Death Ritual Spear is a Spear in Elden Ring. The Death Ritual Spear scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence and is a good Weapon to engage in close combat from a safe distance, piercing enemies during battle.
Ritual spear used by priests of old who were permitted to come among the Deathbirds.
The priests became guardians of the birds through the rite of Death,
which also serves as an oath sworn to their distant resurrection.

Pair this with the Carian Filigreed Crest to make the FP only 15 as well as the Ancrestral Spirit Horn to regain 3FP everytike to kill an enemy and you'll be using this for days killing whole entire dungeons.

Shhh, don't tell people about this weapon. You don't want every meta chaser using the same weapon as you and making you look like one of them, do you?
- Anonymous
DEX/INT map cleaner. Allows to quickly raise your game difficulty to NG5. Effective against maliketh, malenia, elden beast. Surprisingly ineffective against certain other types of enemies

this weapon literally made for a battle mage, even just for using the ash of war. I dont find any mid range aow can beat this one for a battle mage, pair this with ancient death rancor. you can be such a aggressive battle mage. I dont think invader would have too much fun rolling all those stuff coming their way lol.

"Ritual spear used by priests of old"
Is an int+dex weapon instead of an int+fth.
I'm very sad.

great as a high damage long range with ancient death rancor for my ghostflame build

while the invader welfare weapon got too much attention (ofc I mean the dragon Halberd). this is a welfare weapon for gank squad.
6.5 weight in spare weapon slot , you can use this AoWs when invader fighting your co-op and at this point it literally hard to dodge (wide AoE with RNG).
if one of AoWs hit , your co-op can land another hit to invader that make it very deadly.

Combo the ash of war with ancient death rancor to turn Elden Ring into Touhou

Great game design allowing this thing to stunlock people on rng hit patterns. 10/10 game Miyazaki.

Nobody seems to get the best thing about this spear. Might be lower damage per spear for the art, but you can just spam it. You might not get one shots, but you don't need them. What you need is orbital nukes to deal semi nutty damage and induce panic.
- Anonymous
This legit eats the elden beast alive if your sorceries aren’t doing enough for you just spam this with an Alexander shard
- Anonymous
How do I counter this? Like, where am I supposed to dodge? Does thops barrier block this?

I like the implications that the fact a priest sacrificed himself to become "guardian" of this specific Death Rite Bird is the reason it is the only which spawns during the day as well.

Would love to use this. Too bad it is attached to a terrible boss I won't bother to kill.

Probably THE best utility aow stick for pure int builds. It is seriously very op and long ranged

The single best weapon for putting down passive shitters spamming star shower in arena

This things ash is better than rain of arrows when the target isn’t standing still. Has limited reach compared to greatbows as well but the area it covers is great at catching multiple people. If people are keeping distance this weapons ash forces them to either retreat into greatbow range or rush to you where you can punish with endure weapons or hyperarmor trades. One of the best ashes to have on hand in an invasion.
- Anonymous
Love spamming it at the start of duels on a no int build, people panic like crazy

I’m averaging like .800 with this when taunting invaders in at lvl50. Almost feels wrong but eh

nerf barrier of gold and buff this, man would love to sit in on a meeting where this was approved
also to see the ER balance team invade in their own game, because to balance the game they must do invasions too right?
Right...

I don’t care that’s not so great meta-wise, I just think this is such a cool weapon.

I wish this did more damage honestly, 2k seems good until you realize the envoys long horn can easily hit for 5k+ and way more on enemies weak to holy or big targets like dragons.
With more dmg this could be a cool magic alternative to the long horn, but with it's current dmg it's just not very good on ng+ runs
- Anonymous
I love stance breaking with this weapon, then use the AoW point black and the enemy starts getting erased out of existence.
- Anonymous
I wish there was a straight sword with this design.. I don't like spears.. they are strong but.... fashion..
- Anonymous
lol I had problems fighting it so I decided to run away. mounted Torrent, slide from the cliff towards castle Sol and that mf tried to jump attack me from the cliff which instantly killed him..
- Anonymous
as of 1.10 this weapon is absolutely disgusting in pvp, the AOW will just lock you until you die.
- Anonymous
pretty good weapon for punishing people with long animation or immobile spells like elden stars and blackflame ritual
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Is there a reason it doesn't scale with both int and faith like all the death bird spells.
- Anonymous
I know it’s not the same, but for all of you who need copium waiting for this on a run in the mountaintops, clayman’s harpoon and AOW Ice spear exist. Then by the time you get death ritual spear you’ll have a nice pair for powerstancing. Cold/magic Clayman’s and ice spear SLAP on pve. You can occasionally catch people turning corners in pvp as well. Just note the sound of the AOW as a good opponent will hear. Just note that the scaling leans to STR and death ritual leans dex. Shouldn’t matter if you’re running magic on Clayman’s tho.
- Anonymous
Shame it's not an early game item so you can do a play through with it, otherwise you have to do NG+ to start with it.
- Anonymous
Fun to use on my INT build to call in airstrikes on gankers
- Anonymous
This is THE most inconsistent weapon skill in the game, it will either hit for 2000+ damage easily on even smaller targets(like regular soldiers) or deal like 400 to a God damn dragon. I can't even tell why, when it lands, it lands and deals good damage, but it can decide not to for... some reason.
- Anonymous
Disregard the nutty basement-dwelling chud who commented spazoid stuff over 20 different times on April 5.
- Anonymous
the only thing keeping this from being top tier op is no hyperarmor

