Commoner's Garb is a Chest Armor in Elden Ring. Commoner's Garb is part of the Commoner's Set, and is a light weight cloth set worn by the Commoners found across the map. Commoner's Garb is an armor piece worn over or around the player's torso to obtain an increase of defense and resistance. It also changes the appearance as well when it is equipped. Some armor pieces may be available to both genders but may be slightly different for male and female characters.
Garb with a thick embroidered cape attached.
Standard wear for commoners of the Lands Between.
The board hung from the neck depicts a sprawling tree, its roots
and branches forming two holes. This is a self-imposed shackle, a
voluntary display of allegiance to the Erdtree that increases faith.

Is it just me or does the board sort of look like godwyns upside down face with the two large holes being eyes and the smaller one at the top being a nose?

This can be found on the commoners found in Fort Haight before you kill the blood knight. This makes it possible to get this before facing Margit.

Very good for SL1, as already said. Almost objectively better than the pickup Commoner's Simple Garb with 1.1 extra phys def (altered and unaltered), only losing a tiny bit of elem/status resist.
Worth farming early from Stormveil Cliffside grace, the room ahead has 9 Commoners confirmed to drop it.

Absolutely essential for a SL1 run, along with Marikas scarseal and rulers headgear gives the ability to cast rotten breath

I mean, this can be useful even if not on a faith build, it does technically give extra defensive properties due to the faith bonus.
The easiest way to farm it is within redmane castle in the very south tower.
There are like 8 of them at once.
