Cranial Vessel Candlestand is a Great Hammer (Warhammer) in Elden Ring. The Cranial Vessel Candlestand scales primarily with Strength and Faith, with reduced scaling in Dexterity. It is a potent Weapon with formidable range, suitable for high strength players who want to deal Fire damage and can tolerate this hammer's weight.

Candlestand used in worship of Birac, the most hallowed Monk
Prelate of the Giants' Flame. Concerned over the lazy arrogance
with which the monks treated the Flame, Birac severed his own
head as a lesson to the others, intending it be used as a
candlestand. His faith yet smolders from within the cranial vessel.

already eyeing this as a backup weapon for dlc, might just use it right away because of that description, dude really beheaded himself just to make a point that his co workers were bums in regards to treating the erdtree killing super god flame and they made him into a candlestand so his example would live on forever and that all monks/prelates since then would be up to par

I used this, the fire prelate armor, and the giant eye shield…ultimate fat drip. With shard of alexander, fire scorp, rotten wing, and arrow sting talisman, became a one man moble emplacement armament.

        • I second the previous comment's statement. I used this with my Mimic Tear against the Tree Spirit hovering around the Giant-Crusher, and that thing quite literally MELTED.

          • Anonymous

This with fire damage buffs and what not I can get well over 1500 damage on ng. And this with the fingerprint shield and its insane guard counter range makes the game easy mode

I can't think of a single thing in my life so far that I have been so devoted too that I would cut off my own head to prove a point. Props to Birac for his dedication I guess.

The ash is actually three attacks. Before the explosion and fireballs. The action where you slam it down can deal damage at extremely close range. Very little damage but seemingly very high poise damage and can reliably stun most enemies in place to be hit by the explosion. It can’t combo players but they will still be caught in the explosion if they try and roll out of the first hit.

Pure fashion energy! The ash of war does mega damage, but is pretty bad for PVP unfortunately. But who cares when you can dress up like a Flame monk/Prelate and burn heretics with the self-severed head of a monk?!?!?!

                  • Anonymous

Finally found something that can defeat those three tree spirits in Ashen Capital.
It's not an easy fight, of course. But they have to get near you to hit you. If you lean heavily on the AoW, you can burn them up one at a time.

                    • Anonymous

The ash seems to have had an undocumented buff to it's damage along with the fireball generation speed. Before it was doing about 1700 for me with the fireballs doing a pitiful 40 or so, but now it does 2000-2500 with the fireballs doing 250-400 each with the same stats a before. It's still not the best ash in the game and it would be hard to land in pvp, but with the proper timing could be similar to Mogh's spear to counter a gank. It's really nice for PVE now too since it costs almost no FP and can deal with crowds extremely well

goofy lore, guy thought his colleagues were lazy so he... cut his own head off? and used it as a peice of furniture? why?

                        • Anonymous

I like to call this weapon "the dragon slayer". Get underneath any dragon with this thing and blast them right in the gooch with the AoW. It's surprisingly effective and very satisfying. 10/10 would recommend.

The physical resistance strength builds get is absurd. Add high fire resistances from 60 vigor. Then both resistances will stack on top of scaled armor and 2134 hp. 40 str,48 fth and my cranial will not overcome the resistances of meta builds in duels: I chose those investment numbers specifically to get the max AR/catalyst scaling per point. On my other 50 fth build, a sacred infused mace will do 4-500 dmg against the same meta build. While this greathammer does 2-350 dmg with higher stat requirements, investment and higher AR on stat menu. FGMS only lasts 30 seconds but is necessary to make a great hammer overcome resistances. Meanwhile a double lance enthusiast can 3 shot my heavy armor, 60 vigor build. At least this almost 800 AR greathammer does good damage to anything that’s not a strength build and the ash can mess up ganks.

Slow ash but BEEFY DAMAGE. Also the guy freaking sliced his head off just to tell the others to stop being lazy what a chad!

                              • Anonymous

I got this hammer a couple of days ago but when I tried the weapon art to see if I'd want to use the somber stones to upgrade it the damage I saw it do to each enemy hit by an individual fireball was in single figures mostly seven or nine and it looked like some weren't taking any damage at all. I have decent STR and FTH so I don't understand why it was that ineffective. One comment here says it has "great damage" and "good AoE" so if anyone can tell me what's happening with it I'd appreciate any replies.

