- Some jumping attacks of the Bloodhound's Fang have a higher motion value compared to the rest of its class. 1h Jumping R1, 1h Jumping R2, 2h Jumping R1 and 2h Jumping R2 are all affected.
- The motion values of the Bloodhound's Fang are 118, 142, 128 and 151 respectively, compared to the regular Curved Greatsword motion values of 107, 127, 112 and 132.
- Motion value is a term that is, as far as I've been able to find, borrowed from the Monster Hunter series. A motion value is a multiplier to the various properties of attacks represented as a percentage (100 = 100%).
If the motion value for an attack is listed as ""X + X"" this is done to separate individual attacks made from one input. The same applies if there is multiplication, done to save space if there are, say, 6 attacks in a row using the same motion value. Combining values from multiple hits will give you misleading comparison values for anything relating to health damage due to the way that is calculated in Fromsoftware's games. Alternatively may be referred to as an "atkCorrection"

Almost anyone who invades me while using this literally only use the ash of war on it
I would try to parry them if latency didn't make parrying almost impossible
- Anonymous
did a run with 2 of these (muled one across from another character) and it was one of the most fun and op physical dmg PvE builds I've tried in this game. I got both of them to +9 and +10 asap, used the claw talisman, the extra poise damage crystal tear and just jump R1 everything to death, so much fun, bullsh*t and kinda op, but fun

2H gets something around 840 AR with 40 STR and 60 DEX at +10. 55 innate bleed plus buffable, great with bloodflame blade or just regular blood grease. Weapon skill hits like a truck, breaks stance easy and is fun as hell. Obtainable in Limgrave from a fairly easy boss with a potential summon to make it even easier. Being a curved greatsword, it holds its own in PvP. The second part of the weapon skill is however very punishable but not too difficult to land with the right opportunity.
This sword sits at the top of A tier imo and I wouldn't argue against S either.
My main character (level 320)has over 80 in Str/Dex, so the damage scaling of this weapon at +10 is just ridiculous and I love it.

Using this weapon makes me feel like a abyss watcher from DS3 again

I need lore and technical explanation as to why this can be coated?

Bloodhound Claws: AoW and Infusable. Flamberge: AoW and Infusable. Morning Star: AoW and Infusable. Bloodhounds Fang: NOPE. This game can't even follow it's own rules. It's like they came up with this rule after making 20% of weapons. I mean it has a unique weapon art, but it's still dumb.

got a +9BHF before godrick. then upgraded to +10 at limgrave. theres no reason to use anything else. typical fromsoft balance

to anyone I know who wants to get into elden ring but has never played a souls game I'll always recommend this weapon, it's fantastic in every way and can be gotten at the very beginning of the game with a summon to help too
- Anonymous
This thing steamrolled everything up to the capital and I don’t think it’s going to stop
- Anonymous
This is actually a very solid candidate for an NG+ run considering it scales well all the way until 80 Dex, and gets its last 3 AR per level for Strength at 54 (when two-handed). Gets a ridiculous 911 AR at these stats, making it one of the best quality weapons in the game considering, even before considering it can be buffed and also has innate bleed buildup. Bonkers weapon for new players and souls veterans alike.
- Anonymous
Best weapon in the game for me personally. The ash of war is very powerful if timed properly. Killed Malenia 1v1 with this weapon.
Does anyone else feel like this does so much damage that they are handicapping themselves by using any other Curved Greatsword? I'm getting 786 AR when 2-handed with 36 Strength and 54 Dexterity, which is leagues ahead of an optimized Morgott's which caps out at ~650 at similar stat investment levels. And this thing also has innate Bleed and can still be buffed, meaning you can slap Bloodflame Blade on this to get MORE Bleed than Morgott's without any of the required Arcane investment beyond 12. The only thing Morgott's has over this is range and the AoW, but it's not like Bloodhound's is short or has a bad AoW.
I like to buff this with Bloodflame Blade, looks swag as hell and gives it more Bleed for a total of 95 per swing. Alongside that, I have an offhand Blood Misericorde with Parry for the moments where I know I just need a little extra Bleed and the Bloodhound's Fang would be too slow to connect before my opponent can eat a bolus.

