Enchants right-hand armament with bloodflame
![]() |
Bloodflame Blade is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Bloodflame Blade spell enhances your weapon with festering bloodflame. After dealing damage, weapons imbued with bloodflame apply a debuff to their enemy that continues to build up onset of Hemorrhage for a very short time.
A Blood Oath incantation, granted by the Lord of Blood.
Engulfs armament held in the right hand with bloodflame.
This incantation can be cast while in motion.
After dealing damage, bloodflame continues to build up onset of blood loss for a very short time.
Where to find Bloodflame Blade

Bloodflame Blade Guide
- Blood Incantation
- Buffs weapon with Fire attack power.
- Stamina Cost: 10
- Duration: 60 seconds
- Fire damage: 0.40 * Faith based Incantation scaling.
- While Bloodflame Blade can grant the Hemorrhage status effect to any weapon it is applied to, it is most effective on (buffable) weapons that already have the effect, such as the Uchigatana.
- Afflicts the target with a bloodflame debuff effect that stacks a total of 40 bleed over the course of 2 seconds after striking an enemy.
- The bloodflame debuff can stack by striking an enemy repeatedly or applying the same debuff from other sources. Does not scale with Arcane even when wearing the Dragon Communion Seal.
- As it is fire damage, it is buffed by the Fire Scorpion Charm and Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear and will set the Hand and Giant Hand enemies on fire rendering them incapacitated while dealing tons of damage to them.
- Although it can be used on a weapon that already has passive Hemorrhage effects (as noted above), it can't be used on weapons that have an innate or applied elemental infusion.
- Anonymous
can be applied to a weapon with goat roll ash to make the rolling inflict a small amount of bleed
- Anonymous
Says you can't use it on weapons with innate elemental infusions but trolls hammer takes the buff as does the treespear

I'm running a dex build right now with no intention of levelling faith besides the minimum. Is there any reason to level up my seal to apply only this one incantation?
- Anonymous
On a dex/arc build, this buff is just illegally, strong, so much more than Seppuku or the Blood Grease (which I carry just in case I run out of FPs).
Bloodflame Blade will build bleed so freaking fast, especially if you powerstance an offhand weapon that has the Blood infusion.
The fact that it keeps building up bleed for a few instants after a successful hit is just the icing on the cake, making scoring Blood Losses much easier.
Seppuku is for full Arcane build with Occult/Blood infusions.
- Anonymous
Why does blackflame blade last a fraction of what bloodflame blade does?
Consider using this on a Troll's Hammer. It's a colossal hammer with innate fire damage that's also buffable, but has an unchangeable AoW.

This buff is looking better since the dual wield status nerf. If you don't want to go for blood or occult affinities on a weapon with natural bleed, one weapon buffed with this will do better buildup than dual-wielded weapons without it. Of course, you can still do both, but 1.07 did a good job making a single weapon in two hands compete with dual wielding. For example, two heavy great stars do 71.5 bleed with an L1 attack now, but one great stars with bloodflame blade does 95. If you use BFB on your right hand weapon, the L1 attack only beats an R1 or R2 by 16.5, while attacking more slowly (and both weapons hitting on the L1 isn't guaranteed). It's still a somewhat tight niche, as perhaps most who want to rapidly hemorrhage enemies will prefer blood/occult weapons, but BFB offers some extra tricks to make it worthwhile.

I have 50str 50dex 14faith 10 arc I tested with the finger and clawmark seal, finger had 138 inc scaling and claw had 203 inc scaling. Finger seal gave me 10-20 more ar. Btw both seals were at +25

Aside from the comical fires deadly sin combo (which you can just run from) & some obscure ash & weapon combinations, this is ALWAYS worse than just running a bleed or occult infusion. In pvp that is. In Pve its incredible. Put it on a bleed stick, stack hit talismans & use spinning weapon or whatever it's called. Very nice.
Despite this its still in need of a buff. It should scale with arcane when put on arcane scaling weapons (the ripple stuff & a certain mace) giving some relevance to an otherwise niche playstyle.