Why can’t this damn thing have frostbite on even just it’s aoe

Anyone gonna mention how this thing looks like the Divine Dragons 7 Branch Sword from Sekiro?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Its skill doesn't deal much damage, but it's very useful in group pvp as you can provide your friends a stun lock to enemies from a distance.
- Anonymous
Sorry mages, but even after the buff, dual nagis will always be the best choice for powerstanced spears.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
people use it for the skill and forget it has the epic sweep r2
- Anonymous
Weapon n art in PvE seems super useful on a big boss that could be hit by allot of the aoe at once, seems like it would be useless in pvp due to the fact that the animation shows where it will land so unless they are stationary I don't see it hitting much
- Anonymous
the skill is surprisingly good in pvp, simply because it's difficult to dodge and unless you know what it is it just looks like a buff animation. It won't be oneshotting anyone even with the best build possible, but it is excellent for punishing buffs, or for opening a duel after the emotes are done, simply because most people just think it's a weapon buff.
- Anonymous
The skill seems to have broken, maybe in the most recent patch. Often when I use it on some enemies it just does nothing at all. I can spam it 3-5 times and they will get staggered, guard broken, etc, but take literally no (0) damage and not aggro me. I have to hit them first with some attack, then start using this ash of war and it starts doing damage. Unfortunately, it really breaks the whole weapon.
- Anonymous
This should have been an int fth scaling hybrid catalyst similar to the demons scar in ds3. It both mentions priests (fth) and being used in rites (int staff). It's still overall a fun weapon, but i think its potential was wasted a bit.

To people trying to spam the weapon art: you have to let it land before recasting. Some spells and incants will reset when being recast, even though they are visually present—like swarm of flies. This is to prevent spamming and encourage players to be a little more patient and clever with their use; being able to queue up several barrages in quick succession would make this weapon cancerous. Not sure if they will adjust this in future patches, but the feathers need to land before being recasting for optimized damage.

I noticed a game-breaking bug when using the Commander's standard to buff damage of the Death Spear's Ash of War. Casting the Spearcall Ritual while under it's effect causes the damage to do NO damage at all, only inflicting the poise break.
- Anonymous
Comments are crazy; ash is excellent but I used it at 80 int. 320ish damage per spear on common enemies and they're pretty densely packed. Also has B scaling in dex with an AR of about 634 at 50/80 DEX/INT, very common on sorcery builds. Covers the spear's weakness of no slashes with it sharing the slashy R2s of the partisan, and overall just a solid moveset. The ash really burns the hell out of anything Tree Sentinel size and above, which is most dangerous enemies in the game, honestly. Probably the only spear I'll consider using, since it's a better magic partisan, thanks to its weapon art. Also the style
- Anonymous
this, along with almost all the death weapons, scale really poorly with stats for regular hits, their weapon arts however scales very good with INT, and exclusively with INT. only use this and the death's Poker if you want a AOW spam build that focuses on frost

This weapon is a good backup for facing large bosses, farming Albs, or crowds of enemies. It absolutely melts dragons/dragonkins/avatars, like almost to unfair degree.
- Anonymous
Really disappointing damage. Needs a buff badly. Either make the raining spears have a mild homing effect on the target, or up the damage. As it stands, this weapon is useless on anything smaller than an Erdtree Avatar.
- Anonymous
For some reason the weapon art doesn't seem to any damages to bosses sometimes. I can cast it three or four times and do no damage to a boss. When drop the bosses health some with physical damage, then the weapon art works.
- Anonymous
Tried this out on my hard Dex soft Int (up to 40) build, got it up to +10 and took on Commander Niall.
It...wasn't very good. Despite scaling in three stats it only really benefits from Dex, the total AR doesn't add up to much and there's not much to say about it's moveset. It's a spear, it pokes slashes with the heavies.
That would be fine if the Skill wasn't so inconsistent. The total AoE is huge, but against a single target many will miss. Damage ranged between 300 and 700 against Niall. Against a larger target like the dragons or Elden Beast maybe it'll be more consistent but I consider Niall to be 'large'. I'm unsure what the Skill scaling is based on: I have 50 Dex and 34 Int w/o a great rune or stat boosts at the time of typing this.
Overall, just find it...meh. The fact it doesn't apply Cold is even more baffling, seeing how that's a theme with the Death Rite Birds. There's more effective and more interesting options. It does look neat, though!

