Elden Ring DLC News

  • The Steam data tracker website, SteamDB, has recently listed “Unknown App 2778580” under the DLC section for Elden Ring, marking its first update for 15 months. This leads some to believe Elden Ring’s first major expansion Shadow of the Erdtree is coming soon - Often when there is a change in the backend of a Steam listing, it means there could be something coming soon. As the listing is on the downloadable content page, this could be referring to Elden Ring’s highly anticipated expansion Shadow of the Erdtree.
  • The upcoming Elden Ring Expansion DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, was not featured at Summer Games Fest 2023. FromSoftware promoted Armored Core 6 instead.
  • Updates to the SteamDB entries of Elden Ring on February 7th 2023 were speculated to mean the imminent reveal of upcoming DLC. This was expected to happen on the Anniversary Event, to be hosted on February 25th 2023, but instead turned out being revealed on February 28th 2023

DLC & Expansion FAQ

How much will the Elden Ring DLC cost and where can we buy it?

The game will be available for purchase on the same platforms as the base game, which includes PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. It is also possible that the DLC may be included in a season pass or special edition of the game, so keep an eye out for any announcements from the developers. Since Shadow of the Erdtree is expected to be a fully-fledged expansion, it is more expensive than traditional DLC, costing 32 USD for the base game and 40 USD for the Premium Bundle.

When can we expect the Elden Ring DLC release date?

After a long wait fans now know that the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be releasing on June 21st 2024, and will cost USD 39.99. Like the games first version when it released From Software is also releasing a physical Collector's Edition for Shadow of the Erdtree, which contains a Shadow of the Erdtree Voucher Code, the Official Soundtrack, a 40 Page Hard-Cover Artbook, a 46-cm statue of Messmer the Impaler and the Physical Collector's Edition for 249.99 USD.

Will there be new weapons, armor, and spells in the Elden Ring Expansion?

To the delight of fans all over the world, the game director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has confirmed as much as eight new and exciting Weapon types that will be available with the new DLC. In the trailer they also showed many new Armors, some incredible looking Ashes of War and a big cast of Enemies and Bosses that are sure to drop some Items and Equipment related to them.

What new areas and bosses can we expect in the Elden Ring Expansion?

The new downloadable content takes place in the Land of Shadow, a twisted realm that the light of the Erdtree fails to illuminate. Guided by the Empyrean Miquella, players are drawn into this new area, a realm concealed by the Erdtree, where the goddess Marika first set foot. In these unfamiliar territories, players unravel the dark truths of the world while encountering others who pursue Miquella's path with their own hidden agendas.

Shown in the trailer are many new Bosses and Enemies, from a giant Flaming Brazier Golem that used to be a war weapon to Messmer the Impaler, a demigod wielding a spear and fire magic that is on a quest to raze this land. The video also shows many new minor locations, like a giant fortress and a blighted swamp.

What to expect from the Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion

Given FromSoftware's previous releases and the fact that the expansion is being announced more than a year after Elden Ring's official launch, we speculate that this content is a fully-fledged expansion meant to add significant content to the game.

Unlike the Colosseum Update, which featured content that had already been hinted at with the base game, the Shadows of the Erdtree expansion should feature entire new areas, weapons, equipment, bosses and discoveries. The zone features on the image for the game are already different than any available in-game at the moment, and it is likely to expand on the Lore and background of the world.

The expansion features its own "mini logo" which is often a signal for a large content expansion, but the main driving force behind the content size speculation is the amount of time that it has taken FromSoftware to reveal that the content is in the works.

  • Release Date: June 21st, 2024
  • Platforms: PS4 / PS5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S / Steam (Physical retail versions only available for PlayStation5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam)
  • Announcement Date: Feb 28, 2023
  • Type: Paid Expansion.
  • Pricing: Standard Edition - 39.99 USD. Premium Bundle Edition - 49.99 USD. Physical Collector's Edition - 249.99 USD.
  • Content: Speculated new areas, mechanics, equipment, weapons, NPCs, etc

New Story

Guided by Empyrean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot. In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.

