Killed the assassin, but didn’t get the dagger, only looted the death root. Boss is defeated, I am screwed? I still got the map

I messed up Rogier's quest by talking to Ranni and agreeing to enter her service before Rogier told me to, and I've definitely been locked out of that because he fell asleep and never woke up.
But how does Fia play into all this? I haven't let her hug me because of the de-buff. What is the benefit of doing Fia's part of the quest if Rogier's was skipped?

I just want to say thank you. The amount of work is colossal. Fextralife is the best. Period. They have EVERYTHING down to the NPC conversation. You are deconstructing the game. In a professional way. Lets be grateful.

so I skipped Rogier's quest by initiating Ranni's quest before giving the Black Knife fingerprint to him, pretty nice, because I saved a lot of time going from place to place, but now I got this key item in my inventory, without any apparent use to it. Rogier is dead now, so anybody know if it has any other purpose than being a trigger to continue Rogier's questline? it's just funny to have this item just sitting there lol
It's Fia's quest, not Rogier's.... it's a map she gives you and it's in your inventory. I've posted here 6 times, but somehow my posts aren't working. Figures.
Fia gives the clue not rogier or anyone else. Fia gives you the map for the knifeprint dagger. It's not Rogier's quest, it's not D's quest.... It's Fia
s quest and you can view the map in your inventory.

I have the knife but Rogier’s asleep. Can’t give it to him. Fromsoftware’s quest design is absolutely awful. So many missed / skipped quest dialogues with absolutely no indication of what’s happening.

Not reading items, not listening to dialogue, and playing Elden Ring without having played any Soulsborne title before this... gets confused about how to approach the game.
Like watching Star Wars Episode 5, and asking why Leia is making out with Luke, or wondering how Han can understand Chewbacca.
If you're confused, use a walkthrough, or guide.
Games before the internet were like, "Well, I guess the Water Temple doesn't exist."

For everyone who's saying his quest goes nowhere, it's literally intermixed with Ranni, Fia, and D's questline you donuts. When you talk with Fia while she's holding you she gives you hints where to find the knife print, and eventually takes the completed curse mark and leads to an ending, requiring you to even fight him as a phantom. On top of that he leads you to Ranni and tells you about D and later a note leading to his brother, who is important regarding Fia.
Your "reward" is literally being lead by the nose to Ranni and Fia's quests, which are tied to two of the endings, an awesome sword, etc. As for people complaining about him having no lore importance, literally read above. He teaches you about the night of black knives, Ranni's involvement, about those who live in death, and that there may be another way beyond purging them from existence, y'know, Fia's goal.
Don't let any of these people find out about Sekiro's hardest to get ending where your quest reward is a defense boosting consumable fruit and some slow heal over time rice for what is the the most annoying quest in any of the souls games. Beyond maybe DS3's lord of dark ending. Which also has an NPC who gives you very little, (3 free level ups in return for a mountain of deaths) but leads you to one/two questlines.

I have to smile about people playing some sort of Sandbox game but complain, if their doings interact with questlines that simple wont happen because of... wait. Sandbox ;) ?

So ultimatively, this doesnt do anything and is just lore flavor implemented to explain something you get to know anyway later on, while other crucial areas of the game were left completely untouched and unexplained.
Cool
Rogiers Questline leads nowhere. And this item thus leads nowhere.
I was first freaking out when he said you could infuse an item with a death ability, you know, getting an ash of war with death status effect, maybe applay death status effect to a weapon of your choice or whatever.
But no. His questline only gives you his rapier, some basic lore info you mostly get from the games intro anyway, it costs your time running back and forth between several NPCs (especially getting hugsucked wastes your time) only to get to a new questline you would not miss anyway.
And all of that, is actually pretty hidden.
I dont know guys, but this game received attention on the wrong places. Just give me some more lore about those cool castles you find all around the world and why there is a giant dragon or why that other castle is being attacked by flame monks and has an empty chest.
Thats far more interesting than "im Rogier, i die before i have something valuable to tell, go to that other person because i just pass out now before becoming actually useful and fulfilling my goal of saving the world."
His entire quest should have lead to its own game ending involving the black knife gang.
The assassins weirdly didnt receive their own ending or twist, or faction.
But somehow a dude wearing a golden mask with its entirety of a dialogue consisting of "..." takes a prime role.
Ok.

