Carian Sovereignty

carian sovereignty
Skill passed down the Carian royal family. Transform blade into a magical greatsword and bring it down. Additional input follows up with a horizontal sweep. Charge either attack to enhance potency.

Carian Sovereignty is a Skill in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLCCarian Sovereignty transform the equipped weapon into a massive magical greatsword and slams it in a vertical slash. Carian Sovereignty has Magic Affinity and is able to used with any sword.

How to get Carian Sovereignty in Elden Ring

  • Acquired from a teardrop scarab inside a cave south west from Cathedral of Manus Metyr filled with glintslab fireflies. The scarab is located on the ceiling of the cave. To find this cave go to the Church District Highroad Site of Grace. Head directly west until you reach the cliffline and then continue south. The cave is embedded in the east cliff wall at the end of this path. [Map Link]

Elden Ring Carian Sovereignty Guide, Notes & Tips

  • This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Carian Sovereignty.
  • FP Cost: 30 initial cast, and 12 for the follow-up.
  • Deals 48 stance damage fully charged and 45 stance damage for the follow-up (93 total)
  • Deals 100% Magic Damage
  • Deals roughly 20% more damage when set to the Magic Infusion vs Cold Infusion, but only when Attributes are optimized for Cold Infusion version (STR/DEX). Otherwise at the same INT values, Magic Infusion only deals 5% more damage than the Cold Infusion.
  • This Skill is Chargeable
    • When fully charged, the Skill will send forth a ground shockwave that has 2 separate bursts in a straight line, each dealing roughly 40% initial cast damage. Same target cannot be hit both with the slam and the bursts however, unless the target possesses several separate hitboxes.
  • Additional input swipes with the sword in a wide horizontal slash, dealing damage equal to the initial cast
  • Skill damage scales off Intelligence, weapon upgrade level, and infusion affinity (Magic granting the highest damage). This means it will do the same damage no matter which weapon you use as long as your INT and upgrade level remain the same on each weapon.
  • This Skill grants hyper armor poise during the cast animation, based on the weapon type used:
    • 118 (Greatswords, Curved Greatswords, Heavy Thrusting Swords)
    • 104 (Great Katanas)
    • 60 (Light Greatswords)
    • 30 (Straight Swords, Twinblades, Katanas, Curved Swords)
    • 28 (Thrusting Swords)
    • 22 (Daggers)
  • The following are tested on the troll near Secluded Cell site of grace in Stormveil Castle using Max Weapon upgrade when fully Charged and hitting with the follow up.

The fact that you can put this on a dagger is wild. Someone is trying to stab you with a dagger and then it turns into a sword the size of a tree and clobbers you into next tuesday

      • I am an STR build and I love this so much. I slapped that Knight of the Solitary Gaol (after he shot his bolts) with a fully charged and got almost 5K damage, even without Alexander Shard. I also one-shotted the Aging Untouchable and got 6K damage (parried them with my beloved Fire Knight dagger), again without Alexander Shard (my RL80 alt hasn't progressed to Farum Azula yet). All I needed to do was use some proper talisman (such as light setup and blue dancer), bloodsucking Physick, blood boil aromatic, Golden Vow consumable, etc. Btw I forgot to add that I used this on my Misericorde, recently there are some bosses that I love to fight with just daggers (parry, backstep+backstabs, slash).

120 stnace damage with barbed tear on, what the actual hell? Put on verdegris armor, slap this on dismounter or omen cleaver, and you can stagger lock consort with enough determination, poise, flasks, and regen spells. This thing is busted how do people not glaze it more.

For those who have used this extensively, what do you find to be a good weapon to put this on? I've been learning towards one of the larger weapons for the poise during the cast, but I could see it being good on smaller weapons too.

              • Anonymous

It makes no sense that it has different hyper armor values for different weapon classes, its the same attack.

Fun to use in invasions. I often land it after a riposte or a backstab. It's easier to land when you use mists or other lingering AOE spells to scare the host's party a little. My only complaint is you can't use it with the Carian Knight Sword.

I wish this was usable on colossal swords the the greatsword. the demonstration of power to swing a gigantic sword which channels magic to swin a far more gigantic magic sword would be cool as hell. if i can do a flip with my lump of iron, I can swing it around a little.

Best weapon to put this on is a Magic Iron Greatsword. You can get them from misbegotten warriors, easiest one to farm is in Miquellas Haligtree, although you can find them in Leyndell as well just not as accessible to a site of grace. Once you have that, the game is essentially one easy mode.

