The utility of this in ng+5 and on is so underappreciated its insane. It outperforms almost every other dagger in pure dps when powerstanced with itself or a cold infused dagger Simply because of how flat resistances work in ng+ iterations

      • The best knife for STR/INT builds. Has the highest AR you can get with daggers on a STR/INT build, and it pairs very well with the Royal Greatsword, as it has a crouch r1 (with the Royal GS) into a dagger swipe true combo. A neutral R1 after the dagger swipe will roll catch them unless they roll towards your right. This, however, can be negated by unlocking and swinging towards the right when they roll in that direction. I don't think you can react to them rolling to your right, so prediction will have to do.

The sorcerer's Swiss Army knife. It's not expressly terrible, but you have to squint to see the potential.

          The less than obvious Good:
          - Highest AR of all un-infused daggers, and still #4 in phys alone. The split damage still has a clear focus rather than being a complete 50/50, and a 60/40% damage split with the above-average AR means it'll be at least 'effective' against most enemies, whether they resist physical or magic.
          - Modest requirements and weighs only 2 units, so any build can use it on 7 out of 10 starting classes, without a single level (except Hero, Wretch, and Prophet).
          - With C/D/B scaling, a majority of builds are going to get something decent out of this without specific stat investment, as opposed to a Magic Infusion's E/E/B.
          - Shiny. Decently pretty.

          The fairly obvious Bad:
          - This really should have been either infuseable, or a Somber weapon - my vote's on Somber. If it used somber stones you could at least claim it's an easily upgradable sidearm - but instead it takes the same stones you'd be using for your primary weapons/catalysts. So most people rightfully won't bother.
          - Quickstep isn't a bad skill to be stuck with, but it IS a boring one for something you can't infuse. Glintstone pebble (plus the Somber treatment) would at least feel "not bad".
-While you can technically get it without fighting a single boss, it requires you to run across nearly the entire length of Liurnia just to go pick it up while grabbing the Miner's Bell-bearing. Swapping its place with the Spelldrake talisman (Runebear boss, Earthbore Cave, Weeping Peninsula) would at least have made it considerably more accessible - and in that case, getting the Magic-resistance talisman in Sellia Crystal Tunnel (a region where Magic is the most prominent damage type) would've still been pretty reasonable.

I like this dagger, and it's sorta misunderstood.
But it *does* deserve it. They did you dirty. :(
          A Magic-infused Misericorde is a good alternative.

The best use of this is to pretend it is the little sword that the Claymen use for a cosplay build, you don’t even need to use it, you can just have it in your offhand and use the harpoon in your main hand.

This actually has the highest ar at low level astrologer based builds. A pretty bad niche, but still a niche.

              • It has fairly nice dmg when doing critical after parry. Dont have it upgraded yet, just compared for luls with other daggers I have and yea, not bad.

Just for info, crit after parry has different dmg to for example just backstabbing. At least as far as daggers go.

Here I thought the Cane Sword took the crown for the worst weapon in the game but now I see we have an heir to the throne

                  • Anonymous

literally the only thing this is good for is powerstancing with the glintstone kris. other than that it's just bad :/

To me, the fact that this exists in the same game as Reduvia and the Black Knife is insane. I ended up running this on a 99 int build purely out of spite for how terrible FS made it. No, it didn't magically start working after a point -- it's an awful weapon, and its only saving grace is how innately good Quickstep is in PvE. Huge waste of an incredibly cool looking weapon.

                      • Anonymous

Fun fact: This weapon along with Black Knife have the highest damage numbers for daggers, however they aren't raw damage. Best raw would be Misericorde which also has the highest crit of all daggers! Black Knife has the highest combined number of holy and phys (with a cool WA) Crystal dagger comes close, followed by glintstone kris.

Pretty high damage on a str/int build, it's just... why would you need a dagger with weak crits on the same build that you have a 950 AR colossal sword

                          • Anonymous

While its not a good weapon if you do want to make it work you can. I've used it offhand on my strength/int build with a halberd. It gets pretty high ar compared to other daggers making it a decent offhand option.

