I'm really glad I didn't try a perfume build until after they nerfed this, since apparently cheesing with pre-nerf rolling sparks ruined some of y'all's ability to enjoy the game afterwards.

I think in retrospect they nerfed it too much. The real fix for the outrageous damage would have been to put a limit on the number of explosions that could hit a single target on a single ash use. Maybe allow 3 (or 4) hits, but each hit deals respectable damage. This way, its not useless against a group of smaller enemies where 5 enemies in a line get hit by a single explosion each. For reference, certain spells already work this way, bestial sling can hit with up to 2 projectiles, Flame, Fall Upon Them can only hit a single target with 3, as an example.

Perfume as a weapon type was never what we wanted. What we wanted was a bellbearing that let us buy the perfume ingredients. That’s all we wanted..

          • Anonymous

I can confirm that this is still super strong, it does more than 10k damage in one cast with the right setup on big bosses. It's not supposed to work well on small targets where only a couple of the bursts hit.

            • Anonymous

this was completely broken in both pve and pvp. it's still amazing on large bosses and enemies. idk why you guys are complaining, it's a literal glass bottle full of gunpowder, it's not supposed to one-shot god with a single button press

Why don't nerf every single buff making the game haaaaard for everyone and everyone need to git gud. I don't get the praise Fromsoft gets.

                • Anonymous

They overnerfed it, now it just doesn’t deal enough damage even with fully stacked buff. Perfume build was a great addition to the game but now they don’t have any viable AoW and the perfume damage is also very underwhelming

Umm....did anyone else have the problem where the ash of war doesn't actually do the right ash of war? Like, it SAYS I have this ash of war on, but the effect is just Wall of Sparks instead.

                    • Anonymous

I blame the elden ring YouTube's for the nerf. Hell, they even nerfed wall of sparks, which most people didn't even use to begin with.

I really don't understand making something that you have to build around completely useless. Especially when it was a DLC weapon.

This was god awful cheese, I didn't co sign while broken. That said ... These gaming companies and their over nerfing... You spent time and resources making something for your game to nuke it to useless.. wasting all your investment.... Never makes sense to me

                          • Anonymous

Definitely one of the greatest lore style ash and buildup for something that’s been coming since ds1.. a weapon for consume runs.. but to nerf this as well??? Cmon… fix the bug yes… but hit it with a nerf bat was not needed. Fixing the bug would drop its dmg more then enough, y’all nerfed due to public outcry of people being dramatic.. if that’s the case please nerf ALL DLC weapons and AoWs if y’all wanna play that.

The closest skill to actual fireworks was nerfed on the 4th of July. COINCIDENCE?! Yes. Amusing? Just barely..

I just tested this out post patch. The rolling sparks now does about 30% less damage than a regular attack against targets that aren't massive yet stationary enough to receive multiple hits from it.

I could understand them patching the fact hitting the floor would stack the explosions causing it to nuke anything that comes near you, but even when using it the intended way it did good damage pre-patch, a little over double the damage of a normal attack per explosion so if there was a hallway full of enemies, you should shoot it down the hall (which is what I imagine its intended for) to do good damage to the enemies there. Now it's better to just wait for the enemies to clump up in front of you and use regular attacks.

They definitely over-corrected on this one. The bug needed to be fixed, but they didn't need to nerf the ash on top of fixing the bug.

I wouldn't have minded them nerfing this of they had at least buffed perfume attacks themselves as they are now they're completely worthless sad that fromsoft only ever focuses on nerfing broken things but never buffing weapons that need it too.

                                    • I thought: what the hell oneshot me in one of my lvl15 invasions? Then it hit me. This is so broken at any invasion level it's actually really fun. If you wanna rush dlc at lvl 15,be sure to grab it - all the goldies did it already

as silly as it is i still hope they don't nerf as it's useless in pvp and there are plenty of even sillier bossmelt builds in this game

does anyone know if you can get this without getting the message that a great rune has been broken? is it too close to the Shadow Keep?

                                          • Anonymous

I found a bug. When you use the Golden Vow ash of war, this ash of war deals no damage, literally just doest nothing

                                            • Anonymous

I'm 99% sure that this thing being able to nuke is unintended or a glitch, because I simply can't imagine Fromsoft putting in a skill that can 1shot a boss with minimal buffs on purpose. This thing doesn't need a nerf, it needs a FIX. I think it should do a large amount of damage, but I aimed at my feet and took Gaius down in a single hit (he deserves that though). I love strong skills, but this is just broken.

                                              • Anonymous

I understand this will probably get nerfed, but if it does they're going to have to buff the damage of the actual perfume bottles to balance it out.

                                                • Anonymous

Better have your fun with this now before this gets a huuuuuuge nerf in probably the first patch of the DLC. I am deleting stuff with the Lightning Bottle, nothing is a problem for me, I am a god, and I smell fantastic.

                                                  • Anonymous

I can see this getting nerfed which is a shame because it’s the only reason that these weapons are top tier. Like the ash of war genuinely makes them go from probably below average to one of the best in the game. A quick nuke for 14fp lol

                                                    • Anonymous

I expected these weapons to be bad or niche at best, I cheesed hog rider with this by aiming down and pressing LT/L2. Hexer build

                                                      • Anonymous

This ash is wild. Lightning perfume with 17 dex, 45 faith, lightning shrouding cracked tear, shard of alex, and perfumer talisman- I can hit the hippo in shadow keep for over 17k if its in the water and moving just right. I'm turning off auto update in case this gets nerfed.

                                                        • Anonymous

notably if you get hit out of start up the sparks still spawn just fire at a slight delay

ALOT of cheese boss kills with camera unlock>aim down. fire bottle feels like highest dmg at max investment (80 dex vs lightning split scaling falls of around 50 dex/faith)
haven't checked numbers on ice bottle with this, but with how the frenzy bottle puts dmg out and applies really quickly, i'd imagine theres a good chance ice bottle is on par with fire and lightning.

alexander shard/perfume talisman/scorpion of your choice, sometimes I hit 10k off one AoW use.

ALSO this combo melts the furnaces if you're tired of jump attacking the legs for 10 min, its like a 45 second kill

                                                          • Anonymous

Hit any boss in the face with more than half the sparks and it'll lose like 35% of its life, I expect this to get nerfed.

                                                            • Anonymous

The location is in the camp to the southeast of Shadow Keep. There are three perfumers, and the scarab is flying in the air in the direction of the main camp.
