Cleanrot Spear is a Spear in Elden Ring. The Cleanrot Spear scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity, and Faith and is a good Weapon for Faith based fighters.
Spear of the Cleanrot Knights who fought alongside Malenia, Blade of Miquella.
The winged golden blade deals holy damage. The diminutive shield is blessed with an incantation that wards off rot.

You can stunlock the one outside of the Haligtree Prayer Room with Moonveil AOW R2, easy as pie. Still took a long ass time to get it tho. I got 11 Swords, 7 Lily's, 12 Helms, 6 Armors, 7 Gauntlets and 5 Greaves before one of these bad boys dropped.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Was farming the 7 spear wielding ones in the swap (and the 2 halo ones on the path) for the spear.
The spots marks where they are submerged in the swamp, so use an aoe or something to hit them without waiting for them to rise
Managed to get 22 swords, multiple sets of armor, and 5(!!) halo scythes before i got the spear..
- Anonymous
Ash of war of this weapon needs hyper armor. Super slow and readable. Good to trade if you didn’t flinch from even daggers
- Anonymous
Do any other weapons (other than shields) increase any types of resistance or is this the only weapon that does
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
After 4 hours, I'm starting to believe this weapon is a prank, nonexistent. I got more Halo Scythe than anything else.
- Anonymous
Lol literally just got it 1st try outside Haligtree Prayer Room. Discovery at 183.
- Anonymous
If you're farming for cleanrot items (armor, thrusting sword, spear, scythe) don't farm the haligtree. Farm the Swamp of Aeonia, just outside the boss area. There's at least 8 of them and no other enemies. Takes a few mins to kill all of them on horseback, very easy too. I got a full set and all 3 weapons (6 of the swords) in less than 1.5 hours
- Anonymous
48 kills of the knight next to the prayer room, 243 discovery
- Anonymous
Get this and no giant crab will ever give you trouble again. The weapon art destroys them efficiently.
I really want to love this weapon but it's just so mediocre.
For comparison, the Inquisitor's Girandole has the exact same base damage, only swapping holy for the better fire damage type. Oh and the Girandole also offers bleed and much stronger faith scaling. The Cleanrot Spear does get a multi-poke R2 and a unique (and mediocre) skill but it's still inferior in most situations.
- Anonymous
Wish it could block half as effectively as the Knight's who use it
SPEAH OF DE CHUCH, SWORN DEFENDER OF OR PRINCES FILINOR! MAAAAKE HAAASTE!

I went farm the armor set and could not make the gauntlets drop, but this one dropped...
- Anonymous
some weapon wiki pages talk about how good a weapon is, some talk about how long it took to farm one, and that tells you all you need to know, I think.
- Anonymous
With 245 discovery it took me close to 300 kills to get this thing
- Anonymous
Weirdly, I got 6 swords and 6 of each piece of armor, before getting the spear. This guy is cursed.
- Anonymous
Having silver scarab and 16 arcane, before I got the spear I got: 10 (ten) cleanrot swords, 5 helmets, 7 body, 5 gloves and 5 boots - farming only the one outside prayer room in haligtree.
- Anonymous
I killed this dude 40+ times and i still dont get it, 1% is crazy
- Anonymous
If someone were to tell me that they've patched it out of the game, I'd be inclined to believe them at this point.