Just to clarify, it wasn't anything to do with the enemies I used it on. The roided out albinaurics at blood-filled lake don't have stupidly high damage negation for fire because when I use black flame ritual to buy time to heal they can't pass through the circle of fire to get at me, it staggers them every time they try and kills them if they keep on trying. No one here is saying the AoE is buggy so the only other thing I can think of is the weapon art doesn't work properly if its used against enemies on a different elevation to the player, this is a problem with some incantations so maybe for this hammer's weapon art as well?

I like how the moment i respecced into dex/faith the game started throwing the really wacky and cool strength weapons at me.

I want this but that "lesser" burial watchdog cu*t near the first lit up sigil has me at 5-1 I killed it the first time but since then it's been taking the pi*s and battering me. Is there any way to give myself a decent advantage over those f**kers?
I haven't died to any of the burial watchdog bosses so the non boss version being that powerful is a pain in my arse.

You ever just get so sick of your colleague's laziness that you behead yourself and have your severed head glued on top of a candlestand? Cannot relate more.

I’ve never really been good at configuring stats in souls games can I get some help and tell me how you guys did it for this weapon + flame incantation?

Great range, great damage, not too heavy, unique design, good aoe skill with some hyper armor, being great hammer can stagger for days, only slight complain is that it can use a slight buff in activation speed for the skill (as it's right now slightly slower than mohg spear aoe, and slower than mornes hammer in ds games) and even then with it being multi hit that's just nitpick.

                                          • Anonymous

Everyone should use this weapon. Dude cut his head off to prove a point and his damn beard is still on the weapon. True sacrifice 10/10

Having an absolute blast (hehe) in pvp. FGMS + fire scorpion + fire cracked tear = one shot a ton of people. Ganks stand no chance

Have you ever been so pissed at your own coworkers that you cut off your own head to be turned into a candlestand to prove a point?

                                                  • Anonymous

You can chain the skill into itself as many times as you have FP and stamina for. The explosions combined with the AOE eruption make you nearly unapproachable. You get a massive hyper armor boost, to boot.

If you're not being pressured, but feel a gank rapidly approaching, anchor this baby on the ground and become a 1-shot stage hazard. It may not be very good for duels, but it shines in invasions.

I jave love and hate opinion about this weapon. I love it cuz the poise buff and wa damages like truck. Hate it cuz it's normal damage output is small for ultra weapon. I wished it had at least A scaling with faith.

                                                      • Anonymous

Everyone rakshas talks about how broken the horn is, but holy crap this thing is strong. If you get set up on a boss with the L2 it dies in literally seconds. Pretty solid in pvp too as far as big weapons go. You probably won’t hit anyone with the weapon art but if someone hasn’t seen the attack before or some gankers get over confident and try to trade with you… they will have time to think about their poor choice during a loading screen that’s for sure!! I’m in love with this weapon, it even has a backstory and everything!!

                                                        • Anonymous

This is a fantastic str / faith weapon. It's boosted by fire scorpion talisman too. With shard of Alexander there's potential for some crazy damage on the weapon art.
One handed R1's are great for pvp, they have a huge swing arc that will wrap around back on yourself.
The only true drawback of the weapon is that the art has a long windup, easily punished - but does have moderate hyperarmour to facetank an initial hit even with little poise. A hidden gem, expect to see it used more in the PvP scene

This is a solid choice for Radagon, he's weakest to strike and fire, the weapon also has a surpising attack speed

one of the few great str/faith weapons, get under a large enemy and go ham with the ash of war attack, the initial cast seems to take longer than the repeat casts. Really low FP consumption for the damage you can do with it.

                                                                • Anonymous

since it's not mentioned on the page, this thing attacks extremely fast. It feels as if it has the same attack speed as a regular curved sword or faster. It also gets a B scaling in both faith and str at +10 and just testing with a build that can barely wield it (faith boosting via accessories and great rune) the weapon art seems to do about as much damage as Radhan's swords, minus the pull effect but it is fire which is useful as cc against most horde enemies