If you put AoW Poison Mist or Frost Mist on Great Stars, the mist cloud gives you health for each enemy inside the cloud. Can you Set Poison / Frost mist AoW to Heavy affinity, and buff it up with Bloodflame Blade, will the poison / frost mist also inflict the Bloodflame Blade debuff along side the life steal / healing?
- Anonymous
Put this on Bloodhound's Fang (Greatsword) and it stacks bleeds so damn fast enemies are scared to fight you. They both stack passive bleeding, while this buff stacks fire damage. Spirits and plant based hate this weapon.
- Anonymous
people say using seppuku is better but using seppuku takes your entire weapon art utility away, with bloodflame blade you can buff your weapon and still have the ash of war of your choice.
- Anonymous
After some testing, it seems that weapon arts with lingering damage (such as the lava from eruption) can build stacks of bleed
- Anonymous
"guys its just tech, its not an exploit they would have patched it already if it was"
- Anonymous
I don't see the point of innate bleed on great-stars in the first place. It kills any enemy I use it on long before it can proc the status effect so I stopped casting this on it and switched to electrify armament.
- Anonymous
This incantation seems to build up the bleed bar over time, kind of like how the black flame incantations do damage over time (not indefinitely). When I used it against an NPC invader, I sometimes would get a bleed proc about one half second after the hit landed.

The wiki page for Hoarah Loux's earthshaker that has the video clip of it being used says it "triggers bloodflame blade's bleed debuff effect" can anyone explain exactly what that means and how it works? I thought it would be similar to FDS but so far I haven't been able to trigger the effect on the dragons near fort faroth, with bloodflame blade cast on a vulgar militia saw I didn't see the damage burst I'd expect from an enemy that had been successfully bled out, HLE does actually kill the dragons when its cast repeatedly near them but it looks to me like the value of it is breaking the dragons stance in one cast and its follow up then doing the really big damage while its vulnerable. So I'm either doing something wrong or the AoW wasn't intended to do that and has been patched since the page was last updated.

