does it work with inescapable frenzy? Cuz my attacks with that keep leaving my opponents with a sliver of health a lot of the time.

I’m so glad crits aren’t as strong as they were in DS3. This is coming from someone who is pretty good at parrying and getting backstabs. It really sucked to be in the middle of a great invasion you were dominating in, only for it to be abruptly ended because a host or phantom got a lucky parry or backstab. That hasn’t happened once in ER for me. This ring is still useful and so are crits in general, but they aren’t game ending. I think that’s a very welcomed change.

Personally I think a backstab while wearing this should activate the German suplex animation from Resident Evil 4. Especially since the remake is coming out soon.

in the build calculator, this seems to have the effect of radagon's scarseal instead of its real effect. it adds +5 to vigor, endurance, strength, and dexterity, and reduces damage negation. it does NOT do have its real effect, only scaling critical damage due to the stat increase and not to the correct 1.17x. please fix!

p.s. to non-staff: use the crucible scale talisman as a placeholder, which won't mess with your stats too much and has the same 1.1 weight :)

            • The animations used for Hornet Ring boosted Critical Attacks in DS1 and DS3 are actually the animations used in Demon's Souls. Why they didn't carry this over to Elden Ring I'm not sure, but I definitely miss those animations, I thought they looked a lot cooler than the standard ones. I actually have RP builds focused around pretending to be a Demon's Souls character in both DS1 and 3, and those animations really helped sell the cosplay, but they don't have exist in Elden Ring and that is a real shame.

              • What I liked about the ring equivalents in other games is how it changes and speeds up the animations for crits. That alone is what I want out of this, but I'm not seeing it here in ER. Unless there are some weapon exclusive animations.

Works with all enemies in PvE, damage boost is the same as PvP’s, %17.

For some reason DS3’s Hornet Ring only worked on humanoid enemies and bosses so I tested this ring out on all sorts of bosses just in case.

I don’t know if any body notice that but wen I kill somebody with backstab wearing this talisman I get some extra runes.

One thing that baffles me is that this talisman doesn't grant you the alternate backstab/riposte animation shown with the Hornet Ring in DS1 and 3.

                        • Anonymous

They made crits much weaker in ER, didn’t they? Not only is the dagger talisman half as strong as the Hornet Ring of yore (ditto of spear tali vs leo ring), but Elden Ring emphasizes stacking talismans and buffs to get scary numbers, and there’s just not a lot that synergizes with backstabs the way you can amp up others — a backstab isn’t a jump attack, charge attack, weapon ability, counter, or instantly causes statuses, which leaves its synergies down to normal buffs that benefit everything plus this one talisman.

What’s the best infusion/stats to one shot someone with 60 vigor/veterans armor at 125 using a parry? I typically go fth but willing to switch to dex if lightning is superior to sacred/flame art.

slaps with misericorde + parry in pvp or pve, and if you don’t know how to parry you can abuse flame of the redmanes to shatter poise in pve

Okay, so I got curious and decided to check into how this actually works.

It doesn't actually affect the critical damage modifier, instead it simply gives a 17% damage increase modifier while doing critical hits, which due to the way things are calculated, ends up being a 16% increase in critical damage.

A quick test using backstabs against that pleb soldier near Gatefront site of grace, the one who's conveniently facing away from the grace I tested with a Misericorde +0 with 66 Str and 10 Dex:

                                Plain Misericorde = 494 damage
With Dagger Talisman = 573 damage (16% damage increase)
With Flames, Grant Me Strength = 593 damage (20% damage increase)
                                With Dagger Tali + F, GMS = 688 damage (20% + 16% damage increase)
                                With F, GMS + Golden Vow = 682 (20% + 15% damage increase)
                                With F, GMS + GV + Dagger Tali = 792 (20% + 15% + 16% damage increase)

Misericorde modded to have 157 crit modifier = 568 damage (~15% damage increase)

                                • Anonymous

                                  How exactly does this work?

Say I have Misericorde that has a 140 crit modifier. Does this simply add on to that making it 157 crit modifier? Or does it multiply this by 17% causing it to be a 163.8 crit modifier?

Essentially, is this best used on the high crit modifier weapons (Misericorde, Rapier, Executioner's Axe) by stacking multiplicatively, or is it best used with simply the highest AR weapons by stacking additively?

