Ash of War: Lightning Slash is an Ash of War and Upgrade Material in Elden Ring. Ash of War: Lightning Slash provides Lightning affinity and the Lightning Slash Skill. Ashes of War can be equipped on Weapons and Shields to modify the Skill or an equipment, or to apply affinities that modify scaling values.
This Ash of War grants an armament the Lightning affinity and the following skill:
"Lightning Slash: Call down a bolt of lightning into armament, then swing it down to create an explosive shock. The armament retains the lightning enchantment for a while."
Usable on swords, axes, and hammers.

Too bad this is a bit restricted in terms of weapon categories, while Flaming strike and Sacred Blade can be used on pretty much any weapon.
I want to use Lightning Slash on a great spear

Flaming strike and sacred blade seems better than this one on paper, but flaming strike doesn't work on colossal weapons and sacred blade's holy boost is situational. This lightning slash requires positioning and timing to compensate for lack of hyperarmor and range, but the resulting damage never disappoints.
- Anonymous
a tiny bit of hyperarmor on that down swing would make this ash perfect

pretty goated on colossal weapons like the golem halberd for pvp. the large weapon hitbox means you can likely get the rollcatch on people after the initial hit, and the little bit of extra damage from the lightning coating can make the difference between 4 shotting someone and 3 shotting them

Flaming strike and sacred blade are both better than this for their own reason. One lingers DMG and is quick, one fire at range. This needs poise to fill the trinity out .. as it is the 85 DMG barely compensates for the luck/brain dead target you need to land the actual ash

For PvE, if you're using this AoW safely, deals substantial burst damage for being a weapon buff ability, which also is a very good buff at that. Throw this on anything with very high AR as the multipliers it gets are tremendous.

Desperately needs some kind of hyper armor so that you won't be easily staggered out of the swing, especially with the new changes to poise making anything bigger than a Halberd unpoisable. Any one-handed attack from a Claymore will interrupt you, even if you are wearing Full Bullgoat's + Bullgoat's Talisman, meaning you can't even trade with this because of how slow it is. Hell, even a Two-Handed Heavy Running Attack from a Longsword is unpoisable.
Good luck landing this with the new poise damage buffs. Anything you can trade with can hit you and roll away before you land the hit, and anything that is too slow to run away will poise break you anyways. Lightning slash needs hyper armor to be relevant. Flame Slash has its lingering hitbox, Lightning slash needs this.

It annoys me so much that the lightning affinity is dex. They should have done something like far where there's lightning weapons and lightning art weapons so that faith users have some lightning weapon options.
- Anonymous
For anyone using this in PvP, if you want to benefit from the bonus lightning damage at all then you need to use it with the lightning affinity otherwise the tiny fraction of damage gets completely negated against flat enemy defenses.

I've played over 600 hours and just stumbled across this today, to think there was an ash of war i'd never seen before

Excellent AoW, absolutely melts the entire game on a Claymore or Zweihander

So, I put this on a colossal sword, and decided to make it heavy so it still scales with strength. Am I stupid?
- Anonymous
Excellent AOW , use it to stomp the ground in front of you with some sparks that stay on your weapon for a bit to look stupid. The only problem is someone can interrupt you and prevent you from looking stupid, only needs more speed , range , usability and hyper armour. Throw in some damage and yeah it’s a 10/10 AOW.

One shot someone today, 1414 dmg through gelmir knights armor.

would be significantly better with some added poise and/or the missing follow up thst costs 15 fp being added back.
- Anonymous
on a pure dex build this buff on a lightning infused weapon outperforms keen significantly
- Anonymous
put this on the Executioner’s Greataxe and you’ve got the Dragonslayer’s Greataxe

They need to add stagger to the stomp it has like no stagger at all and people can still just interrupt this attack way to easily.

If you observe the way the Leyndell Knights that use this, they do the same slash to the ground but then it generates a "honed bolt" like incantation that tracks the player. Where as the ash of war just strikes a bolt at the end of the sword that usually has no effect. A nice buff would be to give it tracking but shorter range than the incantation or other ash of war like "thunderbolt". Or another idea would be to spawn a couple random lightning strikes within a mid sized AOE like "Death lightning" but without the effect build up.

"Yeah lets not give any hyper armour to a skill that has zero range and slow casting time" Fromsoft.

I like how fire version gets a cool fire spray into a heavy which staggers and combos sometimes for a self buff Ash of War. But here we just shoot lightning bolt at our own toes with no hyper armour.

Lightning version of Flaming Strike but rolled into one press & forgot to change the text. Or it's just broken, there's no way to do the second activation on a light or heavy followup and repeat use just spams it at 10fp

Does leveling Dex shorten the casting time on this at all? Or does that only apply to sorc/incants and not ashes?

Wondering what the posture damage on this is? Worth choosing over Flame of the Redmanes?

Hard to hit in PvP but hits like a TRUCK once you do. Put it on a weapon with decent reach and if you can outspace/predict people you can do wonderful things with this.
- Anonymous
What does the lightning damage we get from the buff scales with? If I put this on my colossal sword and infused it with heavy, does the added lightning damage change or lower with faith/dex build?

checked today with all bosses dead, spawned happily in the middle of the camp and gave me the AoW

Has anyone figured out what the Second Fp cost is for? Shows 10 fp and then 15 in brackets. I have test it on several weapons and there is no second activation that costs 15, and trying to do a quick or charge attack during doesn't seem to do anything. Seems they forgot to add the secondary function. I assume it is supposed to function like flaming strike
- Anonymous
Confirmed it does not spawn after beating Maliketh despite being outside the capital OUTER walls

this + executioner greataxe = discount dragonslayer greataxe
Slash skill on a hammer seems weird, but I'll take it. Been looking for a way to deal with the things slash is weak against. Shock and Striking both work. Now I can have them both on one weapon.

for everyone commenting twinblades, i think the game categorises twinblades as swords. seems strange, but would explain why a lot of AoWs that don't specifically mention twinblades can still be used on them.
- Anonymous
Why it has two fp costs (10 and 15) if it only performs one attack and the second cost doesn't seem to have any effect?
- Anonymous
Looks like the buff lasts roughly 30 seconds from when you initiate the move. So about 25-27 seconds of usable time after animation finishes
- Anonymous
Can also be used on twinblades, making them pretty strong actually.
- Anonymous
Gives a flat 85 lightning buff to your weapon. The slash part of the skill scales with your weapon's AR (possibly with a further weapon level and dex scaling addition), the lightning bolt scales only with dex and weapon level.
- Anonymous
Anyone know how to do the follow up attack or whatever it is that costs 15 fp?
- Anonymous
POV you want a lightning spear then realise you can't use the slash on it

For those using the map link it's just a little bit off, it's not at the rock crevice, it's in the camp right next to it to the NE right by the fire, use the hermit merchants shack, and come out the castle gate from the backside, mine wouldn't spawn when I approached from the front being attacked.