Combined this w/ Fire's Deadly Sin, Spiked Caestus and BHS for my 8th gate Might Guy cosplay.. \m/
- Anonymous
Shines the best when used with the lighter bleed weapons i.e. Nagakiba or lighter. Heavier bleed weapons (Flamberge and up) can still work fine sure but are a little slow to get the max benefit out of this spell since the bleed effect stacks w/ successive attacks. Twinblades are really the only non-bleed weapons you can *sort of* get by using this with for their fast multi-hit two-handed attack chains.
OR
You can just throw on Fire's Deadly Sin and then slap it on whatever tf you want 'cause then it won't even matter LOL
- Anonymous
Too bad it can't be used on a weapon with innate infusion, would use it on Eleo's Twins otherwise.
- Anonymous
Really good with claws, solo'd radahn with +8 raptor talons. Its more appealing than blood infusion for claws, since bleed is not that great for them. Also, the bleed buildup instead of straight up bleed is really good in practice as even with my relentless playstyle, there were always some downtime to regain stamina, and this mf makes sure i don't lose any buildup in that time. 9/10 only weakness is bleed immune enemies
- Anonymous
This on an Occult Uchigatana + Fire's Deadly Sin + the BHS or Blood Tax AoW + Lord of Blood's Exultation turns this game into literal easy mode for a high Arcane build. Especially now that RoB got its (much needed) nerf.
Let the blood, tears and salt flow.
- Anonymous
Is this still worth using at base requirements? Or is stat investment required for it to be worth it alongside Strengthen Me, O Flame and Golden Vow?
- Anonymous
if putting bleed on the ash of war is faster and stronger, why does anyone use buffs? not like they appreciate showmanship in pvp....
- Anonymous
Does arcane affect the bleed build up value or it has absolutely no effect whether you use this spell with 20 or 60 arcane?
- Anonymous
Excuse my lack of intelligence
Let's say I have a Buffable Weapon, specifically, the Great Stars (which I can now have two of, thx 1.06)
If I give it Bleed Infusion, I believe it makes it unbuffable, as would giving a Poison Infusion. But if I gave it an Occult infusion, does that make it unbuffable?
- Anonymous
Best incantation, sharing it's place Ekzykes's Decay, Erdtree Heal and Swarm of Flies.
- Anonymous
This absolutely shreds in pvp with golden land and incantations with good tracking spam like elden stars, pest threads, swarm and dragon breathes.
Have a good defense build and you will out trade even bleed burst
- Anonymous
For a neat combo trick, apply this to a weapon then cast Fire's Deadly Sin. So long as your equipped weapon has bloodflame active on it, the AOE fire bubble surrounding you will also apply bleed to enemies. For some good fun, get all the enemies at Gatefront to attack you while this is active while you hold up a great shield.
I have tested this on weapons with and without innate bleed, and have observed no difference in the fire aura's bleed buildup.
- Anonymous
When I did something like this I found it was worth it to use an uchigatana in the secondary as well but equip it with flame of the redmanes because the stagger is unmatched. Because your biggest defense is dodging it allows you more defensive options in a lot of fights.
- Anonymous
Prelates charge will still apply the bleed even in patch 1.05. I tested this on July 31st with all updates on PS4 using a Heavy Great Stars.
- Anonymous
I'm running pure STR build with Flamberge, which has innate bleed. Is this thing worth using over blood grease while only meeting minimal requirements?
- Anonymous
Irrelevant for bleed builds due to Occult Seppuku. Fire damage is negligible at best.
Cool spell, but outclassed by nearly everything.
- Anonymous
It's just a shame you also can't apply this on staff's. I had a very specific int/faith build in mind using the Staff of the guilty. Blood flame blade+plus spinning weapon is a pretty good option, I used it on the Nightriders Flail as my secondary weapon for my Pyromancer build and it would proc bleed just about every time you used the skill.
Maybe not as OP as everyone else's favorite options but it gets the job done. And would be nice for when something gets in your face when all you have equiped is a staff and a seal.
- Anonymous
Any other ashes/weapons that are op with this other than eruption?
- Anonymous
Yeah lets have it not have additional scaling with arcane or any other secondary incant scaling stat that TOTALLY makes sense. Seriously. Its a blood incantation, it should have arcane in the scaling formula when used with the Dragon Communion seal.
- Anonymous
If you equip Ruler's Mask and Commoner's Garb it's possible to cast this on a level 1 Wretch without having to use any talisman slots.
- Anonymous
does it work when you apply seppuku and this incantation on a keen uchigatana
- Anonymous
Have a heck of a time trying to get this to cast. It's greyed out for me and I've used a variety of staff's to case and swords/daggers for it to be applied. I'm mostly a glass cannon build but have the min Arcane 10 and Faith 12 to build. When I "memorize" the spell it shows like it could be actively cast but I exit the grace point it's still grayed out in my casting list. Any ideas?
- Anonymous
sad I can't cast it on the left hand weapon with a right hand catalyst

Does bloodflame Blade work with any kind of incantations, e.g. elden Stars or just limited on flame incantations?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Can confirm it still works on offhand shields, so the shield crash combo is still strong.
- Anonymous
Nagakiba+bloodflame blade+double slash= poor mans Rivers of Blood
- Anonymous
By the way, since it add fire damage, you can stack this on a bleed weapon with a powerstanced cold weapon to reset the frost status and proc it again, its quite strong.

I believe the purpose of this is to give faith builds with the tiniest of arcane dips a way to use bleed. The damage scales with faith, and arcane builds have access to infusions that allow for far superior inherent bleed that acts instantly rather than the 40 over time bleed build up from this. It also synergizes well with another faith incantation: flame, grant me strength.
- Anonymous
A deceptively strong, easy-to-use spell that can make quick work of every boss that isn't immune to Bleed. Put it on a weapon that already has innate bleed buildup, like an Uchigatana or Morning Star, and Godfrey's your uncle. — Courh the Explorer

How is the buff calculated when applied to paired weapons like fists and claws? Since the DoT is stackable, does 2-handing paired weapons get a complete buff on each hand?
Can anyone confirm if the most recent patch removed the Pulley Crossbow trick? 1.05 notes say it should no longer apply
- Anonymous
Apparently, people are reporting evidence that this weapon buff also applies to your offhand weapon while it is active in your right, notably even after you swap your offhand seal. This is especially noteworthy as the buff applies to the offhand weapon even if that weapon, or shield, cannot be buffed normally. This is confusing because there is nothing that would visually indicate any this is happening, but it can be confirmed via the offhand weapons damage output. Two-handing your offhand weapon removes the buff, so the buffed righthand weapon needs to be out and active, in order for this buff to apply to your offhand. This probably happens with other buffs too, and requires testing.