                      • I'm thinking of using this with cold smithscript daggers.

Smithscript dagger works better with statuses rather than direct damage; So not optimizing for cold isn't a big problem. (If going for lv200 we can easily get 80 int and at least 70 dex so that's fixed too)

The weapon doesn't have good stance damage, so we'll be relying on the ash and spells for that. And obviously, we can't trade either.
But we'll be attacking at a slight distance, so it might help.

The "charge either attack to enhace potency" is probably a mistraslation. You can only charge the first attack, wich puts the second attack in the charged state, but you can't quickly tap the first attack then charge the second, as the description implies.

                          • Anonymous

This on a cold knight's greatsword is fun, tons of stance breaks and frostbite, with the amazing standard attacks with the good reach as well. It's neat

I’ve been using this ash of war for invasions. It’s hard to pull off but so satisfying to 1 tap hosts and phantoms from full heath. I’ve also started using eternal sleep pots to hold them still to 1 tap

The description says you can charge both attacks but I’m not seeing any difference when ‘charging’ the follow up attack. Anyone having this issue as well?

                                • Anonymous

I'm just starting out on a Carian Knight themed run and I'm so bummed that I can't put this on an actual Carian weapon. Carian Knight Sword is too gorgeous to be held back like this.

so, what's the point of the carian knight sword now? why would i use grandeur over sovereignty? why would i use the cks over a cold or magic longsword?

                                    • Anonymous

should I put it in Gargoyle's Greatsword ? it has STR:D DEX:E INT:B scaling with magic infused.
many others are INT:C scaling at most but some has good utility such as Lizard Greatsword that can shoot projectile.
afaik, magic Flamberge and Forked Greatsword also INT:C (STR+DEX: E) scaling but has lower attack to balance with their blood loss buildup.

Absolutely broken amounts of damage for a skill that can be buffed with so many things (many talismans, Rogier set, physic flask, …) on top of that you get so much poise while charging I mean you can tank like 2-3 hits from some big enemies by putting it on a sword like Milady (was wearing rogier set so I had low base poise) makes me feel it’s doing unintended damage like the Perfumer bottle AoW. Easily can deal 10k+ damage with just simple buffs

                                        • Anonymous

Perfect. What I always wanted was a horizontal sweep option on the AoW similar to Carian Greatsword. Easily the prime AoW for any spellblade. Feels great on a Magic or Cold infused Milady.

                                          • While this skill is extremely strong, for some DLC bosses you might be better off using something else since this takes quite a while to pull off and even if put on a bigger weapon it's hyper-armor isn't that high, you can still be staggered by big attacks. Against regular enemies(or just any boss that can be staggered by regular attacks like malenia) it's more effective since it true-combos with itself and knocks enemies down.

                                            • I tested out some different weapon types to see their hyperarmor, and these were my findings. I only tested the weapon types i thought would be most applicable for this type of AoW, and if anyone else has any specific number requests I can check and update the post accordingly. Anyways here's what I found:

                                              Greatswords +118 poise
                                              great katana +104 poise
                                              light greatsword +60 poise
                                              straight sword +30 poise

The hyperarmor seems to start only when the blue blade actually forms, not when you start raising your weapon. I tested against some bosses as well, and the great katana seemed to get just as much hyperarmor as greatswords, which supports the numbers I pulled. I'm not sure if this is how hyperarmor works on all weapons, but the increased poise numbers above added to my total poise, which at the time of testing was 51.

TL;DR: hyperarmor on greatswords and great katanas are about the same, anything else gets reduced hyperarmor

                                              • Anonymous

Not only the best skill in the game, but also better than every spell and incantation in the game by a large margin. Huge damage, staggers nearly every boss in the game a single charged cast, and you can't be knocked out of it because it has hyper armor. Hopefully the inevitable nerf doesn't make it unusable.

                                                • Anonymous

This is best used on greatswords, as doing so gives it MUCH NEEDED hyperarmor. Straight swords and other smaller armaments won't get said hyperarmor.

                                                  • Anonymous

The damage and poise breaks you can get with this is out of this world, definitely one of the best AOWs in the game

                                                    • Anonymous

Oh my god i hit 5k on the follow up alone, and the only buff i had was alexander shard. Its gonna be nerfed, 90% sure.
