Fires ring of light before the caster
![]() |
Discus of Light is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Discus of Light spell deals holy damage in a AoE. Updated to Patch 1.07.
One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists.
Produces a ring of light and fires it forwards. The ring of light returns to a position close to the caster before disappearing. This incantation can be cast repeatedly.
A gift from the young Miquella to his father, Radagon.
Where to find Discus of Light
- Purchase from Brother Corhyn for 11,000 runes after he moves to Goldmask's location at Altus Plateau.
Elden Ring Discus of Light Guide
- Golden Order Incantation
- Stamina Cost: 20 [outdated as of 1.07, needs updating]
- Deals holy damage and 4 stance damage
- The caster can use a spell parry such as Carian Retaliation or Golden Retaliation to deflect a returning discus and proc the effect of the spell parry used.
- Note: Significantly buffed in Patch 1.07 - FP cost reduced from 9 to 3, cast speed has been increased and the halo is now faster, lasts longer and has more range. In addition, stamina cost has been reduced.
- Flight Path & Damage: details on how the disc projectile interacts with objects during its path of flight.
- Flight Path: Send Stroke
- Ignores enemy and destructible-type environment objects.
- Does not ignore obstacles and structures.
- Flight Path: Return Stroke
- Ignores all objects.
- Damage: Send Stroke & Return Stroke
- Will only trigger once per enemy.
- If the point of contact is a shield-type object (like a shield or type of shield-like body armor), then the damage will be filtered through that object's parameters.
- Flight Path: Send Stroke
- More Effective On Larger Enemies: Comparing two different cases; A) hitting a smaller enemy; and B) hitting a larger enemy. It's more likely that the disc's return stroke will hit in case B because the distance required to move (to cause the return stroke to miss) is larger than in case A.
- Un-mounted Casting: forces the caster to take a tiny step forward when each disc is thrown. Some ledges will prevent the caster from over-stepping and falling off.
- Some testing is required to determine if there is a principle//rule governing this observed ledge behavior.
- Mounted Casting: the caster and mount can trot slowly in any direction but the disc projectile can only be thrown in a forward facing angle with respect to the mount upon incantation release.
Elden Ring Discus of Light Notes and Tips
Updated to patch 1.07. See Patch Notes for details.
- Great for mounted boss-fights and farming due to its extremely low FP cost & ability pierce through all enemies.
- Most effective when used on larger enemies and used while on horseback.

Is damage based on incant scaling or does the holy damage only scale with faith?

This lets me fulfill my Xena, Warrior Princess fantasy. As Brother Corhyn taught me this incantation, I heard Dean Pelton's voice in my head saying: "This better not awaken anything in me..."
- Anonymous
I think this is meant to be faith alternative to Carian Slicer, except better in pve against stupid mobs. But after Slicer nerf, this thing is better in pve and even pvp. I would know since i respecced from sorceries to incantations.

This thing must’ve had a training montage between dark souls and elden ring because it is THROBBING with power now

You are locked out of getting this spell if you don't progress Cohryns questline in Altus, I got his bell bearing but this spell is not available
- Anonymous
As mentioned below, it’s Godly with max cast speed. At 125+ 30 dex for tree spear and you got a weapon with really good damage that can be buffed by orders blade and synergizes well with discus and Tripple rings and you got max cast speed with radagon icon. And tree spear L2 gives 10% spell dmg buff in pve. Identical to having a GO order seal in terms of spell boost.

For being holy damage, this is actually good. Killed Lichdragon with this even with 80% res
- Anonymous
It’s AOE. It’s long ranged. It’s cheap. It’s high damage that hits twice. It’s fast. What more could you possibly want? This is such a great, efficient incantation.

