Turbo bad like bad bad. Just use death poker even with no str/dex. DP does more damage more frost, fashion and movesets are not bad. This ash is not worth trading weapon variety for.
Don't believe what me and others said? Try it yourself and you will be just like us all in the end.

why did From copy paste Ghostflame Ignition, then remove half of it's damage? I hope they both buff the damage and change it to be different so Deaths Poker has an actually unique ash.

I've never felt so betrayed by an AoW as I was with this one. I knew going in that it performed poorly compared to Ghostflame Ignition, but the comments saying that it procced their weapon's statuses as well gave me hope for my INT/FTH frost reset build using a combination of Ghostflame and Black Flame. The idea was to use the Vulgar Militia Shotel (for y'all wishing Ghostflame Call could be put on a scythe, this is as close as you'll get to that) paired with Black Flame Blade in order to have the Ghostflame trail apply the %HP DoT while constantly resetting frost procs, which would've hopefully made up for the damage loss compared to Ghostflame Ignition.

The comments lied. It's not the Ghostflame that does the status procs, it's the weapon detection. My setup only applied Black Flame on the two initial swings, which admittedly did decent damage on the sewer Omen, but made it pretty much useless for what I was trying to accomplish. I also tried it with a Frost infusion instead to see if the weapon detection could somewhat compete with the original in terms of frost buildup, and while it did somewhat increase the raw damage of the trail, I was equally disappointed by the results.

Some additional notes: while the damage and frost buildup of the respective Ghostflame trails are magnitudes apart, the difference between the explosions isn't nearly as bad. If that's the one you're primarily using, the increase in range you get from using a long weapon (like the Vulgar Militia Shotel) miiiiight be worth the trade-off. PvP enjoyers be warned tho, while the initial thrust is the same on all weapons, the follow-up is noticeably slower to go off if you're using anything slower than a greatsword (again, like the Vulgar Militia Shotel), so assuming you hit a player with the 1st part, I'm not certain the follow-up will naturally roll-catch like it would with the Death's Poker.

          • I tried to get a weapon with same physic and magic damage that matches exactly Death Poker. And then I infused it with this Ash of War, it does about 40~41% damage comparing to Death Poker. Even if you use this Ash of War on colossal swords with the highest AR, Death Poker will always do way more damage and more frost build up. It's just like comparing Sacred Ring of Light with Miquella's Ring of Light.

Here's a revised skill description of what we should.hsve gotten:

This Ash of War grants an armament the Cold affinity and the following skill:

              "Ghostflame Resurgence":

Stand ready with the armament, reigniting it with ancient ghostflame. The blade is bathed in ghostflame, adding magic damage to attacks with a chilling cold bite.

From this stance, each attack causes Putrescent to leak across the ground, igniting with ghostflame wherever it touches. This allows you to set the ground ablaze with each strike, building up a searing path of ghostflame that devastates foes with both holy and cold flame.

*Usable on swords and spears (small armaments, twinblades, and backhand blades excepted).

This version incorporates the Putrescent effect, adding a dynamic element to the skill where each attack spreads and ignites ghostflame across the battlefield for a short time.

I never understood why ghostflame didnt have holy damage for undead since it was used to burn death. But maybe this was before the outer gods influences eere sealed behind a great rune.

Put this on a bloodfiend fork with standard scaling for a strength arcane build.

Now you get magical blood ice flames with arcane scaling. Not broken but interesting for sure.

The fact they added this AoW only to make it get outperformed by other magic AoWs that you can obtain way earlier in the game is criminal. I understand the AoW not being as powerful as the one on Deaths Poker, but this trash is downright horrendous and it’s depressing to see. On my knees praying that next patch they make it AT LEAST somewhat worth using

                  • Anonymous

How did this not get buffed in the recent patch? It's worthless. Nobody uses it. It's so bad it feels bugged.

                    • Anonymous

Honestly wish we got a mixed Fth/Int scaling infusion, basically like quality but for magic builds. Would be neat to have more viable weapons than just Sword of Night and Flame. Hell, could've had a Frenzy infusion too, same thing.

                      • This AoW is just such a disappointment. i can understand the reduced frostbite build up on the Ignition flames, since a frost infused weapon does like the double of the frostbite build up per swing, but to reduce the R1 flame damage by 75% and the R2 flame damage by 50%! What is the point then?

                        • Anonymous

It’s kinda cheeks unfortunately. 600 damage or so on explosion (though sometimes I could get it to 1k if everything hit point blank).

In comparison, chilling mist does 1500 and buffs your weapon. I just can’t see a reason to use this as a result. It looks cool but seems quite weak.

