Elden Ring Ash of War: Carian Greatsword Notes & Tips
- Outperforms Carian Grandeur in terms of damage if Carian Grandeur is only charged once, but charges more slowly, making it harder to use.
- Damage of Carian Greatsword scales with Int, upgrade level, and infusion affinity, not with weapon's AR or Int scaling value.

I saw this in the gameplay trailer and lost my ****
I don't care if there are better options
This, Loretta's Slash, and other magic AoWs are so ****ing cool

It would benefit greatly from some sort of hyperarmor. Any flying wind in your direction will stagger you out of this. And considering how long it charges up, it's quite hard to use this thing consistently. Although it does pretty big damage for what it is.

Used this on my first playthrough, was literally a downgrade. I hope its better after the cast time buff

I really wish this attack was fast & horizontal like the spell. Especially considering we already have the charged vertical attack of Carian Grandeur. There’s very little reason to use this version once you get the more powerful one.

I don’t see the value in doing the Standard version of this…it looks like without the Magic it’s just a regular sword?

Tested on a Lordsworn's Straight Sword +8 with 22 int - At fully charged, Carian Grandeur does 43 damage per FP - Carian Greatsword does 61 damage per FP - I don't know why you'd ever use Grandeur then.

If Rogier dies before you've bought this spell from him (Ranni's quest), is there any way to obtain this spell other than him?

Does "collosal weapons excepted" mean it can use them or cannot use them?

What's the difference between this and Carian Grandeur? Is it that Grandeur can be charged one more level?

pretty good works with charge attack talisman to get more damage

Takes a long time to charge and is easily canceled when you get staggered. You need a lot of poise if you want to consider making use of this ability.
Tested on a Nagakiba+25 @ 52 Int/Magic infusion w/ Godfrey Icon & Shard of Alexander.
Fully charged, hit for 2.7k on the thorn sorceror @ Whiteridge Road site of grace. Fully charged w/ Terra Magica, hit for 3.5k+. Adding magic boost physick, hit for 4k+.
This ash hit way harder than I expected on this spellblade build. The obvious drawback is the considerable wind-up on the charge, prob would not recommend for PvP (duels at least; could def get some hilarious kills from blind spots in team PvP/invasions).
For PvE, this is a potential huge damage dealer for bosses, and one-shotting tougher enemies like trash.
Best way to land a fully charged hit is to start the wind-up just as they’re about to be in range, so they walk or charge into it.
