is there any benefit using this on a greatbow over the through and through AOW?

At this point the only arrow AOW that breaks through enemies shrieking is Mighty Shot, I was hoping to have an equivalent for greatbows with this AOW. At least through and through you can hit multiple enemies at a time if you line the shot up strategically…

I just hate the tarnished's voice acting. Urgh it's so annoying for shout AoW and incants.

WARGH. WARGH. WARGH. WARGH. All day long.

As a few others have stated, the following is not correct: "Note: you will MISS this Ash of War if you do not summon him to fight Bayle. He will still die at the above location, but will not drop the Ash of War."

If you have spoken to Igon, and gone through his quest steps, his bow drops, and includes this AoW, whether he is summoned or not.

I believe that the note stating you have to summon Igon is wrong. I didn't summon Igon for Bayle, yet I still got the greatbow with the ash of war.

This stupid piece of garbage ash of war goes right through walls somehow I hope this dumb cheese gets nerfed into the ground

              • Anonymous

If only my tarnished could be as cool as Igon. Why can't I scream at the top of my lung "CURSE YOU, BAYLE!" or "WITH A HAIL OF HARPOONS" every time a shot a great arrow?

                • Anonymous

Honestly a really weak ash. If your goal is to kill dragons you're much better off using Rain of Arrows with the harpoons than this, much more damage.

                  • Anonymous

Anyone else having a problem using the AOE of the Golem Arrows with this? Does not do the AOE damage at all no matter the distance. Also, the Golden Arrow buff does not apply with the ash of war used.

                    • Anonymous

Should really fix this page, if you kill him when you first come across him you dont get the ash you have to do the whole quest.

Why does Fromsoftware hate bows and shields? Either put them in the game and make them useful or don't and make something else instead. I'm using the faith bow with 2 talisman buffs, 2 spell buffs and 2 flask buffs and the skill damages like a zwei R1 (35% of a DLC bird's HP), but with less stagger, twice as slow and with way more preparation and FP costs, and my build is focused on dex and faith.
What is the point? Cheese? Why pretend like it's a normal weapon, why give it a usable moveset, why make it mobile if it's gonna hit like peanuts delivered via elevator. And somehow, I think the int bow is even worse because it has E int scaling and less magic damage.
A weapon should be effective without buffs, not barely effective after the 6th buff. And with how aggressive things are in Elden Ring and especially the DLC, you can't even substantially argue that bows are a safer weapon, you could say that for light bows and they deal little damage to compensate. It doesn't make sense that if you pick something like a Greatsword you won't need to worry about a being underpowered even once in your playthrough but with bows it's all buffs or nothing. Where's the balance? Bows already have to farm arrows, bows already can't use a second weapon. And spells are fine generally, so why not bows? It's also very unbalanced, Barrage and Rain of Arrows are great when applicable, but the rest of the bow things are bad and, AND THEN THERE'S SKY SHOT

I have tested this skill and it deals 20% more damage than "Through and Through". However....
                          1) The Golemgreat bow (max AR greatbow) cannot be infused with Ashes of War (f*** me Fromsoft), and the base dmg of Igon's Greatbow is 19% lower ... so the skill damage is roughly the same (
                          My testing:
                          Igon+25 +Through and Trhough = 2380 damage
                          Igon+25 +Igon's Drake Hunt = 2838 damage
                          Golem greatbow+10 + through and through = 2926 damage
                          2) Idon's greathunt costs 13 FP instead of 9 FP, so that means 44% more FP use
                          3) The yelling each time the skill is used is annoying af. Do not recomend

                          • I've been roleplaying as Igon, Coop on all types of bosses with weak spots like the scadutree avatar or BAAAAAAYLE and just spamming this, you basically don't get aggro so u can just shoot from afar and do tons of headshots:

talismans: both arrow stings, shard of alexander & last is fill
56 str, rest in dex and endurance as needed might go a bit into faith or int look for some fun spells to add on top

                            • Tested this AoW on a Greatbow vs the Golem Greatbow (which has Through and Through) as both of which had fairly close AR.

99 STR and 99 DEX with Shard of Alexander and the two arrow damage boost talismans.

Result was the Golem Greatbow did quite a bit more damage still, likely due to its better scaling. So it’s probably better to invest in the Golem Greatbow over this AoW for late game but likely this’ll be better until that point.

This skill is really fp cost efficient (rain of arrows costs way more and fails since a lot dragons move way too much) and the damage increase is huge especially when you hit the dragon head
On coop you can keep shooting and sustaining damage the whole fight (doing this you probably damaged more the dragon than anybody else) and taking aggro from those on melee range which is good for healing

I got this without summon Igon (my bias brain hate summon lol)
I fight 2 dragon before Bayle and found Igon laughing nearby , I talk to him and he said let him fight Bayle and give a something finger.
I fight Bayle but not summon him , I go to see him again at the location I found he laughing after kill 2 dragon and he dead.
I loot the bow with this ash , his armor , his bell (for arrow).

Did fromsoft do an update? I originally had Igon's Drakehunt on the bow and now its just Through and Through....

                                    • Anonymous

How do I get this then? It wasn’t on his greatbow, and I really don’t want to go through ng+ just to get an ash for one weapon.

                                      • Anonymous

I tested again, you don't have to summon igon for the bayle fight for this, you just need to kill the two drakes and have him ask you to summon him. then this will be on his greatbow.

                                        • Anonymous

This things funny cuz it gives you poise when you're firing. It's like Millwood baiting from DS3 but on steroids.

I killed Igon at first meeting and the bow didn't have this ash attached so be warned. Could be a bug, could be you need to do his quest appropriately.

                                            • Anonymous

I just killed igon on another character where you first see him, still doesn't have the ash of war. I think you have to summon him for the fight to get this specifically, which is kind of lame...

                                              • Anonymous

I didn't interact with igon on my playthrough (besides the screaming part when you first see him) and killed bayle. I then still was able to get the greatbow, his set, and bell bearing, but the bow didn't have this ash of war on it.

                                                • Anonymous

Would be good to know whether this is boosted by the Roar Talisman and by extension, the Highland Axe as well.

I am not able to test myself but the description suggests that it is a roar.

                                                  • Anonymous

I havent obtained the weapon yet, but someone needs to check if it works with the roar medalion (which I assume it does). I have a feeling that this ash of war will be able to hit like a railgun if you use the right set up.
