The damage is decent but the weapon is utterly boring, and makes the whole game pretty boring, really
- Anonymous
Only in Elden Ring do you get people saying a weapon is the best because it takes the least skill to use.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
It may be powerful, but I refuse to use it, just because it's one of the ugliest, horrendous, gross, repulsive weapons. Fashion > Function.
- Anonymous
I REALLY want to like this thing but ****, this ash is so brain melting. You solve all your problems in PvE by just hitting L2. it genuinely makes this game so... boring. It just does too much bros. I know I'm gonna get downvoted to hell for this because this weapon has a cult following but still. It heals you if anything dies in your vicinity whether or not you're the one who killed it. The ash heals on hit, has deceptively long range, does hella stance damage, and since it scales off of purely faith, you're incentivized to pump faith, which gives you access to stupid amounts of buff spells that crank it up even harder. You're encouraged to hit L2 at all times to solve your problems and because of that you just forget how to play properly. This weapon is a hard drug bros. You don't need another hit. Abandon familee, return to honest Claymore.

Wish this existed in real life so I can go to sleep with its squishy tendrils caressing my face

Faith users will call magic ez mode then proceed to use this

This weapon is broken and you didn't beat the game if you mained it. I'm tired of all the "if it's in the game it's okay to use it" excuses. People who say that lack brainpower to understand that some things are unintentionally stupid, and the devs didn't nerf it into the ground because it was established as one of Kevin's trusted weapons, up there with BF, Mohg's spear, Sacred Relic Sword etc. At least they had balls to nerf Thorns spells and Rolling Sparks before it was too late.
- Anonymous
That's it! I'm getting me blasphemous blade!
-Me, after trying like 5 regular weapons
- Anonymous
Is there any weapon, consumable, AoW, or ranged attack that I'm allowed to use that means I still beat the game?I think it's something like SoNaF, Moonveil, BB, BH Fang, 2xTwinblades, All Katanas, All sorceries, All incantations, Every ranged AoW (especially AoEs), All status effect builds, Bows (especially with poison arrows). Throwing pots (which you start the game with), Poison Knives probably?, using Holy vs Undead, using Fire vs Trees, using Strike or Piercing when appropriate. Get good guys. You should only be playing SL1 with a Broadsword naked until your eyes bleed, and you better be doing it with a laptop touch pad and have a broken D key so you can only strafe to the left, otherwise you're f'kin garbage bro.

You can nuke just about anything with this weapon. I personally don't like using it, but the damage potential is BONKERS. Fromsoftware, don't nerf this weapon. It's fine as it is :)
- Anonymous
I'm gonna say it, I wish I could clean the snakes and the lifesteal effects for a magma puddle trail. Don't care if it'd make the sword worse overall.
- Anonymous
You don't often see this during invasions, but I've been testing it out with 22STR, 18 DEX, 40 FTH. I'm running Shard of Alexander, Talisman of the Dread, and the Fire Shrouding Cracked Tear. I usually start off with a golden vow, and more often than not, you will 1 shot people with Taker's Flame. Honestly been having tons of fun with this thing! Tip: people can easily evade the AoW by rolling to the side. You need to free-aim and point it to where they're going to roll to catch them.

Far too many people complain about this weapon, yes it's strong with the right set up but so are many weapons. It's honestly not that strong in pvp very easy to avoid. And honestly I think Messmers spear the sword lance and the dark moon great sword are all better any, and not to mention how much better wing stance milady, SNF and moonveil all slap harder since the rellana cameo buff

Its kinda overrated because when i use it at +9 its not that great but maybe just my build.
- Anonymous
Well this is probably the last absolutely OP thing left in the game. Let's see how quickly FS will fix it
- Anonymous
Instead of nerfing this weapon, they should buff Rykard. He is one of the easiest remembrance bosses and takes like 2 minutes to kill with serpent hunter.
- Anonymous
Slaughtered Consort Rahdan with this thing last night. Yeah it's the best weapon in the game.
- Anonymous
I think people need to get over themselves yes the weapon is op a d it makes certain bosses easier but why do you care. If you dont like it use something else, if you like it use it. You paid for this game use whatever you like
- Anonymous
The hallmark sign of a bad player. Once upon a time it was RoB, then moonveil, then bloodhound fang, but this now takes the cake. Nerf it from.

