Crucible Hornshield is a Greatshield in Elden Ring. The Crucible Hornshield is a Shield that scales primarily with Strength. Greatshields weigh a decent amount and provide the best protection in the game. Greatshields provide a greater value of blocking and protecting oneself from enemy and boss attacks, but greatly increases the weight and reduces the player's mobility. This type of shield works best at reducing damage or guarding instead of parrying.
Greatshield of red-tinged gold carried by Crucible Knights.
Features a great horn.
An ancient holiness dwells within. The crucible horn skewers foes when performing shield bashes.

It is a shame this turned out to be a normal Shield Bash. This should've been the same as Crucible Knight does, a Upward Shield Bash that can throw enemies up just like Giant Hunt and does pierce damage.
- Anonymous
Locked into non-unique WA, how unfortunate. A piercing bash would have been much more fitting - even a "No Skill" WA would have been fine, to allow us to go instantly into a WA from the shield being out.
Worse than that though in my opinion is the Stability; 66 at max lvl is inexcusable for a greatshield with no special attributes.
Some 3.5 weight medium shields can get 66 stability, with around a dozen medium shields in total surpassing this (brass shield is 75) when upgraded to max, not even mentioning the other greatshields.
Unless you are die-hard about cosplaying a crucible knight, there is (unfortunately) not many redeeming qualities to this shield.
The weapons and armor are thankfully great though!!

If only this was a small shield...
My Dark Siegmeyer cosplay would be complete...

Should have a unique aow that actually strikes upward and skewers foes, like "Crucible shield bash" and also needs a bit of a guard boost increase
- Anonymous
looks like i'm trying to protect my crotch with it whenever i use it

It would be more interesting if this shield had at least some unique properties, and was not just there for aesthetics. I would give the shield a diminutive buff to all Aspects of the Crucible, like they already did with the Crucible set. I think at least 4% would be enough to complement thematic builds. I would also change Shield Bash to "no skill" and make it a special guard counter that uses the horn and deals pierce damage, regardless of the weapon in hand.
Neither the Crucible incantations nor the guard counters are something that overly breaks the game mechanics; there is nothing wrong with buffing them a little.
this feels like it could be a unique, secret, cool and awesome shield, but yet it was given boring stats, fixed boring ash
- Anonymous
Does having a basic ash not ruin the whole point of a somber weapon??? Only other thing I would accept is if it has a basic ash but still boosted something else like the beast incantation dagger, though this thing is just pathetic.
There’s genuinely no reason for this to be a somber, the Fingerprint Stone Shield isn’t somber and is way more special than this thing (not to mention it played a part in how the frenzied flame was summoned).
- Anonymous
Now I know why they call them somber weapons.
Not being able to infuse this with an ash worth its salt (like No Skill) makes ME somber.
- Anonymous
Would be based if it had a special interaction with Aspect of the Crucible: Horns. Even wearing the full set, the crucible spells are fairly lame. Sad.

Its such a disappointing item, really. You expect it to deal Pierce damage, it deals Strike. You expect it to have some fancy Shield Bash, its just a normal bash. You want to replace AoW on it - you can't. You expect it to provide amazing Holy damage negation - its worse at that than Gilded and Golden greatshields that you can get in Limgrave and Liurnia. And then on top of it all, it has about the same amount of Guard Boost as shields made out of bone or wood. The only good things about it are the low STR requirement and weight, but low STR/weight is not something I personally imagine having while going for a build that uses a greatshield. Especially if that same shield locks me out of comfortably using AoW on my primary.

should've had no skill so we could use the crucible knight weapon skills in our main hands

It's a somber weapon if the bash does pierce and affected spear talisman, like what is this???

0/10 doesn't give you the charge uppercut the knights have, into the chest with the rest of them

It's been said to death already but I'll say it again, this shield would be so much cooler if it wasn't stuck with such a garbage ash of war.
- Anonymous
it is weird albeit classic from that the description is almost completely irrelevant

if it has to have an unchangeable shield bash Ash then I wish the shield bash had a unique crucible holy energy effect that does more damage to at least make it more unique.

OK, look. It's got good damage for its weight. The three greatshields that beat it for damage all weigh at least 9.0 more which is a lot. Its stability is also normal for its weight (for a greatshield). Brass Shield has mostly-better blocking stats but worse damage AND worse scaling, so this shield pretty decidedly fits a certain niche of weight budget and desire for shield bash damage. Very similar stats to the spiked palisade shield except for overall slight advantages in stats in exchange for no bleed, but having bleed on your shield seems like it'd only matter if your mainhand weapon also has bleed, so this shield is better if you're bashy but not bleedy. I heard shield bash is pretty strong, being good at staggering and letting you tank through attacks even if you run out of stamina.

