Silences footsteps, reduces fall damage / sound
![]() |
Assassin's Approach is an Incantation in Elden Ring. The Assassin's Approach spell can be cast to temporarily silence the footsteps of the caster, increasing their stealth. It also negates Fall Damage for non-lethal falls. Updated to Patch 1.07.
Incantation of the Two Fingers' servants, who once served as the assassins of the Roundtable Hold.
Completely silences the footsteps of the caster. Additionally, reduces fall damage and the sound produced by falling.
This incantation can be cast while in motion or crouching.
The assassins were charged with eliminating Tarnished who had strayed from guidance.
Where to find Assassin's Approach
Where to find Assassin's Approach:

- Purchase from Brother Corhyn or Miriel, Pastor of Vows after giving either the Assassin's Prayerbook.
- Cost = 2000
Elden Ring Assassin's Approach Guide
- Two Fingers Incantation
- Duration: 30 seconds
- Stamina Cost: 13
- Assassin's Approach, the Longtail Cat Talisman, and Soft Cotton are three items that prevent Fall Damage from being taken. However they do not change the height at which falls become lethal, which remains fixed at 20 meters. Using one of these means that the fall damage that is normally incurred from 16 m to ~19.9 m isn't taken at all.
- NOTE: Since Patch 1.07 Duration has been extended from 20 to 30 seconds.

This would have been really useful in one of the earlier games. Unfortunately, this is the game where it's easy to craft as much Soft Cotton as you want, so it's just a waste of a spell slot and FP.

I'll never understand why they split Hidden Body into two different spells, Assassin's Approach is the sound negation and Unseen Form is the semi-transparency. Guess they thought it'd be too good?

Seems to be a lot of hate on this, but for me at least (starting playing from v.106), this has always been in one of my casting slots. As a non caster, use this pretty frequently when platforming and picking off solo mobs

its referred to as a sorcery in the item description. surprised they havent corrected that yet

With proper timing, this can sometimes confuse the chariots into not following you. Cast when in a bottom niche and chariot is at the top. Drop down and run away, chariot should stay on upper track.

How to make this spell not complete trash:
1) Increase its duration to 60-80 seconds
2) Reduce the FP cost down to 10
3) Give it 11% critical damage bonus (Effectively 10% more damage when doing crits)
4) Make it so that Backstabs are silent while this is active (So you can sneak around and stab someone without alerting all enemies withing 14 miles... So you can sneak around and stab someone else too... Which is one of the problems with stealth in this game, you only get to sneak up on 1 guy and then his 200 buddies come charging at you)

I don't really get why this incantation even exist, at least with its actual stats
don't get me wrong, the effect in itself are definitively useful, at least for the stealth part (check discussion about assassin's approach and/or soft cotton to see how the "reduce fall damage" part is generally useless)
why i think this incantation is useless is because of its costs versus what it "should" give in return : the effects are roughly the same as if you used soft cotton and equal or less duration
If we compared their costs/requirement : we can get the recipe for soft cotton quite easily and without the need to fight anything, just travelling, then it require "rowa fruit" and "smoldering butterfly" two of the most easiest/common material you could get in the world, so by no means it is difficult to craft dozens of those
let's now see what require "assassin's approach" : either chosing confessor as starting class or 3 stone sword key in total to get the prayer book, then require one memory slot and 15FP to cast (one urgent heal cost 16 FP and also one memory slot, so you're basically sacrificing one self heal for the effect of a common item)
either fromsoft should reduce its FP cost/upgrade its duration or give this incantations other effect (like long distant invisibility or bonus for the next backstab) because as it is now, its just too costly when you have much cheaper options/alternatives and also available earlier (when going anything else than confessor)

I rarely need this. Crouching works fine. And when crouching doesn't work, this incantation doesn't work either. Example: the room with a page and two perfumers in early Leyndell. I was trying to find a way to take out the group one by one with poison. Or backstab. But they are hyper-alert, and even if you approach one from the back, they will aggro. This incantation doesn't make any difference. Or maybe the 15 seconds wore off? Barely enough time to get into the room and in position. Worthless.

It also works when you cast it on Torrent, making him completely silent, and with unseen form also cast on torrent you are invisible and silent.

Yeah its useful. For 15 seconds at a time. So it is really pointless.

Everyone saying that this is a pointless incantation because they can just crouch walk don't realize how much more stealth options being able to not only jump but sprint jump in complete silence opens up.

damage nerfed and fp cost increased 12 > 15 with the shadow nerfs of 1.03 patch
why from. why. this is literally worse than soft cotton. why.

This is really bad. All it does is remove the need to crouch so you can sneak faster, but it only lasts 15 seconds.
The fall damage reduction only reduces the damage you can take from falling; it doesn’t allow you to survive further falls. And the window between no damage and instant death is incredibly narrow anyway.
There’s a talisman which outright removes fall damage at all times, and even that isn’t useful.
This should have a much longer duration, at least.

Actually useless since many enemies are scripted to notice and attack you once you get within a certain radius, regardless if they’ve seen or heard you.

The only place I’ve been able to find this spell useful is at the divine tower of caelid to get to the bottom. Other then that, it hasn’t really done me any good, and I’ve been running it up to Altus.

Is this good for sneaking around groups of enemies? I thought crouching was enough?

Duration is around 15 seconds, so if you want to use it regularly consider taking the talisman that gives FP on critical strikes.

You can cast this while on your horse to greatly reduce fall damage of the horse itself. Can get you in some... interesting places.

I'm so happy to see this spell finally be useful. Even though it's still a bit gimmicky, it's so much fun to sprint around enemy camps and backstab everything
