You could masterfully dodge all of your enemy's attacks, or...
You could use the power of the gods to just say "No."
Take your pick, buddy

Imagine the sheer despair of the poor souls who finds out they can't stance break or bypass fingerprint shield thanks to this ash of war.

Super fun against the Godskin Noble, invalidates his roly-poly

Actually busted nobody expects in pvp dodge the un-dodgeble in pve insane better then BHS

One of the most useful defensive ashes of war in the game. Can be used consistently to avoid annoying attacks that are otherwise hard to dodge. For example the last attack in radagon’s 3 slam combo, his jumping slam attack, malenia’s waterfowl attack, Radahn’s meteor slam attack, and roar attacks that some dragons do.

Anon 11th Nov 21:15 says this nullifies grab attacks. It appears to be correct. I was sceptical, the putrid corpses infesting that beach at weeping peninsula were consistently able to pull me out of 'thundercloud form' after I had transformed and yesterday one did the grab and bite while I was in the the middle of 'flame dance' and it took zero damage from passing through it. That stops banished knights dead in their tracks and if the last couple of spins land hits knock them up as well. But I've just tried it out myself and it really does prevent the putrid corpses from doing the grab and bite.
This has implications for the one shot grab attack that c**t Astel does. The timing is a lot more generous than any of the parry skills and it shouldn't take too long to get down for anyone having to fight that thing for access to the moonlight Alter in Ranni's quest.

Great for builds that use shields, particularly for avoiding tough to block moves or grab attacks you otherwise couldnt block

needs like 0.1 seconds of Iframes after the animation ends just so you can roll out of it unscathed

So uhh, since this ash of war uses no stamina, in PvP you can put it on a greatshield and use it as you get low stamina from poking and blocking and you can completely avoid getting guard broken as long as you stack a lot of stamina regen. You can also reaction i-frame RKR jump attacks and roll afterwards and you will have close to 90 i-frames (60 FPS). You don't need to roll after using it either so it's not so predictable. Thankfully it has 2-3 frames at the start where there is no i-frames and you stand your ground so it's not as easy to use as BHS.

>Radahn comes down from the sky like a burning meteor
>Uses Vow of the Indomitable
This is fine.

This will be the next BHS in 5 months when people look around for the next op exploit.

this thing is basically your trump card against the opponent's trump card, and yes it works against grabs (you wont get grabbed). it will in fact cancel status effect buildup as well. so far the only move that didn't get stopped is mohg's nihil. anything that pisses you off or one shots you, like malenia's waterfowl, maliketh's golden blade attacks, godskin noble's roll, radagon's three big slams, elden beast's anything, just cast this up to three times and, with good timing, negate all those moves. it's not meant to be used for everything in place of the roll, it's for things that can't be consistently rolled. if you overuse it you will find yourself out of fp quick.

Press down and shield at the same time to perform a "spot dodge"

This wiki got their east and west mixed up. This swamp is in the southwest area of Liurnia.

This Ash of War is wonderful on a support build with the Carian Filigree Talisman and a high Mind Stat. My squishy healer can just stand and tank through boss attacks and sweeping dragon breath effortlessly. Throws invaders off as well when you just run up and let them hit you with their strongest 1-hit kill attack and just giggle when you walk through it unscathed. Great and fun Ash of War, though situational for sure.

I think a lot of people are confused about the wording "invincible" on the page. It does not make you actually invincible, it gives the same kind of invincibility as rolling, and so can only dodge things a roll can dodge. Raptor of the Mists is closer to actual invincibility

This desperately needs more i-frames simply due to not being able to move during and a lengthy time after casting it. Compared to BHS, which gives you virtually 80-90% invulnerability while moving faster than sprinting speed, this should provide more protection for the cost of movement.

This does not show up in my inventory, but I have it and can attach it to a shield and use it. Very strange.
- Anonymous
Thought I was being smart by trying to use this to counter mohgs nihils. Didn't work.
- Anonymous
basically bloodhound quickstep without the movement. good for catching people off guard or for if you need to sit still instead of fly around
- Anonymous
For anyone wondering, you can use this to dodge Waterfowl from Malenia

It's not even there anymore I've watched videos of people going to the exact place and it's not there for me. Maybe it disappeared because of progression or maybe they changed location in recent update?? if someone finds that it's a bug or patch pls give info

This skill allowed me to kill Malenia in my first playthrough.

had a rickety shield with this aow on it in my second lefthand slot for melenias waterfowl dance, very helpful