✓ Good AR
✓ Above average range for a CGS
✓ Innate bleed build-up
✓ Buffable
✓ Higher jumping attack damage
✓ Sleek and effective skill
And for NG runs:
✓ Acquired very early
✓ Upgraded with Somber Smithing Stones, which makes it easier to upgrade earlier
Does it even have flaws?

Anyone try black flame blade on this for Radagon and/or Elden Beast? Since they don't bleed, it seems like black flame may be the better way to go.
- Anonymous
Has anyone tried black flame blade on Radagon / Elden Beast? Since they don't bleed, I was wondering if black flame's DoT effect might be a better choice than blood flame blade.

PSA: the special jump attack MVs don't apply while powerstancing, not even if you have two Fangs.
- Anonymous
Started a new build with the this as my main weapon, it's quite strong. Started as a vagabond so I can wield it the moment I get radagons soreseal, did blaidds quest to make darriwil an easy fight along with gaining access to the -fp cost for skill talisman, and then got that and upgraded it to plus four with iji. Margit and godrick both got melted, and I doubt rennala will be able to do much against it either. God I love this weapon.

I love playing Elden Ring, but I'm not very good at it. I quit the game twice, but then I discovered this weapon shortly after starting back a third time. I made it my preferred weapon, and it gave me the confidence to finally stick with the game.
- Anonymous
Something I haven't heard covered, it is really good for mounted combat as well (nice reach, keep them to your right). Well, it is a massive sabre. Can take out the midnight cavalry knights early on with this.
- Anonymous
The weapon that helped me beat Margit when I first started. One of the best weapons fr.
- Anonymous
Is this thing and Zamor's GS viable on quality builds focused on strength?
- Anonymous
Easily my favorite weapon in the whole game. And yeah, there are more powerful weapons. But between the high poise damage, high jump attack damage, length, and awesome AOW. It's top tier IMO
- Anonymous
Probably the most overtuned weapon in the game honestly. Highest ar for curved greatswords wiht a skill that does immense damage and also has bleed. That alone would make it one of the best weapons in the game but then it also gets extra damage on jump attacks and can be buffed despite being a somber weapon. I feel like there are a lot of other mediocre weapons that could have been given that as a unique feature to make them viable rather than this.
- Anonymous
I was planning to run a dex/faith build like I do with every Souls game, but then I got my hands on this. A few months later and that faith has gone into the Golden Order seal and some support incantations.

I got this at level 48 and it’s OP use this beast (from the beast)

Black Knight Sword of Elden Ring. Trivializes everything even through endgame.
- Anonymous
Very reminiscent of the Exile Greatsword from DS3. Straightforward weapon with great scaling and a good movelist. Not as flashy as some other options, but it'll do the job well.
- Anonymous
Bloodhounds Fang is the best weapon in the game and it's not close. It makes the game conquerable for anyone with thumbs. Spam the weapons skill. Profit. That's it. That's the extent of the how-to video.
I call it the best because it keeps people from quitting. Bloodhounds Fang is your pocket Superman. Don't be afraid of the game. Any schmo can play and have fun with this weapon. I guarantee it.

I have tryed all the "high damage" 2h weapons with my NG2 playthough. And i must say, yes, something like giant crusher gets more AP. But taking into consideration the consecative hit buffs from talismans and flasks. Golden vow, flame, give me strenght and bloodflame. I like this the most. The damage is on par with the "best damage 2h;s" but this has best maneuvrebility, angle, hitting multiple enemies at the same swing. Not to mention the blood-loss buildup. THis is my favorite weapon, i don't care what "noob weapon" stickma it has. Its the best.

Everyone trash talking this is just mad that Bloodhound finesse on a random noob builds hits like twice as hard as their Moonveil.
Oh. And make sure to use jump attacks with this monster.

One of the greats, great damage, great moveset, great ash, low reqs, scales well into NG+, and you can get it within your first 15 minutes of play easily.
Sure you'll never get the same level of damage you would out of a properly built moonlight greatsword, or any of the other broken strong weapons, but for how easily obtained and used it is you'd be hard pressed to find anything better that isn't cheese like bleed.
- Anonymous
This weapon is trash compared to the PKCS, only nubs and casuals run around with this piece of garbage.

