Crystalians are a Field Boss in Elden Ring. Crystalians are humanoids opponents made of crystals. They are encountered in different locations with varying weapon configurations but the one thing they share is their extremely tough crystal bodies. These are optional bosses as players are not required to defeat them to advance in Elden Ring.
Putrid Crystalians is a variant of this boss that inflicts Scarlet Rot. Lesser Crystalian is the normal enemy form of this boss. The spirit of a Crystalian can be summoned for aid in battle using the Crystalian Ashes.
The Crystalians are inorganic beings, yet they live. They cleave close to the ideals of the primeval current, and as such, they are revered guests of the sorcerers..

Crystalian Combat information
- Stance: 70
- Parryable: Yes
- Is vulnerable to a critical hit after being stance broken or parried
- Is vulnerable to a backstab critical
- Before being stance broken, has an extra 90% negation for all damage types except Strike and has Tier 2 hardness
- Once its stance has been broken at least once, all attacks will cause it to stagger
- Damage:
Standard (Ringblade),
Standard,
Pierce (Spear),
Strike,
Magic (Staff)
Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Elden Ring Crystalian Boss Guide
Crystalian Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Crystalian:
- Focus on getting a stance break on one, after which it will have much lower defense and will stagger easily.
- Jump attacks and guard counters inflict lots of stance damage, especially with larger weapons.
- Two hits of Flame of the Redmanes will break its stance immediately
- Dragonmaw and Rock Sling are great spells for doing stance damage
- Unblockable Blade from Cipher Pata can break poise with the second hit.
- Use Greatshield Soldier Ashes for fights with multiple Crystalians to distract and separate them, given that they're almost impossible to kill.
- Use Night Maiden's Mist, as Crystalians generally move slowly and often stick together in group fights.
Melee Strategy
Crack ‘em: Your first priority when fighting Crystalians should always be breaking their stance. Once you do so once, killing them becomes much easier: not only will they take more damage, any attack will cause them to stagger, so if you keep attacking they'll never get a hit in edgewise unless you run out of stamina. Focus on guard counters and jumping heavy attacks, as they don't have many good windows for charged heavy attacks. You can also move around Ringblade or Staff variants to get backstabs, and charge a heavy attack as they return to their feet.
Avoid the Pointy End: The Spear variant is usually the most difficult for melee builds. It has a lot of reach, is hard to backstab, and can cover ground quickly enough to pose a major annoyance in group fights. You can take advantage of its simple brain, though: it will always try to cover ground with Hopping Stab when you're far enough away, and it will do exactly three or five Hopping Stabs before finishing off with either an extra-tall Hopping Stab or a Hopping Swing. Count its attacks, watch for this final one, and get in a jump attack afterwards. Then back far enough away to coax it into another round of Hopping Stabs and repeat the process until you break its stance and can stun-lock it to death.
Magic and Ranged Strategy
Keep Your Focus: Going one-on-one with a Crystalian should be easy for a magic user since their ranged attacks are limited and easy to dodge, but group fights will likely pose more of a problem. Breaking their stance is the most important thing, so it's a good idea to choose one and focus all your attacks on it rather than switching between them. Once you break its stance, it should be easy enough to kill it before moving on to your next victim.

Once they're susceptible to being knocked back, it's kinda funny to stand in a corner and just take turns flinging them across the room with a great bow. Their determination as they get back up yet again is great.

You can just use morningstar, an early game weapon which all characters can use by two handing, and beat at least the one that drops the regular stone bell bearing one easily
- Anonymous
The beyblade one has to be one of the most useless enemies in the entire game. It's actually kind of sad to kill it. The other variants at least apply the slightest bit of pressure.
These are definitely enemies designed to be a gank boss. Simple, easy to avoid, but when there's multiple the windows become a lot tighter. Gavel of Haima absolutely obliterates them. Three hits to break poise.

There is only one thing I find difficult about them. I go to do a jump attack on one. Inexplicably, my target lock switches from the one directly in front of me that I am jumping towards to another one off to the side and I miss my target and get hit. Thanks a lot.
Shattered these things to pieces with my great hammer, strength build. Child's play.