Better alternative to blocking malenia's flurry of bullshit move cause with this she doesn't get healed from attacking you
- Anonymous
Bloodhound Step does nearly the same, but requires a weapon instead of a shield, yet the FP cost is one quarter. This is a nice skill, but it should cost way less FP.
- Anonymous
There are a couple good uses for this. Placidusax's dive bombs, Ancient Dragon sword swipes, the wide sweeping dragon breaths...you could probably even use it to dodge Godfrey's stomps if you're bad at timing your jumps/dodges. In the wake of Barricade Shield's tweak, this is a pretty good option for greatshields that might not have enough guard boost to stonewall everything.
- Anonymous
This badly needs to be an incantation as well. Not that it shouldn't be an AoW, but it'd be so nice to have a parry or no-skill shield and be able to cast a Divine Shield depending on the situation. Faith could use a reactive defensive like this.
- Anonymous
For some reason this ash of war is not here in my playthrough
- Anonymous
It seems this AoW was either nerfed or is not effective in Gelmir Hero's Grave. I've been using it to ignore the "Indiana Jones" traps, but the first chariot kills me despite being "invulnerable."
- Anonymous
i hate how some of these descriptions dont say what the items/abilities do. They just say what they are and that they do something but they dont say what that something is.
- Anonymous
NEGATES THE `NIHIL` DAMN IT. Wish I had known for my no hit run.
- Anonymous
Absolutely incredible AoW. Situational, but does the job when you need it - especially against Malenia.
- Anonymous
Beat the final boss with this skill while one handing a katana.
I say its good only for big AOE attacks.
- Anonymous
If only there are some single shot huge damage attacks in the game. pop this in the right moment, comletely negates the single shot attack, then move on railing on the boss like playing ffxiv. The closest one is Malenia's Scarlet Aeonia but there are just too much residual dots after the blosom
This does NOT make you immune to the exploding wondrous physick tears. You still take the explosion damage through this "invincibility."
- Anonymous
So could you use this and then cast an incantation/spell? Does this have PvP potential basically
- Anonymous
Spot on interactive map is a bit off. I found it closer to: -158.3, 59.9. ie a fair bit south. its on a small island in the middle of that pathway through the poison swamp channel
- Anonymous
Would have been cool if you could put this on a Sacred Seal
- Anonymous
Has a niche use for completely avoiding each of Malenia's flurry of attacks, since they go so fast that they all fit within the invulnerability window.

It does NOT protect you from the chariots in the Gilmar Hero and Fringe Folk Hero Graves. I have tested it on both to be sure- save yourself the trouble
- Anonymous
This is SUPER useful on my sorcerer. There are attacks that are just too punishing to roll through, and I'm made of glass so can't really afford to take a hit. (For example: draconic tree sentinel's lightning strike)
In this case, the shield and stats you have don't matter as much because you're invincible no matter what, so I went with a light fashionable one in my offhand for when it's needed.
- Anonymous
The FP cost as of the current patch is 20 per use for anyone curious. A little expensive, but then again it does make you totally invulnerable for ~600ms or so.
- Anonymous
It's niche, but I like using this on my great shield for when enemies decide to throw blue sparkly crap or start cosplaying Gwyn since I can't completely block none-physical. Makes up slightly for the fat roll if you're willing to give up using your weapon's AoW without two-handing. Wouldn't use on anything less than a great shield though since barricade is a thing.
You can roll after casting it and you will extend the i-frames you get from the skill and combine it with the roll's. If you use the skill too late you may end up using mana, yet still getting hit however.
It's niche, but it's basically a safer roll that can be used to iframe through very active attacks easily at the cost of a bit of FP. It's more reliable than rolling, and it keeps you in close range to dish out melee attacks due to your character standing in place.
I used it when fighting Radahn.
- Anonymous
This seems to be a one time use shield? Has anyone tested to see how effective this is? How does it compare to Barricade Shield?
- Anonymous
really niche use would be to i-frame exploding physick flask since you can't roll it. can't think of anything else
- Anonymous
Seemed to have work miracously during a fight, wondered why i wasn't being hit after doing another whirlwind attack maybe it was this? idk.
- Anonymous
For those asking how does this work or how long it lasts, it is used on the moment (or moments before) the attack hit. Basically negates all damage from all directions for that half-second.

Does anyone know how this works? doesnt seem to do anything

Clad in prayer, I am invincible!