This spear is so cool. Buuut it would be sick if the ash worked similarly to the Death's Poker spear so you could choose between the wide or long range phalanx similar to how the Cleanrot Knights do.
The shield is stuck to the side of the spear, it looks oxidized and crusty, and isn't part of the moveset. The moveset is the same as the Short Spear. The spear pole is an ugly mustard yellow. The skill screws you over by slowing down your recovery frames if you're not holding the movement keys while you're not able to ******* move. Incredibly slow to farm, and farming it in War-Dead Catacombs is hell and will make you wish you were playing a turn-based game even if you like hack and slash games because at times it suddenly throws 5 formidable enemies on you, sometimes from off-screen, when the player character can generally at best fight two at the same time because of sheer animation limitations and not having incredibly OP attacks like the enemies do. I recommend not bothering farming this.
- Anonymous
Not sure if I should be disappointed this doesn't have unique blocking r2s like the knights use it or glad that we don't have to put up with a spear version of the fume ultra greatsword in pvp
- Anonymous
Tested this at Secluded Cell grace on the troll outside, to see if the ash of war deals pierce damage and it did 821 damage with the spear talisman on, and it does the same damage without it. What I also noticed is you can get the ash of war to hit the troll twice if you time it right with him drawing his sword, bringing the damage from 821 to 1642. This was done without hitting the troll with the weapon itself, it was purely the sacred phalanx dealing damage. Hitting with the weapon does 621 damage + the 821 (x2 if you're lucky). PS; your damage numbers may vary depending on stats/upgrades/gear of course.

Had to farm for 3 hours. Got 3.5 million runes on NG+7 before I got the spear. Good times.

Cleanrot Knights are the Black Knights of this game - that is to say they are deeply loyal knights who willingly accepted a ruinous fate for the sake of their master. They also look sick as hell and are particularly difficult enemies. However, Black Knight weaponry faithfully recreates some of the attacks that the Black Knights themselves do. The same can't be said of Cleanrots. It's a shame. I would have accepted even if this spear had a noticeable above-average guard boost and blocking stats, but it doesn't; even with the little built-in shield it has *less* guard ability than the Partisan.
- Anonymous
i love this weapon because it remember me the spears of the Church covenant from darksouls 3
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Should've made it a unique weapon that, when two-handed, uses a Cleanrot Knight Thrusting Sword in your off-hand, similar to the few unique weapons in DS3. Maybe in the DLC we'll get "Finlay's Spear" that has that moveset, although I'm pretty sure he had a scythe...

Good lord my luck’s a roller coaster ride. Somehow managed to get this in Aeonia Swamp in my second sweep of the area without even trying to farm for it. I swear the less I care about an item for a certain build, the more likely it is to drop.
- Anonymous
I got 1 Mil runes while farming solely for this on Prayer Room. NG, 274 discovery and patch 1.10

Super neat spear but really bummed this spear doesn't get better scaling with faith. It would be so good on a faith caster build since that Ash is pretty good as putting a wall between you and aggression.
Is this weapon meant to cause Scarlet Rot and Poison buildup when equipped?
- Anonymous
Man, i wish i could use their special counter...
That'd be so sick
- Anonymous
As a main weapon, it's nuts. The r2 poisebreaks with ease and the ash of war is just excellent for overly-aggressive enemies like dogs.
- Anonymous
am i the only one seriously bothered by the fact that the tiny shield is facing the wrong way when you off-hand it?

A little tip of the swamp of aeonia farm: use the dragonfire incantation to search and kill the cleanrot knights. It either leaves them with 80 ish hp or kills them right away, and can be used on horseback so you can simply forget about the scarlet rot.
- Anonymous
Thanks for the farm route. I got my spear after killing 4 knights.
- Anonymous
Honestly this weapon would be so much cooler if it had a 90% guard. I would love being able to two hand this instead of the usual shield (no skill) combo.
- Anonymous
Im surprised no one talks about this weapon. The ash of war is super cool and while the weapon isn't amazing, it still does enough damage to be viable.
- Anonymous
"The diminutive shield" is also blessed against Kick skill. Really, Cleanrot Knights wielding these spears are THE ONLY guarding enemies in the entire game whose guard cannot be broken with a single kick (not sure about the ones in the swamp, but it's definitely true for the ones in Haligtree). It's kinda ironic, since all knights with tower shields can be easily riposted after just one successful kick.
- Anonymous
This, Mushroom set and Ant's Skull plate for outings to the Lake of Rot...
- Anonymous
I leveled up 4 times before I got it. Hard to say if that's good or bad as a result.
- Anonymous
should have higher than normal guard boost since the cleanrot knights will literally block a nuke with it
- Anonymous
Not an amazing weapon but the ash of war does have some fun combo potential in pvp thanks to the delay on the spears. Urumi R2 true combos into it as well as a lot of spells.
After setting up my route from one grace to another, marking all their locations as well as the halo scythe enemies, on the first round, the forth one dropped me this spear. On my way to the grace, well there was one in my way, why not kill it? And so he dropped me another one. Two in a row. Good luck to you guys, my tip would be:
-Find every item you want to get (the % drop items) and respec everything into arcane, farm some Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot and get Silver Scarab medallion.
-Start farming
-???
-Profit