So...
*This is a bleed buff that doesn't scale on arcane...
*It also adds fire damage which is only boosted from 40% magic adjust
*it scales off faith
How useful!
To make the most of it I'd need:
*High Dex for innate bleed weapon with Keen infusion (for buffing)
*That weapon which also has Seppuku Ash of War (also have arcane for more bleed?)
*Need to remember it gives next to useless flame damage bonus
*Have faith to optimise damage buff (really tho?)
What a mess.
Keen Uchi with Seppuku Ash of war.
80 Dex and whatever amount of Fai. Use Flame Grant me Strength.
Like, it could be good, but the complexity!

What is the fuking point of having the only arcane based buff strictly avoid scaling with arcane? Fromsoft back at it again with this weird ****, smh
Okay so this page says 40. The incantations page says 35. There's comments below saying 30. The question is how much bleed build up does this actually add?
- Anonymous
Will a ranged skill like flame of the redmanes carry the blood buildup while this is active?
- Anonymous
I swear neither flame grant me strength nor flame-shrouding cracked tear improves its damage.
- Anonymous
Should work with any ash of war that doesn't provide a weapon enchantment, ex sacred blade ash of war. I only tested glintblade phalanx, but I put that AoW on on a plain broadsword, which doesn't have any bleed buildup. Fighting the troll outside of godricks boss door, while buffed with blood flame blade, glintblade phalanx proc'ed bleed in two casts. As a control, I took the same weapon, and it took 7 light attacks to proc bleed, while using this incantation. It seems, if you put an ash of war that has many attacks or projectiles, you'll get much more milage out of this spell.
For whatever reason, this doesn't work on the Staff of the Guilty, and that's a little sad.

I like putting this on my Keen Rotten Greataxe with Prelates charge equipped as well! Does Rot & Bleed & fire damage (also keep lightning buff equipped incase that don’t work) finally a decent bleed weapon that scales with a faith dex build

This incant only does 30 Bleed per hit, so it isn’t that great of a buff. Still, 30 bleed can be a lot on the fast attacking weapons.
Overall for PvE Blackflame Blade is better due to percent health damage up front, but lower up time.
Electrify Armaments is still the best scaling buff spell in the game, so if you have high faith, use it instead.

Does this overwrite seppuku? Say I have an uchi with seppuku on keen affinity, I use seppuku, then cast bloodflame blade? Is this even possible and does it give a stacking effect?
- Anonymous
This buff + pulley crossbow + burred bolts = PvP pain. This buff + pulley crossbow + explosive bolts = Hawkeye from Marvel. You double the stacks of bleed (once for the initial hit and again with the explosion). It probably wasn't meant to act like this but it does. That's 6 bleed stacks if all 3 bolts hit. Add on the Lord of Blood's Exultation tailsman and you've got the ultimate PvP weapon. Just lock on and fire away. Very difficult to dodge all 3 bolts. A shielded player would have an easier time however.

Tested this on Prelate's Charge on the giant land octopi in Liurnia near where you obtain the incantation. With FGMS, you can deal around 5500 damage (the entirety of the the octopuses health bar) in just a couple of seconds. I didn't time it, but I'd wager around 1000 dps without the initial swing/end of the attack animation.

Does It work with seppuku on a natural bleed weapon for example uchigatana but with a dex infusion ?

this + keen double slash uchigatana, i can already understand why RoB is so feared in PvP...

Why can't I use this on my Occult Twinblades? Occult doesn't even add an affinity to the weapon.