going from 12 dex to 42 dex (by equipping Radagon’s Icon which is 30 “virtual dex” for casting speed purposes) makes a decently noticeable difference for (at least the first cast of) this incant, and going up another 30-ish dex (by respec-ing so you can do 40 dex plus Radagon for 70 effective dex, which is the cap for casting speed improvement) makes another noticeable difference. It feeeeels like starter Discus is a little too much on the slow side to be able to get away with using it as your primary attack all the time, while 70 Dex Discus crosses over into being fast enough to use as a primary attack. So my currently level 59 discus spam character (named Cheese Pizza cuz i feel like i’m slinging spinning pizza doughs at people) has 40 Dex in exchange for extremely low vigor and endurance and mind, leaving some budget for Faith (and for getting Int to 13 ofc). Faith is a lot more important than Mind if you’re focusing on this spell, the FP cost is cheap but you need the damage to be reliable. If you want to full meme it I recommend goldmask’s mask (more damage), Godslayer Seal (good seal for a long time after 27 Faith), offhand Golden Order seal (more damage), sacred scorpion charm (more damage), ritual sword talisman (more damage), and holy shrouding cracked tear plus faith+10 tear (more damage). This can all be grabbed before Leyndell. Radagon Icon requires killing the dog and Godslayer Seal requires killing Margit. Some other items in there that take killing minibosses.

The people who edit this wiki never cease to amaze me. "Stamina cost: 20 [outdated as of 1.07 - needs updating]"
If you're gonna edit the page to say it's wrong, then why not fix it while you're there?

This incantation allows you to throw a little frisbee of light that penetrates through everything until it hits an object like a wall or a breakable box, and after a second of waiting there being stuck, it starts its journey back towards you for a second hit. The second hit will be catching people from behind their camera if you can line it so it makes it very handy, but the spell itself is incredibly cheap and efficient, hits for a good deal especially if you consider penetration of multiple targets and the second hit, can be chain casted to create a dangerous place for your enemies to be in and furthermore it has absolute bonkers of a range, riddiculusly long distance. Shame I've been sleeping on it, seems bread & butter from now on.
- Anonymous
This spell is so amazing and yet I have locked myself out of it because I was doing a strength intelligence build rather than a strength faith build but changed my mind a did a respec. Now I have to wait til nee game + to get it and that's lame.
- Anonymous
This has a good deal more range than Lightning Spear. Kinda sucks and it's my biggest gripe with that spell. I don't really want to have to use this or Frenzy Barret .50 cal to reach an enemy with a ranged spell on my faith build
- Anonymous
I've been waltzing around with the Ancestral Spirit's Horn, and Cold Sacrificial Axe with Bloodhound's Step, and the Carian Filigreed Crest. Since like this, Discus of Light costs 3 FP and Bloodhound's Step costs 4 FP, you can evade easily and the Discus will still return to you at a new position to hit the enemy again. On top of that, the Axe also regenerates FP on kill so in tandem with the Talisman, you're basically an endless fountain of FP that never runs out.
The fact that Ambush Shard (23 INT) costs 13 FP, but Discus of Light deals 50% more damage on hit, hits twice, penetrates enemies like a comet spell across it's entire range, and is viable in direct combat is nuts.
The fact that Starlight, a spell that's just a glorified torch, costs 9 FP and this costs 3 FP is UTTERLY INSANE.
- Anonymous
I just made an int/faith build; currently lvl 20 i rushed down this spell, the golden order seal, and goldmask's mask. You can make an entire build around these golden order spells and this one has been annihilating limgrave ever since i returned to it.
- Anonymous
Cast this, then deflect it again to send it back out for more damage using the Erd Tree Shield special ability.
So much fun.
- Anonymous
4-6 int points is now worth it for this on a pure faith build.
- Anonymous
This incantation now has a wonderful damage-FP ratio; even at only 10 Focus it can be used so many times that it is now a highly effective long-range addition for melee characters.
- Anonymous
Insanely cheap, fast, good range, only lacks a little bit of tracking and the ability to be charged like lightning spear
Very good staple incant, low FP cost, low Stamina cost, high damage and very far range.
It's only con is it's low poise damage. 9/10.
- Anonymous
This spell is so ****ing good, costs like 0 fp, hits hard, very spammable, looks stylish af, the only bad thing about it is very low poise damage
- Anonymous
Thanks to the recent buffs, this spell is amazing, so good they'll probably nerf it. It's like the faith version of comet in terms of damage, range, and piercing for minimal FP. Well worth dipping into 13 int for a faith build.
- Anonymous
I enjoy the erdtree shield with this its like ultimate holy ping pong.

