Crystal Sword is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring. The Crystal Sword scales primarily with Intelligence, Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for dealing additional Magic Damage complemented by the Spinning Slash Skill that allows the user to spin and deal a follow up attack..
Sword fashioned from pure crystal; a deed impossible for a human. Enwreathed with powerful magic, its attack scales with intelligence. The inscrutable Crystalians have but one clear purpose; to safeguard their crystals unto the end. One theory posits that they yearn for the return of their creator who will carve for them new brethren.

A solid early game magic sword that's easy to get and upgrade because of using somber stones.
Unfortunately it will become outclassed even as a strength/int weapon by generic straight swords, and while the weapon art is solid it can be placed on any other generic straight swords.
Potentially funny early powerstanced with Carian Knight Sword, a sword with largely the same upsides and downsides.
- Anonymous
Mojang and Microsoft would clearly be sad to see how this weapon is so bad.
Miyazaki hates Minecraft for sure...
- Anonymous
It's sad that the crystal weapons can't be infused. Given how the dlc is literally like "Hey, here's a holy based weapon that does more holy if you infuse it with holy, the same mechanic could have been applied to a crystal weapon amplifying a magic infusion.

Ingredients to make this weapon good:
- 4 Diamonds
- 1 Stick
- 4 Obsidian Blocks
- 1 Book
Now you make the next step:
1 - Put 1 (one) Diamond on the top middle pad, another 1 (one) Diamond right below that 1 (one) Diamond you did. And finally, put 1 (one) Stick right below the second (2nd) Diamond.
2 - Put 1 (one) Book on the top middle pad, 1 (one) Obsidian Block right below the Book, put 1 (one) Diamond each sides of that Obsidian Block, and put the rest of the Obsidian Blocks on the lower 3 (three) pads.
3 - Put that thing you made with Obsidian Blocks in a room full of Books, probabbly close to those book shealves in Round Table.
4 - Put the Diamond Sword on the Table.
5 - Select: Umbreaking Infinite, Magic Aspect I, Spinning Slash V, Sharpness X, Mending X.
6 - Go to a smith and upgrade it until where you can.
7 - You're clear to go.

Who thought that a Diamond Sword would be so bad in a game...
At least, it has Unbreaking XX as default enchantment!
If only I could put Fire III, Swift Slash II, Sharpness III and Bane of Anthropods...

tbf the WA 4 this weapon could be more interesting but i guess that's FromSoft 4 u :/

"I'm not actually sure it is a sword. More of a letter opener really."

Crystal spells: Needs high intelligence
Crystal sword: Scales better with strength
Why is this game like thissssss
- Anonymous
I feel like having some weapon art inspired by the crystal golems from Dark Souls 1 could be a nice callback; y'know, maybe having a small band of crystals appear at your feet as you do the spin slash that does a little bit of stagger with some magic damage, then shatter. Already referenced the White Dragon Breath kinda with Hoarfrost Stomp, so it's not out of the question. As this weapon is now, it isn't my favorite - not like it has to be - but it feels... Boring. I want there to be some kind of flare with this thing, but it's just a rock that wants to be a sword with some interesting lore about crystal people stolen from fighting fantasy. Not offensive or anything, but.... Bland.