Blasphemous blade + Godskin stitcher or Queelign’s greatsword with giant hunt puts the game in easy mode for most situations.
my main PvE build is a glass cannon one based around this: dual Blasphemous Blades+10 ; full Rakshasa Set ; Two-Handed Sword Talisman ; Talisman of the Dread ; Claw Talisman ; Shard of Alexander

I don't feel bad about using this against Melania. She spams waterfowl dance and uses it to regen HP. Yeah, well, two can play at that game

So what class is optimal for making a damagemaxxing flamecel at level 125? Assuming I want 80 faith, 60 vigor, minimum str/dex/mind?

this weapon is a miracle, i defeated Alecto, Black Knife Ringleader first try thanks to it and i still had 10 flasks left by the end.

Imagine if we could alter weapons and get that sword underneath all that gunk. Don't get me wrong the flesh sword is cool, but It kinda doesnt go with any armors in the game apart from a couple, which is half the reason I rarely use this.

Everyone says this sword died after the nerf… i could give a rat’s ass about the knockdown… they didn’t nerf the damage at ALL. THEN they added a talisman that BOOST ITS DAMAGE? Yeah. This sword didn’t die. It got stronger. Can’t say the same for envoys long horn..
RIP Doot horn. You will be missed. 2022-2024

Blasphemous blade users use a attack that isn’t L2 or power stance jumping attack: impossible
- Anonymous
If you're staying at or below level 138, and want to get the most out of taker's flames, note that Prophet is the optimized starting class for reaching 80 faith. Also note that Prophet's Mind stat is 14, which starts you with 91 FP, enough for 3 uses of taker's flame with only 1 FP wasted, or 4 uses with the Filigreed Crest and 0 FP wasted... Do you need more FP than that? I haven't. Who needs crimson flasks? Not me.
- Anonymous
they didn't nerf the damage output, i swear every one of you people cant read
- Anonymous
Disgusting paired with Golden Flame Grant Me Seppuku and proper talismans.
- Anonymous
No wonder they nerfed it, imagine this at full power with the talisman of the dread/
- Anonymous
they nerfed the sword before the DLC only to add more buffs to make it stronger in the same DLC
- Anonymous
It's way overturned. It had some competition before but with DLC you've got an extra talisman to boost ash by 15% and oil tear to decrease fire defence
On top of it they have added rakshasa set and bloodsucking tear. And risk they introduce is completely mitigated by self healing. Yes you loose access to ritual sword but you can just wear some other useful talisman. So already an overpowered sword got extra +20% +8% +15% buffs.
And then it also has one of the highest ARs on build with access to all buffs and self healing for kills.
But yes let's nerf DGMS and thorns to the ground. And dex is still somewhere at the bottom
- Anonymous
Fromsoft nerfs BB
Fromsoft 2days later adding talesman of dredd and bloodsucking cracked tear
Good job Miyazaki
- Anonymous
It has been my go-to simply for the fact it does more all-round damage compared to running bleed build on another sword. The only gripe is it's still an elemental sword which deals fire damage so...
- Anonymous
When you want something to kill Malenia with but you also want to beat the cheese allegations
- Anonymous
Why do people keep saying that this is a strength-faith weapon? This weapon has the same scaling values in strength and dex. If you check a build calculator you can see that, even two handed, it gets more damage on a quality-faith build tan on a strenght-faith build because of soft caps. (If you don't believe me or agree with me then you can chech a build planner before disliking.)

Everytime someone tells you the game is easy, just ask them if they used this weapon and spammed L2.

Still my go to exploration sword. Still hits as hard as practically anything in the game, and heals on kill. Works well with Dread Talisman, Shard of Alexander, Spirit Horn, and Taker's Cameo. Pair it with Sacrificial Axe or Serpent-God's Curved Sword and never have to heal or run out of FP or worry about running out of flasks... has been a life saver in DLC content where Graces can be few and far between. Very useful in Hero Graves and dungeons that go on forever! Its not the solution for every situation but still good enough that it can get you by...