Will someone trade me this? I will give you cleanrot scythe at +9 and sword at + 25. Also, three cleanrot sets. If so, meet me at Haligtree roots sight of grace.
At +10, with maxed faith, strength and dexterity, having the Alexander Shard + Holy Scorpion talisman, you will only be granted a total of 2300~dmg.
As most enemies and bosses in the game are holy resistant, the weapon actually only deal between 700 to 1400 dmg depending on your journey.
This weapon is not worth the trouble pve wise, you can either use it to fight undead (even then, there are better options available) or just farm it for the sake of having it.

i could make the spear from scratch with the amount of lily's i got from this

-Mom can we have spear of the church's divine spear fragment?
-we have divine spear fragment at home

It'd be cool if pairing it with the cleanrot knight's sword allowed you to block the same way the cleanrot knights did, hell, maybe even something like timing a "perfect block" could give you the same retaliatory pulse that the cleanrot knights do when you attack them while they're guarding, like an Erdtree Greatshield effect but for melee.
does the guy in front of prayer room not drop it or does the weapon simply not exist
- Anonymous
The skill is really cool, just wish it had a longer range to make it better. It's just far too short for my liking.
- Anonymous
I wish the game let you do the cross-block/retaliation move the Cleanrots have
The double stab R2 has got to be one of the worst R2’s in this game. Can’t poise break for ****, it’s slow, and has terrible tracking. A cool weapon art wasted on a terrible moveset
- Anonymous
I just spent a couple of hours farming this for my new character. No silver fowl foot or scarab. I used the Grace site just south of the bottom right night shown on the map picture on this page. I would just run from that grace site to where that knight spawned, burst him down with Catch Flame (you start with it as prophet) as he climbed out of the water and he was dead by the time he could stand. Fast travel to the grace site and repeat.
I don't like the spawn/Grace site shown on this page because following the route outlined here brings you in the path of Millicent and if you want the armor in the early game you have to either avoid that entire area or deal with her in a lake of rot which is annoying.
After my farm I had a bunch of the swords and about two and a half sets of the armor, and two spears.
- Anonymous
It’s simply not worth farming for. I cannot emphasize that enough. It’s a good offhand weapon (exactly how the cleanrots use it) and the L2 is situationally useful for buffing/healing mid combat. But it gets old fast and you’ll be out performed by anyone with a thrust sword and be suffocated by meta slaves spamming heavy thrust swords. You are slower, do less damage, have less range and do less poise damage than the all too popular epee. And stitcher is even longer than epee. And bloody helice is longer still. I really believe heavy thrust swords should have identical damage/stagger as spears for obvious reasons.

Reading all these comments, I was dreading having to farm this. But I kid you not, I got the spear from the very first Cleanrot Knight I encountered. I feel so blessed, but I have a feeling farming for the Cleanrot set will be awful.

6 cleanrot swords, 12 cleanrot helmets, 2 cleanrot chestplates, 6 cleanrot gloves (aor whatever they are called), and 4 cleanrot greaves before dropping it. I spent hours killing the knights, but I got it.
It's cool, such a shame holy damage is bad in this game.

Here’s a good way to farm for the spear at the Heart of Aeonia grace, doing it quickly is important since the knights patrol the area:
- Right after standing up from grace, hop on torrent, use a silver pickled fowl foot, and head directly west. Right when you pass the first tree branch there’ll be the first knight.
- After that one, ride torrent southwest where knight #2 is. While you take care of them, #3 will rise from the swamp directly next to you.
- Ride torrent east now to find knight #4, this will be the only knight to see you coming so be alert if you’re squishy. Take it out and head a short ways southeast between the two circular land(?) masses where knight #5 will slowly rise from.
- Hop on torrent again and head northeast, knight #6 will rise from the middle of the clearing. Then ride torrent northwest, hop up the branches to get right back to the site of grace to rest and start again.
If you can kill knights in 1-2 attacks, the cycle of 6 knights three times will roughly last the duration of your discovery buff, at around 18 knights per silver foot.
Happy hunting!