It's enemies like these where the pumpkin ashes truly shine, they're immune to bleed so he won't freak out and his weapon deals strike damage

HUGE just discovered a great way to deal with breaking their stance. They take extra poise damage from Strike weapons, and using Lion's Claw or Stamp: Upward Strike twice using any Hammer type weapon both stunlocks them and breaks their poise.
Personal recommendation: Upward Strike (from Knight Bernahl) on a Warpick (common weapon, lightweight and low requirements) trivializes any fight with these, and makes fighting multiple much easier

its sad how much the crystallian gank bosses got nerfed, they were actually kinda fun

it's hilarious how this boss can be so baffling the first couple times you fight them, but then becomes one of the easiest bosses in the game.
personally i just like to jump attack them 3-5 times until you get a poise break. doesn't take much effort, doesn't require changing your weapons or anything at all. with my stats i find switching to strike weapons makes the fight still rather tedious because i am often waiting for my stamina bar to refill (which can mean no jumping, rolling, running). their lack of aggression, super telegraphed attacks, and easy staggering after the poise break just makes them kind of a joke to fight.
honestly, for most melee/hybrid builds, jump attacks are good against almost every boss. they're a good way to remain mobile during a fight, while covering ground and getting in a quick, high damage attack between enemy attacks. and they do a load of poise damage, often with less cooldown than running attacks or whatnot. i didn't really use jump attacks until i got to malenia and radagon and such, and on my 2nd playthrough (another ng, not ng+, wanted to go for a totally different build with a different starting class) i started using them against most bosses, and found the game much easier.

Ive never been more suprised than when i did a jumping attack against one of these goobers on my fist weapon build and he just died and exploded instantly
Took me a while to work out how to keep 2 of them occupied while I used a claymore with lightning +17 to smash the 3rd. Use your rot boluses as needed. I equipped the Cleanrot spear in my left hand and the Mottled Necklace to up my resistance. Then two handed the Claymore.
Using a group spirit summons like Greatshield Solders helps to keep two bosses occupied but toss some warming stones at them when you can to keep them alive. Then grab the 3rd boss and swing away to break poise constantly and beat the tar out of it. Go for the second boss, tossing another warming stone on your spirit if you can, swing away, rinse and repeat with warming stones, bolus, etc. but keep swinging to keep that poise broken. Success!

Did they nerf the putrid trio ? I just fought them and it was a joke, they were too passive.

If you’re able to use Fingerprint Shield you can use your Shield Bash skill to bypass having to break poise at all. Unsure if this works with all shields or not, but I’m dealing like 700+ damage pre poise break

If you don't know yet, summon the skeleton militiaman duo and one will simply revive while the other takes the hit. Trivializes the spear one, while i took an unforged halberd to kill the staff user first, since it poses less problems if you dont let it cast any magic.

if you dont have any strike weapons, try 2 handing your shield. more effective than you'd think

Crucible Tail supposedly does strike damage, but it does practically nothing to them. It's very confusing. Anyone know why?
- Anonymous
Flame of the Redmanes makes these fights incredibly easy. Like I just did the putrid trio, and it only takes two casts to stance-break them, and they're so slow that after you critical-hit them and they slowly get up, you can cast it twice before they even have time to attack. Also each attack interrupts them.
- Anonymous
Just a tip but if you have any colossal striking weapons I'd recommend using those. I only had an unleveled Great Club (found in Old Altus tunnels from the boss) and it was already leagues better than most of my other weapons.
I wanna say that it only took 2 power attacks and they'd poise break very quickly, and since they seem to stagger from strike weapons you could basically use your summon to keep them busy while you lock another in a stagger loop for those easy critical hits. Also always take out the magic staff guy first, he'll shoot crystals at the worst of times and can be difficult to dodge because of how they spread out. Keep your distance if possible since some of his attacks will only reach so far.
- Anonymous
As a mage, I finally used the 'Gavel of Haima' spell to hammer them into the ground (it completely broke their poise). A couple of hits each allowed for a crit. If two were in the vicinity they were both knocked to the ground. Glintstone pebble, shard, star shower, and rock sling seemed to take too long. Much praise for the 'Gavel of Haima'.
- Anonymous
There's also a duo non-boss fight just south west of the Folly on the Lake site of grace.

Did they remove the trio's AI? I know they tweaked it but as it stands, the fight is incredibly easy. It doesn't feel like a 3v1 now since the crystallians pretty much let you beat on them and pick them off one by one. I think I got hit once through the whole fight and I used a +0 morning star with 20 strength. It was prett disappointing. I wanted them to be a bit more manageable for solo but I didn't want them to be turned into a total joke.
- Anonymous
Not sure if it is posted, Redmane Knight Ohga (106 FP) is the perfect summon for the duo/trio boss fight his great bow always knocks them back making it easier to 1v1 or 1v2. I watched him defeat (while lvl1) the staff crystalian through repeated knockdown/staggers. Hope this helps anyone if there struggling.

can anyone confirm that this wiki page is correct in saying spirit summons are allowed in the boss room? four maybe five different dungeons where the wiki says to use spirit summons to help with the boss, but when I cross the fog-gate I am unable to summon any spirit ash. Obviously I wouldn't be asking if it was because I didn't have enough FP to summons, If I buff myself or my weapon right outside the boss gate the last thing I do before crossing the fog.
Does having the furlcalling finger remedy active? that's the only thing I can think off unless From changed summons being available in certain dungeons in the last update and these wiki boss pages have not been adjusted accordingly.