New Location

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree takes players beyond the Lands Between to explore the Land of Shadow, a completely new world from Elden Ring. Players can seamlessly travel back and forth between its vast maps interspersed with diverse situations and meticulous dungeons where menacing enemies roam.

New Content

Shadow of the Erdtree adds new Weapons, equipment, weapon skills and Magic not found in the base game ELDEN RING, along with new EnemiesBoss encounters and plotlines to further increase players' RPG freedom. Take on these threats with the new powers you can acquire.

I hope they add some better AoW's for the fist, claw and whip weapons, I feel these are very limited and have no real unique move-sets just for them.

      • Anonymous

According to Miyazaki, this new Elden Ring location will be roughly the size of Limgrave in the base game “if not larger.”

Well, I think this is pretty small for a DLC which is priced at 40 USD, no?

The Land of Shadow will be an older version of the Lands Between, similiar like the darkroot garden in the DS1 DLC.
Miquella left his flesh in the cocoon, like Ranni did with her body and moved to the Land of Shadow. This is the reason, why Miquella doesn't respond to Moghwyn. Miquella will be a supporting mentor for the player and he will tell the player, why he is in the Land of Shadow, but we don't know yet. We are currently using his mount (torrent) and he will reveal himself in a similar way like Melina did. So the speculation, that he will be a boss is just wrong.
Messmer the Impaler is the third son of Radagon and Marika, this was already approved by Miyazaki in an interview with IGN. This is the reason, why he has red hair and looks very similiar to Malenia. Sounds logical right? All of those speculations, that he is just an alias for Miquella is just bs.

If you don't believe me, thats fine, but many points listed above were already approved by many trustful people in the internet, for example Miyazaki himself in the IGN Interview. :)

Many people think that Miquella is a new boss in the DLC, but it looks like he/she/it will save and cure the land.

Considering the DLC is 2/3 of the original games price I expect in the very least 3 or 4 death blighted Erdtree Avatars and Tree Spirits

                    • Anonymous

I'm waiting for the uninspired Evergaol Malenia boss fight in the DLC. I'm also very excited about another Lake of Rot and Blighttown kek poison swamp.
But FromSoftware won't release the DLC this year, because they are currently busy with another Armored Core game, that every player wanted so badly.

                      • Anonymous

Lemme guess, bosses include Marogrit, cousin of Margit and Morgott. Mohg son of Mohg, Godskin Trio, and Astel Naturalborn of copy and paste.

they won't pull a xenoblade 3 dlc reveal. Trailer will drop 25th of february and dlc at april or later most likely

                          • Anonymous

im 100% sure the dlc is already ready and all but they wont do a xenoblade 3 dlc style reveal a week earlier for 2 reasons: they want the hype and the dlc is dropping in april or later because fiscal year. My bet is the trailer is going to come out the 25th of february and the dlc 1/2 months later

                            • You know, I was making a list about what Demi-gods where good and evil and what not, and I place rykard, Mohg, ranni as evil, and malenia, radahn, godwyn and miquella as good. Then I though “wait miquella has the power to make people fall in love with him, maybe just maybe, miquella is actually super evil but using his power is making everyone fall in love and make them think he is pure hearted, the used Mohg to raise him to godhood while framing Mohg for kidnapping him” though is this just a theory I made up, I really have no major reason to support this but I’ll like to know what you think

Ahh, you ignorant slaves. Finally taken notice have you?
Of the power of my beloved DLC, child of Miyazaki.

Well, I will not give him up.
For he is all that I have.

the last 3 DLCs got released between 2 months and 4 months after the release announcement, so a release in Feb is highly unlikely

                                    Ahh, I knew you'd come.
To stand before the DLC. To begin a new journey.
What a sad state of affairs.
I commend your spirit, but alas, none shall take the DLC.
Lord Miyazaki has high hopes for us.
That we continue to wait. Unto eternity.

