Axe of Godrick is a Greataxe in Elden Ring. The Axe of Godrick scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity, and is a good Weapon for melee characters that prefer slow, but powerful attacks.
Greataxe wielded by Godrick the Grafted. This golden battleaxe is emblazoned with the figure of a beast, representing the strength of Godfrey, First Elden Lord and patriarch of the golden lineage.
"I command thee kneel! For I am the lord of all that is golden!"

Such a fun Weapon for PvE with great Range and "okay-ish" AoW, but this thing really shines in PvP for me AoW works there great in the right times!
- Anonymous
A shame you can’t infuse this with some of the storm AoWs, would be fun to do a rolling jump attack with this weapon like the boss. Though, in terms of balancing it makes sense to be unable to infuse this.
- Anonymous
The weapon art of this weapon does less damage If you hit with the axe upclose instead of keeping a distance I tested on Niall. 1500 not hitting him. 1000 hitting him.
biggest difference was on the third hit
it was the difference between dealing around 3 or 4 hundred and dealing around 8 or 900

They need to lower the dexterity requirements of this weapon so that some classes/builds can actually use it after defeating Godrick
Who on earth already has 23 str and 22 dext after defeating Godrick?
- Anonymous
I find it funny how Godrick’s Axe is only classified as a greataxe while Godfrey’s Axe is a colossal weapon.

PROS:
High AR on a pure quality build
Golf swing heavy attack
Ash of war is decently cheap FP wise and has fantastic range
CONS:
Requires huge stat investment
Quality stat spread is not very viable until late game
Ash of war hits like a wet fart at the bare minimum stats and is kinda slow

Best looking axe in the game. Using this alongside the Partisan with my Godrick Knight set and gilded greatshield, a full out homage to Limgrave, the best area in the game.
Also, feels good carrying this axe to the glory poor Godrick never got to experience.
- Anonymous
Love that its R2 is the same sweeping slash Godrick himself does in the fight, sparks and all. A detail most people don´t seem to notice.
- Anonymous
Been doing a fun run with this in the open world and swapping to a quality nagakiba for bosses. You can R1 chain most of the difficult enemies off the flinches, and AOW down the trash mob groups.
- Anonymous
The AOW is amazing for ambushing hosts around corners. With shard of alexander it hits like a truck and unlike hoarah loux's earthshaker it's not telegraphed by your character screaming.
It's definitely the best looking axe, too bad it has such a big dexterity requirement. Such a big double axe-bladed weapon with such mass... should have had a high str and low dex requirement, but oh well. It has almost been a year, changes aren't likely.
- Anonymous
All things considered, I think Godricks axe looks a lot nicer then Godfreys, which it's supposed to be mimicing
- Anonymous
This is one of those weapons that really needs the little boost from shard of alexander to push it from mediocre to good.

This weapon is criminally good now that Greataxes got buffed. Good attack speed, unique heavies, early acquisition, and an excellent Ash of War. It's true that on enemies that can't get staggered, like trolls, or extremely large enemies like Maliketh, the AOW isn't great. But it's fantastic everywhere else. On the landscape, you can stunlock most basic enemies if you don't outright kill them, and sending them flying on the third cast is always hilarious. NPC invaders get absolutely **** on with this thing. Renala was SUPER easy with this. Just run up to her and cast the AOW, stunlock, and then send her flying with the third smash. She died before she could even summon something on my recent playthrough.
The only thing that sucks is the stat investment. But imo, it's worth it. This thing is a menace.

This is actually a good weapon now. I was doing a Str/Faith playthrough and thought I would respec and experiment with a Quality build halfway through. I just wanted to play around with the weapon and never thought I would keep it. Its got a good moveset, the weapon art is actually quite useful, and amusing at times since it goes through walls, but most of all, what saves this is the speed. Its a fast two hander and it does pretty good damage. I am using it in the Haligtree and having zero issues. You know a weapon is good when you arent struggling and the game just "flows." Anyway, give it a try, the patches have really been kind to it.