Insane on a properly optimized quality build. Throw on shard of alexander and enjoy cutting people in half in pvp

I’m on my first playthrough of Elden Ring right now and this weapon has been my right-hand man for roughly 55 out of the 65+ hours I’ve put in so far. I’m taking things slow (this is sort of my first proper fromsoft game), but I ****in love this sword and I think I’ll keep using it for many more hours to come. I’m glad to see other people hold it in high regard as well

It's not a particularly pretty piece of rusty iron, but it gets the job done.

F**** yeah. The only weapon that teaches you how to truly play the game. Just saw someone wielding this run into Godfrey's second phase aoe where he tears up the ground. Then I went over to Radagon and saw someone apply Bloodflame Blade to it. He died in one hit. Y'all are geniuses.
- Anonymous
Really mediocre, the problem with 99% of from weapons are the boring moveset. This one could have been cool but u should be invulnerable both when u back up and when u dash forward. Considering heavy armor are ugly as **** and enemies are not fair at all. This is a bad weapon. Cheap version of the bloody helice

- Anonymous
Damn. People love this thing so much they pulled up the motion values. Lmao.
Anyway, in case anyone is confused, 118 is the MV for the 1 handed jump R1, 142 is the MV for the 1 handed jumping R2 and 128 and 151 are the 2 handed MV for 2hjR1 and 2hjR2 respectively.
However, do note that there are plenty of other infusable weapons with higher than average MV.

This weapon is so much fun! The L2 ability makes me feel like I'm playing a character action game. I wish more weapons had moves like this one.

Nice quality weapon great in early game and late game
Not the best for pvp and aow is terrible against enemies who parry

if i have to always jump might aswell use colossal or GS, idk the r1 and powerstancing l1 are so slooow

It’s a common misconception that quality builds are bad. There are tons of Somber weapons that scale with quality better than pure builds like this weapon. It’s also a huge misconception that quality builds are “bad”, or even for for Infusions. There is usually 1 weapon in every class where with the same investment as other pure builds, will just have a lower AR by 10-15 points (which isn’t that noticeable). It’s more restrictive but luckily the weapons that do scale good with quality are mostly good for their class like the Claymore and the Great Lance(which are considered to the best in their class). In my opinion, it’s a good trade off since you can use 70% of the games ashes of war while being able to use almost every type of weapon for mix ups, actually have very good range options for a melee build via bows/great bows since they scale rather well with quality, and power stance better on heavy weapons than str builds since you won’t be missing out on too much damage via 2 handing.
- Anonymous
I think it's a decent noob trap. Don't get me wrong it's a great weapon. Problem is it's a quality weapon and quality is pretty bad in ng so you won't have many other options on quality build. You also can't change rather mediocre skill. On another hand grab pulley bow and you can easily finish the game without trying or learning much. Plus it's still the best curved greatsword

If I am having trouble in the game old Bloodhound's Fang saves the day

Probably, pound for pound, the most effective and best weapon in the game.
Easy to get (Early game, Limgrave)
Upgraded with Somber Stones, which are easier to obtain and upgrade than standard Smithing Stones
Great Damage
Extremely good Moveset
Great Ash of War
Bleed
Like, it's hard to justify using anything else. This sword just covers everything.

No hate on the weapon, it's fine but I swear it's cursed.
Everyone I see using it do some of the dumbest plays I've seen and it's concerning.
So weapon is alright but please be mindful of the bloodhound curse when using it.

All the other curved greatswords donated their AR to this abomination. Sharing is caring, pls buff the other cgs from

So this was the first weapon I obtained from a boss. lvl67 right now and I'm still using it. I switch to other weapons to explore the variety of the game and builds, but this bad boy is always with me whenever I'm having trouble.
So if you're a new souls games player, like I am, I suggest to keep it as highly upgraded as possible throughout your playthrough as it helps in a lot of difficult areas, but use other armaments too - there's a lot of fun stuff to play with
- Anonymous
So, i finished NG+3 right now. Always was a Dual Colossal Greatsword user. With 99 Str and Dex. But i had a little trouble while fighting Radagon/Elden Beast.
So i switched on one of these just for fun and i deleted both bosses faster than i expected.
I will never go back to Colossal GS, only two handing this bad boy.
I‘m very excited to see how it will perform und the upcoming DLC ❤️