Only blade that makes me put away my great stars for a while. Most fun I’ve had a souls game period.

When I play elden ring I kinda pretend to be a knight of a faction. And it sucks that some of players judge me because of the sword I use that's why the nerf is welcome to me.

>Be FromSoftware
>Notice the some souls players treat people who use items that make the game easier like they commited some sort of unforgivable sin
>Be developing Elden Ring
>Put a sword in the game which shoots a fire projectile which deals heavy damage from long range and heals the player when the projectile deals damage
>Call it the Blasphemous Blade
This right here is peak FromSoftware writing.

the hp regen from hitting and killing is still pretty useful and it's a ranged attack too, i mostly used katanas on the base game but i switched to this and another gs with giant hunt for the dlc
- Anonymous
This weapon is so good it actually makes the game kind of boring lol. It is not only the best weapon in the game for faith, it is better than pretty much all of your incantations too... Seriously there is hardly ever a reason to use anything other than this weapon, which kinda stinks.
I mean why would I ever use anything else like giants flame? I can just use this which is also great at both single target and aoe, has a more predictable range and motion, and heals me so I can allocate more to my blue flasks because I'm always topped off, AND it's a formidable melee weapon on top of that.
I'm at 70 faith/22 str/20 dex, not overleveled, purposely staying 150 for pvp. Most DLC bosses are 3-6 weapon arts and then dead, any buffs you use like cracked tear, golden vow, howl, or the flame buff will melt bosses even faster. Some of the mini dungeon bosses I have killed with 2 hits, like the chief bloodfiend. It is absurd. I try to use other stuff just to mix it up and I have all these weapons and incantations that are just ... sitting there... but it feels like I am artificially handicapping myself whenever I don't use BB, which kind of takes away from the satisfaction of beating a built-in challenging game. I always know in the back of my head if I am having trouble with something I can just spam L2 with BB.
I actually cherish the moments when I go into a location and everything is fire-resistant, it means I can use other stuff
I try to not use it, but it feels like I am artificially handicapping myself, which sort of takes away from the satisfaction of overcoming a real built-in challenge to the game when I always know "I could just use bb and kill this boss in 3-5 weapon arts"

This weapon = Rykard
Rykard + Sword of Milos
= Ricardo Milos
DEFINITELY WORTHY A TRY!

when I see people using this weapon to pve, you really want ez mode that bad you want a range skill that heal you. how bad you have to be in souls game to want 10k damage while healing 10% for casting a brain dead larva wave. only down side about this is that it wouldn't hit airborne enemy
So i've been looking at stuffs to use on a magma / Gelmir build and this sword is obviously on it, but when i was looking for infos on different buffs for it (notably the Talisman of the Dread) i found out that some people think the AoW ONLY does physical damages. Bros, at which point during the whole two and a half years have you seen huge ass fire attacks from ennemies and even in PvP and told yourself "nah man, i'll just eat a crab stick to tank it". Like, Taker's Flame makes a freaking huge flame trail on the ground but smh it would be "physical" damages ? Man, i swear most elden ring players share the same 3 brain cells. Anyway, i'll see y'all later i have to go fight the PHYSICAL GIANT before PHYSICALLY burning the erdtree. Istg

This weapon has seen a massive falling off in the dlc. Factors such as high fire resistance on bosses, and the general power level of the new weapons means there's very little reason to be clinging for life to this L2 stick just so you can summon for other players to carry you in co-op.
- Anonymous
only weapon I ever discarded, never even sold it for runes.

perfect off-hand for every build, great for keeping ritual sword (10% dmg at full hp) and shield (30% dmg negation at full hp) talismans active
- Anonymous
What equipement looks the best with this ? I just got it but it doesn't rly go with my outfit :)
- Anonymous
I feel like this nerf was fair. The knockdown was probably a bit much tbh. Still an incredible weapons. RL 150, 45/45 Str/fth, and currently using this, two-hand talisman, talisman of the dread, fire scorpion charm, and shard of Alexander and full rakshasa armor set. Weapon can hit for like 7k on Messmer soldiers, regular R1 averages around 1900 on most trash mobs I have tested it on. With all the negation nuking equipment my ass falls in like 4-5 hits but it is usually not a problem. In PvP I’ll probably get shredded but I mostly do PvE stuff with friends.
My point is that this is still extremely viable, but folks are acting like it has been nerfed into the center of the earth. It just doesn’t make every other option look like ass anymore.