Took me about 50 kills to get. The easiest one to farm at lower levels is the sleeping one, directly north and slightly west of southern aeonia swamp bank site of grace. You can fight it solo and stand on the tree trunk to avoid rot, if you approach from the east and don't aggro the other wandering ones - then it's an easy fast travel back to the grace to reset. Took a while, but slap an album on and zone out. It's worth it for this rare and drippy faith spear. A nice direct upgrade from the prophets starting spear, combined with the same unique R2 and a fun ash of war. I farmed this at level 35 with no upgrades, and yoinked the 1h sword along the way. Happy poking!

It's very much worth getting the silver scarab talisman before attempting to farm for this. I spent hours trying with high arcane, pickled feet and no luck. After getting the scarab, it only took about 20 minutes. I tried to leave a message of joy and encouragement for others but got scarlet rot while choosing my words and died. But I died happy, clutching my spear!

Almost 2 hours in... Still nothing, 324 discovery, 20+ of each armor piece yet still no spear
I guess I used up my luck when I got the Noble's sword in 20 minutes lol

The R2 hits like an Airstrike, wish it had a unique powerstance with the other rotknight weapons though

The 2nd instance of the L2 is still bugged and not buffed by Shard of Alexander

Finally! After 1,5 hours, 15 swords, 14 helms, 10 armors, 14 gauntlets, 8 greaves and a bunch of flowers. I got it at the prayer room. Thank you all for supporting me.

Someone dropped one of these randomly for me.
I had to restart on a brand new account because my old one got permabanned . I'd platinumed the game & was level 300ish
Now I'm a stank newbie , with nothing again. I had so many stacks of souls I'd give to people I was helping on my old account
How good is this spear now? Post update? I was a str/faith build predominantly using lightning before

A dropped ball for This weapon, it’s unique appearance and that mob that drops it would indicate that it should have a block strong attack like the Carian Knight Sword has. Really bummed it doesn’t

About 134 kills, or 1.6M runes, at the Prayer Room grace to get this. 197 discovery.

Everyone talking about the lack of powerstance. I'm wondering why the AoW doesn't work the same way the Death Poker's AoW does, one input for long ranged line, another for short range AoE. Feels like FS really dropped the ball on some of these weapons.
- Anonymous
Mediocre scaling, mediocre damage. Aow is horizontally, scales off faith, apparently. Doesnt powerstance with cleanrot Sword, same goes for the scythe.

Some please trade me this ill give you 2 halo scythes and full cleanrot set

I can confirm that the fella outside the prayer room does drop the Cleanrot Spear, but the chance appears to be much lower than for the other drops. I pillaged literally three full armor sets and five swords before I got the spear.

193 discovery, got the clearot spear on my first try in Prayer Room... it felt like I won the lottery O_O
(Before that, I was farming the Celebran's Rib Rake in Windmill Village for about 2 hours before it dropped...)

I sound like a bad person but I've had amazing drop rates with Cleanrot Knights in the past. I've used their armor for 3 different playthroughs and weapons for 2 different playthroughs, and to get the full Cleanrot Knight build, it took me less than 20 minutes each time. Swamp of Aeonia has a ton of these buggers, and once you learn the maximal efficiency path to kill as many in as little time as possible, it's amazing.
The first weapon we got shown in the teaser trailer for elden ring. Sekiro had just come out and the spear prosthetic in that game (felt weighty, satisfying to use) had me so hype for spears in E.R, the last spear weapon we got was in the ringed knight spear in dark souls 3 which was amazing.
This turned out trash.
Like, really trash.
Spears are trash.
I am so upset.
