encountered a weird bug with these. killed Rykard and talked to Tanith in the Manor, as well as Patches. they both gave their "farewell" dialogue. warped to Castellan's Hall, found Patches there, got the Castanets. warped to Rykard, Tanith was there, but the option to give her the Castanets was missing. checked my inventory, and the Castanets were gone. so they somehow deleted themselves from my inventory when warping. never encountered this before, is it because I finished Rya's quest and got the letter and Daedicar's Woe from her before visiting Tanith the last time? or is it really just a random bug?

High Priestess Emma: “Remind Prince Lothrick who he is: A Lord!”

“Remind Lady Tannith of who she is: A Wh0re!”

fun fact, if youre directly behind tanith when you give this to her, her head turns a full 180 degrees to look at you

          • Anonymous

Next step unknown = When you give the item to tanith, she just says: " i've no need of that'' and continues devouring, after this travel to murkwater cave again. See the walkthrough for patches's quest for his ending. When you've done that, you can go travel back and go ahead and kill Tanith and her puppy

            • Anonymous

I ended up Patches NOT knowing there were quest related events involving him. Also didn't know there was what..1 or 2 gestures you get from his encounter in "Murkwater Cave".
This is one of those examples where players can miss out on things without ever knowing unless someone tells you OR you look it up.

              Screw you Elden Ring..

Kill her, you really not gonna play ng+ for the achievements? Besides, they're likely going to release dlc that addresses the whole, "find purchase within me," line.

                • Hey guys, just by the way. I recommend you DON'T kill Tanith (or Patches for that matter) yet unless you wanna NG+ soon. Tanith and Patches are the only characters who you have to kill to get their items, and, are also the only characters who have such a weird and wonky questline ending. Fromsoft NEVER does this, at least not in Elden Ring. Even the most unimportant characters who have no consequences at all for being killed still have a way to give their items peacefully, like D's Brother.

The castanets are literally a lore item and it's so funny I do love that we can do it for an extra line, it just cemented my resolve in killing her and her crucible knight. The mask is useful and looks cool, and the crucible breath spell is actually good for a LOOOOOT of stuff

so im typing this as im listening to tanith-rkyard-eating asmr

the consort set sucks - both performantly and aesthetically. why would you even bother killing her for this?

its possible fromsoft does a patch where they give attention to this questline, however if you killed her you cant participate.

it'd feel pretty bad if you killed her and then fromsoft did this right? maybe its all a giant bait. even if it's not - her set sucks, so why even bother killing her?

i say - keep her alive. one day, fromsoft will do something useful with her. if not - well, you get some nice asmr instead.

had a funny interaction where I tried giving these to Tanith and she spun her head around like an owl to tell me they were worthless. freaked me out a bit lol

I notice you can speak to Patches before you speak to Tanith. I mean if he leaves once you speak to him and Tanith doesn’t go to Rykard’s corpse until you speak to her first, then maybe you’re supposed to go get this item from Shaded Castle before you speak to her about defeating Rykard? Then the option to give this to her at the exact moment before she eats his corpse is the moment you need to have her regain her senses… Has anyone tried this??

                          • Anonymous

I have a option to give talk to rykard's slithering dead head and give him the dancers castanet, any one els?

                            • Anonymous

People compare this to the pendant from DS1. In the re-release of Dark Souls 1, the pendant was given a secret function. No spoilers.

After giving castonets and re-fighting patches in cave for a second time. He says that him the the boys are gonna setup shop in a new location. Most likely he will be in dlc in new land.

Did anyone else kill him so you wouldn't have to reload the area for the bell Bearing thinking he was actually dying?

                                  • Anonymous

You would think he’s giving you useless items to fake his own death, but why would anyone wait for someone, esp the MC to pass by?

If anything, Patches probably actually cares about Tanith but her mental state is too ****ed to care about anything else anymore.