Ok, so I did it twice with the meteoric sword. After testing, I did a jump slash which basically cracks them, then basically the ash of war or really any strike does damage after you stagger them
- Anonymous
I really wish we got the ringblade as a weapon. Yeah, it’s a bit iffy on what kind of weapon it would be, but I think it’s funny to smack people around with a magic disc
- Anonymous
Are we sure they are weak to strike AND standard damage? Could've sworn I used a colossal sword that did little damage after switching to a flail that fared far better.
- Anonymous
If you don’t have a weapon that can deal strike damage, don’t worry; any large weapon will deal serious poise damage as long as you can land some strong hits, and for that I recommend a Great Spear and Greatshield. Using a Treespear +12 and a Golden Beast Crest Shield +12 I was able to chain criticals on the Putrid Crystalian trio by getting stance breaks. I utilized the greatshield to block the aggressive spearman and proceeded to destroy his poise utilizing Treespear’s charged heavy attacks as well as working off of guard counters.
Why only three of them in Sellia Hideaway? How about eight of them? I mean, why not? How many can we fit in that room? Can we put twenty in there at one time?

Are they weak to fire? My axe did no damage, then my fire infused shredded him

Using a +12 warpick shreds and staggers pretty easily, don't know i its common but on thr putrid trio, spirit ashes distracted one, I fought another and the third just stayed motionless for a solid 45-60 seconds with me pasting right next it and striking the previously mentioned one. Don't know if its a bug or if their programming is only set to have two fighting at any given time.
- Anonymous
Black flame shredded the trio. After a few hits they lost their armor.
- Anonymous
I used Grafted Dragon to strike them. Its skill is useful to dodge spear. And jump R2 easily breaks them poise.
And once their poise are broken, just continuously R1 them, they cannot react.

I just beat the single one in Liurnia, I was ready for a pain in the ars* boss fight, But I have Great Stars and I've been messing about with it just to see, its +12, I used the physik combo that gives a stamina boost and enhances charge attacks, I buffed my attack and defence with the golden vow incantation and my attack with the exalted flesh and I buffed the great stars with bloodflame cos I couldn't see how it could hurt any.
After doing all that and preparing myself, the boss was done for after only 3 or 4 hits, I don't know if these things have a weakness to strike weapons or what but I was left feeling disappointed that I'd killed a boss as if it was a Godrick soldier. I haven't tried the ones that inflict rot yet, but what I can say for absolute sure, even if your build isn't set up for dealing a load of physical damage to this sort of boss, the barricade shield you get for killing the nights cavalry in the weeping peninsula was top tier for blocking that disc thing it shoots out at you.
My next plan is to see if barricade shield is any use for blocking the nightmare weapons the iron virgins launch all over the place.

Just summon a spirit ash to distract one of them. Use the spell on the other and walk in a circle, keeping the boss in the center within the mist. Once it dies, repeat spell with other boss.

I love how they were proud enough to reuse the rot trio crystalian fight at the Haligtree. When I fought them the first time I was definitely thinking how they needed to triple the health, stick them in a cramped, dark room, and make sure they hit for at least 1000 damage on every attack. Oh and just to make things more fun, place some revevants outside the room. I'm fully convinced that Fromsoft is pranking the player with that encounter. All it's missing is a runebear.

I can never get over their hair/helmet shape on their heads. It looks like a messed up bob cut, I cant take them seriously with it lol.

Did anyone notice that the smaller crystal ring/frisbee can be caught? The first time I fought the solo crystalian, I could not do it any damage unless there was a crystal ring stuck on my sword arm. I am not certain if getting hit by the ring was how I did it but I believe that this is how the crystalians are meant to be beaten without relying on constant backstabs or attacks with blunt weapons. I'm at the cave with the three crystalians and tried to replicate the strategy but to no luck until now.

I feel like the 1.04 patch made the rot trio much more bearable. They're much less aggressive, the mage starts doing the continuous beam only when alone and crystalians generally are much more prone to knockback even when their crystal armor isn't shattered.
I tried Radagon's Rings of Light (charged) and Blasphemous Blade's Taker's Flames, they both knock them down and have enough poise to go through a few of their hits except a single spell (the crystal shard fan attack).

they should probably just fire whoever designed these guys. they bring nothing to the game. they are not difficult. they are not complex. they are not even interesting. they are just tiresome.

