Black-Key Bolt is a type of Bolt in Elden Ring. Black-Key Bolts are bolts used in Crepus' Black-Key Crossbow. Ammunition can be used in ranged weapons such as Bows and Crossbows, so players can deal ranged damage to Enemies and Bosses.
Bolts used in Crepus' Black-Key Crossbow, an assassin's tool of exquisite craftmanship.
The intricate spiral tip bores deep, injecting scarlet rot far into the flesh of its target.

5 more buildup? literally why would i ever use these unless i was duping or being a min max shitter

Might be copium, but It'd be cool to meet Crepus and buy his bolts from him in the DLC

Has to be cut content, not being able to craft, farm, or buy these. Like wtf fromsoft why. You can run through arrows and bolts so fast

How come there’s always limited quantities of items that influence twinkers and dupers while punishing fair players it doesn’t make sense

If you ever needed a reason to mod your game to justify giving yourself infinite of a resource, this is one reason.

I'm such a dumbass. Instead of just looking to see how many I had in my inventory when I read that there are 10 to loot from the lake of rot, I fast travelled straight there dressed up like a mushroom and started running around looking for them and casting flame cleanse me as I went. There were none there I looted them first time around but didn't notice.

To everyone speculating that they will add a way to buy these, you are not paying attention. They will not do this because these apply rot. Similarly to how you can only craft a limited number of rotbone bolts/arrows due to there only being a certain number of Aeonian butterflies in the game.

Most of these comments are nothing more than speculation. None of it concrete. There's always been limited available items in souls games. This isn't anything new, and it's unlikely they just decided to leave in unfinished portions of the game.

I bet crepus is introduced in dlc and sells infinite of these

My guess is there were plans at some point to put Crepus in at some point as an invader if not a NPC/ Merchant. On top of all the item descriptions mentioning him, this being the only ammo in limited supply gives me the feeling they couldn't decide how to implement him/cut for time, but shoved all his stuff in the game anyways because those were the parts they had completed.

I hope an merchant will sell them or just having those bolt as craftable in a dlc
Applying Scarlet Rot seems kinda... arbitrary for these. As far as I can tell Crepus was a Confessor working for the Roundtable Hold and the Two Fingers, but that's pretty far from Malenia and her Rot. Especially with that gnarly tip, it feels like it was intended to be a Bleed bolt but plans just... changed? For some reason? Who knows.

There's some more bolts at the Lake of Rot to the right side from the grace adding up to a total of 90 bolts per playthrough.

...uhh, doesn't the merchant at the Mohwgwyn Palace sell those? Dafuq?

Not noticeably better than rotbone bolts, but I wish I could farm these somewhere, just cause they look so good with the black-key crossbow
- Anonymous
its so stupid they don't let u but all things u need for pvp after u beating the game and u need to spend hours and hours (if u want to be a bit honest and not dupe) on pve to get items.

Do these do more damage or cause more rot build up with crepus’ crossbow? The description kinda implies that, but it does not outright state that like other special bow & arrow combos…

I feel like the seller of these doesn’t have a finished questline yet, as having only 60 or 90 in the whole game is kinda stupid.
I hope these are something patches will sell once they finish up his and tanith’s questline. Cuz that is clearly unfinished as of 1.03…

I am still on my first playthrough and I have 90 black-key bolts. Not sure where I picked up the other 30 not listed here though

60 shots in the entire game is pretty ridiculous. That is one thing I don't like about the souls game is you end up NEVER using your rare items and finish the game without enjoying them

Where do you buy these: so if you get the infinite use consumable item, the red badge lookin thing from the white masked man's questline (the npc you meet right at the start in the overworld, feel free to look up their questline if you dont care to be spoiled) you can use it to teleport to a LATE game zone. This zone hits really hard early on but if you absolutely want to buy these bolts, then just sprint and dodge and bob and weave like a madman up the cliff path and go in to the temple at the top, from there you will be ambushed by an enemy who teleports in, but if you run past them and take a left at the fork in the tunnel you'll find the wondering merchant who sells these bolts sitting there chilling. Just be prepared to buy them bolts quick if the ambushing enemy remains aggro's after you run past.

I'm pretty sure I found 20 more in the Lake of Rot. Can't remember the exact location tho(

You can craft rotbone bolts with the right cookbook, it's just 5 less rot buildup

This could only be useful for PVP, for about 100 lv red phantom it needs about 4 shots to inflict scarlet. It is impractical to get larger enemies (such as dragons) into scarlet rot with this, and for PVE it deals much less raw dmg than regular bolts that has unlimited access from merchants.

Well you can buy a bunch of other special bolts and arrows, would seem strange for this one to be totally limited. Havent given up hope of finding a merchent, after all how many people are really eager to explore the nooks and crannies of the largest poison swamp in soulsborn history?

Well I got to craft the Rotbone bolt
I assume it's the craftable version of these
Got the book on the Rot lake

you can get additional ones by defeating Rileigh the Idle. You get to meet her along the Volcanic Manor questline with Tanith. She's the second target (at least was for me). You have to read the Volcanic Manor letters though

I hope we'll get a vendor for these at some point.