                                    • Anonymous

Weird for them to finally add the rest of Patches' questline but they kept this stupid thing in. idk if you even need to give this to Tanith for Patches to move back to Murkwater Cave since he vanishes from Shaded Castle after he gives it to you. But hey we finally get the Patches' Squat gesture so I guess I can't complain.

                                      • Anonymous

I feel like this is probably a joke on the Pendant from Dark Souls 1 as they look pretty similar and are both effectively useless

                                        • Anonymous

Has anyone tried giving her these before killing Rykard? Fromsoft is big on the timing in which events/objectives are completed, so can you give them sooner?

                                          • Anonymous

This is a bit of Fromsoft humor. Most quests end with the character handing you an item then dying. Without reading the wiki, you would think it's the end of his quest when you meet him in the Shaded Manor. In reality, Patches is a conman and wants to fake his own death and go back to banditry so he hands you this useless thing then pretends to die. But you can find him back at the bandit's cave where you first met him.

                                            • Anonymous

Makes no sense to "patch" a questline only for it to lead to more dead ends. Even patches ending feels off, just a repeat of your first encounter seems like devs had to save on development time

                                              • Anonymous

To me it's a joke item. Patches gives them to you to make you go away so you don't see him at his weakest.
Yes It's also a reference to tanith being a foreign dancer before meeting rykard.

Other main points are that patches
                                                A) had them in his inventory (he clearly took souvenirs from volcano manor before leaving)
                                                B) maybe he honestly knows tanith's past and is concerned about her. In hindsight is a distressed woman trying to keep it together and go on as normal, following her husband's last ideas after he became an exalted snake
                                                C) meta wise, it's a hint that you should be looking for tanith as she appears somewhere after the boss fight
                                                D) he trolls you once again. Once tanith refuses them and you snap out of the game you realize that it's a solid answer. Go on, go at a funeral in real life and give some castanets to the mourning wife and see what happens

                                                • Anonymous

I believe that Tanith at this point is a lost cause. You have to give her the castanets to try to come to her senses but without any result.. she is too far gone. So you have to kill her to stop her from consuming Rykard. Tanith's head piece of Consort's Mask says:
"Long ago, when Rykard first set eyes on Tanith, she was working as a dancer in a foreign land. Soon, he made her his consort.
She was the only human to remain by his side when he became the serpent of blasphemy.
In that moment, Tanith was truly charmed by him."

                                                  • Anonymous

No I'm not a hoarder of key items of unfinished quests, I'm just saving it for later when they fix it any day now, right..right?

                                                    • Anonymous

The fact that so many quests are still being finished/fixed from updates is one thing, but the fact that these are completely removed from your inventory if you give them to Tanith in Rykard's boss room has me concerned. She basically says "I have no use for those" and they just disappear

                                                      • Anonymous

Here the thing, Tanith seems to have an unfinished quest because of this item, and It's doing nothing at the moment (patch 1.04) maybe there will be some action with it in the future but .... It's very annoying though that you have to kill her to obtain the last incantation "aspect of the crucible : breath"...

                                                        • Anonymous

I thinks this item it just a meme, because i looks a lot like humble pendant from ds1 and we all know where this is going.

                                                          • Anonymous

I don't think it's an unfinished quest i believe this is for DLC. Rykard is supposed to be immortal. He became immortal by letting the snake eat him and then he fused with it. Lady Tanith might be a snake like Zorayas or it might not matter and by eating him he will be able to be reborm by fusing with her. When you talk to her as she eats his body she says let's devour the God's together. So presumably in the DLC they would be fused and you might be able to use the Dancers castanets to remind Tanith of who she was to help when fighting them. It may give an opening like Margit's shackles.

Or it could just be insinuated lore and we are supposed to assume she will fuse with him in the future and her refusing the castanets is to show how far gone she is.