Ash of War breaks poise quickly, does decent damage and you look extremely cool while doing so.
- Anonymous
It's not a great melee weapon, and the weapon art is only okay compared to a lot of other uniques. But regardless of whether you kill or get killed, you'll always be more stylish than your enemy.
And that means you're the real winner.
- Anonymous
Oh, mistress of sweet release. Grant those cursed to life freedom of their mortal coil, that they may finally find peace in slumber they not yet know they seek.
- Anonymous
it really sucks that this and the death sorceries need very different builds so you can't really use them together
- Anonymous
I've had great results with the AoW when you would cast it from the high ground. I'm wondering if there's something about the tracking that gets affected in that situation.
Though it would make sense given the death rite birds do fly up when doing this move.
- Anonymous
Facing away from the opponent while not locked on and the locking on during the weapon art's cast will cause the spears to fall directly in front of you.
- Anonymous
This weapon's AoW in invasions can be nasty. You can even use walls to cast it closer than max range without lock on and in tight rooms they cant get out.
- Anonymous
Nothing more satisfying than when you catch somebody with the weapon skill and he wobbles from every hit he gets. Very fun weapon to use, although quite low dmg for my build and I wish weapon art's free aim was better

Seven-pronged sword inspired but this time it's NINE prongs! Upgrades, people, upgrades!

AoW on large targets is fun. Hate dragons? No problem, just rain spears on them.
- Anonymous
Love this weapon, the AoW is good in PvE and it could be decent in PvP for spacing but the cast animation locks you in place for way too much time. i would like to see a buff for L2 cast time, it would make this weapon slighty better for pvp, still sub-optimal, but at least the AoW would be usable. Will keep using this beauty regardless though

Lots of whiners on here complaining about this being worse than META weapons. Why not try something..oh I don't know, new, and nonMETA. Takes practice to get good with a weapon.
- Anonymous
For people saying the int scaling is bad, not saying youre wrong but that is only applying to weapons main moveset. As for the ash of war, it is strictly int/magic damage and is where you would likely see the damage bonus for any points invested in int. Same principle applies to other weapons.
- Anonymous
(1.04) seems like there's a glitch with this weapons's skill. spearcall ritual does no damage with Rallying Standard buff.

Why does this not have int+faith scaling like the prince of death's staff? This could have been such a cool weapon for postgame/NG+ int+faith builds but instead you only get the sword of night and flame for melee and nothing else. With only int scaling, this is just yet another almost good int-based melee that ends up getting completely overshadowed by the meta weapons (moonveil, dark moon greatsword, and wing of astel)

This should have had a tiny amount of Death buildup as a passive effect. Missed opportunity.

I feel like this thing just need to have a D in faith addon on, Or they could make it like 4 Cs just across the board and say it just requires to have 14 in all thoes stats. so you could use this not just on death mage builds but also golden order aswell. even lore wise it would makes sense cause its talking about being used by priests. so all and all just adding a faith scale and or just giving it Cs all round makes this more lore friendly and a better but not overpowered weapon. cause from what iv understood that deathbird faith is and old practice long forgotten and more or less heretical. PS i just want this to be good cause the weapon art reminds me of how Rachet and Clank bosses shoot missiles and im a big Rachet and Clank fan.

this weapon at +9 rapped Commander of Castle sole on NG6 destroyed his minnions and 2 cast and tore him down very quickly with my mimic keeping his attention and i am only lvl371 in ng6 so i was under leveled forn the fight to start

How does this compare to the clean rot spear?
Both have a “volley of attacks” weapon art, this scales of int and the cleanrot spear scales off faith. Is one better than the other?
- Anonymous
Tested INT influence on WA: First build had 14-40-60 STR-DEX-INT for an AR of 615. Testing on Limgrave soldier on NG+ did 341 with the first falling spear, and 270 for each follow-up strike. The next build was with low INT but matching AR of 615, 16-55-18. Same target took 264 from the first falling spear, with 209 damage for each follow-up strike.
TLDR: The high INT build took three falling spears to reach 881 damage, while the low INT build took four falling spears to reach 891 damage. So a whopping 42 points of INT does only about 30% more damage.
Whatever though. I still love this weapon.
Does the r2 deal slash? It only lists pierce on the weapon