Most FP efficient incantation in the game now. There is literally no reason not to use this on every enemy in the game.
- Anonymous
I started a Golden Order character recently, having tried this incantation a while ago on my first play through.
This incantation is now very good! With 15 mind, you can effectively replace your melee attack with this, and 2 discs will kill most enemies. Very FP efficient, and the range is very far. This might be so useful that faith characters should find a way to run it, although I have only tried it with the Golden Order Seal and 50/50 int/fai.

- Anonymous
I really wish there was a 'fundamentalist' starting class that started with this spell, 13int/13faith and low everything else with 7 arcane like the vagabond. Insane the most efficient golden order build is vagabond because it has the lowest arcane.
- Anonymous
doesn't quite have the shredding potential of triple rings, but its way more efficient
- Anonymous
Combine with ancestral spirit horn for free casts against low-health mobs.
- Anonymous
Extremely good for a holy-focused faith build with the downside of having to waste points in INT but it's well worth it. The disc is small but flies EXTREMELY far and fast (like maximum lock-on range far), a stark contrast to the slow and short ranged incantations faith usually has. Hits twice, costs practically nothing, and can be chain cast to the point where you'll be poise-breaking large foes through sheer volume of shots.
- Anonymous
I consider this the best pvp incantation that’s “honest.” I’ve killed three people at once with this in a tight corridor. An invader used endure, double straight swords to run me down a buttress but the stacked rings melted him even with endure. I don’t even use gold mask, just 50 fth, 37 int, golden order seal and ritual sword talisman. Triple rings are useful for mixups and area denial but discus is the real killer.
After patch 1.07 it's my favorite incantation, good range, fast, cost almost nothing to use, can hit twice
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I've always loved Golden Order incantations but found them lacking, but the recent buff makes this so fun to use. Especially with a Sacrificial Axe in the offhand. Free map clear in PvE all day.
- Anonymous
13 int is now worth it for pure faith casters and even str/fth builds. Orders blade looks cooler than lightning blade imo too.
- Anonymous
Just did my faith/int playthrough, and man this is probably the best PvE spell in the game after the latest update. It's only 3 FP! It hits twice, and it chunks fairly hard on a Golden Order seal with decent stat investment 40 int/40 faith. You can pretty much clear an entire area up until the boss with just this spell reliably
- Anonymous
This thing's range is nuts now. If I'm on flat ground, aim up, and throw a fire pot as far as I can lug it, that's about the range of 1.07 Discus of Light. It's not quite Bolt of Gransax range, but it's not far off. Also, 3 FP makes it the most efficient damage spell in the entire game, even if the enemy has 40% holy resist.
- Anonymous
Melts through gankers flaks like butter and can also be chain casted with triple rings of light for a good mix up
- Anonymous
Wow, 66% reduction in FP cost, faster cast, faster projectile, increased range, and longer-lasting projectile. FP cost of a single cast is offset by Ancestral Spirit's Horn. This might actually make it a staple spell like Glintstone Shard or Catch Flame that can be used a lot throughout legacy dungeons without draining all your Baja Blasts.
Massively buffed in 1.07. It was already one of the best incantations for general combat (aside from dealing holy damage...) but now it's increadibly cheap, fast to cast and deals good damage (up to twice).
- Anonymous
****ing insane post 1.07, holy ****.
Outclasses every other single target spell on pure cost efficiency, while still dealing equivalent damage to uncharged lightning spear

A very reliable spell for both PVP and PVE, a little less damage than lightning spear, but more FP efficient and you can shenaniganize it to your liking.
- Anonymous
This spell has been a surprise hit on my Sword of Night and Flame hybrid caster build, the boomerang effect has proven to be very useful, infact during my first try at the Commander Nial fight on my most recent playthrough I had it hit one of the Banished Knights on the way out and hit the boss himself on the way back. I'm looking forward to the upgraded version, even if it won't be the most useful due to the fact that Holy damage is crap in the endgame.
- Anonymous
Can you still get this if Corhyn dies before he gets to the other NPC?
- Anonymous
It’s actually very good, though niche, in pvp. For an actual fundamentalist just use triple rings but this single ring is good for faith builds who chose 13 int and very high fth like me. This can cause chaos in conjunction with elden stars or crucible spells. My favorite use is to cast this then cast barrier of gold/regen in the middle of a duel. Yes bestial sling is better but bestial sling is cheese. This is honest and allows some very interesting frame traps when it comes back. It’s also easy to free aim since people will just walk left to dodge instead of rolling and eat it.
Has unlimited range on return, and will still penetrate all enemies, but it still goes away on contact with terrain. Could be somewhat abusable, if there were any way to travel faster than it, which there isn't, as far as I'm aware.

