Claws are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Claws are equipped on both hands and excel in fast, close-range combat. They are lightweight pieces that feature innate Bleed, and users usually wear them on Dexterity Builds.

Claws are compatible with a range of different Ashes of War, allowing you to mix and match for whatever your needs may be.

NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, the speed of some attacks has been increased and the recovery time has been reduced. Also, poise damage of Claws has been increased. Weapon Arts remain unchanged

NOTE: As of Patch 1.09. The damage of claw weapons has increased

Still wonder if it is really usefull... DPS mean nothing in this kind of game as you cannot just stay next to enemies until he just die... And I guess claws does not "stun" so...

      • Anonymous

Daggers are actually superior to claws in every way and can use more weapon arts. At this point, I don't see a reason to use claws, besides looking cool. There are just far too many downsides to using claws, and daggers actually have an easier time hitting large enemies, especially enemies where you can't lock on to their feet. Looking at you, variant gargoyles. Why the developers decided that some enemies shouldn't be able to be hit consistently with lock on, I'll never know. Like for real, go fight the gargoyles locked on and watch how you can't hit them, because you can only lock onto their chest. That needs fixed. I literally had to go in free aiming my claw attacks to actually hit the bosses. They took all of my heals and were harder than far later bosses. Lmao!

        • Anonymous

Certainly an underrated weapon type, but unused by many for good enough reason imo. I don’t think the buffs were accurate on claws (they didn’t need damage imo), but I do think they need a buff…

Any powerstanced weapon type other than axes/hammers/flails are just better in both damage and reach, and I would argue speed as well, indirectly. The only real thing claws have going for them is damage relative to weight, which is phenomenal… but the actual dps isn’t as high as most weapons powerstanced, and the move set isn’t reliable either imo.

The major issue with claws and fists is that you can miss certain enemies even while your model is colliding with the enemy. This is very common against erdtree avatars in front, but it happens occasionally on other monsters too… similarly, it’s possible for claws to clash with the ground, interrupting the attack (happens on daggers as well, when 2-handed). Flighting on slopes or areas with clutter can be horrible.

These are the main reasons I stopped using claws, they are frustrating to use when in tight quarters because they clash with a variety of surfaces in a seemingly inconsistent way that doesn’t effect other weapons, and sometimes the claws don’t hit at point blank.

Imo claws need a buff to their forward motion while attacking, so that they close distance while fighting, mostly for the first R1 attack, but somewhat for others as well. R2 attacks could use the same treatment, across the board, but to a far lesser extent on uncharged R2’s. A tad bit more vertical hit box for those weird moments that just don’t register the hit, and some protection from clashing with surfaces.

This emphasizes the speed aspect of claws, and fixes my personal gripes. With these, I wouldn’t mind a slight reduction in damage, but I don’t think it is necessary.

Not that any of this will ever happen, but I think it’s neat to consider changes to the feel of a weapon, rather than just straight nerfs and buffs to damage and/or attack speed.

I really wish there was a way to farm two of the same claw in one playthrough... why must I wait until NG+ to live my Wolverine fantasy!?

            • Anonymous

Since these deal Pierce damage, Glintblade Phalanx and Glintstone Pebble should be available.

              I'm only partially joking.

              • Anonymous

Dual-wielded greatspears get 180 degrees tracking on their roll attack, but claws, some of the fastest and lightest weapons in the game, get like 90 degrees tracking on theirs. Not a major issue, but still wierd.

                • Anonymous

I just realized there isn’t a single somber claw weapon in the game. I’m pretty sure this is the only weapon class that lacks somber weapons. A lightning claw weapon kind of like plasudisax’s lightning claw attack would be cool

                  • Anonymous

Oh my god what is wrong with these developers. Did claws really need a buff? Did they really need to win trades on rolling attacks?

                    • Anonymous

Contrary to what March 27 Anon said, Bloodhound Claws are second best for Keen/Lightning infusion in spite of having lower scaling than Hookclaws. Technically for Keen, Hookclaws do pull 1 AR ahead at 95 Dex, but Bloodhound Claws are ahead prior to that, and for lightning infusion (which was recently buffed along with other elemental infusions and is pretty solid now) Bloodhound Claws are clearly better (like 8 AR ahead in both damage types) than Hookclaws. Hookclaws does have the reach advantage tho.

                      • Anonymous

Venomous claws has the highest damage with keen and lightning infusion. hookclaws is second, bloodhound third, and raptor claws fourth.

