Elden Ring Dragonmaw Notes and Tips
- Updated to Patch 1.10.2. See Patch Notes for details.
- Deals more damage and has more hyper-armor than Dragonclaw, but the latter has a follow-up attack and can be chained into itself when power-stancing seals.
- A well-timed Dragonmaw can dodge enemies with ground attacks such as Godfrey and Radagon.
- Other notes and player tips go here.

NPC invaders and recusant targets have no idea how to properly dodge this. Doing my first Dragon Communion playthrough and basically ate my way through Volcano Manor's assignments because everyone just kept approaching me during its wind up and then got munched. 10/10, would cannibalize Diallos's brother again.

Don't mind me, just theory-crafting for future:
+15% offhand communion seal
+15% golden vow
+20% dragon heart
+whatever blue dancer charm may give around 8 miyazakilos
+10% damage taken by enemies by greyoll roar
all of this casted by 80fth erdtree seal, giving 2216 BEFORE these boosts
Any boost I missed which can be used practically?

Majority of dragon Incantation revolves around dragon mouth which make this less cool. I use dragon claw as it feels like I m using other parts of dragon too especially when it's just melee kind of skill.
Man it feels like the game punishes you for being cool and edgy

The secret is to forget about other dragon communion incantations.
Dragonmaw is just that good.
Good old hyperarmor and knockback, nothing beats it, i am right, my fellow dragonheartmunchers?

Lightning bolts? God-slaying flame? Divine piss magic? Children's toys, let me bite the dude's head off

Hands down the funnest I've had fighting Radagon and Elden Beast! I absolutely wrecked them! The I frames and hyper armor are so clutch!

Dragon form + blue dancer talisman + flock canvas talisman + dragon communion seal = other worldly levels of damage
- Anonymous
This absolutely wrecks Tarnished NPCs. 95% of the time they run right into it and get knocked down, just repeat until they die. Have wrecked all the Mausoleum fights so far in the DLC this way

I love eating Gideon like this. I just begin munching on him when he's giving his introductory speech, and I don't stop until he's dead. Poor guy doesn't even get to drink his flask. This is by far my favourite "NPC cheesing" spell in the game

****ig busted. The hyper armor + damage lets you trade positevely against bosses while being underleveled. Was expecting my incant only run to be alot of catch flame but instead its a lot of nom nom nom
- Anonymous
So satisfying to "no u" the other dragons in this game by biting their head. Elden Ring really does have the coolest spells of all the souls games.

How much damage do they get from the faith scaling of a seal specifically as opposed to the arcane scaling? anyone know if they even get any? i havent tested the damage of dragon communion incantations when purely boosting the faith.

Dragons do not have problems. This is because every time something resembling a problem appears before one, they have a very simple, straightforward solution no matter what it is: just bite its head off.

does anyone know if dragonmaw gets boosted by roar medallion?

As a Vigor Examinator I can proudly say that this spell is the perfect implement upon which to judge whether someone has adequately levelled vigor or not. 10/10 would recommend
- Anonymous
This spell was my answer to every single spammy agile boss in the game, including the whole DLC
Screw it, if you don't have enough room to dodge and weave normal spells in, slap Golden Vow, Boiled Crab, Dragoncrest Talisman and and Opaline Hardtear and just hyperarmor your way through bosses while trading favorably with thm using this.
Rellana? Barrier of Gold + Dragonmaw means I just bit her to death while face tanking her combos. Messmer? Flame Protect Me + Dragonmaw and just tanked the ****er. Final boss? Divine Fortification + Dragonmaw means I ate a god too.

one-shotted a host with 2.5k HP, but tbh if you get hit by this you kinda deserve it.