This weapon carried me all the way until I got RoB in my first NG and I still occasionally switch it on. Very underrated for as early as it is.
- Anonymous
buffing the scaling and adding hyper armor to the weapon art would make this one of the best weapons in the game

Been using this in my most recent playthrough and the greataxe buffs have been very kind to it. It's attacks are fast and it's charge attack at +3 with minimum requirements was dealing about 1500 damage to loretta, with the talisman and physick of course. It has excellent range, seeming to rival most halberds. It doesn't weigh much either. The weapon art does a lot of damage too, about 600 for the first 2 hits and another 600 for the last hit, which can roll catch since it's input can be delayed. The ash still needs a touch of love because it takes WAY too much stamina to use and feels like it should be able to be charged, but it's really strong besides that.
Also even though it has a C in str and dex it has as much base damage as the greatsword, which is a whole weapon class higher and it attacks MUCH faster. Very under rated weapon
- Anonymous
Worse version of Mornes GH in DS3, a cool looking weapon with a fun AoW but underwhelming damage. Monres GH was wasaaay cooler too.
- Anonymous
It's a very strong weapon, yet it is extremely beginner hostile, as those requirements go against any way to build a character...
Raise the str requirements and faith requirements if you will, but leave dex out of it!
22 Dex is a massive investment for a weapon that will be benched for the majority of boss mechanics.
- Anonymous
Don’t see enough people mentioning how the axe’s weapon skill can hit through like, anything. The shockwave goes through walls and barriers and it makes it really good at dealing with invaders and crowds in tight spaces
- Anonymous
If only the r2s yeeted enemies into the air like the black Knight Greataxe could.
- Anonymous
they really need to increase the base damage on all these weapons with crazy stats and scaling. serpent hammer than bernahl uses suffers from the same issues
- Anonymous
This axe is straight up weak. For a Quality build item, it not only doesn't outpace other Strength-based axe options at high levels, it lags significantly behind while requiring dozens of levels of extra stat investment. A pure Strength build using a different axe could instead put those into Vigor or Int/Faith to be able to cast a few spells. About the only thing this axe has going for it is that it's incredibly long...longer than the Longhaft Axe. As such, you might land a few max-range hits that other axes would miss from time to time. Apart from that, this axe is in desperate need of a buff to its scaling, especially considering it's supposed to be a boss weapon.

One of the blurbs says “This weapon has a unique R2, shared with Crescent Moon Axe.”
Well then, it isn’t unique is it?
- Anonymous
Wtf are these requirements. "Though handling it likely requires the wielder to have surpassed the realm of the merely human,
it is precisely for this reason the weapon is used to slaughter even inhuman foes." - Greatsword (Colossal Weapon)
The greatsword which requires surpassed human strength only takes 31 strength and 12 dexterity and weighs 23.0.
Compare this to Axe of Godrick which requires 34 strength and 22 dexterity. Are you telling me... that this axe that weighs 11.0 requires MORE strength to be wielded AND more dexterity than the greatsword?
Also why dexterity in the first place? Godrick himself in the cutscene says "Bring me strength o kindred...". He wants more strength so he can be stronger, he is not warrior (Uses dex), he is a coward with the belief and faith that he can best anyone and even tried to battle Malenia which is where he had no chance. He uses faith and strength and his' weapon should reflect that, but only the grafted dragon reflects his' faith to become a mighty demi-god one day.
Faith/Strength or Strength only would have been more appropriate in my opinion.

I feel like this weapon definitely needs a buff, not because it’s very underpowered as it is fine and there are clearly worse weapons, but rather due it being completely outclassed by the crescent moon axe. It doesn’t make sense for a boss weapon (that looks beautiful; it’s my favorite design of any weapon) is just a worse version of a common weapon dropped by enemies in the boss’s own area. Maybe they intended for the weapon art to overcome its shortcomings but there are certainly better ashes that the crescent moon axe can be infused with, on top of the crescent moon axe doing better damage, having lower requirements, and having the same moveset.

carried by its cool R2s and its ash of war, otherwise kinda meh

I’m fairly certain the weapon art doesn’t scale with Dex, despite the scalings having you believe it’s a quality weapon. After seeing pitiful damage from a Dex build barely hitting STR requirements, and non skill hits are noticeably more damage. In short, absolutely a strength weapon, unless I’m corrected.
- Anonymous
I love this weapon but they gotta make the ash of war bypass shields.
- Anonymous
The one thing this has over a long shaft axe with waves of darkness is that you get to choose when the third aoe comes out. Otherwise, the above option is a nearly identical experience with more power and versatility. I must admit that godrick's cool factor is off the charts though.
Ah, yes, finally a weapon for all the high-Dex slow weapon builds that totally exist.
Also the hell why isn't it Colossal, dammit?
- Anonymous
Dunno why everybody's complaining about "no hyperamor." Thing has some pretty early hyperarmor on the start up, really surprised me actually lmao. The third hit doesn't seem to have any but if you got heavy armor you'll be fine, in pve it doesn't really matter anyways, and in pvp they're probably either panic rolling or doing anything but attacking you. They'd probably assume the third has hyperarmor and wont go for the trade since this weapon is rarely used in pvp. Pretty solid, I likey.

