Notes & Tips

  • Multi-scaling seals such as Clawmark Seal, Frenzied-Flame Seal, Dragon Communion Seal, and Golden Order Seal only use the Faith scaling portion of their incantation scaling for weapon buffs and healing incantations, and will therefore not boost damage as much as their incantation scaling would initially imply.

The absolute Abductor Virgin destroyer. Put this on claw or fist weapon then 2H it and it doesn't matter if its upgraded or what your stats are, you'll stance break that POS in a couple taps of L1

coolest looking buff animation and it's unusable on most non whetbladed weapons because they already have elemental damage or can't be infused regardless, amazing

            If you haven't yet:
Use cragblade set to sac/faith on the star fist after buffing w/ golden bow AND flame, grant me ... even as a sh***y player it absolutely melts bosses

            • Anonymous

gonna use this with 2h bloodhounds fang cuz staves are big and clunky and bloodflame requires 3 arcane point dump

So I've been doing an NG++ playthrough with a Claw build that utilizes this as the main DPS buff (alongside Golden Vow). Since this buffs both claws in hand, the lightning damage numbers are effectively doubled every hit - this absolutely destroys enemies weak to lightning.

I did some testing with all the upgraded catalysts I have in my save file, and with 80 Faith, I got these numbers using the below catalysts:

                +10 Erdtree Seal ---> +265 lightning damage
                +25 Godslayer's Seal --> +247 lightning damage
+25 Gravel Stone Seal --> +239 lightning damage
                +25 Giant's Seal --> +230 lightning damage
+25 Golden Order Seal --> +183 lightning damage
+10 Frenzied Flame Seal --> +157 lightning damage

I did not have an upgraded Fingerseal, Clawmark Seal or Dragon Communion Seal; Fingerseal should perform about the same as Giant's Seal, but Clawmark and Dragon Communion Seal have worse Faith scaling and will most likely give terrible numbers.

So if you're planning to maximize the lightning damage coming out of this incantation, use the Erdtree Seal. This got my lightning claw build to deal somewhere around ~600 bonus lightning damage per attack with Golden Vow and Lightning Scorpion Charm. Otherwise use something else if you plan to cast offensive incants.

When attacking with a weapon buff active, the buff itself is counted as an additional hit, on too of thr stack you used, meaning winged sword Insignia, cracked tear and prosthesis will activate in half as many hits.

So take your godskin peeler, and initiate encounters using 2HrR2 into R1, if all hits connect, you've just given yourself a massive damage boost in less than two seconds.

                  • Anonymous

it says the Gravel Stone Seal is the best Seal to use for this Incant because buffs only scale with the FTH portion of scaling, the Gravel Stone Seal caps out at 250 Inc Buff, but Finger Seal caps out with 254, and the Godslayer's Seal caps at 257

Why are these only good on daggers/thrust swords? No wait. Why are these only ok on daggers/thrust swords?

So in case anyone wondered, the Canvas Talisman do not seem to strengthen the additional damage of the buff spells. In a way disapointing, but then again if you play a normal caster build you dont rely on these at all probably since your weapon with faith scaling will outperform anyway (given you use any weapon other then seals that is).

                        • Anonymous

Weapon buffs are kinda weak. But this is the best one.. better on builds that can take advantage of them situationally and that tend to not need the buffs anyway

                          • Anonymous

On an unupgraded Finger Seal at base requirements it adds the same damage as Lightning Grease & the buff from Lightning Slash (85). At 99 faith with a maxed out Erdtree Seal, it should add 275 lightning damage. A Lightning Pot at 10/10 str/dex does 297 lightning damage and costs 0fp, without Companion Jar Talisman or Jar Helmet damage boost taken into account (all numbers are rough calculations, I suck at math and could be wrong somewhere).

Wait last I was on this page gravel stone seal did improve the damage, was this shadow patched or did it just take us this long to realize that?

                              • Anonymous

Very handy for a knight build. As a vagabond you only need to put 1 point into faith and then have the Two Finger Heirloom to boost your faith from 10 to 15. On top of that you can get 17 faith by using the Haligtree Knight Helm which allows you to use Black Flame Blade. This is very good for very high health targets.

                                Stay happy Tarnished!

Is there a formula for calculating the elemental damage applied from enchant incantations that takes faith level and seal bonuses into account? For example, how would I calculate how much lightning damage would be applied by Electrify Armament with a specific faith level and the Gravel Stone Seal +10% to Dragon Cult incants?

Assuming I'm using the Finger Seal, at which point does this incant overtake Lightning Grease in terms of potency?

Since the lightning infusion via Ashes of War scales off DEX (I believe), do you get more damage out of this if your DEX is higher, or is it strictly based on faith/incant scaling?

                                      • Anonymous

Old lord's talisman is worth it for this alone. The duration is ridiculous, you'll never have to worry about rebuffing in almost any fight

i still use this instead of black flame blade for my black flame build. Simply because this has 90 second duration compared to 6 second of black flame blade. Ridiculous.