Honestly if you could just put Grease on it or cast Magic Weapon on it, I’d be very happy. Even with the weird scaling. The fact you can’t even put magic grease on it is disappointing.
- Anonymous
I wish it was the magic version of coded sword. after all, it's like hitting people with a handheld glintstone pebble.
- Anonymous
They absolutely scuffed this sword. Doesn’t scale well with INT at all. Has a boring weapon art. Is supposedly Crystallian even though it doesn’t even look 10% as cool as the staff.
- Anonymous
After replacing the meteor katana with this, I'm quite the fan of this weapon.
It feels like int weapons in particular have a lot of "unique" weapons that are just bog standard with the caveat of not being able to take it off of magic affinity or change the weapon art to something more interesting.
- Anonymous
Should get better dex scaling than strength, who tf two hands a str8 sword
- Anonymous
Something I haven't seen pointed out: this is the strongest straight sword with a 50/50 Quality build (assuming minimum INT requirement), at 645 AR.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Should have fired a magic wave (like DMGS) every spin slash
- Anonymous
This weapon should have been infuseable while the rot version could be the somber counterpart, that way this one can have innate magic damage, scaling and variety. It looks too cool to be this basic
- Anonymous
Gotta love it when they make a weapon redundant by slapping it with an element / shitty weapon art and prevent you from making a creative build for it.
- Anonymous
Imagine being able to switch weapon movesets between weapons of the same class , or even better yet , make your own moveset for some actual personalization.
Who am I kidding , we're talking about From Software here...
- Anonymous
This weapon is very special, so you'll need to get 10 stones to upgrade it rather than the usual 97. We're also going to give it a generic mediocre weapon art and lock it because this weapon is too special for useless traits like "versatility".
Why is it so special? It does this crazy rare damage type that you can only get on literally every "mundane" weapon!
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
And we would use this over literally any other Magic-infused straight sword why?...
- Anonymous
good for dual wielding straight sword build, equip on left hand of course
- Anonymous
ah yes, spinning slash, my favorite somber weapon skill. imagine if you could use this skill on other weapons it'd be busted
- Anonymous
One of those weapons that makes me wish parts of the game were more Bloodborne than Dark Souls. I'll gladly take a smaller pool of weapons if each is allowed to be more unique -- at least have families of weapons (Crystalian, Vulgar Militia, etc.) that share unique traits. Spells & Incantations get it right, so it's not a stretch to imagine melee weapons getting it right.
- Anonymous
I hate how crystalian sorceries require high intelligence, but the crystal weapons dont even scale well with it. Just make it possible to run a themed build at reasonable efficiency!
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Yet another int weapon with... nothing special, lmao I praise the abundance but stuff like this is just bland, could've had a different moveset at the very least
- Anonymous
The crystal weapons were possibly intended for low-level PVP, but the game has evolved too fast that your well-off using throwing pots.
- Anonymous
these stupid crystal weapons would have been so good if they scaled physical damage to int, like how the erdsteel dagger does to faith.
- Anonymous
giving it access to ashes of war would just make it so much more fun to use, I feel like it's only fashion souls that I'd use it for right now over other swords
- Anonymous
They could at least have given weapons like this an ash of war the weapon class usually doesnt have access too.

This thing has high base AR, split damage in a useful way (aka its high overall damage plus split damage means it’s strongly versatile vs both physically resistant and magic resistant targets), and half decent strength scaling. I think the Carian Knight Sword is the most standout “actually good” of the Somberstone magic swords (on a build with only about 20 int and more of a focus on Strength and also vit/end durability) but I think this is the best offhand to pair with it if you want something to dual wield. For reference, the Carian Knight Sword at +5 on a character that’s about level 55 (I forget exactly) is totally able to satisfactorily clobber both miners/imp/skeletons and Rennala. Not sure about Glintstone Miners specifically but it can’t be that bad given how good the overall AR of these magic somber weapons feels. On the character I’m messing with these weapons with I feel like I’ll be able to get to the endgame at a much lower RL than usual because of how potent the high base AR feels, and the convenient split damage works out favorably in really nice ways.

This along with the other crystal weapons should have gotten the unique heavy of the Carian Knight sword and Lazuli Sword along with high guard boost and defense. Makes sense considering they're based off of the enemies with the highest resistance to damage in the game.
- Anonymous
I would love this swords look if it didn’t glow. Like that solid Carian Blue in the item depiction looks great.
- Anonymous
I would like it if this was like the cinquedea but for crystal spells
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The best weapon of all time, it even killed morgott (i didnt even kill a demigod) when i first equipped the weapon which shows how op this weapon is
- Anonymous
decent 3-way scaling makes this a good choice for higher level builds
- Anonymous
In pvp this is good for overcoming barrier of gold on a pure mage, but in general pvp, it will fail to overcome the resistances of str builds. For this reason I actually recommend the rotten version since the ash applies rot very quickly and every bit matters when fighting a str build or any build with barrier of gold.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
would be nice if it passively buffed crystal spells like how the beast clergyman knife buffs beast spells
- Anonymous
Would have been cool if the crystal weapons were pure physical that scaled with intelligence so int builds could do a damage type besides magic
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
was happy when I first got this sword for my then strength/intelligence build at the time, then completely disappointed at how useless it is
- Anonymous
Do you wanna make a shard bearer-cosplay? Combine this with the crystal spear and lets go.
- Anonymous
I wish the spin slash added range similar to the pkcs spin slash where it had a magic blade extend out of the slash
Why would anyone use this over the carian sword? Plus this looks like ass
- Anonymous
I wish crystal weapons were more unique. Like maybe crystal weapons could ignore some of enemies' defense and negation, which would make it useful against strength builds and heavy armor
- Anonymous
They could have just given it square off and it would have been perfect. No one would even want to change it.
- Anonymous
perfect early game weapon for my steve playthrough, upgrading to the rotten one as it looks like it's enchanted
- Anonymous
What, exactly, is powerstancing a weapon? I'd always assumed it was twohanding it.
- Anonymous
Ash of war should be the the sorcery "Shattering Crystal"
Give the same to it's counterpart the Rotten one
- Anonymous
completely outclassed by the monveil, even post nerf (it's still really good)
- Anonymous
Oddly enough this is probably the 2nd best straight sword for Str Builds. I did some math with 50 Str and bare minimum stats for wielding (aka: if sword needs 16 Dex, I have 16 Dex) with all S.Swords and this and the Broadsword were the ones that came out top. There are others that work ''fine'' but in general: Broadsword for pure physical, Crystal Sword for Str/Int. Again, for Strenght builds.
- Anonymous
Only reason you'd want to wield this weapon is for dual-wielding with the Carian Knight's sword. Otherwise it might as well not exist.
- Anonymous
Finally got my intelligence to 15 to use this cause it looked so cool...only for it to not even be able to use ashes of war. I could've used the straight sword I started with and even then could've used strong ashes with it and it would've been better
- Anonymous
If you like this weapon, it is best used powerstanced in the offhand with Carian Knight's Sword. As they share the same scaling but this has higher damage. you also get the good ash of war from the carian sword
- Anonymous
Shame how none of these magic swords scale better with dex than strength, given that you want dex to boost casting speed.
- Anonymous
I'm so confused as to why so many weapons with innate magic infusions have such poor Intelligence scaling.
- Anonymous
If only its weapon skill was Spell-Casting instead of a generic Spinning-Slash. Would've rose this cool looking sword to the top. Equipped for a Battlemage that'd make Master Hughes proud.

