Beast-Repellent Torch is a Torch in Elden Ring. The Beast-Repellent Torch scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good tool for keeping certain creatures away.
A torch which burns oil infused with a special incense. The aroma pacifies wild beasts.

Elden Ring Beast-Repellent Torch Notes & Tips
- Weapon Skill: Torch Attack
- This weapon can be infused with the Ash of War: No Skill
- This weapon can not be enchanted with Magic or boosted with Consumables
- While held in either hand (or on the back while two-handing something else), certain creatures will not attack the player. The affected creatures are: Lone Wolves, Dogs, Giant Dogs (only those that do not have glowing red eyes), Boars, Sheep, Bears (not Lesser Runebears), Rats, Giant Rats, Basilisks, and Crystal Snails. If spotted by a creature, the creature will stay focused on the player (as if they are readying to attack), but will keep their distance and not attack. If the player attacks the creature or approaches too closely for too long, the creature will attack the player as normal. Putting the torch away and pulling it back out again will cause the creature to cease attacking the player once more.
- Some Basilisks will attack with Death Blight breath upon first seeing the player, even if the player has the Beast-Repellent Torch equipped. After this initial attack, they will cease attacking while the player has the Beast-Repellent Torch out.
- The torch's effect remains active while riding Torrent, regardless of the hand that is holding it.
- Sell Value:
100 Runes
- It has the same model as the Torch, but a different flame.
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.

Doesn't work against "Monstrous Snow Dog" and "Monstrous Blood Crow" even though it work on "Monstrous Dog" and "Monstrous Crow".

One of the best items in the game. Dogs are a major pain in the ass in every Soulslike game, so being able to pacify them and safely run past them is a godsend.

Wish I had known earlier that this works on snails and basilisks.

It also works if it’s in your left hand while you two hand a weapon in your right, very effective and very good

Very helpful when you want to climb the ladder in the Frenzy Flaming Tower. Those rats and the madness build up killed me a lot of times.
The amount of Bloodborne references in here makes me enjoy this community a lot...then I do PVP and I question that sentiment immediately.

The reason some basilisks still attack is because their AI is coded to attack when you walk into a certain area, and this takes precedence over having this torch (or being in stealth/invisible).
This lets you just walk past a lot of beast enemies or fully charge an attack right in their face.

the giant dogs in mountaintops don’t care if you have this, even if the eyes aren’t red

I was hoping those big bast*rd crows would be affected by it.

Does this consistently work on the cancerous dogs that can do massive damage with bleed or scarlet rot when they bite? I don't mean the T-rex dogs, I mean the regular sized ones like those outside writheblood ruins? Also is there any point in upgrading the torches if they are not used as weapons, only used for their passive effect?
- Anonymous
what does the page mean "by nightmare caelid dogs" the cancerous dogs that inflict scarlet rot with their bite, or the T-rex dogs? I know it says it wont work on the ones that have red glowing eyes, but don't all the T-rex dogs have red eyes?

Anyone else try this on big dogs in mountain top to only get mauled shortly after

The torch doesn’t appear to work on the wolves inside Caria Manor… curious

The most overpowered item in the game. Get ****ed, basilisks.
OMG, I just found about this and I can avoid all the rat attacks :/

People: I go to early Caelid for easy runes (+Radagon seal)
Me: I go to buy a freaking torch

It has a different lighting effect than the other torches. It emits a red light, which is really cool.

I cant believe I ever played the game without this.
Hell, it even a better TORCH. It literally is more effective at lighting areas up. (or at least seemed so to me.)

An absolute godsend in rooms filled with rats, makes getting through Subterranean Shunning Grounds a bit less of a pain.
For only 1200 Runes no real reason to pass up on this, if just for the utility.

You can hug the nightmare dogs in caelid during about 15 seconds before they attack (I tried rolling on them several times), incredibly efficient. Might be useful to loot a lot of place quickly. Also if one attack the others don't, incredible. Why isn't this torch more popular is beyond me, I just discovered it randomly on a merchant.

I do not need repellent from beasts; beasts need repellent from me.
For those who say this doesn't work, there are MANY enemies are scripted to attack when you first approach them. Usually it's the ones that ambush you. This scripted attack will happen even they can't see you or you're holding this torch. So if a Wolf or a Basilisk attacks you while you are holding this, they should de-aggro after their first attack.

Quite possibly the best non-damage utility 'weapon' in the game. Turns a not-insignificant number of otherwise very dicey or aggravating encounters and areas into a visit to the zoo. I've never had it unequipped since finding it, the beast torch is ALWAYS ready to go in a left hand slot.
A must for the lake of rot, along with flame cleanse me and Mushroom set

Wiki info is incorrect. It can be infused with ashes of war. I have no skill infused on mine allowing me to use my main hand L2 while still wielding the torch.

The one thing I want it for it doesn't work against. I hate those birds. So much.

Love this thing. One of the first things I do every play through is ride to the Bestial Sanctum teleport, (cheese the Nights Cavalry and giant dragon for runes, and ride to the merchant for this thing.

The red moon hangs low, and beasts rule the streets. Are we left no other choice, than to burn it all to cinders?

This torch definitely helps in one of those "oops, i fell into the middle of giant rats" situation.. they will back off and not attack right away.

Works on the T-Rex dogs in Caelid (minus the red eyed ones) but not the ones in the mountaintops for whatever reason.

It also affects snails. Go into Volcano Manor or any of the caves with them and watch them become pets.
I've walked straight into the very large dogs in Caelid with this torch and they still did nothing, usually when you get attacked it's because you or some random soldier has aggroed in that vicinity. I would also say that testing from me showed that it depends on the mob as well, for instance the large dogs near Redmane are in 2 groups, one is actively engaged in battle but further up the hill is another pack that is passive. However, both packs attacked me unprovoked while using that torch, indicating that the passive group is still triggered to ignore the torch. As another comment said it appears to be red-eyed animals that ignore the torch.
- Anonymous
Still works even when it's kept on your back while 2-handing another weapon. Same goes for horseback. You don't have to physically keep it in a hand to get the beast repellent effect, it only needs to be visible on your character.

Dying once to a rat swarm is embarrassing enough. Die your second time? Seek this out. Best torch. Now those high level frenzied rats just stare at me. Can make some dungeons and other encounters a *lot* easier to deal with.
Doesn't work on any of the 'special' animals. IE the giiiiant bear or giant wolf (Works on giant Rat though!).

In my experience doesn’t work on rats *shrug* godsend for dogs tho lol

note that if you attack the animal while wielding it, it will retaliate
