Dragon Heart is a Consumable Item in Elden Ring. Dragon Heart is a Consumable Item which cannot be consumed but is used to trade at the Church of Dragon Communion for Dragon-based Incantations.

Dragon heart seized by a dragon tracker.
Riddled with Gravel Stone, this grotesque organ continues to beat vivaciously.

An offering used in the Dragon Communion.
Consume a dragon's heart at the altar to make its power yours.

While a terrible and savage-looking thing, the heart has a peculiar beauty to it.

Dragon Heart Location in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Dragon Heart Uses

Trade 1 Dragon Heart for the following at the Church of Dragon Communion in Limgrave:

Trade up to 3 Dragon Hearts for the following at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid - You will only see the spells if you have defeated their associated dragon:

Elden Ring Dragon Heart Notes & Tips

  • The player can obtain 23 dragon hearts on NG cycle, however only 20 are required to purchase all Dragon-based Incantations.
  • Used to interact with the statue at the Church of Dragon Communion to acquire several Dragon-based Incantations
  • Communion with dragons will slowly turn you into one, as such your eyes will reflect this after you purchase 5 Dragon Spells. If you want to keep these special eyes, you should not obtain the bloody finger or be touched by the three fingers, as these will overwrite the dragon eyes.
  • According to the item descriptions of Magma Breath and Magma Wyrm's Scalesword, those who partake Dragon Communion would eventually turn into a Magma Wyrm. However, regardless of the amount of hearts you have consumed, aside from the cosmetic change on your eyes, you do not actually turn into a Magma Wyrm.
  • Dragon Hearts cannot be sold.

now that i mulled over it, i'm down for a dragon/wyrm form in the dlc even if it looks like ds3 level garbage (i know that's the point nerds but still) just so the lands between adhere to the will of a bipedal psuedo dragon abomination now and forever

Ok so this is clearly the bad advice wiki, you can 100% NOT take advantage of higher elevation. The rot breath will indeed hit you.

For anyone who want their lost dragon eyes back, it's not the fastest way, but you can go into ng+.
it removes all alterations, but the dragon communion church has copies of all starting breath spells even if you already have them all, so the eyes can come back with a few hearts spent. That giant dragon Greyoll was an easy way to get the dragon eyes back.

i miss demons in these types of games, imagine a dmc type demon form after eating enough demon hearts of something like that

            • Are "Magma Wyrm found inside the Volcano Manor Legacy Dungeon" and the one in the "video link" at the bottom (which is clearly a magma worm in the Volcano Manor Legacy Dungeon) not the same one? If they're not the same, then there are 2 Magma Wyrms in that dungeon. That seems unlikely (although I have not yet been through there myself, so I can't say for sure). If they ARE the same, then there are only 22 hearts listed, but it says you can get 23, so one is missing.

                Dragon heart Stew:

Preheat the oven to 325°F and set a rack in the lower middle position.

Pat the dragon heart dry and season with the salt and pepper. In a large Dutch oven or heavy soup pot, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium-high heat until hot and shimmering. Brown the meat in 3 batches, turning with tongs, for about 5 minutes per batch; add one tablespoon more oil for each batch. (To sear the dragon heart properly, do not crowd the pan and let the meat develop a nice brown crust before turning with tongs.) Transfer the dragon heart to a large plate and set aside.

Add the onions, garlic and balsamic vinegar; cook, stirring with a wooden spoon and scraping the brown bits from bottom of the pan, for about 5 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook for a minute more. Add the dragon heart with its juices back to the pan and sprinkle with the flour. Stir with wooden spoon until the flour is dissolved, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the wine, beef broth, water, bay leaf, thyme, and sugar. Stir with a wooden spoon to loosen any brown bits from the bottom of the pan and bring to a boil. Cover the pot with a lid, transfer to the preheated oven, and braise for 2 hours.

Remove the pot from the oven and add the carrots and potatoes. Cover and place back in oven for about an hour more, or until the vegetables are cooked, the broth is thickened, and the meat is tender. Fish out the bay leaf and discard, then taste and adjust seasoning, if necessary. Serve the stew warm -- or let it come to room temperature and then store in the refrigerator overnight or until ready to serve. This stew improves in flavor if made at least 1 day ahead. Reheat, covered, over medium heat or in a 350°F oven. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.

Note: If you don’t have a Dutch oven or covered pot that is appropriate for the oven, the stew can be cooked on the stove. The timing will be the same and it should be cooked over the lowest setting.
Freezer-Friendly Instructions: The stew can be frozen for up to 3 months. Before serving, defrost the stew in the refrigerator for 24 hours and then reheat on the stovetop over medium-low heat until hot.

                Enjoy or dragon heart stew!

Would have been cool if the transformation meant something more other than being merely cosmetic. Like for example giving added arcane incant scaling with the tradeoff being weak to weapons that deal extra damage to dragons.