why da hell d intelligence scaling? man i needed this for lusat drip
- Anonymous
Could this be effective against hardened enemies?
Trying to find a reason to use it, besides looking pretty cool.
- Anonymous
50str 50int and this sword goes nuts with over 650 AR - best used as off hand dual wield with a main hand straight sword that has a good weapon skill like the lazuli (which is also strong af tho)
- Anonymous
Works best if you dual wield it with any other straight sword (atleast for mid to late game bosses) Decent reach, nice damage and attacks are super fast so bosses will rarely punish you while attacking.
- Anonymous
C scaling with strength and D scaling with intelligence, I'm confused...
- Anonymous
Map location is way off. Might need to update the coordinates to have it in the correct location.
- Anonymous
Cool sword with decent damage output, but it's shame it isn't a pure magic damage sword like how the coded sword is pure Holy. Let's just hope they add pure magic or fire weapons in a DLC.
- Anonymous
Welcome to the stage of history, re- Wait a minute, wrong Bandai-Namco game.
- Anonymous
I use this in my left hand alongside the carian sword. Don't really care that the scaling isn't great, still looks cool
- Anonymous
good weapon better than the rotten variant (lower dps but scralet rot build up) not as good as carian sword
- Anonymous
Worse version of the carian Knight Sword, the base damage is lower by 5 AR lol
Pretty sure it also has worse range. the rotten version of it might be better tho
- Anonymous
This sword lowkey reminds me of the Infinity Blade from Infinity Blade mobile game series. Good times
- Anonymous
IDC about the scaling. The sword looks too cool to not look. It sucks that the worst looking weapons have the bst scaling whereas the best looking ones have rly bad stats.
- Anonymous
Keep an eye out for Carian Knight's sword as an alternative to this, better damage/scaling and lower str requirement.
- Anonymous
Cool as it may look, this sword scales very poorly with Dex and not particularly great with Int, personally i wouldnt upgrade it past 2 (you can buy unlimited sombering shards 1 and 2 pretty early on so its inconsequential to use those)
- Anonymous
There's also a rotten version of this sword that applies scarlet rot. Where to get it? I have no idea, can't remember, but I got it so I know it exists!
- Anonymous
decided to use this as my backup weapon for my sorcery build and it has become one of the best weapons i have. it has saved me more times than i can count. you will not be remiss if you use this
- Anonymous
is worth it upgrade the intel to the samurai just to play with this sword?
- Anonymous
is this not parryable? did the mimic tear bossfight and neither me or the mimic parried a single attack despite going for many. bad timing, bug or op weapon?
- Anonymous
At +10 the scaling is C for strength, E for Dex and D for Int
- Anonymous
...why is this the best straight sword ? Just got it and I don't see anything that special about it. It's very pretty, but the reach is fairly short, the weapon art has nothing unique either outside of being a curved sword WA but on a straight sword... does it has some insane strength and intelligence scaling or something ?

If you play Astrologer this sword slaps early, especially considering you can go straight to it from the start.
Minecrafters. Fear not.
This isn't a Diamond Sword.
It's a CRYSTAL SWORD.
So it all explain why this thing is weak. It's not Diamond.
