Ant's Skull Plate is a Greatshield in Elden Ring. The Ant's Skull Plate is a Shield that scales primarily with Strength. Greatshields provide a greater value of blocking, protecting the player from enemy attacks, but greatly increase the weight while reducing the mobility of the player. This type of shield works best at reducing damage through guarding instead of by parrying.
Huge head of one of the giant ants which inhabit the two underground rivers, used without modification as a shield. Excels at repeling enemy attacks.
Giant ants are venomous creatures, granting a boost to immunity when wielding the shield.
Where to Find
The Ant's Skull Plate Shield can be found in a chest in a small room in Nokstella, Eternal City. Head West from the Eternal City Site of Grace, and up the first set of stairs. Make a left before the large arch, into the room with a Nox Swordstress facing a large chest. The shield is in a smaller chest to the right of it.Elden Ring Interactive Map Link Here

I mean, would it have hurt to at least give it D ARC scaling?
- Anonymous
So when is the additional hardness useful? I mean, other greatshields have tier 2 and this has tier 3, so against what weapons and//or enemies does this shield give you an advantage over other greatshields?
- Anonymous
Yeah this would nope me tf out if I was actually in the Lands Between. Although that can probably be said for many things on this game.
- Anonymous
Oddly, believe this shield of the lot, actually has a higher "hardness", than any of the others (deflect/flinching attackers). 3 vs? 2 from GS, can't remember off hand

I don't care how strong it is, i will not use the head of a giant ant as shield.
- Anonymous
god be my witness I SHALL BE HARDIER THAN THE LITERAL WALL HOLDING LEYNDELL
- Anonymous
this offers higher hardness than other greatshields, making it a good counter to lighter weapons
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Should inflict deadly poison like all the other unique poison weapons do.
- Anonymous
Im surprised this doesn't do rot instead of poison, since the ANTspur does rots

I was looking at the Hardness page & this Shield is the only one in the Game that is Tier 3.
AKA: This thing Repels Great Swords, Cruved Great Swords, Greataxes, Hammers, Great Spears, & Fists.
All other Great Shields are Tier 2.
Barricade AoW & Ironjar Aroumatic count as Tier 4.
- Anonymous
I take it this inflicts the weakest variant of poison since it doesnt specifically say deadly poison… too bad seems it could probably benefit from having that

Fromsoft fell off, back in my day this would have inflicted arbitrary poi-
Well I’ll be damned

Great shield enjoyers use this over the stone finger print shield ANT PROTECT ME!

an interesting tidbit is that the Ant skull plate have higher hardness than all other greatshields (3 instead of 2), which mean, for example, than a 1h greataxe will bounce off of it instead of hitting normally like it would do on another greatshield.
- Anonymous
Like many of the weaker greatshields, outdone by much lighter medium shields like Brass or Banished Knight that have nearly identical Guard Boost, much better weight, and the ability to parry. But the Ant Skull Plate is unique by its ability to deflect anything that's not two handed or a giant weapon.

What could have been a great shield is ruined by not being able to equip shield crash on it.
- Anonymous
great idea for a shield but this thing looks like some nasty squished bug not a piece of carapace, burn it with fire
- Anonymous
Wish it was ashable. That's like the one thing that keeps it from being great.

Imagine dying and the a*whole who killed you uses your forehead as a shield
- Anonymous
Does the shield apply poison when we hit an enemy with shield bash? or when the enemy hits it?
- Anonymous
So did a little more testing of the deflection properties. Replicated the first person's test vs the Limgrave knights and got the same results, but couldn't deflect the heavy attacks of banished knights like the one outside of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. It does seem to have an increased deflection property in PVE, albeit a minor one. Can also confirm this has no impact on PVP, doesn't deflect any attacks like dragonbolt blessing does.

CAN NOT be infused using ashes of war. default skill and scaling is the only possible version of this shield

Upon testing, I have found that the Ant's Skull Plate description about it being good at repelling enemy attacks is not just filler. There is apparently a hidden shield stat that triggers the "repel"/"knock back" animation for enemy attacks, and this shield is high in it. I tested on the guardsmen near the Church of Elleh; they have a charged up downward slash attack that most greatshields will not repel. This one does. It is also not related to Guard Boost, as a Guard Boost 73 Eclipse Creat Greatshield I had was not repelling, whereas this one WAS at Guard Boost 63. Even the extremely heavy One Eyed Shield or Visage Shield do not repel that particular attack, but this one does. Feel free to test for yourself.