still OP, but it's just weird to nerf this weapon now, 2 years after the game was released.
- Anonymous
Still an incredible weapon. Still melts the big red health bar at the bottom of your screen.
- Anonymous
Lmao why they dont buff the others shiity boss weapons instead of nerf them?
- Anonymous
This weapon combines efficiency, versatility and aesthetics.
- Anonymous
I'm so confused. I updated the game to test the weapon art and was still able to knock enemies down. Tested against Albanurics, Cleanrot Knights, and an NPC invader. Am I missing something?
- Anonymous
They nerfed it then added talisman of the dread in the dlc. So now its ability hits for 8K+ at shard 20
- Anonymous
Eh it got nerfed, but im pretty sure the fp regen talismen makes it fsr stronger.
- Anonymous
Still good, people act like it got nerfed into oblivion, but it went from being completely overpowered to being a solid and viable weapon. You can still wreck enemies even if they removed the lockdown and hyper armor.... Just requires a bit more timing and positioning (skill)
- Anonymous
I love feeding on casual tears after nerf patches goes live, come on skeletons bring more of them I am trying to fill my well!
- Anonymous
it has no knock-down now but it for sure has a stagger effect, i just cant quite tell how strong the stagger is. the damage is also still obscene. so over-all it still seems fantastic, dont worry if youre a fan coming back to the game and plan to use this! viable and fun
- Anonymous
nerf it as much as you want fromsoft
but i will never abandon my FAMILYYYY
- Anonymous
Despite being nerfed, I'm still finding the blade to wreck things just fine. Still potentially the best weapon of the base game. It's been slaughtering things in the dlc so far.

- Anonymous
As someone who loves this weapon and used is to beat the game first playthrough, I am actually glad that it got nerfed. It was busted at first, you can easily stun lock enemies and just heal indefinitely until you ran out of magic juice. Even though it was pretty garbage in PvP, I still think the nerf was overall good. Since it was broken in PvE, and it’s not good game balance if one weapon straight up outclassed 99% of all the weapons in the game. And it’s still a very powerful weapon, and still can be used to make bosses a joke, you just now need to actually work to succeed rather then L2 everything away.
- Anonymous
So much salt here lmao. I guess this just proves that the devs agree with us so called "elitists" ie git gud and actually engage with the games mechanics instead of cheesing everything to get cheap wins.
Time to actually start playing the game fellas or you can just cope and seethe and whine like cry babies in the comments it won't change anything the devs have spoken deal with it.
- Anonymous
it's neutered now. Malenia doesn't get knockdown anymore and she just side steps the skill most of the time. I swapped to Charge Forth (ROFL) and nuked her in a few minutes at lv 125.
- Anonymous
froso following their usual pattern of "just nerf everything we hate the players"
- Anonymous
I understand nerfimh things in pvp but why ruin fin weapons for pve seriously fromsoft never learns they're just anti fun wish I never bought the dlc now.
- Anonymous
Ok so I just tested the new change about the Taker's Flame on the Cleanrot Knight before the Praying Room Grace. While the knockdown effect is gone, it still has the "Stagger"(?) effect and still does good amount of damage with 45 Faith at Base NG. It's still a solid weapon, just not as OP as before.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Alright alright, let me take notes of things I shouldn't use, because lil' Jonathan from Xique Xique - Bahia, Brazil thinks it's too OP: Spells (of any kind), buffs (they make everything too easy), Ashes of War (too versatile), fast weapons (either Str or Dex weapons), boss weapons (this one in particular), shields (playing defensively is for casuals), bows (just get to melee range), long weapons (just get closer), certain armor sets (mostly the ones over 60 Poise), Talismans (excluding Daedicar's Woe and Green Turtle), levels into Dex (too fast) Int (too spammy) Faith (too versatile) and Arcane (too many statuses), and basically most Somber weapons.