Does anyone know if the spells Rock Blaster and Shatter Earth have any unusual affect on these guys?

Stonebarb Cracked Tear + Flame of the Redmanes
I spent hours infuriated on the trio trying to figure out how the armor break was determined, if it was a number of hits, amount of damage, etc. Tried riposte spam with Misericorde, tried 2h hookclaws, nothing was working.
Went and killed the avatar, put the Stonebarb tear on my physick, came back and one shot them. Flame of the Redmanes broke the ring and spear crystalline in two hits.

For the Sellia Hideaway and as a very squishy faith build, I had a lot of success with Aspect of the Crucible: Tail. I managed to knock down 2-3 at a time and eventually lightning spear em down one by one while my Headless friend took the agro from spear jerk.

The putrid trio is the most embarassing thing From Software has ever put off. And the reward wasn't even great.

Love the mechanic of "soften them up" as it teaches you the importance of breaking/managing poise. But fighting the trio (or even sometimes duo in small arenas) make it pretty obvious that these guys are not meant to be taken on all at once like that because their attacks- unlike Ornstein and Smough; don't coordinate very well with each other.
Really can't help but feel that Fromsoft bit more than they can chew; as they're struggle to come up with bosses and enemies to fill their (in all honesty) MASSIVE and GORGEOUS open-world, and resorted to "cheap" way of making bosses and then forgot or don't bother playtest them very well.

The Scarlet Rot Trio is 100% a joke/a troll attempt. There is absolutely no other way with how bullshit the fight is and how little you get for defeating them.

The gravity stone fan and chunk consumable absolutely destroys these guys.

scarlet rot version is one of the hardest bosses yet it gives only 7100 souls lmao crapsoft is at it again

For any Sorcerers having trouble with these guys. Gavel of Haima + any phalanx spell does great damage to their armor! I have also heard that Night Maiden's Mist does good damage to them but I haven't tested that yet.

When I see them I can only think of one thing: annoying as ****

Powerstancing any strike fist like caestus, spiked caetus, iron balls, etc is perfect for fighting these. Throw on Endure or Bloodhound Step ashe of war and you are good.

For the crystalian trio fight, the zweihander seems to help a lot. Probably, other colossal and great weapons too but for me the zweihander worked pretty good, even in ng+2. The horizontal swipe is a great move and you can hopefully catch all three sometimes and it will take just a few hits to break them and make them like regular enemies. Having a tanky summon also helps tremendously. Have to agree though, this boss is really awful.

oh thankyou envoy's long horn for helpingme kill the trio of pain

the spearman are the equivalent of that obnoxius punk who thinks hes a badass because he spams a single totally broken move. sure you can beat it with skill and patience, but miss it once and you’ll spend the next ten minutes listening to the little mongrel gloat. stupid enemy.

The Rotten Crystal Sword (+9 or +10) with a decent stamina to spare makes each encounter trivial. Simply use the WA, rinse and repeat.

I consider myself a Souls veteran. I've beaten every previous Souls game. I played the Chinese version of Demon's Souls before there was a NA release. I have explored every area and defeated every optional boss.
And the putrid trio is, without question, the worst boss with the worst mechanics of any in the entire series. Infuriating, unbalanced, and broken. And the reward isn't even useful to anyone. Truly spectacular trolling from a man who has dedicated his life to trolling the people who buy his games.

I don't understand how the **** you're meant to fight the crystalian spears when they spam their jumping stab, there's NO opportunity to hit them especially in pairs

Cheese to the tri-brigade: Like many bosses who are spawned close to the fog gate before passing through, you can cast rock sling and hit the spellcaster (and possibly more with talismans). Break the armor and/or kill one+ before actually starting the fight.

you can spam blaidds royal greatsword weapon art like 4/5 times and it break them. The AOE also helps alot with pushing the others back as it causes knockdown- if your in a fight with more than 1

the haligtree trio is the worst. theres no space and theres 2 spear ones so they just endlessly point you to death

Falling Star Jaw wrecks these guys. Fast and Easy ranged attack that keeps them staggered.
Alternately Parrying them leaves them open for a crit.

These things were neat to fight, it's even better you get one for yourself

These guys are "No Fun Allowed: The Boss" you have to completely change your loadout and build style just to do some damage.
Easy mode engage.
Cannon of Haima to the face once, then slap them silly with DMGS. Great shield soldier ashes will easily pull and hold aggro on the other one(s), while you TCB.
(Yes, I suck at video games)