                                                            • Anonymous

Gostoc behaved nearly exactly like Tanith pre patch 1.0.3. Then a patch came that added a new quest step. I wouldn't be surprised if Tanith gets an additional quest step where she returns to the manor and you get either her stuff or something entirely new. And when speaking of Volcano manor, Zoraya also vanishes and is never seen again. Lets hope scrapped quest steps (along gear and skills) get added back in over time where there are LOTS of according to dataminers.

                                                              • Anonymous

My guess is more to the story in a up coming dlc. Fire has always been huge in souls games and patches never dies in any of the souls games. Not even Demon Souls from the OG days. DLC incoming…..

                                                                • Anonymous

Ok guys, you need to understand... THIS QUEST IS NOT UNFINISHED WHAT THE F*CK !
Rykard's dead. Patches didn't like Rykard, but seems to be attached to Tanith.
Patches tried to make Tanith remember who she was instead of her becoming new Rykard by returning her these, but she does not care; or remembers.

Tanith and Zorayas will maybe have some content in a DLC (like Miquella) but no patch will "fix" this because there is nothing to fix.

Fixed questlines we're really unfinished because there already were dialogues, items and other placeholders for them.
They already added this out of nowhere just to give a proper ending to the whole Volcano Manor arc, don't expect anything more.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

The greenish hue, plain look and simple string brings but one thing to mind: the Pendant, from DS1. I think it's that all over again. There might just be no resolution or meaning to be had, here.

Seems that it dead ends for both after giving the Castanets. They leave your inventory, Patches disappears completely, and Tanith reverts to the same dialogue as before you gave them to her.

                                                                        • "Horatio, we couldn't solve Patches case, it's a complete mystery. I'm afraid it's cut content."
Horatio: "Well, I guess our victim Patches better hope... *puts on sunglasses *...He gets PATCHED!"
                                                                          YeeeeeeeeeeeeAaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!

                                                                          • Anonymous

It should be noted that, upon giving Tanith the Castanets (and her refusal), she actually stops feeding on Rykard's remains and turns to look at the player when she says, "I have no need of that." All of her other dialogue occurs during her standard "eating" animation.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

I know you all think its a unfinished quest again but maybe the extra dialogue from tanith is the quest conclusion, that wouldnt be the first time that we only get 2 extra lines of text from an quest item. for example the item from gael the final boss of the whole dark souls trilogy the only reward for the item was some extra text.

                                                                                      • This questline leaves me with more questions than answers. What can be inferred through most quest lines is some sort of "end" - in the case of Tanith and Patches we don't really have a concrete assumption to make.

I don't think that there is "more" to this questline and I don't believe that there should be more added. It just adds to the elusiveness of Patches and his final words surrounding his interest in Tanith.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Give her the castanets, and leave her alive. Eventually she will come to her senses and travel the lands between, in a future patch.

Just saying. DS3 Patches was a key character in the DLC. He leaves the item with a message. From has a lot of optimization and balance work on their plate, and this quest might continue at some point in the next 4 months. There's always NG+ though.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Getting a Key item does not mean we will be able to use it. Even the description of the item speficies that it's just normal item. Patches and Tanith maybe have a common story about these Castanets, who knows ?
I can imagine it pretty easily.

Patches story came to and end : he was trying to get some loot for the lady that he served, failed and fainted (died maybe). His last action is to give you an item you have to bring to Lady Tanith, an item that means something for them but absolutely nothing for us players / tarnished. It's a remembrance for them, not a quest unlocking item for us.
And nothing happens, 'cause, you know, Tanith has something else on her plate.

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

She spawns her crucible knight protector which drops Aspects of the Crucible: Breath incantation, and then you get the Consort set from Tanith body by Rykards corpse.

Farmed the crazy women there for their Festive Garb Set and tried doing the Fancy Spin gesture in front of Tanith while wearing it and nothing happened. Grasping at straws at this point.

When you first go back you have the option to give them to her but she just refuses saying along the lines of "what are those, I have no need of such things". And then reverts back to her normal dialogue and Patches is gone from the Castle too.