This bad boy + Erdtree Greatshield would do tons of damage with very low cost
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Costs 2 more FP than Halo Scythe spec while being worse and requiring intelligence to use.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
anyone know why it doesn't stop skeletons from resurrecting?
- Anonymous
As of 1.04, the cast speed on this thing is still too slow to be useable. Also given its small shape compared to Triple rings, there's nothing about this spell that really shouts "yes, this has clear reasons to use over other spells."
- Anonymous
After the buff, this is now the most damage/fp efficient spell in the game on single targets. It's not that close, either, hitting between 150% to 200% as hard as other contenders like Slicer, Pebble, Sling and Catch Flame thanks to hitting twice per cast. It has longer range than all of them, too, and it's even better against crowds. The downside of this is that the cast time and dps are bad compared to the other workhorse spells, and by the time you can get this you should have more than enough flasks to stop caring about pure fp efficiency.
- Anonymous
Yes, this is missable, but the triple rings of light look a lot better. Seems to be the same cast time and the triple rings cost 23 FP, whereas this costs 11. So it's less than 3x the cost for 3 rings and the triple rings are bigger, too. That spell is found in haligtree.

- Anonymous
Your own discus can be deflected with the Erdtree Greatshield.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
(PvP) Cast this a couple times then chain into triple-rings when the opponent tries to strafe, they have the same animation so you'll catch them off guard. Funny little trick although will probably only work once
- Anonymous
MISSABLE!!! in my playthrough i found corhins bell bearing on the bridge where goldmask once stood. and now i cant buy the disk anymore!!
- Anonymous
75 faith +10 golden order, Discus of light does around ~1600 damage if it hits twice to enemies without any crazy holy resistance. Great against slower enemies / bosses, especially for its FP cost.
- Anonymous
Really good against flame tanks. You can just throw it at their front and the boomerang effect will hit the driver.
Bored and was messing around with the erdtree GS, apparently you can parry your own discus of light once it returns back to you. Had 35 dex so I was able to cast 2 and parry each one. Works with carian retaliation as well.
:/
- Anonymous
Still pretty much outclassed entirely by lightning spear in both PVP and PVE, and that's even if it hits twice, or once for that matter. In PVP it can't be used to combo with anything bc the combo breaks down the second the target decides to strafe. Triple Rings is much more useful for setting up roll catch combos.
- Anonymous
As of 1.04 it does great damage, low FP cost, can be spammed, holy, and a low INT requirement you can meet with Marika's Soreseal. It only does like ~5% less damage than Radagon's Rings of Light which has less range and the 3 rings usually can't hit the same target at the same time.
- Anonymous
This spell can be missed unintentionally. Isn't sold with his ball bearing even if you progressed his quest beyond him meeting with goldmask at altus plateau. Didn't buy it at the time bc it was pre-1.04 and read it was not great, now went to purchase it with the ball bearing I got at the end of his quest and it isn't in there.

