You use lions claw because it has infinite hyperarmor on frame 1, good range, great damage, and amazing poise break.
I use it because it makes my character do a cool flip.
We are not the same.

One of unique things about this AoW is that it's hyperarmor kicks in instantly, literally at frame 1. So you can pop this amidst getting smashed, and it will work, similar to Endure. Not to mention that hyperarmor itself is monstrous and i haven't seen a single case where someone got knocked out of it at all.

Does more damage and poise damage that a fully charged R2. Also kinda chains into one another in PVE against enemies that get pancaked (anything the size of an Omen or smaller)
Reaching aroung 2500 damage on NG++ against the Troll outside of Godrick with 99 STR two handing heavy Greatsword with Shard of Alex as only boost. Giant Hunt does around 2200 damage. Both stagger the Troll on two hits. 3 shoting the Omens at the Capital sewers with the same setup. Charged R2 without any buff or talisman deals around 1600. R2 jump attack with RKR deals around 2200 damage with the same setup against the Troll
Pretty much this Ash deals huge physical damage, huge poise damage, comes relatively quick, with hyperarmor, fairly costed at 20 FP, and leaves room for 3 talismans as you only benefit from Alex Shard for damage unlike other ashes that might deal more damage but require other slots. Im currently using Dragoncrest,HP medalion and Spirit Horn to be as tanky as possible and still pack a serious punch

When I got this ash of war and put it on my Greatsword (colossal) the game became from hard to super easy...

For me this doesn't poise break any bosses, even when I use it twice or 3 times in rapid succession. Does anybody know my issue? Are there specific talismans or gear i need?

Don't mess with us lion claw users
We WILL spam when out of fp

If I have this on my left handed Greatsword and I'm dual wielding colassol swords, will this Ash make both hit or just the weapon with the Ash?
- Anonymous
Deals 30 to 40 poise damage when put on light > heavy weapons.
pretty balanced and fun AOW

Poise breaks every boss except Radagon, who of course, is half naked!
- Anonymous
I think this actually gives infinite poise during the animation, have tested everything from the giant crows to godfrey big eruption and nothing knocks you out of it, except for grabs and of course dying.

Too expensive FP cost.
Maybe just for me but square off and unsheathe can do a better job with more versatility.

Is it possible to be staggered out of the artorias flip? bc I’ve used it against countless of bosses and none have staggered me out of it

HALBERD USERS HATE HIM! learn to win a poise trade with this one easy trick!

Man, this **** wrecks.on a great stars with alex shard i can one shot alot of invaders. Totally catches aggressive people off guard. Even if they see it coming the raw power of it will just make them assume room temp.and if you manage to proc bleed or frost with it forget about it. Testing with my friends at 99 vigor, all buffs and talismans applied, hits for 1900 on a a single hit. And thats at lvl 300+ with 40% resistance from beast champ armor amd dragoncrest. This thing erases people with the right setup. If youre a str build, hell any build, this is a staple AoW

every time I've struggled with a boss I just spammed this with my greatsword

You can hyperarmor through moonveil with this. It’s also really fun to make rot breath spammers part of the landscape.

Rotten greataxe, this ash of war and frost damage are great together. Takes some time to get used to it, but atleast Mohg goes down fairly quickly
- Anonymous
Does about as much damage as a fully charged heavy attack so it absolutely shreds on collosal weapons or other high ar weapons
- Anonymous
I can’t apply frost anymore on the rotten great axe anyone else having this issue

Love this Ash. Literally carried me through the Godskin Duo fight. 100/10

This Ash of War will not benefit from Claw Talisman, but will benefit from Alexander's talismans (10-15% versions)
- Anonymous
This is a literal win button on colossal swords like Greatsword. It pairs perfectly with the unbreakable hyperarmor, staggers more than most of your attacks, does a decent chunk no matter what enemy you attack and it's almost as fast as the other Ashes like Impaling Thrust or Unsheathe. One of the best strength ashes in the game and you can slap it on any weapon and it would still be effective.

The stance Motion value of of this is stupid high, it is 600, basically it multiply your normal light attack stance damage by 6, so a giant-crusher that does 16.8 will end up doing 100 stance damage, this will pretty much break the stance of any ennemies in the game in one hit, and bosses/giant type ennemies in two, add in the amazing damage, hyperarmor, and little recovery frames, and you have one of the best pve ashe of war in the game, its also really effective in pvp since it pretty much can't be punished easily thanks to patch 1.04 buff.

Halfway through the game on my Str/melee character I realized I had stopped actually trying to learn patterns and started just kind of lazily trading hyper armor Lion flips with my CGS until I won every fight.
Great PvE skill, turned me into a filthy casual, 10/10 would flip again.