                            • Anonymous

So many questions. Why better strength scaling than dex, on a dagger? Why regular smith stones and not somber on an Int-scaling weapon? Why can't I put AoW on it if it's regular smithing? Bug? Feature?

Fromsoft could’ve at least made this trash weapon unique or neat lore wise. Like make it a somber weapon and give it an ash that is like one of the stone digger sorceries. An ash like a milder version of the rock blaster sorcery where you can continuously drill and then slam it into the ground to create small aoe. Or maybe you can just continually drill or maybe you can just create the aoe. Literally anything other than what it is what’ve given it a redeeming quality.

                                • Anonymous

Could’ve had a half decent weapon skill, like Carian Greatsword or something.

Instead it’s outclassed in every way by other daggers.

                                  • Anonymous

I think I'm more upset by the item description than I am on the weapon's actual (subpar) performance.

"Signature weapon of the Glintstone Miners." Not a single miner uses this weapon. Not one.

It could have at least received a more interesting skill than Quickstep...

                                    • Anonymous

What a great idea! Let's make a caster dagger that can't do any sort of magic in any way! Genius! While we're at it lets nerf its crit so now it's just an overdressed short sword with no redeeming value whatsoever!

What a waste of a model.

                                      • Best case usage I can see for this weapon is offhand use for a str/int spell-hammer, but honestly carian slicer fills that niche with far better range and damage... so uhh fashion souls I guess?

All I wanted to do was put chilling mist on it since it didn't upgrade with somber stones and didn't have a unique skill BUT NO I GUESS NOT. Why? Because that would make sense, that's why. SMH why do they do this kind of BS. It doesn't even have a higher crit damage like almost every other dagger.

                                            • Anonymous

It's so stupid they don't allow you to change ash of war on this thing. I play PC so I can enable it, and I can't bind it with cold or magic. Why? Cause you have to created separate paraams to make other whetstones work. So having it set up how I set it up is as easy as changing a 0 to a 2, and instantly the weapon becomes less useless.

                                              • The point of this weapon is to be a simple secondary weapon for a powerstance build, that wishes to add magic damage to the L1.

Equip in your left hand and use the AoW of your right hand weapon. That's why it has no crit bonus and unchangeable AoW.

My guess is, that there is a point in stat distribution, whee this dagger outshines any other in terms of raw damage.

Worthless. No critical increase, no ash availability. Just get a nornal dagger, make it magic weapon with whatever ash you want and you get a better version of this.

                                                  • Anonymous

Almost a desirable weapon, however other daggers are better. FromSoft should've sweetened the pot a little and at least given this dagger effective crit.

                                                    • Anonymous

Is it supposed to be stronger against crystal enemies or make it more likely to gain crystals and stones from said enemies? That is what the description of the weapon implies at least and it is found right before a crystal boss.

                                                      • Anonymous

This thing should get a perk like Blessed Dew or the Icon Shield. Minute but passive FP gain just for having it equipped. It'd fit the description and a passive FP gain item would not break anything.

                                                        • Anonymous

Can't be infused or buffed with magic...why? There's nothing special about it. Why the **** would this have such a restriction when Erdsteel/Misericorde/etc dont?

                                                          • Anonymous

As it stands, this dagger isn't very good, but, damn, that model looks cool. It's true, Int-scaling Misericorde is far superior for criticals and not being able to infuse it is a huge downer (although quick step is a very solid Weapon art). Given that it's billed as a caster's dagger, they could rework it so that it has a slightly better critical modifier (even 120 would be sweet, but even 110 would be nice) and it gives you FP every time you land one (like 20 or so) that way I would want to use it on my Sorcerer. The beauty of Souls games is there is so many niches to fill: give this dagger that niche!

                                                            • Anonymous

It's number 1 since it's best offhand dagger. It'll compliment either Misericord or reduvia. If you do more back stabbing Misericord, if you're going in and attacking norm reduvia for fast bleed and dmg.

                                                              • Seems kind of weak considering the 100 boost to criticals. The Misericord from Godrics castle has 140 to crit and you can make it scale with intelligence with Ashes of War.