This is best for weapons that already have bloodloss to keep the build up from expiring as fast. Like all weapon enchants, the elemental damage it adds isn’t great compared to just changing the ash on a weapon to the affinity you want, or using a unique weapon with high base elemental damage. The whole thing going around about “split damage” hurting your AR isn’t true. Enchants just suck for raw damage output compared to setting an affinity.
Using this with Keen Bloodhound's Claws with Flame, Grant Me Strength.
Very satisfying play-through so far. Seemingly everything in this game is weak to either Bleed or Fire.

- Acquire Prelate's hammer
- Apply Bloodflame to the weapon
- Mow through gankers

Us this with a flamberg. Thinking about only doing mid level pvp with it.

This incantation works with Fire's Deadly Sin the exact way Death build-up used to (tested in 1.04). Cast both incants on yourself and you will apply bloodflame to everything around you every tick. It sucks and it's terrible (at least compared to the death one-shots FDS used to do) but it's worth noting that From have the most low-effort approach to patching exploits that you can imagine. Well, enjoy!
- Anonymous
Just tried this at 38 faith on some colossal weapons. It turns out the only one that dealt significantly more damage was the one that already had innate fire damage. With any other weapons, the AR in the menu significantly went up, but the actual damage when I attacked was negligible.
That said, it does proc bleed with Prelate's Charge, so it's not entirely useless if that's what you're going for. Just remember if it seems like the buff is garbage, it's because the weapon lacks fire damage to begin with.
- Anonymous
I am trying to figure this out on my own, and I am failing. I have a Strength Faith Build. (35 Str, 21 Faith) currently. Using Great Stars with Flame of the Redmanes. If I put Heavy Affinity on it, I can buff it with Bloodflame for extra bleed proc and Fire Damage. Or can put Fire Affinity on it for extra fire damage, but then I cannot use Bloodflame on it. Ignoring the extra bleed proc, do I get more damage from Bloodflame/Heavy, or Fire Affinity? Offhanding a Beastclaw Seal.
- Anonymous
combine with Fire's Deadly sin get AOE bleed proc , Is it a glitch or feature ?
if it as intend I will use this combo in low SL PVP
- Anonymous
Might as well treat it like a flat bleed buff rather than a badly scaling fire buff if you're not running high faith.
And if you're doing high arcane, you've got better sources of bleed, like occult sudoku katana.

why do people hate this incantation so much. it is really good on katanas that it can buff and cuts down on the amount of hits you need to bleed by the same amount as drawstring blood grease on blood abernacks (i just tested it 2 hits on both) and adds some fire damage as well. they also compare it to Seppuku despite needing to get thru most of the game to get seppuku when you can get this before any boss. i know its scaling is bad but thats not the point. its a great incantation for pure dex/str builds that can spare some levels for fai/arc so they can bleed better. (side note using this on a no bleed regular dagger it takes 6 hits to bleed normal enemys. the same as drawstring blood grease however early game enemys die too fast to bleed using either)

Cast this with Clawmark Seal and use Heavy infused Great Stars with Prelate's Charge. Sheeeeeesh. Talk about mowing the gr-ass. Stunlock, bleed, burn, heal, and damage. What more could you want?
- Anonymous
There is like one weapon in the entire game with an innate bloodloss proc that you can use for a pure faith build unless you dump a decent amount of points into dex or str. Even with the op helm equipped and the talisman with 60 faith this buff only brought it up to 370 as compared to 577 when sacred. Even with split stats my sacred scimitar did like 200 more damage against opponents with a single hit. The bleed proc is by no means as quick as anything else with a higher bleed and seppuku for that matter. This is a toss away ability honestly unless you're like level 250
- Anonymous
For a fire build is this worth only leveling faith to do fire damage and not really worry about bleed or is it too weak to do that?
- Anonymous
This scales off Faith because it is the Fire weapon buff. There is no pure fire weapon buff, just this. To all those wishing it scaled with Arcane for your blood build, you have other options to buff - Seppuku, etc.
- Anonymous
Would it be better to just use a blood infused Nagakiba with Seppuku or a standard, keen or heavy Nagakiba with bloodflame blade. I also have a dragon communion seal at +7 currently if that helps.
