I love using this to troll in PVP with Fingerprint Greatshield, slapping some fools with it is always fun

So what's the difference between this and 'bash' ? The wording of the descriptions for both are slightly different but say the exact same thing.

Put this on the spiked palisade shield and get bleed for days

Slap this bad boy on the Fingerprint Shield+10. I'll just leave it at that! It's sort of tough to pull off in pvp but pve is goated
- Anonymous
Just found out it knocks over Crystallarians. This is hilariously good on mid sized enemies.

I don't know why this and shield bash cost FP. It's not a big deal but you'd think just bashing the enemy with the weapon wouldn't require blue juice if parrying/kicking doesn't require any.
- Anonymous
very easy to side step this. Malenia does it all the time lol...
Although it's fairly easy to avoid in PvP (just roll to the side and don't challenge it, they'll go charging past you and be left wide open), NPCs have no idea how to counter this thing and usually just eat the full charge, get knocked over, and slowly stand up to eat another charge. Trivializes the great jar challenge and all the volcano manor quests if you put this on the spiked palisade or fingerprint shield.

What happens when you have no fp and use it? It still lets me use it but I don’t see any noticeable difference

I’ve accidentally run off cliffs using this weapon art countless times. Every time it happens in pvp, I like to think the guy I invaded is laughing just as hard as I am

This is bugged, I was hit in pvp by this while standing about 3meters from the player using it, it sucked me in like gravitas then I took all 4 hits was madness'd stunned and killed. Its wonky af, the pvp in general is wonks tho, also played a match yesterday where I land every hit and my opponent rolls after the hit has connected and I've seen a hitmaker. The I take damage and stagger while he is about to swing. This whole game needs a rework

If you're having trouble getting this- stand close to where the scarab disappears, then quit out and reload. It will be there again.
It seems like you can sneak up on this bug by starting at the Erdtree Gazing Hill grace and using Torrent to hop up the cliff before creeping around the broken tower (be wary of the beast men). Either that or that was just a one-time fluke. Can someone confirm?

if you're having trouble with the stupid bug, use a greatbow from a distance, preferably one that can one-shot it.

Shield crash + Alexander shard + rotten winged sword insignia nothing nothing is surviving if you connect the Final hit alone does 1000 damage

I guess they stealth nerfed this, it now drops guard during activation for a brief window.

This thing slaps after 1.04, comes out pretty fast now and doesn't eat all of your stamina anymore. In PvP the only way you'll lose the trade is if they hit you with a fast, high poise damage attack before your block frames activate, namely colossal sword crouching/rolling R1s and running halberd R1s. In PvE it's usually worth trading since you deal a lot of damage and most enemies won't be able to attack you fast enough after breaking your guard. Run this on a Heavy/Fire Fingerprint shield with a pure STR build or any shield that can bleed on ARC builds and you will deal insane damage. Cold on STR/INT builds could be fun too but haven't tried myself to say if it's any good or not. If you want to go shield only (surprisingly viable in PvE and PvP btw), Jellyfish shield in the right hand with Contagious Fury active will boost the damage even more.

Based on very rough testing and calculations on enemies and another player, I believe this skill does .65x AR for calculations in the first 4 hits, and 1.2x AR for the last hit.
626 AR heavy fingerprint stone shield.
Does around 3.5X AR as damage on an enemy with no defenses.
Does around 1.85X AR on 150 defense and 35% reduction (typical 150 PVP)

Insane. Put this with “Cold” affinity on any of the Great Shields give 150+ Frost build up per hit. One charge is enough to proc.
Follow up with a hit from any weapon with Fire damage resets the Frost proc.
If your shield and Fire weapon also do bleed damage, then you’re stacking Bleed procs too (think Mohg spear).
Shield crash, poke, repeat. The bloody snowcone.

Every buff you apply to your right handed weapon, will be applied to your shield, kinda funny if you use Seppuku or Bloodflame

Good lord, this weapon art has no business being so good. The Fingerprint shield isn't the only thing that can use this-- if you're feeling less sadistic, try infusing it on greatshields with Cold, Bleed, or Poison. Great for building status, and its actual damage output isn't bad either.

With a +10 Fingerprint Shield, 60 Faith, 48 Str, and Flame Affinity (D-FTH/D-STR scaling), this deals 1.5-2k damage if every hit (5 total) connects, and you're protected from frontal attacks during the charge. Each hit staggers & applies status buildup, the final hit deals a ton of poise and will floor many bosses outright (get rekt Malenia). With Arcane bleed build & Occult Affinity I had 172 bleed buildup & 600+ unbuffed AR on the same shield, with bleed proc total ~3k with all 5 hits, just bonkers. All of this for just 12 FP makes it absurdly good.
However it is quite risky. You are totally vulnerable during the ~1 second windup which deactivates your block & has no poise (getting combo'd here often means death). Once charging you turn like a boat & releasing early still takes a second to deliver the final hit, so miss a charge in PvP & you're getting backstabbed. Stamina consumption scales with shield weight (check other comment for numbers) so heavy shields leave you drained, at 132 stamina with same shield a full charge takes 70-75% of my stamina.
Altogether my favorite shield skill along with Parry (RIP Barricade Shield). This has seen me through entire boss fights (yes, including Malenia) due to the damage, stagger, frontal block, and cheap cost. Deadly in PvP when landed, and since it's relatively rare people often aren't expecting it & run straight into it, especially aggressive melee users.
TLDR: You can build an offensive shield build around this skill alone.
How does this compare to shield bash? I use the Spiked Palisade a lot and I wonder if it makes much difference to the offensive output

Using this on Fingerprint Shield is pretty strong in PvP or even against human NPCs, it almost guarantees a madness proc and stun from that lets you set up an second shield charge

The stamina consumption on this skill changes from shield to shield. Fingerprint Stone Shield consumes ~70, Crossed-Tree Towershield and Distinguished Greatshield consume ~60, while the Briar Greatshield and Perfumer's Shield both consume ~50.
I did some testing and it seems that the stamina cost is tied to weight in classes of 10; fingerprint weighs over 20 so it consumes 70 stamina, crossed-tree and the distinguished greatshield weigh between 10 and 20 so they consume 60, and the perfumer and briar shields both weigh under 10 so they consume 50. Guard Boost seems to have no impact on this.

I managed to take it out from a distance with a Fire Pot, with 35STR and 9DEX.

Palisade Shield become so powerful with this, that it has become one of my main weapons.

This one sucks to get. It's a long way to run to it, and it seems to phase out when you get too close. I quit back to the main menu then reloaded it a few times to make it reappear before I could finally snipe it

You can control how long you charge for by holding down L2. Charging for longer doesn't consume any additional FP; it costs 12 no matter what. As mentioned earlier this skill is incredible with infusions, one full charge with 107 frost buildup usually being enough to proc frostbite.

shield crash vs shield bash is an interesting choice most will make. one has a much longer active hitbox but requires time to start. the other in near instant but only hits once. both have their uses situationally.
- Anonymous
This Ash of War is crazy powerful if you give your shield an elemental scaling and if you manage to connect all hits, it's also good at inflicting status ailments because of how many hits it does, just be careful unlike the regular shield bash, shield crash has a small vulnerability window when starting the animation that leaves you open to damage but once the actual attack starts you keep your guard up.
As much as I adore using this on great shields, I'll always enjoy occasionally putting it on a small shield and just doing the derpiest charge imaginable.
