Bastard Sword is a Greatsword in Elden Ring. The Bastard Sword scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity is a good Weapon for melee users who want to perform longer-reaching heavier hits. 

A heavier sword perfect for those who prefer dodge rather than performing parries. It can be wielded with one hand only, but it's attack will be much slower leaving less room for error.

This heavy sword is normally wielded with two hands, but those with sufficient strength can wield it in one alone.
The hefty blade can be swung into multiple foes at once thanks to the broad, sweeping attack, making fending off crowds all the easier.

  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War and buffed with Magic and Consumables
  • Bastard Sword is upgraded with Smithing Stones.
  • Heavy infused bastard sword+25 at 66 strength (two-handed) has 720 AR. 
  • The Bastard Sword is not the top in damage or stagger, but it’s high base damage to stat requirement ratio makes it great for versatility builds and PvE.
  • Receives the prefix "Bloody" when granted a Blood infusion, instead of the normal "Blood" prefix. 
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below. Additionally, speed, range, recovery time and guard counter speed of Greatswords weapons has increased.

      This weapon is another Berserk reference. In Guts's early life one of his first weapons was a "Bastard Sword" which was used during a castle siege. The fact this is found right in front of Castle Morne is a reference to that.

        Shouldn't this have the Knight moveset for "clearing crowds easier"?

        I know it swings the same since dark souls but those duel slashes seem to cover more space than slamming the sword like its a club

              Account Banned Knight's Great Sword = Weights 10
              Artorias Great Sword = Weights 10
              Conjoined Twin Great Sword = Weights 10

              Bastard Sword = Weights 9

              And yet, those three above have unique moveset...
              While Bastard Sword was meant to be a half of Straight and Great Sword in real life, so it's heavy but long for a Straight Sword, and light but short for a Great Sword...

                Now I finally understand what all these comments mean by cold bastard lol. This is so good as cold infusion. Pure str run rn with no int, and it slaps. It's an amazing early version of the Iron greatsword

                    This thing not having the banished knight R1 is an actual war crime. What kind of malnourished degenerate swings a bastard sword into the ground?

                    Of all the basic greatswords to get the nice R1, they chose the 2 ugliest ones. Claymore, flamberge and bastard all got cucked for no reason. Oh well, back to my Flamberge I guess.

                      I'm in love with this thing. It's a greatsword so it feels good to use and breaks stances like no-one's business. None of its moves are so good you'll end up spamming just one, but neither are any of them so bad you'll never use them. Its damage it respectable, but not so overtuned it trivializes the game. It's one of the most stylish weapons there is, if you like swords that don't resemble paddles. And looking like a basic ***** knight while fighting gods and dragons just oozes badass.

                      Also you get to name it "Bloody Bastard". I couldn't invent a better weapon if I tried.

                      Miyazaki, I will offer you my firstborn if you bring back the smooth r1 - r2 animation from earlier games.

                          This should weigh less and swing faster than the Claymore, while also having a thrust. The trade-offs should be lower weight and AR. That would make it a true one-and-half hand sword. Instead, it weighs the same, has the same swing speed, a worse moveset, lower damage and worse range. Lul.

                              This sword is quite underrated on a STR build after 1.09. Honestly, I'd say it's better than the Claymore now since the Claymore's heavy attacks weren't touched.

                                  This is clearly the tiniest greatsword, so why does it weigh 9 units, the same as the claymore? Its very clearly substantially smaller than the claymore. It should have weighed 8 unites. That would have given more reason to use this sword over the various alternatives.

                                    Powerstanced with the Claymore (which I prefer righthanded for the poke), you may enjoy the benefit of great fashion. I like that both swords have a similar knob, length, and plain steel aesthetic. Also you can get them fairly early in the Weeping Peninsula, which leaves a lot of room for experimentation with different infusions and ashes of war throughout the game (Frost and Fire are strong but not broken imo).

                                      This is a mainstay in every single melee focused build of mine. Claymore, Flamberge, Banished and knights GS have enough unique stuff going for them that they're not a main competiton with this sword.


                                      Even though its one of the weaker Greatswords it gets better scaling than lordsworn's on cold and arcane infusions, it looks miles better than the cheetos toy sword and its not a nightmare to farm like iron greatsword. Its a shame it is not more common in pvp, if i could change some movesets I would put one handed thrust r2s on this and two handed thrust r2s on banished/knights. But if they decide to put square off back i will put that on this, bastard sword is basically a longsword without the thrusts anyways.

                                          The bastard sword was "one hand and half" kind of sword preferably used by cavalry, it was longer than a standard sword but shorter than a claymore or spadone, this said: why didn't they make a different moveset for it? Or at least use the knight's/banished moveset... all those other greatswords are swung like hammers wth, always bugged me even in older DS

                                            I compared the AR from this one in every stat at 50 to other contenders with that stat, and the bastard sword is always worse, but for a negligable amount, in most cases it will still take just as many hits to kill. If you ever see somebody use this in PVP, you still don't know what their build is about.

                                                What weapon arts do you guys use for your basstard?

                                                Whenever I powerstance, I always end up going for bloodhounds step, but I want something that's like aggressive offensive like a chase down. I tried double slash, haven't found sword dance yet, so yeah.

                                                  Heavy infused bastard sword+25 at 66 strength (two-handed) has 720 AR. That's only 9 less AR than a heavy infused zweihander. Only 9 less AR than a colossal sword on a strength build.

                                                  This thing is a pocket ultra weapon. Just 9 weight. It's basically the smallest colossal sword. It smashes and slashes like an ultra weapon, but you can slap sword dance or flaming strike on it.

                                                  Claymore only gets 705 AR on the same build.

                                                  The Claymore is an oversized straight sword.
                                                  The Bastard Sword is a colossal sword that fits in your pocket.

                                                    The bastard sword does less damage than the great axe and less stagger than the great mace. However it has a 21:1 base damage to strength ratio at +25, where the great axe/mace both have a roughly 12:1 ratio. It's also the lightest in weight. This means if you invest only the minimum 16 STR, you're getting high base damage, low weight, and more stat points to spread around. The points saved can be placed in Mind for more FP to spam weapon art. Or in Endurance to powerstance 2 swords with higher stamina for chaining attacks. This is useful for low-level PvE where stat points are limited. The bastard sword is the top in damage or stagger, but it’s high base damage to stat requirement ratio makes it great for versatility builds and PvE imo.

                                                      i love the design of this, it would probably be my favorite elden ring weapon if it had the R2 moveset of claymore. man i love the thrust R2... i really wish it wasn't exclusive to the claymore

                                                        Could someone educate me and tell me what advantage does Bastard sword has over other generic greatsword such as Claymore, Knight's Greatsword and Banished Knight's Greatsword? All I know is it is known as the shortest of the greatsword, but I do not know if it has any advantages at all.

                                                          Is it just me or 1hand charge attack and 1hand jump heavy attack deals more posture damage than 2 hand? Fought Mohg and can't stagger him with 2 hand charge attack but the 1 hand charge attack wrecks him more often.

                                                            I think they nerfed Heavy Bastard Sword? my +22 is now 272 base, whereas the table has it as 290. They have probably fixed +25 reducing damage also