                          • Anonymous

It also can't be used on the Smithscript weapons. I think it's because of them having special R2s, since it's the same situation with Flame Skewer, but I don't really know why Warcry can be used but this can't.

                            • Anonymous

If you reeeeeally don't want to put points in int and use the aow of Deaths poker on a different weapon type. Personally I think no frost build up is an oversight/bug but it does do good damage, just less overall because... you know, no frost

Can't put it on the Grave Scythe. Can't put it on the Sacrificial Axe. Can't put it on Raptor Talons.

                                MIYAZAKIIIIIII

This AoW has to be bugged. Only hitting people at level 150 for ~250 damage with the explosion with 50 dex/int on a cold infused GK.

Hey y'all. I know I am not the only one who had this issue with this AoW disappearing from my inventory. Have you reported this as an issue to Bandai Namco as I have and if I am the only one who has this problem, it likely won't get fixed as their customer service will think I must have accidentally sold it to a merchant or something instead of it being some kind of glitch.

                                    • Anonymous

It appears to scale with primarily intelligence, with dexterity contributing at about half the rate of intelligence.
(Magic Infusion had roughly the same damage output at ~30 intelligence to Keen Infusion at ~70 dexterity.)
It also has a hitbox for the "poke" motion, unlike Death's Poker, so hitting an enemy with the startup animation can net you a bit extra damage. Interesting quirk.

On my character with 76 dex and 16 int, Ghostflame Call actually did *more* damage than the Death's Poker (accounting for the extra hit), with a caveat; frostbite buildup. The frostbite buildup for the death's poker is much, much better than Ghostflame AoW regardless of affinity, which can result in higher total damage.

So then, when should you use Ghostflame Call instead of Death's Poker?
Well, any decent amount of levels into intelligence will result in Death's Poker outperforming it, and the frostbite buildup is always better on Death's Poker.
                                      So the only case in which Ghostflame Call is the better option is;
                                      against frostbite-immune enemies (what)
while using a dex build with-little-to-no int investment
                                      ...

those are the only cases in which Ghostflame Call genuinely outperforms Death's Poker as an AoW stick.
Even the lowest int of 7 can equip stargazer heirloom an meet the 11 int requirement of Death's Poker as a purely frostbiting tool.
And, even though you can use a Keen Infusion with Ghostflame Call and buff it with a fire grease to instantly reset frost, the much greater buildup of Death's Poker will result in more frost procs overall, given you can just use a fire offstoc or something.

This AoW is in a very weird place.

It appears weaker than ghostflame ignition. However, with a weapon buffed with bloodflame blade, i saw the bloodflame effect on enemies that were in the fire trail...

I teleported back to Gravesite Plain lategame (just started last dungeon) and suddenly got this as loot, now I have two of the AoW as the bird was already dead...ok then.

there's no way this isn't bugged because it deals a third of the damage of ghostflame ignition even on the clayman's harpoon.

                                            • Anonymous

I'm guessing this one might scale with Dex + Int like the other Cold AoWs that lack a weapon hitbox. So maybe this'll be better on a Dex/Int build than on a Death's Poker build pumping only Intelligence?

                                              • Anonymous

I was a bit sad I wasn't finding much to fit my Carian Figid Flame build. There's some great loot, but doesn't fit my RP. FS looked out with this AOW. Put this on my Zweihander, and it out performed Death's Poker no buffs (Str/Int). Z's scaling, pose dmg, reach, and moveset alone was great. Now it's a monster. Just jumped RGS, Darkmoon, and Helphen in the rotation. It's not my strongest weapon. But with this AOW, it's definitely my most versatile with my playstyle.

                                                • Anonymous

Yeah let's take this unique ash of war and make not unique anymore oh and put it on an enemy we already reused 5 times in the base game

                                                  • This definitely isn't a direct copy of Ghostflame Ignition. I did a side-by-side with Deaths Poker and this AoW on Rogier's Rapier (because it has really good Int scaling when Magic infused) and the Death's Poker version did almost 4x as much damage with the explosion. Ghostflame Ignition scales exclusively off Int afaik; if this new AoW is the same then the scaling must be much worse, otherwise it must scale in a different way. Guess we'll have to wait for the dataminers to figure it out.

                                                    • Anonymous

Given that this is weaker in all regards, guess that means deaths poker stays in my weapons. Shame, was hoping to consolidate

                                                      • Anonymous

Through very limited testing, it seems like this does not build up frostbite, at least when infused with magic. It is a bummer. That being said, the AOW is decent. It's not going to do anything crazy but has some nice versatility. I'm just happy we have a death based AOW to work into other normal weapons

                                                        • Anonymous

This is a welcome AOW, considering Ghost flame Ignition only scales with Int, while Int is the lowest scaling stat on the Death Poker.