Hot take: I wish the range was SHORTER so I don’t flip past them when trading with huge hyper armour.
- Anonymous
Insane hyperarmor. 1 shots in pvp. Very quick, 9/10 would recommend if you are using any large weapon.
- Anonymous
You'd think pancaking things with this skill will get old -- it thankfully does not.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know what this skill actually does to your damage? like is the damage here similar to a fully charged heavy attack or is it more then that? is there a specific calculation for how it increases your damage? Also does this ability scale in damage directly with your AR like eochaids or is it more like normal ashes and only based the stuff listed in the wiki?
- Anonymous
Quick question
I've used it on my current moon axe, such a quality of life
What will be your recommended weapon to use it if want to have a decent reach?
What is your go to when rocking this for ur fun time?
Can this be used on Great/Colossal weapons? Can I use this on a Great Club?

This thing is a PVP trading nightmare. If somebody does literally anything that relies on breaking your poise and staggering you, do this first and it is a hard punish
It should be noted that this weapon Art retains it's some of it's poise damage and HA even when used with no FP, all it seems to lose is the high motion value on the attack.
- Anonymous
This AoW is perfect at what it does now (a close range punish). Amen. The ONE suggestion I'd make is to give it those jumping i-frames when you flip so you can use this, when timed correctly, to punish thrusting weapon running attacks or some such. Partly because it'd make sense, and partly because that'd be some of the damn coolest outplay potential.
- Anonymous
Fun fact: this still works when out of FP. It deals reduced damage, but said damage is still roughly equal to a heavy attack. It also benefits from Alexander’s shards even when out of FP. I was testing with the Golem’s Halberd and it’s genuinely phenomenal, I don’t even invest in mind anymore
- Anonymous
Is the poise damage the same regardless of the weapon? I wanna know if I can break poise of bosses faster with a colossal weapon or if a katanna gives the same effect (when using the skill ofc)
- Anonymous
I like this on Prelate's Infernal Crozier. I was using it in 1.03 and 1.04 just buffed the speed
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Does it have the same posture damage with different weapon type? Like, Claymore and Greatsword will perform the same amount of guard break with the AoW?
- Anonymous
This or Stamp (Upward Swing) for a PvE Zweihander character? I feel like I'm getting the same utility out of either (hyper armor and then a big chunk of staggering damage).

Post update april 19 :
This ash of war is even more amazing, idk if it was intended or not but its so so damn fast now , i used it couple of times to insta kill rivers spam from a distance since now the attack speed of it and recovery is so fast
- Anonymous
Before the buff it was good, now its truly terrifying... Artorias and Guts would be proud...
- Anonymous
ridiculously fast as of patch 1.04, can totally spam it like ds1 artorias

Usable on "Swords" includes the Twinblade by the way. Fun way to give that weapon a single strong attack to break poise with.

havent seen anyone mention this but if you have briar armor equiped you do damage and stagger small enemies with the initial jump

does using this with 1 FP left deal the same damage as having 20 FP left?
- Anonymous
Amazing when somebody’s trying to heal and thinks they’ve distanced enough, only for you to pull this **** and one shot them
- Anonymous
Killed an imp 10 times with, and without, the claw talisman to test if it counts as a jump attack. It does not seem to give any more damage as it was the same amount of damage all 20 hits.

- Anonymous
Does this benefit from the Claw Talisman that gives jump attacks increased damage?
- Anonymous
I used this against one of the NPC invaders (late into Ranni's quest line). Dude was outclassing me in damage and health by a ton - it was basically a boss fight. However, this art pancaked him every single time, it was hilarious. Find out where an opening big enough for this is, pop it, boom, combo broken. It's not as powerful as other arts (like Hoarfrost Stomp) but the stopping power is legit.
- Anonymous
The ash of war is my favourite in the game high range flip
I’ve got it on the giant crusher so both L2 and R2 are just flips
- Anonymous
This thing feels very balance.
Decent damage/poise damage, alright tracking, has huge hyper armor (I don't think you can be knocked out of animation), can stun most enemies. The downside is the long wind up animation so prepare to trade damage.
There're more broken things out there? Yes. But if you want a no bullshit melee build, totally would recommend this.
- Anonymous
Did they remove the initial flip hitbox that was present in DS3?

Identical to Artorias's signature slam attack, except that it's slow as hell and you only move forward about a foot...so..not really that great.
- Anonymous
You can also get this Ash of War early from Claymore that can be looted in castle Morne
- Anonymous
You can apply this to the greatsword for that Guts cosplay

You can find this at Fort Gael it is not too far from the Impassable Bridge and Caleid, dropped by the lion with a bladed arm. It's strong, but spirit summons can be used to face off with it.
This is just one of Artorias' attacks.