This spell can be cast for free using ancestral horn talisman + primal glinstone talisman + sacrificial axe in off hand. The damage is respectable but since it hits twice it one shots a lot of enemies while exploring giving back all your fp.
- Anonymous
After the latest patch Im gonna go out on a limb here and say this is the best spell (both sorceries and incantations) in the game for general exploration. Here’s why I think that.
1. It hits twice at good range effectively doubling its damage.
2. It’s is boosted by golden order seal making it the go to incantation for any int/faith hybrids (which I am, also using prince of death staff)
3. This is the real reason why it’s the best. It can be cast for free.
That’s right. Free.
Because it only costs 9fp, if you use the ancestral horn talisman + primal glintstone talisman + sacrificial axe you cast it for only 7fp and get all 7 back when you kill the enemy. Now normally a spell with such low fp cost couldn’t 1 shot most basic enemies, however because it uniquely hits twice it is capable of doing it consistently with that setup.
Anyway, hope you all enjoy the int/faith hybrid best spell.
- Anonymous
This is now the holy damage sniper rifle, and triple rings is a shotgun
- Anonymous
Does not prevent Those Who Live In Death from reviving, despite being a Golden Order incantation that deals Holy damage.
- Anonymous
something people have not mentioned: pre 1.04 you cast speed with Discus of Light was fighter when you used the seal in your right hand or 2 handed it while in your left hand. the cast speed is now uniform.
- Anonymous
Not to overstate this but if you build for holy damage this is probably the best damage-to-FP ratio in the game. At a whopping 9 FP one disc is hitting for 1600+ on a single godrick soldier outside the gatehouse Grace (this is with +10 golden vow seal at +373 incant scaling, flock canvas talisman, and sacred scorpion charm)
the 1.04 buff was insanely kind to this one. Faster cast speed, much more damage, lower FP cost. Folks, with the buffs to triple rings and radagon’s rings Fundamentalist builds might not just be viable, but be meta
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Holy cow the damage was increased by 41%. Triple version increased by 21% if only this buff came earlier in my int/faith playthrough.
- Anonymous
Sorry for the convoluted wording i just want to be as clear as possible and couldn't think of a similar wording without confusion:
As of patch 1.04 damage is almost 30-40% more, i want to say 40 but i couldn't accuratly recall how much i was doing last night but it was in the 250-300 range and now its in the 400s.
For cast buffs:
the speed your ring goes out and you can act out of the ring is only a bit but very good how much?. (This is with radgon's icon and 14 dex so 44 cast dex) Last night i tried to use a ring of light on a heavy archer between shots. I used the incantation immediately after sidestepping an arrow, i was hit by the next arrow just before i could roll from endlag. Now i can safely avoid the next arrow after firing the ring.
Without radagon icon (so only 14 cast dex) i can only barely dodge in time before getting hit by second arrow. If im able to dodge the next arrow without a 30 casting dex bonus then having it equipped ore patch and still getting hit means i have 10% less commitment, but the patch notes say there was reduced endlag so the cast time buff is probably not 10% since some of it is coming from endlag
- Anonymous
Give this a better cast time, damage and tracking on release so I can play Xena the Warrior Princess.
- Anonymous
There are a lot of cool potential holy damage incantations in the game and we're stuck with useless stuff like this.
I've noticed a few:
-Pillars of Light from big annoying flowers
-Holly shooting spheres from Erdtree Avatar
-Radagon's holly spells
-Some of Elden Beast's spells (I was really hoping we'd get a holly damage incantation from its remembrance)
I hope we can make use of Sacred Scorpion Talisman while buffing both weapon and useful incantations damage someday.
- Anonymous
This could have been a great incantation but they just somehow made it terrible, like why do sorceries work so well and this is what holy gets? I love the idea of a faith/int build around this but its too underwhelming damage wise.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Beyond mediocre incantation, especially considering the array of other more useful options available to faith builds. The only redeeming thing about this incantation is that the cast animation is kind of goofy.
- Anonymous
Weird bug(maybe) i experienced, documenting even if spell is garbo.
Never saw the spell in his inventory after finding him by Goldmask on Bridge.
Found them on cliff, where he had new spells but not discus. Reload, come back to cliff, and now he sells it.
- Anonymous
I respec’d my lvl 90 faith build to accommodate this spell, thinking this would be a game changer because of the low mana cost and presumably fast cast speed… man was I wrong. It’s slow, easy to dodge and weak as hell. Sorry faith users… this isn’t the spell you’re looking for.
- Anonymous
made it even worse than the ds3 version, why would they get rid of the multi hit stop? it's what made the one in ds3 so fun and melt certain bosses. if they keep the fact it stops when hitting a wall AND had the multi hit, it would be frickin schweet
- Anonymous
For whatever reason this casts faster in your right hand than left. The speed difference is very noticable' but this incantation still isn't that great.
- Anonymous
For whatever reason this casts faster when starting up the incantation in the right hand. But if you gotta use the discus then use triple rings.
- Anonymous
Compared to DS3 the damage is even lower and its even slower to cast, but hey, at least it doesn't vanish when it hits a wall.
- Anonymous
Ok it's official, Miyazaki actually does intend for this to just be a useless joke spell for memes and nothing else. Way of White Corona was not a fluke after all.
If you play a Faith build in PvE you simply *have* to have this move on your belt, gets so much better too as your stats increase
