Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Resistances
-
Poison: 303 / 345 / 443 / 733 / 1190

The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of the given buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs. The values after the "/"s indicate the increased resistances after each successive proc.

Melee Users
The Black Knight Edredd is a fast boss in Shadow of Erdtree, equipped with a double-edged blade and wings that allow it to fly briefly or enhance the speed of its attacks. As a melee user, you must rely on agility, heavy attacks, and good timing to defeat this boss.
At the start of the battle, Edredd starts with the Spinning Soaring Blade Slash. This move involves the knight spotting you from afar and flying towards you while spinning its blades. To avoid taking damage, quickly roll towards Edredd. Successfully evading it provides a brief window to counter with heavy attacks. Due to Edredd being easy to stagger, capitalize on this advantage to land multiple attacks.
Once you’ve dodged the Spinning Soaring Blade Slash, stay close and maintain pressure on Edredd by doing multiple attacks. The key is to match his speed by constantly moving and dodging his blade swings. Edredd's attacks are fast but predictable, learn its patterns and be ready to evade and counter quickly. After each of its attacks, you'll often have a split second to retaliate with your heavy attacks, which can stagger the knight and interrupt its rhythm.
Throughout the fight, maintain a balance between offense and defense. This tactic will gradually wear down his health. Remember to manage your stamina, as constant dodging and attacking can quickly deplete your stamina.

Black Knight Edredd Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Aspects of the Crucible: Wings | Edredd manifests golden wings and flies towards his target, spinning the twinblade. May follow up with other attacks if close-by. | Roll through as he begins to dive down and punish. |
Slash | One of his most common attacks when you're battling him in close range. | This can easily be countered by dodging to the right or parrying it. |
Jump Attack | Edredd will leap high into the air, then slam down his twinblade. | Dodge roll forward; if successful, it will give you a free opportunity to heal or attack. |
6-Hit Combo | Black Knight Edredd will do a combo wherein he will repeatedly swing his twinblade while trying to track you. | Dodge roll into the boss, and the rest of the combo will most likely miss you. Do not dodge away from the boss or on the side. |

Ash of War: Aspects of the Crucible: Wings
This Ash of War grants an armament the Sacred affinity and the following skill:
"Aspects of the Crucible (Wings): This skill originates from the lifeforms of the Crucible. Grow a golden pair of wings and take to the air before diving down at the foe, weapon first. A spinning attack is performed when wielding a twinblade."
Usable on swords as well as polearms capable of thrusting (colossal weapons excepted).
Black Knight Armor
Armor worn by the Black Knights, servants of Messmer the Impaler. Though the engraving above the heart is a Scadutree design, it is etched in gold. A small consolation to those forced to wage a war without grace or honor.
Black Knight Commander Andreas
Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirit of Andreas, Knight-Commander of the Black Knights. The Black Knights were the primary force of Messmer's army. Their first leader was Andreas, a man endowed with great strength and command over the powers of the Crucible, and whose spirit in these ashes dwells. Though he remained a devout follower of Messmer after his flight from the Erdtree, he would rebel after learning of his liege's serpentine nature. His righteous stand was rewarded with imprisonment in an underground tomb.
Black Knight Helm
Helm worn by the Black Knights, servants of Messmer the Impaler. Black iron ornamented with gold. A rotten odor stubbornly clings to it. Perhaps it arises from the tainted nature of the blood that splattered upon it. Or perhaps it is the wearer's own blackened soul, festering after endless slaughter.

I have discovered a cheese strategy for this battle not noted in the page. If using a weapon art that passes through walls (such as Corpse Pile), the player can move just inside the doorway to trigger Edredd's initial diving attack, then move back an to the left. This will cause Edress to dive into the corner and allow the player to attack them through the wall. Note, if you don't get hits in quick enough the AI will back up and go out the door, but haven't tested how quick the attacks need to be.

