonymous
**** him, he BM's me after every death just spamming his op as **** fire spell

Dispite the heavy armor, can be very easily staggered, Regalia of Echoaid is amazing at this, same with greatswords
- Anonymous
He has the same type of frame as the Fire Monk Prelates, is it possible he was part of the Fire Monk order when he stone the incantation, But was stripped of his robes and weapons when he was imprisoned in the Evergaol?

I only got around to this a day or two ago, so I don't know if he has been nerfed. But I went to his evergaol expecting the worst, I use fire incantations a lot so I know the sort of damage they can do, but I was disappointed with this boss fight to be honest. I thought he'd be hard as nails and would be a fun fight. It wasn't much fun in the end though, I hit him with two or three freeze pots and a couple of hits from a +6 great-sword and he was done for. I didn't see or get to try dealing with either of his fire incantations or all the mlee attacks listed on this page. Before anyone says it, I'm not over-levelled for Liurnia, his health bar just seemed to melt to the freezing pots.
- Anonymous
Immune to stunlock, apparently. He'll randomly cancel out of it and immediately hit you with that Catch Flame attack that has no delay or startup time at all.

For someone who's apparently stolen the flame monk's fire, he's very weak compared to his former allies lol

Dragonice + 2x Dragonclaw killed this guy in about 5 seconds.

Ok after getting whooped using a falchion I brought out my hoarfrost halberd.
Using any long-range melee weapon with a lunge attack seems to do the trick. Just poke poke at max distance and he kept trying to close it.

Hoarfrost Stomp on a decent Katana turns this guy into a joke

Started a new character as Prisoner and faced him after v1.04, I think they improved his AI, he constantly dodge my Glintstone Pebbles, he'd stop his casting animation to dodge, so I basically landed 0 GB on him after fighting him multiple times, and he is super aggressive, non-stop charging me. It's insane.
I threw 4 sleep pots at him and he only staggered. Just FYI as this enemies info is missing.

In ng+ I used inescapable frenzy incantation (the one that grabs) and it one shot him. and you can get it off as soon as he walks out of the mist, it's super funny to see this "boss" get his health absolutely demolished.

the impaling thrust skill that most spears have at base does wonders against this guy, knocks him out of his attacks and closes the distance easily. i beat him with a +0 short spear, just hit the skill whenever theres a break in his attacks.
- Anonymous
I though this was a joke character. I previously did very hard Crudible Knight evergaol where I had to learn parrying and was waiting a super hard enemy, but there spawned just a small fat guy who started instantly swinging his weapon like Lisa Simpson in that one episode. "I will swing my arms like this, and if you get hit ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!"
- Anonymous
For cosplaying purposes, he uses:
Presumably the Fire Monk Hood
Fire Prelate Armor (Altered)
Fire Prelate Gauntlets
Fire Prelate Leggings
The normal Flail
Seal of your choice
Flame of the Fell God
Catch Flame

Just hit him and back off when he's doing his fire moves. They're laughably short ranged.

Took some embarassing deaths by being one-shotted by his two handed attack. Fight is preatty easy though, I spammed Square Up with R2, he does not dodge at all and gets almost stunlocked.

If you have Rogier's Rapier, this boss seems almost incapable of dodging the Glintblade Phalanx skill. Spam it until he dies. 90% of them will connect.

Didn't find any summons nor could I get spirits to help me on this boss... Althought he has heavy armors, his poise is pretty low and you can stutter lock him by swinging heavy blade to interrupt all his attacks, spells and even flask.
- Anonymous
He only uses flask once. If he tries again, it plays the empty animation. You can just backpedal until he does the flail combo, wait until the last overhead jump hit, then walk around and backstab. Repeat until dead.

As a longbowman with no magic at all... I found.. like invaders he dodges every arrow like magic.. but if you run him around in circles there is an outcropping of rocks he gets stuck on. You can then range him down with arrows to the head or magic i suppose without much risk of him getting anywhere near you. He does on occasion roll right and gets out of the little trap but its a simple matter to run him around in a circle until he gets stuck again. He will roll behind the rock dodging a lot but I have noticed he has multiple "walking/running animations" during his slow waddle phase he will take an arrow in the face like stuffing twinkies. Also when he is locked into a cast he magically shifts a half foot to the right but will take an arrow to the face also. :)
super cheese. :)

Easiest to use r2 when he's running at you with a long sword. It doesn't miss unless your timing is off and he never dodges it. Basically can be killed with this tactic.

Very weak to lightning damage, pretty easy to just out-range him and use lightning spear to whittle his health down.

Heavy attacks can interrupt his flask, just a very small window to do so. so far ive only seen him drink once, when he tries again hes locked into a failed drinking animation
- Anonymous
I recommend using phalanx magic against him as he dodges pebbles all day.
- Anonymous
You can’t summon anything for the evergaol fights, not even the ashes
- Anonymous
You can just treat this guy like any invader NPCs, also he can get staggered by heavier weapons too
- Anonymous
More like Adan, Thief of Camera. Can't see anything with his goddamn fire orbs floating around
Too drunk to figure out how to edit -- but I wasn't able to summon ash spirits. Recommend using range since he has this cheap up close fire blast he does. When he casts his long range fire ball spell and when he starts swinging his flail around like its a num-chuk hit him with something long range. Pretty easy fight

I don't think multiplayer is allowed. I summoned a guy next to the arena and I couldn't enter the flight. He probably thought I was being an a**hole