Shame the stat investment is so high for such a mediocre weapon with a great ash slapped on it

After being disappointed in the winged greathorn, I decided to level up the axe of godrick and powerstance the two just for fun. I couldn't believe my eyes when I tried it though... I mean, an axe that actually has range, a decent moveset, a nice damage and an absolutely awesome weapon art? No way, this can't be happening. Last time I had such fun with a greataxe was back in DS1 with the Demon Axe. I think I just found my build for the first playthrough!

Has it always been the case in souls games for a weapon having a difference of 12 points between the two requirements to pick the weapon up, but scale better to the attribute of the lowest of both requirements? I've always thought a weapon that needed 34 STR and 22 DEX would scale better to STR than DEX?
- Anonymous
I killed godrick a while ago and rennala more recently, I have no use for rennala's remembrance because I don't use sorcery, I don't really like the dragon fist weapon from godricks remembrance and this axe doesn't look all that great to me either.
- Anonymous
A lot of comments about the scaling, and I've been wondering myself. I went with strength, faith, vigor and endurance with the minimum in mind to summon a couple of renowned spirit ashes. But I've been surprised at how many of the coolest and arguably most potentially powerful weapons scale better with dex, quite a few of them weapons I wouldn't have thought would be designed for dex builds. I don't remember getting half way through the dark souls games or bloodborne then regretting the attributes I'd invested in because the best weapons I was finding or dropping from enemies didn't work with my build. But that seems to be the case with pretty much everything up to now in Elden Ring. Ghiza's wheel is a good example. A couple of From Fanboys are saying it makes sense but it doesn't really. Similar thing with the AoWs I thought they were an inspired idea, giving melee build access to some sorcery like glintblade phalanx and giving sorcery builds access to skills like sword dance or storm caller. But they aren't what I thought the were initially, to get the most out of glintblade phalanx or any cold AoW would still need an investment into int, I can see the logic with the AoWs that duplicate a sorcery spell, and bleed or poison scaling to arc, as far as I remember I think they always have, but I don't see any logic in a cold infused weapon scaling to int as well. The longer I play Elden Ring the more I'm finding I don't like it as much as any of the other From Software games.

Question: Is it just me or is the WA of this just a worse Waves of Darkness? (Even with WoD being bugged)
Both do a 3 hit AoE.
But Godrick costs 30 FP for all 3 strikes and requires you to stand there slamming for all of them.
WoD you just spend 16 FP and do the initial stab into the ground (Which in of itself, can hit and deal damage) and then you can do whatever while it pulses away.
The only thing Godrick has going for it is the knockup on the third pulse. Meanwhile, WoD can be put on a number of different weapons and in a number of different affinities such as on the Guts Sword or Great Stars (You can even make your own Axe of Godrick by putting WoD on a Crescent Moon Axe and going Quality affinity... Meaning a better WA AND B/B scaling with the exact same move set)
If WoD didn't have a bugged follow up attack (It currently has no hitbox so it doesn't do anything) it'd also have THAT on top.
I suppose Axe of Godrick is available earlier than Waves of Darkness but still... For a "Special Boss Weapon" to literally get upgraded by a better, more versatile option seems kind of strange.
Honestly, would have been more interesting to have an L2 that allowed you to do his Fire Whirlwind with R2 and the Fire Wind Gust with R1. At least then it'd be unique by combining 2 Stormveil WA's (Stormcaller and Storm Blade) and adding Godrick's unique fire aspect from his phase 2 to them.
- Anonymous
I’m currently using this on a STR/FAI build and it’s actually quite nice for larger bosses that you can’t get super close to. The attack speed is pretty fast for a weapon this big, but jump attacks make it even easier to deal damage and dip out when they retaliate.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The backstep R1 seems like it borrows from old school black knight greataxe....
- Anonymous
I see people complaining the weapon art doesn't have hyper armor, but the inital slamdown most certainly does. The followup L2 attack, however, has no hyperamor. But the initial L2 slam does have some amount of hyperarmor.
- Anonymous
I get it, the hammer is very heavy and it takes time to do the slam, but for god sake why does the slam doesn't give you hyper armor. Literally, anything that touches you gonna stagger the animation and cancel it. If you gonna punish me for doing the slam then at least let me punish you back with one guarantee slam hit, I don't even ask for 2 slams, just 1