Someone: “Wow Edredd, you’ve got those super cool Crucible wings! What does your fellow knight Garrew have?”
(Pan over to Garrew using his Crucible tongue to lick up a Giant Dragonfly and swallow it whole through his helmet)
Edredd: “A problem.”

Staggers like a little *****. Parry him once, critical hit him, and then spam Milady heavy attacks and watch him never get back up again.

I didn't know about Scadutree blessings when I faced him (got to him too soon, with the spiritspring). Luckily, on my second attempt Bolt of Gransax just never let him leave the room. Kept knocking him back and down over and over from outside the room.
- Anonymous
Accidentally cheesed this guy, fell off the platform where the grace is located and into the basement, he followed me but not down as far as I was, just stayed up on the main level taking swings at me, so I hit him with a few lightning strikes and was done
- Anonymous
They should've given the Fire Knight Captain Kood the boss treatment instead, imo. Design-wise and lore-wise he deserved it more. Or even better - make them both bosses.
- Anonymous
Very fun to fight. I used to fight him with parry, but this time I fought him with backstab crits. You'll be surprised strong knights in Elden Ring (base and DLC) have super weaknesses where their backs are widely exposed (after attacking with a combo, heavy charged hits, or skill). The devs made a masterpiece on how there are too many things and approaches you can experiment to enjoy the game.

Just got the golden eyes variant. 400K runes. Didn't know this was a thing before it happened, just looked it up now. Handy.
Bewitching Branch works on the two large enemies. They nearly killed the boss themselves.
- Anonymous
Very clearly using a TWINBLADE ONEHANDED, yet has multiple attacks that easily outrange 2handed heavy thrusting swords... makes a ton of sense
- Anonymous
he's super weak to lightning. On a faith build a few Lightning Spear incantations will mow him down.
- Anonymous
The easiest option is to just stand outside his room with the Bolt of Gransax and use its Ancient Lightning Spear ash. Not only is he weak to Lightning, but each charged hit will hard knock him down on the floor, and by the time he goes to stand up, you can hurl another into his chest and knock him back down. He won't even be able to take a single step towards you let alone even THINK about attacking.
Now I can imagine killing him using Golden Scarab, Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot and having golden eyes
- Anonymous
He can get the golden eyes modifier leading him to drop 400k runes
- Anonymous
Random boss jumpscare moment lol, anyway I ran out and he followed me to the grace, then he fell down the hole to the bottom of the fort and hit stuck down there lol, just hit him with pulley crossbow bleed bolts
- Anonymous
Killed him, didn't get the Aspect of the Crucible spell, depression
- Anonymous
took literally 10 seconds to kill him with sepuku black steel twinblade

used malikeths black blade and it knocked him flat on his back every L2 lol

You literally can stagger him, even at level 15 +3/+1, lol. Was actually amused when my cold greatstars smacked this guy first try. He got style, tho
- Anonymous
Known ballhawk drops the AoW that lets you fly at your foe? Lore practically writes itself
- Anonymous
What a try hard this guy. All that spinning and flying stuff just to get parried on the first blow buy a guy with a great pot as helmet

They've got to stop hitting you with guys who look like normal enemies and then jumpscare you with boss healthbars when you snipe them with a ranged attack.
- Anonymous
Tip if you're having trouble: Have him chase you to the nearby site of grace, then jump down the hole into the basement. He should follow you a few seconds later as his path-finding catches up. As soon as you see him drop down, run past the omen killer and out the door and to the right, then up the ladder. Edredd will follow you and you'll have some respite to drink potions or prepare however you need to. Now, as he reaches the top of the ladder, have something ready to hit him with that will knock him back a short distance. He'll fall to his death, or at least take a huge amount of fall damage. If it doesn't kill him, wait until he climbs up the ladder again and repeat.

boss seems weak to fire (fought him with blasphemous blade and rellana's twin swords, did pretty decent damage) and also likes to get stuck under the stairs in his room sometimes

this boss seems very week to bleed, my build is bleed and it killed him in like 3 seconds.

can be one shot with comet azur if well stacked with damage bonuses

I got 400000 runes when I defeated him. I guess he must have had gold eyes. Didn’t know this was possible for overworld bosses.