                        • Anonymous

so, if you infuse one claw with, say, blackflame blade and then two-hand them (dual wield) does the infuse transfer to the other hand?

                          • Anonymous

apply blood blade intcant to make it bleed more, but i prefer cold affinity and It becomes lightest weapon that could do blood loss and frost bite at the same time, let you put on more heavy armors

                            • Anonymous

I'd have liked to see an implementation of the deflect mechanic from sekiro, especially when considering how wonky enemy hitboxes can be and the inevitable issues that arise from it. Imo when 2h weapons, blocking at the correct time should do poise damage. You can even keep parry AoW viable by making the deflect do much less posture damage than a parry.
In doing so, using block when 2h or running say a claw/fist build has a purpose and truly allows a different way of playing the game in an organic manner. Idk seems like a big missed opportunity to progress the combat system and hurts many styles of running the game.

                              • Anonymous

Just completed a claw run, and all I can say is the final boss can go die in a fire. I went out of my way to get the frenzy flame ending out of pure spite.

Holy **** this bug on the 2h claws stopping you from running attacking after jumping makes going up divine tower in caelid cancer. You jump onto the platform with the torchpole guy and stare at him intently while he shoves you to your death

                                  • Anonymous

Claws are such a fun weapon... on paper. In execution they made it nearly impossible to actually hit most enemies with their wacky hit boxes. In particular large enemies are horrible, you can be standing so close to them that it won't let you get any closer and attacks will still not connect with the edge of their hit box. Would LOVE for them to be worth using, but sadly unless you're willing to power through consistently whiffing attacks you should 100% be landing, you're better off using a different weapon type like power stancing curved swords

                                    • You can powerstance two different claws. That means a cold hookclaws in the left hand (bleed, frost) and a venomous fang buffed with rot grease in the right (poison, rot) lets you build up 4 status effects with a single attack if you want to make a "flashbang" build that makes people panic.

                                      • Anonymous

Does royal knight resolve work the same on this running attack as on katar? Like does it do double damage? Also looks like the two handed R1 could do double the dmg as well

Nice invisible wall in front of me whenever I try to ****ing jump attack, especially at the front of big enemies.

                                          • There seems to be a bug when "2-handing" fist or claw weapons, to where you can't sprint attack for some time after jumping/landing. It really hampers using jumping as a feint in pvp. If you power stance 2 different fist or claws the sprinting L1 will work even though its the exact same attack as the 2-handed sprinting R1. I hope this gets fixed like the rolling rapier bug, but with how rare fist/claw weapons seem to be used my hopes aren't high. Posting this in both pages for visibility

Claws for the most part don't do anything special. They have innate bleed which is..
Okay. But they don't have poise damage, damage, ashes of war, or hell, any unique aspects that another class of weapon doesnt.

Guys, fist weapons AREN`T claws. So please smack yourself on the head if you try to say something like: "errr actually there are more claws like the ceastus etc"

                                                • Anonymous

Dual daggers are far faster than claws in terms of attack speed. In a claw vs dagger duel with no poise on either side, claw player must outspace the dagger player to get an attack off.

Kinda dissapointed that there is no Beast-Claw type weapon like the one in Bloodborne , considering how much beasts play a role in the game and its lore it would only be fitting...

Oh well still made a working beast build with the Incantations, the Clawmark Seal, the Cinquedea and the Beastclaw Greathammer

Why is hookclaws better than bloodhound claws, if last one does many damage than first one + have more cool ability?

I love these weapons, have 3 of them with different affinities equip so I can change on the fly if something is weak to one of them <3 <3 <3

Can you powerstance these? Like can I equip two claws instead of 2 handing? I find the lack of L1 attacks quite weird considering it can block

Several weapons are missing from this list - Spiked Caestus, the Skeleton Arm thing that has the lifesteal Skill, the incantation fists you can find in the roundtable behind the stonesword key doors, and the Katar.

I can't remember where I've found all of these things off the top of my head, but that's literally double the options presented so far.

I am suprised at the lack of claw weapons. They are a pretty cool item, but only 4 that i have found? Not even special versions, not one of the claw weapons use Somber meaning none of them are rare or legendary weapons. Rather sad.

Your missing the prosthetic and the claw weapon you get in the roundtable. There's also a Caestus somewhere too

The place is full of illusory walls and behind one of them-specifically a wall that a skeleton is facing-you’ll find two chests with one containing the talons.

Jump off the railing down the middle where the guy invades you and head left. Its a faith based claw with a strong WA and only deals holy and scales off only faith. It also requires 30 faith. it pretty cool weapon.