"This upgrade can be enchanted with Magic or boosted with Consumables." NOT true. cant put flame grease and cant enchant it.

got a rivers of blood spammer with the 3rd slam, felt so good

I wish more boss weapons were this cool. Sure, the weapon art, but THE R2! That's what I want! A unique R2!
- Anonymous
There should be the option to graft axes to your body in this game
- Anonymous
Why is it that so many large weapons in this game scale with dex or just have blatantly bad strength scaling? Ghiza’s Wheel, Godrick’s Axe, Axe of Godfrey, all of them scale way too much with dex for being such large weapons.
Embrace the quality build. This thing is crazy good and overlooked. The weapon art is slow but all 3 shockwaves can easily hit for a total of 2500-3000 if they connect, the final shockwave is more or less a guaranteed 1000+ hit.
- Anonymous
One of the best looking axes too bad they made unique and cant grease it or change art of war
- Anonymous
The weapon art off this is actually pretty good, it's slow initial cast BUUUUT it goes through solid walls making it pretty fun to invade people in city areas with.
- Anonymous
In PVP you can roll through the weapon skill. I'm not sure how but you can.
- Anonymous
when i first saw this weapon, from the gameplay trailer, i thought it was going to have the BKGA moveset. sadly not but still a pretty cool weapon overall. (still miss my charged floor dragging R2 tho)

Can Grease be used on this weapon or other weapon incantations?

This weapon doesn't seem to be able to be 'enchanted' with invocations(I haven't checked with sorceries), so if you're looking for a weapon for your strength/faith character choose something else.
Unless it just can't be used with black flame blade, which is what I used to test it.

Horizontal R2 is what makes it stand out from most typical great axes. The skill seems to do good damage and has good range. Can't wait to see how it performs in invasion

Another day, another garbage boss weapon in a FromSoft game.

Interesting little bit: I have 54 strength and 22 dex. I just upgraded this axe to +9. I wanted something in-between a colossal weapon and a normal axe. The damage is good. The axe is surprisingly fast. The best part though... this axe in the hands of a +10 mimic was amazing. They seemed to use the weapon art at the perfect times. Was a real joy to watch! Its a good weapon, perhaps not the "best", but I'm having a great time with it.
I cannot emphasis enough that this weapon swings way faster than I expected. Both light and heavy.
- Anonymous
what nis minimum requirements to 2 hand this thing even tho normal dmg looks kinda bad im excited to try it it swings faster then i thought good looking wep ability
- Anonymous
If unsure, duplicate it in Walking Mausoleum and then sell one copy for 20K to the blacksmith in roundtable and turn the other one into the axe to try it out. If it's not your kind of a weapon, you'll at least keep the 20K.
- Anonymous
Looks like another boss weapon I’ll get and say I’ll use, and completely forget about it on my adventure
- Anonymous
If not for the dex req and scaling, the long reach on this greataxe would have been awesome. Pity
- Anonymous
it seems to do crap base dmg and requires somber stone for crap upgrade wtf Sadge
- Anonymous
Why the heck this greataxe is closer to a quality build than str build? The only reason I'm skipping this greataxe.

PVE, this thing can poise break things easily. WA does good damage and has suprising range, 2nd R2 tap sends out a third shockwave that launches most small enemies.
Dat FP drain tho
- Anonymous
It's a really good farming tool, and the AoE has bonkers damage, with the third hit doing AoE knockup. It's also amazing vs small mobs and crowds, since the AI doesnt account for AoE weapon skills.
It's not a trading weapon art, and most people think it's crap for that reason. I strongly recommend giving this weapon a try.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This axe is pure garbage, don't waste your stones. From what I can tell, the weapon art doesn't have hyper armor and the guard break on the charge attack is terrible. The weapon art is also super telegraphed and easy to dodge. Combined with how slow the axe is, it's F tier for both PvP and PvE.
But dammit the weapon art is so epic.

This has to be one of the most criminally underrated weapons in ER. This axe looks super cool, has a super satisfying and powerful move set, and the weapon skill can be used to great effect in PVE and PVP. Watching enemies fly into the air never gets old. It is probably my favorite quality weapon.