Chews through NPC invaders like nothing else for 3 years, god bless dragonmaw
If you bite a dragon in the face with this to finish them off, it gives an automatic 50 points to your characters invisible "badass" stat

incredible pve spell. more damage than ripostes in most cases if you're not relying on dagger talisman and punishes lengthy boss phase transitions like malenia or morgott

Got one shot by this midair while falling. Tracking is insane on this thing. RL 60, 40 vigor. Not sure if being near greyell's roar but not being hit by it still debuffs me enough to get one tapped by dragons maw though.
- Anonymous
This right here is my favorite thing ever, in the history of forever! I think about this every day, I think about this all night long. I stay awake not sleeping because I'm thinking about this.
- Anonymous
This incant is very effective against Malenia! Stuns her as long as she's not in certain attack animations. Works very well with frost breath to increase her damage received. Definitely one of the easiest Malenia fights I've done.

Is this buffed by Flame Grant me Strength?
What about Axe Medallion?
Or any Physick for that matter?

grey roar+dragonmaw on the crows in blood swamps did 4.8k+ damage. 30 faith/45 arcane +10 communion seal.
- Anonymous
just did 4k+ on the giant crow in the blood swamps mohg area. Nice move if you know when to use it, in this case, after the crow did that ground charge he does when he flops on the floor, did it right when he stopped, did 4k damage and stance break.

why the **** this does 45 stance damage while costing 34 FP again... like if there weren't enough easy modes already
- Anonymous
50 FTH / 55 ARC and with the Dragon Communion seal I am one-shotting people in PvP, even if they are moderately geared (full Bull-Goat or the usual sweaty Veteran's Set might survive one hit)… but in general this incantation, when they aren't expecting it, will destroy just about anyone in PvP. And you love to see it when sweats get mad.
In PvE it does extremely high poise dmg and dmg in general. And if you die to this in PvP... well, it's probably one of the easiest things to avoid or punish, like most Dragon incantations.
- Anonymous
Hit a mf with this in arena at RL 137 for 1881 damage. Mind boggling tbh
- Anonymous
a must-try on any blue dancer build, the damage is game warping lmao
- Anonymous
how did I play for more than 700 hours without trying this out, literally eats knights for breakfast, and anything human sized that survives the first chomp is now on the floor only to get immediately chomped again the instant they get up

the highest dmg single hit incant, mv of 628. Oh also 45 stance damage lol. Dragon goes CHOMP

- Anonymous
The wiki is wrong, this thing only does physical damage, not magic. tested on the troll outside of godrick, and magic boosting items did nothing while blue Dancer worked
- Anonymous
Godfrey second phase cant grab you if you're in the cast animation
- Anonymous
Back when the arena first opened and united combat was an instant-join, you could use this spell to chomp someone as soon as they respawned if you timed it right. Fortunately you have i-frames during that window of time now. But man, the memories.
- Anonymous
I would also be that hangry if all I had were drinks. Tarnished gotta munch on something......
- Anonymous
This should not one shot my full bull goat 70 vig tank build with max defense talismans and buffs. Needs a massive nerf before people become enticed by this stupid one shot cringe spell.
- Anonymous
Stake Driver if it had a way better hotbox, hyper-armor, and turned you into a giant dragon head.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
About the lunge you get when you do a breath attack after... does that serve any purpose? Like, does it make the breath do more dmg or give it more hyper-armor? Or it's just a quirk?
- Anonymous
Use this during the Godfrey/Loux fight any time he is winding up for the arena-sized shockwave attack. In phase 2 he double slams so you need to time it a little differently than phase 1. You avoid the damage and chomp the chieftain at the same time, good good stuff

When I see a furled finger using this I know they're the kind of player that would sacrifice themselves to get the host to the finish, ballsy spell, respect

Wish dragonmaw had a charged cast to mess with timing in pvp and do more stance damage in pve.

How to start every run right:
start prophet
grab flail in gatefront
run down to siofra and grab marika's scarseal
run down to fort faroth in caelid and get radagon's soreseal
spin2win on greyoll for ez runes and dragon hearts
run to the church and buy big chomp
chomp everyone
become elden chomper
- Anonymous
after some calculations, found out that this has 5.66 incantation scaling which is insane, you can easly one shot people in arena with this badboy
- Anonymous

Good for invasions or 3v3 chaos, but loses most of its usefulness in duels unless you're fighting a very dumb person
- Anonymous
Nifty little visual glitch with this one, if you don't input any movement after casting dragonmaw, the startup animation for agheel's flame (or similar) is changed to that of dragonmaw's. Most people instinctively run away from dragonmaw, but run towards agheel's flame to punish. Do with that information what you will.
- Anonymous
I hit someone in the arena for nearly 2k damage on my 45arc/30faith build this thing is nutty absolutely insane hyper armor and crazy damage balanced by the fact that it is rather slow and hard to land but when it hits it hits like a train love it.