                                  • Anonymous

Does this affect bosses too? Dark Souls 3’s Hornet Ring didn’t do extra damage to a vast majority of the bosses who could be poise broken, so I am not sure about this one either.

                                      "Parries are overpowered, please nerf"

My brother in christ, you kept doing running attacks when you can jump

                                      • The critical bonus seems to be 16%, not 17% actually. Indeed, these figures have less impact than those announced about bleed proc (21,87% instead of 15% reported) but there's a difference.

The story about the surgeon in the item description makes me think it could be funny if there was a covenant that works as a normal summon, but when the host is very low on hp they can be killed for a reward

Lets be real the only reason people actually used the old dagger talisman was because of cheesing cheese builds with a single crit or looking cool in duels and invasions

                                            • Anonymous

I understand that, with the return of passive poise, we have to be careful making backstabs too easy to connect, but I think DS3 hit the sweet spot for backstab animation timing. Bring it back! (I apologize this isn't anything to do with the talisman itself.)

I think it's only one Stonesword key because I only used one, which was the one after the throne room. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

I see one of those Fingerprint stone shield users coming. I equip this, a buckler and the misoricorde dagger. I parry them. GG.

                                                    • If you were expecting an Animation change akin to DS1 or expecting them to do something new like what was in DS2 and Demon Souls Remake's style, you'll be sorely disappointed. All animations remain the same it only increases damage.

In the large fancy room before Rykards portal, doorway at the top of the stairs leads you to an imp statue door.

Inside you’ll see lots of cages to jump on, but instead turn right, drop to the ledge below, through the doorway and follow the path to the talisman.

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

Better instructions as I find them very confusing:

Standing at the Temple of Eiglay grace facing east towards the Serpent altar, turn right where you will find a pillar that acts as an elevator. Take this elevator up and proceed outside from towards the balcony. Once on the balcony follow along the edge until you reach the lava streams. Drop down towars the summoning pool and proceed along the path upwards. You will reach a corpse, from here turn left and drop down onto the ledge and again proceed upwards. Once at the Lava lake, go west and cross the lava towards the tower. There will be an open windows you can jump trough to enter the tower. Open the door on your right and head forwards past the serpent up the stairs. Into the next tower (To your left is an elevator shortcut that leads back to the Temple of Eiglay). Go right and go straight ahead past one serpent down the stairs and another one into a manor like structure. Once inside go trough the door on the far right end side of the room which leads to a Throne room with stairs leading upwards on the left and right side of the room. Go up the first set of stairs and then proceed up the adjacent set of stairs so that once on top you are facing west. There will be a door which leads to an Imp statue. Use a stonesword key and proceed down the stairs into a big room with haning cages. Once trough the door immediatly turn right and drop down to the ledge below. Now behind you is a door, go through it up the stairs into a dark room with red candles on the walls. To your left are stairs leading up to another door which goes back into the large room with hanging cages. Go right, there will be a corpse hanging which when looted rewards the player with the Dagger Talisman.

                                                                          • Anonymous

My testing was performed against a NG Banished Knight, the one that patrols the Cathedral of Dragon Communion using a +25 Occult Miséricorde.

In the room with the haning cages, immediately turn right, there is a small ledge below you can drop onto. Just follow the path and you will find the Dagger Talisman on a corpse hanging off the ledge.

                                                                                  Here are better instructions:
From the Temple of Eiglay grace go the elevator that goes up outside located North-East of the Temple. Once up, keep going about North-North-West until you reach a door that leads into the manor. After reaching a sort of hall with lot of stairs and a throne, simply go left up the stairs and left again once another set of stairs this will lead to an imp statue opening a room with a lot of big hanging cages. You can drop on the first cage and look down to the North-East, there is a wooden platform with a doorway and following that path is where the Dagger talisman is.

                                                                                  • "Located not far from the Temple of Eglay Site of Grace inside Volcano Manor"

that is quite BS lol. It's extremly far away from it. You need to basically travel the entire path to the teleporter, then find the 2 imp statue, then figure out you have to jump on a super secret ledge before jumping on the metal cages, then you have to run even more to get to it.

                                                                                    • Anonymous