I think this weapon was a balance mistake. Everyone can get it because it's a guaranteed drop, potentially extremely early in the game, and it's just straight-up too good in every way. Why would you use anything else?
- Anonymous
This is the highest damage curved greatsword at 80 str and 80 dex having 910 AR in one hand and 939 AR in two. The Scalesword beats it by a measly 4 AR with minimum faith but has split scaling. Bloodhound's Fang can also be buffed. Being one of the earliest and easiest to acquire weapons, it's just one of the best weapons in the game from base level to a high level quality build
- Anonymous
"an amazing weapon for the first playthrough but because it cant be infused falls off hard in NG+"
I'm sorry dealing around 910 pure physical ar (goddam Greatsword deals less) one handed with 80 str 80 dex while having inate bleed, being buffable, having insanely damaging weapon skill, having higher attack modifiers on jump attack and being second longest curved greatsword is not enough for ng+??????
This and Reduvia completly destroys early game's balancing. And all you have to do is wait for the NPC allys to solve your problem. Remember when you had to kill bosses like the Dancer, Iron Dragonslayer Armor, Gundyr and Oceiros to get something remotely as powerfull? With ER you just ride to the right place and pick it up.

When fully upgraded scales much better with Dex, so if you are planning a Dex build you're in luck, and it works okay as a quality weapon. For my first character, which was built around this weapon and a decent shield, I had my strength in the mid 20s and my Dex around 40 and I constantly buffed this with Bloodflame Blade, which increases the bleed buildup substantially, so that's fantastic, and it also gives you fire damage, which is great. So you get high bleed without having to increase arcane at all. At around 25 str and 40 dex, this thing does a ton of damage, buff with bloodflame, which only requires 12 faith, and you have a high physical damage, high bleed procs, and some fire damage to boot. Assuming you have been leveling Vigor and Endurance appropriately the build should be finished around RL 100-110. Therefore, if you are planning to follow the 125-150 meta, you should have between 30-40 levels to splash around in the end. At which point you could turn into a tank and dump into more vig/end or you could mix a good deal of faith (and/or arcane magic) into the mix to give your character serious diversity both PvE and PvP wise. Only real downside I have found about using this weapon is that it only does "slash" damage, which is generally the weakest damage to targets with decent armor, which can really hurt this weapon in both scenarios, which would make it wise to have a solid and completely viable backup weapon with some blunt or standard. Cheers.

For PvP, this weapon is an absolute beast, hits hard, long as hell, and the little extra jump attack damage makes estus punishes hit extra hard
- Anonymous
This weapons really is just ol’ reliable. It’s so good and so easy to use. It seems cheesy but it’s really not because it’s not that hard to mess up and get punished for it. You don’t need to be smart to use it, but when you are, it’s even better.
- Anonymous
What should I go for after this? I’m currently using mostly the banished knight armor set with this weapon at +6
- Anonymous
i think its my favorite weapon. I use it on ng+4 and it still does good damage, especially when dual, and its not too slow. bloodhounds finesse deals respectable damage, i recommend using this
- Anonymous
Was this called darrawil's nail in the first version of the game or am I imagining things?

Noobs new L2 stick
Luckily it is the easiest thing to dodge in the game

This weapon single handedly makes the other martial (str/dex) only curved greatswords worthless, atleast for PvE. Has a good ash of war, very high base damage, base bleed, is buffable and has better scaling than all the other curved greatswords, even on quality infusion. Even at 55 str and minimum dex requirements, it has nearly the same AR has a heavy omen cleaver (the str CGS), + base bleed on top of it.
The only reason to never run this on a str/dex/quality build over the other curved greatswords is if you like the other curved greatswords movesets (very unlikely, since the R2s of the omen cleaver are bad), or if you want to use some specific ash of war instead of bloodhound's finesse.
For some people: this was their saving grace. For some people: this is the noob stick. For some people: this is a free parry. For me: I forgot this thing existed.