Oh boy I sure love being encouraged to seek out things related to my build but because I went west instead of east I miss content :D

I love how the simple action of speaking to Ranni literally kills rogier questline. Fromsoft stop doing this **** man. The action such as speaking to a npc shouldn't ****ing destroy an entire questline or have you miss on important dialogue relevant to the story. Souls story telling is always so convoluted but interesting. It's a shame they still do this in their games despite them having such fantastic worlds.

Randomly stumbled into the catacombs and found the fake wall while exploring.
Killed the optional boss and got the knifeprint.
Why would anyone think this has anything to do with Rogier?
Kept exploring.
Found Ranni's tower and pledged my service to her.
Talked with Rogier randomly in the Hold and he mentioned how he was about to fall into a deep slumber.
Finishing up in Liurnia, figured I'd look up all these random quest things I've got in my inventory to find out where they go.
Find out the knifeprint is supposed to go to Rogier.
Go back to the Hold and now he's asleep.
Guess I'm just outta luck?
Gotta love the great quest design in this game. There's no indication that the knifeprint has any relation to Rogier whatsoever (considering where you obtain it, you'd naturally think it's something for either D or Gurranq), and exploring too much in the same area in which you find it can apparently break the quest resulting in Rogier's death? It wasn't even clear to me that Rogier was dying. He just randomly had a blanket over his legs and flies buzzing around him, and neither he nor D would talk about it other than to imply that whatever was happening was bad.

How do you view/open the kinfeprint clue map? I can't see it anywhere in the inventory.

If you're stuck with Rogier asleep, and you have the Blacknife Print, and did Ranni quest, talk to Fia to get the dagger. give it to D at the roundtable. Rogier should be dead, then you reload the area and Fia will be in a new room where the blacksmith is.

I already completed the cave, didn't get the knife, but still have the mission for it, is this a bug

Does anyone know if this is in anyway useful during the Beast Clergyman/ Maliketh Blackblade fight?

Looking at Fia's bad drawing of the map, I thought it was on the bestial sanctum. I almost killed guranq and cheesed the black kindred with carian sword backstab and run thinking they have this item
got this from catacombs, talked to rogier and gave it to him. after he returned it to me, talked to fia. she gave me a map to print already found and gave a sacrificial twig for showing print to rogier.

I talked to Ranni at Three Sisters and then talked to Rogier. I got the knife print but when I went back to Rogier he was asleep. Is there any way to remedy this?
- Anonymous
so i killed the boss and he dropped a spirit ash and the chest had a deathroot. where the hell is this thing???
- Anonymous
Give the blackknife print to Rogier in the roundtable BEFORE speaking with Ranni at the Three Sisters. This will allow Rogier to understand the lore of the assassination of Godwyn, and as his lower half is being consumed by Death, he can understand the nature of the Death rune that was used to slay Godwyn and it saves his life, though not his legs I dont think.

Give to Rogier.
Re-load area.
Talks of Princess Ranni potentially bearing the cursemark of Destined Death.
He wants it.
also says he want to "Save those who something something death" ,The people who D and his order despise, and that the cursemark may lead to that

Speaking to the lady that hugs you in the HQ will net you a clue map piece about the knife print

umm, I finished Rannis questline before knowing about this and well.... due to circumstances she isnt able to speak, can i even continue on?
- Anonymous
I already completed Ranni's questline, Rogier was dead already. What was this all for? Was it just to reach Ranni? Or is there some bigger mystery? Can you Save Rogier?!
- Anonymous
I died right after the boss did, due to a skeleton that apparently was outside the yellow fog gate. I didn't get this item cause I was killed before I obtained it, but because the boss died, I can't re-fight it.

Rogier's in Roundtable Hold, but there doesn't appear to be an option to give it to him

What happens when Rogier is already dead by the time you get this item? Guess it's just gg?

After giving the knifeprint to Rogier he will tell you to go after Ranni, then he tell's you her location

The black knifeprint can be given to Rogier once he is in Roundtable Hold. He talks about some order of assassins that committed the murder of the first demigod.

You can give it to Rogier but I don't know what that does yet.
Is there even any reason to get this at all? I found myself simply skipping rogiers quest because it seems entirely pointless to me. I can go straight to Ranni and immediately enter her service without having done Rogiers Quest and he dies anyway.
Did I miss something? What is the point of this?