This thing has ridiculous damage and easily accessed. Deal purely physical damage, gain ridiculous superarmor when used.

It appears Dragonmaw and Dragonclaw are 100% physical damage
Just tested both Dragonclaw and Dragonmaw at patch 1.07.1 on troll near Secluded Cell grace
Naked, Dragon Communion Seal (303 spell buff) resulted in 1970 damage
Equipping Magic Scorpion Charm and using Magic Crystal Tear don't increase damage of both spells
Holy, fire and lightning tears also don't increase damage
I think "Deals physical and slightly magic damage" in the article needs to be corrected

Absolutely amazing in pvp. One shot or almost one shot max level hosts with a **** ton of armor, if they’re spamming the breath incantations especially the mid air ones this is an amazing punish. Only downside is if someone charges you you fly right over them, looks kinda funny. You can also combo this with dragonclaw, cast dragon claw then maw. All around one of my favorite incants in the game.
- Anonymous
Haven’t tested it on Waterfowl Dance yet but this will knock Melania on her ass every time it connects, not sure if it can knock her out of Waterfowl though. You could potentially stunlock her with this.
- Anonymous
This is stupid good for duels. At lvl 150/60 arcane with dual dragon communion seals I’m hitting 1750s casually and one shotting most opponents. It takes a while to learn the timing and spacing but this thing slaps once you have it down.

My personal favorite "go screw yourself, would you kindly" incantation to deal with some plain bullshit game encounters. Interrupts even crucible knights (ate the duo crucible knights & crucible knight plus lion misbegotten "bosses" just fine heh), knocks omens on their asses. Can in fact hit several lined up targets as well. Correct spacing is the key. And in the worst cases - stacking of physical defense buffs so whoever you are fighting wouldnt kill you before the animation is over.

Besides doing some of the highest immediate damage in the game of all the spells, it does loads of poise damage as well, often staggering enemies to where you can get a follow up attack, or even another Munch. Just have to use good timing. Learn enemy attack patterns so you can imitate it immediately after baiting an attack to compensate for the long windup time.

Melted Elden Beast at 36 faith, 35 arcane. Dragon communion seal +10
- Anonymous
Definitely one of those showy moves that makes you want to use it, but also wonder "where the hell am I supposed to use this?" A long cast time for huge damage, but on an arcane build you'd have bleed anyways to maul bosses, and on a faith build you'd have access to black flame incantations (or just a weapon with natural black flame, like Maliketh's). Why cast this when you can cast Flies, in both PvE and PvP? But who are we kidding -- you're totally going to try to chomp someone with this anyways, aren't you?

Already have The Claw... So, with a single heart, do I go with The Maw? Or, The Breath (Scrot or Elemental?) OR... Save it until I have a 2nd heart for "Smaug's Halitosis"?

I'm letting the cat out of the bag...dragonmaw absolutely slaps in PvP. You heard me. If you use any sort of dragon breath attack first then enemies will usually charge the second go around, that's where dragonmaw shines. It can be used situationally if you can time the range right. You also can adjust your aim a moderate amount while in air charging the attack. It's buffed by flame grant me strength, stack that with golden vow and 1 or 2 dragon communion seals and you will 1 hit everyone. I have killed dozens of people like this and can't remember a time it didn't 1 shot someone. 2k+ damage. Under used and oh so satisfying.
- Anonymous
The amount of people I’ve one shot with this because they were expecting Agheel’s Flame only to get hit for like 2k damage is hilarious, since hardly anyone uses this in pvp people will panic roll when they see it which is pretty much just a free kill, plus it can be chain cast after dragonclaw which makes it a nice alternative to the normal follow up attack that it has
This incant does a roar sound, does the roar talisman boost it?
