Butchering Knife is a Greataxe in Elden Ring. The Butchering Knife scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for characters with high Dexterity builds. Its skill allows users to increase their attack power and execute strong combo attacks.

Signature weapon of the Ogress Anastasia, known to have eaten
countless Tarnished while disguised as a Finger Maiden.

Restores a very small amount of HP when it squarely strikes an enemy.

 

Where to Find Butchering Knife in Elden Ring

The Butchering Knife weapon can be found at the following location:

  • Dropped by Anastasia, Tarnished-Eater. [Elden Ring Map here]
    • This weapon comes pre-infused with the Sacred enhancement by default, although it has no custom Ash of War on it. If playing with beginning patches, Anastasia drops a "Standard" Butchering Knife with no Ash of War.
    • Since it has Sacred affinity but no Ash of War, it seems to be a bug by the programmers, but you can revert it to its base Standard affinity by infusing it with any Ash of War and then removing it.

 

Elden Ring Butchering Knife Notes & Tips

  • Weapon Skill: Barbaric Roar
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War
  • Can be buffed by Magic or Consumables
  • Butchering Knife can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones.
  • Hitting an enemy restores 1% HP per hit, regardless of speed of the attack. As such certain arts, such as Wild Strikes, or backstabbing, which hits twice, are more effective than usual.
    • Confirmed to work the Golden Land ash of war, with each beam healing the user per hit.
  • Has the lowest Strength requirement of all Greataxe class weapons. This allows one to utilize some two-handed weapons Ashes of War such as Golden Land, Prelate's Charge and Waves of Darkness with bare minimum Strength investment.

      This on a FlameArt build & the Firespark Perfume in the offhand is *chef's kiss* it's hard to choose between Sword Dance or Flaming Strike but it's perfect for a dex/faith build pyro.

        Just Remember the healing is % based so more max hp means more healing from this weapon. this makes this a good pairing with Talismans that provide extra max Hp such as the Crimson Amber or Radagon Sorseal. As well as being a decent boost with talismans that provide healing on hits like the Assassins crimson Dagger. Extra AP will not increase your healing rate though but still is not bad to have around. Very useful during long open world explorations where even a 1% heal can add up over time. Plus on some of those longer bosses with chonky health bars you can get a lot of extra hp back.

          giant butchering knife with lore that it was used to cut up tarnished and eat them, yet no blood ash of war. no bloody slice? no blood blade? nothing? this is one of the best weapons to have a blood theme with, and yet here we are, bloodyless...
          the disappointment is making my liver hurt.

            I wish this were a CGS, did slash damage and required less dex so that I'd have a funny slash option for my strength build to compliment my Rusted Anchor (pierce) and Brick Hammer (strike). Self-centered, I know, but I want to complete the funniness trinity.

                The problem is u can't make it just butchering knife. U must choose heavy keen blood etc. So wiki should call it "u choose" butchering knife or / BK or ___ Bk or something

                    I fall in love with that giant knife at first sight. I saw Anastasia running after me holding that with two hands over her head. That was scary, funny, adorable and s3xy at same time. I didn't know the pleaseful effect of recovering hp per hit. Now I want it even more. I love you Anastasia, but I don't forgive you for killing me some times, I will kill you using it in NG+.

                        I beat the whole dlc with this weapon using Prayerful Strike.
                        This also heals you and your summoned allies, even your mimic tear can heal you too if they are nearby using this ash of war

                                So here is the thing for anyone that doesn't cook, a "butchering knife" is not used like any other knives in the kitchen, it's meant to chop rough cuts off of whole limbs and is used in very much the same way a hatchet is used to split firewood, so yes, basically the chef axe! I see no problem with this...

                                  feels basically the same as the omen cleaver but slightly worse. it has the same R2 but the motion value is slightly lower uncharged. also the damagelevel is 2 instead of 3 (less stagger to pve enemies). slightly lower AR and less range. but it does weigh less and it does standard damage instead of slash.

                                                      They definitely butchered (no pun intended) this weapon by changing it from an axe to a greataxe and getting rid of its unique 1 handed r2. It’s always been a subpar weapon in terms of damage but made up for that fact by having a unique moveset and healing abilities. Keeping the 2 handed R2, which was trash in all the games except this one, but getting rid of the 1 handed R2 which was the best part of the weapon makes no sense. And now that it functions like a greataxe with the R1’s it loses its speed to poise damage advantage, and its range advantage relative to its class because it’s no longer an axe. They made the Iron Cleaver, which is essentially a different version of the one handed Butcher Knife, but then they shafted the real Butcher Knife.

                                                      They could’ve easily given it the Iron Cleaver one handed R2 and kept the spirit of this thing intact.

                                                            I was WONDERING why the hell this thing was called the "Sacred Butchering Knife" and had FAI scaling when I got it. Seemed to be rather weird theming, like the whole "carving people up and eating them" thing was some kind of holy ritual. Guess it's just a design quirk after all.

                                                                  Loved it in Dark Souls 3, Love it here too. The only thing that I gotta question about it's features is it's weight. How this piece of metal weighs less than a flamberge makes no sense and I do wonder if it was supposed to be a normal axe at some point as it was in Dark Souls 3.

                                                                  Anyways happy for it to be in the game. Keep having it, it's a great and fun weapon to use : )

                                                                    Duel weild poison is surprisingly legit. You get phantom poison build-up and 2% phantom hit healing. Poison mist ash of war heals 1% per tick they stand in the cloud even if not poisoned.

                                                                        This weapon is definitely the better option for PvP if you're going to be picking from the two HP regen per hit weapons. Great stars has about 30 more AR with the same stat investment (accounting for weight and stat requirements) but also less range, worse moveset and most importantly a poorer ash of war selection. If you plan on only using a single HP regen weapon and not powerstancing for PvP then this is the more optimal choice.
