Discus Hurl |
---|
Throws the roundshield like a discus using the smithing arts. Once thrown, the shield will remain airbone for a moment before beginning a vertical rotation that chases down its target.

Discus Hurl is a Skill in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Discus Hurl allows the user to throw the shield as if it was a discus, dealing damage to the target. It will be instantly restored to the wielder's hand thanks to the smithing arts.
How to get Discus Hurl in Elden Ring
- Default skill for the Smithscript Shield.
Elden Ring Discus Hurl Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is a Unique Skill
- FP Cost: 3
- This Skill is not Chargeable
- Throws the shield high into the air, the shield stays airborne for an instant then flies towards its target. Has moderate tracking.
- This behavior makes it ideal for hitting enemies from unusual angles, for example launching the shield from behind the lower part of a staircase to hit unaware enemies above and further in.
- Works nicely against dodging enemies, as they'll dodge when the shield is thrown and then be hit by its tracking
- Fixed a bug where some special effects of a right-handed weapon would also be applied to the skill when cast with the left hand
- NOTE: This skill was changed with Patch 1.12.3
- NOTE: Patch 1.14 Decreased the damage animation value generated by this skill when hitting another player.

could do with a small damage increase, can't take out the fire witches on the mountaintops in one hit but can oneshot shadow hornsent in shadow keep just fine

use with Blessed Blue Dew Talisman, Shard of Alexander, Smithing Talisman and Two-Handed Sword Talisman, then two-hand the shield and watch this suddenly become your main attack.

whenever i see people saying they want this to be an ash of war the first thing that comes to mind is the Pillory Shield, imagine this on a Pillory Shield, it would be cartoonishly comical

Kinda wish they kept stun on this weapon, it was perfect against blind spot spammers.

this weapon skill reminds me of the sentinel boss fight (and later at the Vendric's castle) from dark souls 2

Honestly, the skill on this should have been an Ash of war for small shields; it'd squeeze more utility out of some outside of parrying or raising resistance. Just imagine the bullshit that would occur putting something like this on the Spiral horn shield or the Shield of the guilty.

yeah sure i may have dodged your 6th consecutive discus hurl in a row, but surely the 7th one will hit me

boy oh boy, discus hurl.
the lowest starting class (hero) has 9 mind, leaving him with 75 fp. this means that no matter what, you'll always have at LEAST 25 discus throws per blue gatorade (if not more).
in pvp, this is insane. it's fast, there's not much cooldown between each throw, and it's got pretty good tracking.
while it can be blocked, you'll still be taking chip damage, unless you're using a shield or the deflect tear. truly unfortunate, mage bros.
in short, which one of you hurt miyazaki? it's clear he had only hate in his heart when he was cooking this up.

You may believe this can counter bow builds, but if an archer is using the spear talisman you will probably lose the trade. Just block the arrows with it instead.

As a sunbro, I absolutely love this AoW for dealing with cowardly recusants.
Hiding in the middle of a group of enemies? Eat discus.
Trying to close the gap? Eat discus.
Panic rolling? Eat discus.
Trying to snipe with a jar cannon/sorcery/incantation? Eat discus.
Running away to find a new enemy to hide behind? Eat. My. Glorious. Golden. Discus.

if it was strafeable it wouldn't be so cancer... but in its current state it makes elden ring feel like rhythm heaven

gotta love 90% of the playerbase spamming 1 ash of war button over and over and being rewarded for it

Does the damage scale with strength or just weapon level? Anyone tested this?

This makes stormblade & thunderbolt (2 of the most oppressive ranged ashes in this game) feel rational & balanced. To say nothing of the various bugs it let's you abuse. Yikes.

Combine this with Death Flare if you want to get blocked when playing online

This has longer range, damage and costs far less fp than storm blade. Wut?

This thing needs a higher FP cost than 3. Melee builds should not have cheaper, stronger ranged options than builds that dedicated themselves to ranged (like magic).

What does this scale with? Only Str?