Easy cheese: Run up the stairs and first ladder in his room, he will follow you allowing for an R2 attack if you wait by the top of the ladder. Jump down, and he'll jump after you and when he lands you have a window for a backstab, then jump down to the floor in his room and he'll jump down after you again, another backstab. Then run upp and climb the ladder again, rince and repeat till he's dead. No hp loss for you :) Good when you're in NG4 like me
- Anonymous
Just go up from the lader strike one or two than jump down, repeat 10 times gg

bro i keep losing because as soon as his hp drops below 50% hp my ps5's fps drops from ~60 to 20 and then almost 5 fps like 10 seconds after the initial dip. Keep watching my idiot stand there as they swap to my parry weapon and just eat full bodied ****...what the hell is going on in this castle? you got a minecraft logic machine running this area?!?
- Anonymous
If you have something that can stagger him, this is actually a decently fun boss. Otherwise, prepare to suffer. Dragon Hunter's Great Katana worked like a charm for me.

- Anonymous
When killing him I received 400k Runes in NG+
He had those glowing eyes for me so idk if that's special or not
- Anonymous
Not unlike Malenia, this fight is trivialized by spamming Eleonora's Poleblades ash of war since it stunlocks him.
- Anonymous
There's a group of cages in one of the lower rooms. Clear out the fort, give him rot, and have him chase you to the cages. Once there, jump behind the cages and he can't get you. You can't really get him except with breath and perfume. He'll wander, but you can use Shabiri's Woe to keep him there.
- Anonymous
Running up the ladder behind him gives you an arena with a lot more space. Int/fth build and literally giantsflame take thee’d spammed him to death after moving to the more open area.
- Anonymous
after 20+ tries, I used beast claws to stun lock the **** out of him
- Anonymous
Equip a decent greatshield and watch this guy crumble against it.
All of his regular attacks (not the big combo or the winged charge) cause him to stagger, opening him up for a safe guard counter. Two or three of those and his stance is broken.
- Anonymous
Beat the absolute crap outta this dude on my first try. Took me at least 15 tries to do Rellana...

Int Faith build. Struggled against him for over an hour - beat Relanna second try. Goes to show how different the experience is for each boss.
- Anonymous
Easily backstabbed, easily guard countered, easily stance broken

this is the funniest boss in the whole game, you fight all these overtuned guys and struggle and then this dude flies right out of the bossroom at you and dies in 4 hits
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
He had the bonus rune golden eyes when I fought him. He dropped 400,000 runes. Something is not right

Dude doesn't even get his own arena, has to fight in the dining room ;_;

ACTUAL BALL HAWK (WHEN HE USES THE ASH OF WAR) ED REED!!! BEST SAFETY OF ALL TIME

This boss, much like most of the other Black Knights in the DLC, can be very easily backstabbing by just circling around them. They have a few attacks with long endlag which allows you to just walk up and backstab them. It doesn't do a ton of damage, but it certainly makes them easier.
- Anonymous
A single charged Ordovis's Vortex breaks his stance. Stagger him, charge it while he gets up, crit, repeat.
- Anonymous
idk if its just me but i fought him once and after that i wsant able to re enter the arena
- Anonymous
idk fi its just me but i died to him once and now i cant enter the arena

This DLC has some really odd standards about which enemies get to be considered bosses and which don't. Devonia and the Furnace Golems don't get healthbars, but this random knight you can find elsewhere as a regular enemy does?

Flew off the edge on the side of the stairs near grace, cheesed him with magic. Can probably get him to fall off the rampart edge I’d imagine

Guard Counters are your friend here. They absolutely wreck him, pretty much zero effort fight with them.

Has anyone else gotten 400k runes off this boss? I was quite surprised.
Stunlockable with a great sword, has pretty easy parry windows.