For those complaining about how you can’t do the bloody finger thing questline without losing the dragon eyes, you can toggle eye effects in Roundtable hold at the mirror in fia’s room or at rennala. Weird that y’all didn’t know that.

The two video links refer to hearts elsewhere in the list. The first referring to Ainsel River is off Glintstone Dragon Adula, and the second is the Magma Wyrm of Volcano Manor

"If you want to keep these special eyes you can not obtain the bloody finger or be touched by the three fingers, as these will overwrite the dragon eyes"
how do these game developers get approved for anything besides lobotomies again?

                        • Anonymous

In the dlc they should add a dragon quest line with two choices: Either hunt more dragons for more power, but become a wyrm and get hunted (like scales and stuff idk) or revert the effects of eating the dragon hearts and hunt down dragon communion members for some good gear and armour (you have to hunt all dragons before you start the quest line)

Can you only change your eyes once??? Had dragon eyes then fked it up when I did varres questline. Went to buy the last dragon spell I didnt have yet and eyes didnt change back.

I think they should add a wyrm form in dlc, like the transition between still human but becomming even more wyrmlike, also add a frenzued flame fire breath, that would be beautiful ❤️❤️

There should be a merchant that trades you rare stuff for dragon hearts. This way you have a reason to hunt dragons even if you don't need the draconic powers. Now they just collect dust in my inventory

I got all of the dragon incantations and still have 4 hearts with a few dragons left to kill. Is there another communion available after Caelid?

Wonder what the lore implications are for only the neo-dragons and wyrms giving the hearts. The hearts have gravel-stone, a characteristic of the ancient dragons, interestingly enough.

This whole time I assumed Glintstone breath scaled off INT, but its the same as the rest, pretty disappointed!

I’m pretty sure there is a Wyrm looking thing at the bottom of Stormveil castle that drops a dragon heart too isn’t there?

Just in case anyone is wondering, there's a total of 23 hearts but you only need 20 to get all incantations since the 3 you can get at Limgrave are also available at Caelid.

After killing every dragon in the game and buying 13/14 rituals i still have 2 hearts left. The final ritual is from the remembrance so it shouldn't cost any hearts

What do i do with them?

I swear there's a secret third dragon communion somewhere that hasn't been found yet... that or there will be a new dlc with it in... Really want full dragonification transformation!~

Between this and Godfrey/Godefroy and Malina/Malenia they're just teasing us

A quick question about aesthetic effects of using the hearts. Next to the eye change (which has been brought up enough already), does anyone else notice that the characters face changes slightly? Especially the nose, it's now really thin and long and I can't seem to change it even in the rebirth tab, the sliders really don't take effect at all...

                                                    • Anonymous

Does anyone know if eating too many dragon hearts changes the ending you get in this game? I haven’t traded in for dragon spells because I found an npc that warned about consuming dragon hearts. That you’re doomed to become one or something like that. Was wondering if you end up turning into a dragon at the end, not that I’m opposed to it. I’m just trying to work on age of stars ending.

Came here after the sad realisation that my magic only character is now a scaly. Had no idea about the effects of my heart eating hobby, so RIP my human tarnished, she will be missed.

There is a big white Dragon on Altus Plateau, that is not listed here. It disappeared before I could kill it so someone should verify it drops a dragonheart.

Came here after I noticed my eyes were dragon like. Not sure if it's the total amount of hearts traded that triggers the change or how many dragon spells you get, but I had fire breath, the decay breath, greyoll's roar, and the magma shot; Didn't notice an eye change till I purchased the magma shot. Also, does anyone find it annoying how a bunch of the wyverns are called dragons along with the actual ancient 6 limb dragons, while the Magma wyrm isn't? He has 6 limbs and isn't a snake dragon, just found it weird with the loose classifications considering the past souls games.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Just take the other elevator a bit down and walk into the magma cave. Struggling to get enough magma hearts rn. Pretty sure I unlocked all dragon incantations but rn i am missing 4 hearts. Killed all dragons on the list and at least 1 more

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • There are two unnamed dragons behind the elevator by the moonlight alter, that's where to get two more hearts if you need two more after doing all the dragons listed here.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Using 3 of these for dragon incantations change your eyes yellow with a slit and getting the festering body finger will turn your eyes red. Would just appreciate a page to keep track of all things that will change eye color like that.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                      • There's a magma wyrm (does not have a boss health bar) in volcanic manor who drops a heart. From Prison tower church, go to the bridge to the left (need to unlock the shortcut first), and then turn right at the end of the bridge. Take 2 lifts down and you'll enter an area where you can fight him.

                                                                                                        • You can buy Greyoll's Roar at the cathedral for 3 dragon hearts after killing Elder Dragon Grayoll (The huge dragon next to Fort Faroth)

                                                                                                            • Anonymous