Things I want to see in the DLC:

                                      1. We can delete other players saves with a 1 FP spell
                                      2. Frog costume
                                      3. Vash the Stampede

Im hopeing for a new ending involving a new npc found in a new area and new boss at the end of it like fortisax

My DLC prediction is that it's going to be awesome and everyone will love it, except for the FextraLife comments who will complain about literally everything

                                          • Anonymous

The "meta" pvp level started out at 150 because when we were originally playing through the game most of us casually ended up around that level after beating the game.

Then we lowered it to 125 because that was a much more achievable level to reach by just beating the bosses necessary to beat the game and maybe all remembrances.

So do you all think the "meta" level will increase again when we get the DLC bosses?

I know i'm asking too much, but I honestly would love if they put an Ancestor Spirit ash, even if is a lesser version, I would honestly love it and use it anyway

Well personally I'm fine with it dropping next year as long as FS gets that bonus money + extra time to make the DLC. More money means either more dlc or the next FS game being better.

Scorching hot take: Fromsoftware is going to release the DLC next year so they'll more likely to win the game of the year 2024, which would potently make their investors happy (and the latter would be more willing to give them more money & opportunities to FS).

                                                  • Anonymous

As a one playthrough kind of guy I don't wish for more weapons, items or spells, there's plenty of them for me to try out in the DLC, much more than I would ever be able to. I just want some new large, challenging maze like legacy dungeons and badass bosses.

                                                    • Anonymous

I'm calling it now: if there's a abyssal-like dragon boss (not Lichdragon Fortissax) in the DLCs then it conforms my assumption that ER is a prequel to- *shot by the community*

I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone mention this on their DLC wishlists, but I'd like to see an arcane talisman. Just one would already make me happy. Perhaps an Heirloom that increases your arcana by 5. Similar to the intelligence, faith, strength and dexterity Heirlooms with that increase. The only talismans in game so far that increase your arcane are Marika's Scarseal and Marika's Soreseal. So it would make sense. Especially since there aren't a lot of items that help increase item discovery either.

A frost and/or madness affinity talisman would be great too. There are Exultation talismans that give you an increase of attack power with rot and blood loss in the vicinity. Perhaps they should add one with madness and frost as well.

A madness and rot affinity ash of war would be great be great as well, since there are none yet. The poison, blood loss and frost affinities are getting more love in that regard.

I would also like to see one or two more Frenzy incantations. There are only 5 in the game so far. So I definitely think they could give the Frenzy spell users out there some love.

Just know since it was barely used in the base game one of the bosses in the DLC is going to go all-in on the Sleep status effect, probably inflicting sleep buildup on attack, having an aura around it that causes sleep buildup and making clouds of sleep all over the arena. Basically, the Mohg of sleep.

                                                                          • Anonymous

You'll probably have to find the broken pendent in Mohgwyn Palace, go back to Elphael doorway whereby Miquella will pull you through the door into his dream and fight a guardian beast before progressing into the nightmare.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                    Dragons Dogma (Dark Arisen DLC)

I want the artbook and the helm is cool af too.. I never buy stuff like this but I appreciate the way this game was developed SO MUCH. We really have to patronize these S-Tier developers or else EA and such will keep getting away with murder

                                                                                      • If you look in the game files (SpEffectParam in Regulation.bin), there are parameters for Area Scaling from Tier 1 to Tier 29, with each tier representing an area in the game (sometimes two areas) and increasing the attack power of enemies as well as incnreasing their health, defense, and resistances.

Interestingly, Tier 14 to Tier 21 are unused, and their ID values place them after the content of the original game, possibly indicating they are for the new areas in the DLC. If this is correct, future DLC will include a minimum of seven new areas to explore, and based on the difficulty scaling, would place them after Volcano Manor + North Caelid and before Leyndell Sewers (Subterranean Shunning-Grounds).

This might also indicate at what point in a playthrough the new areas would become accessible.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

New weapons and bosses are great, but this game's had zero staying power for me because of the awful multiplayer. I've never dropped a Fromsoft game so hard after my first playthrough, I'd just rather play anything else.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I'm honestly just hoping for the simple infusion of ds3 (not gonna happen), and mimics chest making a return(maybe only one or two, since the base game is devoid of them?).
