Ash of War: Shriek of Sorrow is an Ash of War and Upgrade Material in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Ash of War: Shriek of Sorrow provides Occult affinity and the Shriek of Sorrow Skill. Ashes of War can be equipped on Weapons and Shields to modify the Skill or an equipment, or to apply affinities that modify scaling values.
This Ash of War grants an armament the Occult affinity and the following skill:
"Shriek of Sorrow: Skill utilized by the downtrodden. Scream, causing nearby enemies to flinch, while also recalling deep-seated resentment, boosting attack power based on the amount of HP remaining. The lower the HP, the greater the effect."
Usable on all melee armaments.

Elden Ring Ash of War: Shriek of Sorrow Notes & Tips
- +5 Strength
<30% HP = 1.25x damage (1.2x PvP)
<55% HP = 1.20x damage (1.15x PvP)
<85% HP = 1.15x damage (1.10 PvP)
≥85% HP = 1.10x damage (1.075 PvP) - Bring yourself down to low HP with a weapon that has Seppuku or Bloody Slash and then use Shriek of Sorrow before healing to prepare for a fight.
- Use Shriek of Sorrow before healing to prepare for a fight with a massive initial boost.
- There are many few ways to intentionally lower your health:
- Find some mobs and let them hit you. This doesn't require any special equipment or FP, but does depend on there being mobs nearby that aren't too threatening.
- Bloody Slash: This Ash of War is obtainable early from Fort Haight and deals you 50 + (5% of max HP) damage each time it's used.
- Night Maiden's Mist: This spell can be obtained relatively early from Gowry and damages the player as long as they stand in the mist. It requires 14 Intelligence to use, but it costs less FP than Bloody Slash.

Full Royal Remains Set, Twin-Bird Kite Shield (buffed by Scholar's Shield or Barricade Shield), the Red and Blue Branchfeather talismans, Dragoncrest Greatshield and Curved Sword talismans, Opaline Hardtear and Deflecting Hardtear physick mix, mainhand weapon with this (I use the Great Omenkiller's Cleaver, Occult infused), Ironjar Aromatic, Golden Vow spell, Pickled Turtle Neck.
You're reducing so much incoming damage that you should be able to keep this going while you're at 20% health for a long time, even against bosses. Just time your blocks and counter hits, and you'll be able to smack down enemies really easily. Once you've got all the requisite base stats to wield your weapon of choice and get 80 arcane for occult scaling (which is why I recommend a weapon with base bleed), as well as enough for mind and endurance, put the rest into vigor and go for 99 in that stat. Combined with Radahn's Great Rune, you can max out at 2415hp, which at 20% health is 483hp. It doesn't sound like a lot, but with all the stacked damage resistance on top, and your physick, it will allow you to survive quite a while.

Elden ring need shriek of happiness (Quality and all weapons) with effect "raises stamina recovery"

this only cares about your health when you use it so if you pop it at full hp then lose health you don't get the lowered heath damage, so kinda trash

Most people recite this as "GRIFFFIIITH!" or "MIQUEEELLAA!" or even "CURSE YOU, BAYLEEE!"
Me when I found out that I locked myself out of Dragon Priestess quest simply because I killed Bayle earlier than I found the Altar: "MIYAZAAAKI!"

Can proc insignia buffs lol i had both rotten and millicent's and every shriek would make the buff noise and make the red thing around me brighter (The red insignia buff lines around me were not shriek of sorrows, since yelling at the albinaric I was testing on would make it brighter than SoS by itself.) Also it make my damage skyrocket.

unless youre going for one shots, cragblade is just better imo. more stance damage is insanely important in this game. but if youre going for light attacks or using a weapon with little to no stance damge, then this could be better.

awesome, can buff smithscript weapons without changing the heavy attack

Use it with one of the creepier looking weapons. Hide the weapon with Unseen Blade. Find host. Use Shriek of Sorrow to forcefully deactivate the invisibility and add +20 virtual drip to your Swag stat.

This move comes out fairly fast, about as fast as drinking a tear, so it can be used as a mid-battle buff any time you're below 30% during the fight to give you 27.5% AR for 40 seconds. It snapshots your health when you use it, so you can shriek, sip, and be back in the game at full HP with a hefty weapon buff.
Occult weapons also can't use most other weapon buffs, so it's a decent offense-focused alternative to cragblade or braggart's.

You use it for the damage buff. I use it to scream in terror right before the killing blow lands. We are not the same.

"Roar Medallion has no Effect When using this Ash." - wait, so technically this is saying that while the effect of this Ash of War is active, the Roar Medallion's effect will be nullified. Is this true, or does the author mean to say that the Roar Medallion does not affect this Ash of War?

A solid option for Bloodfiend's Arm and Star Fist which rely mostly on charged R2.

This seems bugged on the great katana. Only boosts my base attack stat by ~5, even with less than 30% hp