A lot of people have wanted to be able to change the skill, but honestly I think shield bash is pretty good. If this had higher damage and the damage type was changed to pierce this would have worked great as a more offensive shield
- Anonymous
not bad but certainly not good, it's functional as a greatshield but unless you're using it for the looks there really are better options in the greatshield category. If I had to suggest some balance changes for it to make it more practical I would:
1. Increase the guard boost (something like 4-10%)
2. Give it a better unique Ash of War or at least make the Ash changeable
3. Increase bash damage and change damage type from standard to pierce to reflect the description about the horn "goring" those it strikes
As it stands it's a visually sound shield but functionally falls behind in actual performance.

Really wish at minimum could change the ash of war to no skill so from block you could use the weapons ash of war
- Anonymous
Definitely should of had that earth stomp the crucible knights love to spam. Would of completed the set( (of course the wings would be way to much even as a incantation)
- Anonymous
Its not amazing but I love using the crucible tree armor so it goes so well with it anyways
- Anonymous
Why does it say physical damage is 147? If the correct value is 123.

I stood in the middle of a window then he flew at me out the window and died

"Potential drop from the Lesser Crucible Knight found after the Rampart Tower bonfire. ", this is plain wrong, datamining confirms that the Crucible Knight in Siofra Aqueduct has this as a guaranteed unique drop on defeat and it cannot possibly drop from any other Crucible Knight in the game
- Anonymous
I like it's aesthetic but that is the only reason to use it, it has less boost than medium shields near half it's weight, not really much better elemental, nothing special about the bash you can't change. If they could just give it one thing. Make it lighter, give it the fancy shield bash the actual knights use, boost its stats, make it customizable etc it would be really nice.
- Anonymous
literally just change the damage type of the entire shield to piercing and this would be amazing
- Anonymous
The shield bash does not cause counter-attack extra damage despite the flavor text about skewering foes.
- Anonymous
It might not be the best shield in the game, but it definitely looks awesome
- Anonymous
Outclassed by any other greatshield really. Dumb how it requires somber stones even though there nothing really special about it.
Nothing to see here, just another greatshield that’s outclassed by the brass shield.
- Anonymous
imagine if the shield's ash of war was just the crucible horn incantation
- Anonymous
Heavily implied this shield does thrust on the shield bash. Will synergize well with crucible aspect incantations if you use your seal in main hand. 26 str requirement is pretty low for a caster to have a great shield that knocks people down and let’s him cast fire breath on wake up. 25 endurance will allow you to wear the crucible armor, shield and sword with the appropriate end game talismans. The elemental defenses leave much to be desired but the purpose is to create space for casters and possible score counter hits during shield bash trades.
- Anonymous
Imagine how cool it would be if the "skewer" effect on shield bashing was a "grab" attack like Inescapable Frenzy. Like, you bash them with the shield, and then hoist your victim over your head before slamming them down or throwing them off.
- Anonymous
This thing is garbage just based on the fact that you can't change the ash alone, not even taking into consideration the paltry guard boost it has in ratio to weight.
- Anonymous
the knight this drops from gave me painful hemorrhoids in my butt trying to fight it
- Anonymous
"Use Fingershield" this, "This shield is underpowered" that. Bro stfu Lord Godfrey has returned and needs our help!
- Anonymous
Does not scale aspect of the crucible incants unlike the armour sadly.
- Anonymous
So the 'Ancient Holiness' dwells within is just flavor text, shield doesn't even do holy damage on a bash. The only difference is that it does Thrust damage instead of Strike when you shield bash, Fingerprint Shield does more base damage and has madness build up. Or use one of the bleed causing bash shields.
- Anonymous
Literally worse stability and damage negation than the brass shield but for double the investment because you want a pierce shield bash.
Basically, only use it if you're part of the crucible knight fan club.
Hopefully from sees that the brass shield is better than most greatshields and they buff all the lesser used greatshields :)

Confirmed not 100% drop from Lesser Crucible Knight on bridge found after 4 belfries warp. Just killed him and only received runes :/
- Anonymous
Technically the "skewering" part does have an in-game effect, it causes a bleeding visual effect the same way a sword hit will when shield bashes on other shields don't. That's it as far as I can tell. Maybe decent for it's weight, but a heavier shield like the fingerprint shield still does more damage with shield bash. Another greatshield with a cool design but got shafted from a gameplay perspective.
- Anonymous
Bad shield: BAd dmg negation compared to Gilded greatshield, Haligtree etc. Apparently does higher shield bash dmg but at +9, level 200+ with a STR/FTH build only does like 688 to a Haligtree soldier.
Not to mention the fp cost and the time it takes to finish the animation. Its a bad shield stat-wise stuck with possibly the worst Shield Ash of war.
- Anonymous
Should have bleed damage as should the crucible knight shoulder charge incantation. Problem with that? Then they shouldn't put words like 'gore' and 'skewer' in the item descriptions.
- Anonymous
Anyone know if the "skewers foes when performing shield bashes" has any special properties/interactions? From playing around with it a bit, doesn't seem to do anything different than a normal shield