According to the numbers here and my Incant Scaling (360 with Frenzy Seal), I should be getting a bonus of 270 lightning. Instead I get 147, is there something I'm missing here?

                                            • Anonymous

With the numbers given and my Scaling(350 on Frenzied Seal), the bonus lightning damage I should be getting is 262ish and I only get 144. Is there something I'm missing?

                                              • Anonymous

The ideal usage for this is a situational buff on a hybrid build.

For example, at your basic hybrid [STR32/FTH32] you enchant a heavy weapon with this situationally to get a much higher amount of damage than you normally would by faith scaling a sacred weapon at [STR-req/FTH50+].

Obviously this may be weapon dependent and requires testing on your own end once you find a weapon and damage type you enjoy. As a quick example: I run DEX FTH with a winged scythe and black knife, however, I also run a keen talon sword that I will electrify to utilize the double attack R2's worth of flat lightning damage. The output from this is higher here at 32/32 than it would be at 14/50. Slap square off on there and you now also have poise break.

Hopefully you can see where this is going in terms of creating a strong and versatile hybrid using enchants. Note: Both int and faith have two separate damage pools, cold/sorc versus fire/lightning. While there is no scaling debuff for FTH, lighting is a common universal weakness which evens it out in my opinion.

Another note: You WILL get higher damage from sorc armament at this time. This may change, but for now sorc arm is the darkmoon blade of Elden Ring.

Gravel Stone Seal doesn't appear to do anything.

Heavy NSS +25, 22 Str, 80 Fai, Gravel Seal +24, Incant Scaling 312

Electify Armament (supposedly boosted by Gravel Seal): AR 578

Order's Blade (not boosted by Gravel Seal): AR 578

So as a STR main with only 15 points in Faith using the Clawmark seal is it pointless to use this incantation then? Seems like it only adds a tiny amount of damage that isn't really worth it for the FP cost. Am I wrong here?

                                                    • Anonymous

Only 15 faith requirement, adds a good modifier. I think this is partially slept on. Lightning infusion caps at C scaling in Dex. What weapon do you think would be best to use this on? Something thar roll catches surely. We can still use an ash of war on the weapon.

                                                      • Anonymous

There should be a fire enchantment and fire should be a status effect that once built up ignites the enemy for some damage over time similar to black flames.

                                                        • Anonymous

I love that unlike most if not all of the other weapon enchantment incantations and spells, this seems to be able to be used on any type of weapon, where as most if not all of the others can only be used on blade type weapons.

making this much more versatile. Wish the others were like this also.

Also does anyone know of an incantation that enchants a weapon with fire in the same way? I know theres a incantation that waves flame and then you can swing a weapon at that flame to apply it, but is there and actual fire weapon enchant?

In not, thats a huge oversite and needs to be corrected.

Okey so lets make this clear for yall:
Lightning incantations including this buff scale of faifh. ONLY ashes of war lightning affinity is dex scaling. How can lightning incantations scale of dex if there are no actual dex seals and on top of it buffs from incantations (seals) increase ONLY from faith. Good luck

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

I’ve been using this since game launch. Kept it to myself since I wanted something kind of unique. But I can confirm that fists, claws, and twin blades work best. When you two hand them both fists get the buff for the flat damage.

Even better when you use a crossbow like pulley crossbow each bolt gets the flat damage so I 1k+ damage with pulley bow and electric bolts unbuffed. you heard it here first folks

                                                                    • Anonymous

Need to test a bit more but I think these buff spells really shine with fists weapons, they seem to get the full damage on each hit so the quick 1-2 jab attacks effectively get twice as much of a boost. Claws are good too but they don't get quite as big of an increase.

                                                                      • From my tests, Electrify Armament causes Virgin Abductor enemies to stagger way faster like, on my Gargoyle Twinblade +23 the first VA in the Volcano Manor area takes ~12 hits+ to stagger, but with Electrify Armament it only takes ~5 hits. But this is the only mob I've found yet that interacts this way. It says that VA has -20% lightning resistance, but I'm not entirely sure how that translates to over twice as much poise damage. I tried it on trolls and giant land squirts so far without seeing any difference at all. Wonder if anyone has any insight into this.

                                                                        • Anonymous

Just so it’s clear, this incantation is most useful for melee builds that have invested a small amount of faith to be able to cast this. If you’re a pure faith build, fth/dex, or str/fth, an infusion is better.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Am I missing something with this one? I have to waste time casting and spend FP, but in the end I get lower AR than if I just use Sacred affinity (60 FTH and +10 Erdtree Seal). 75% is way too low if even passive damage from scaling outweighs it.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

The scaling bug applies to all seals and all scaling other than faith. Running an int faith build and getting worse buff with my golden order seal than with my godslayer seal despite the better scaling. It only applies faith scaling.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

However, the Faithful's Canvas Talisman DOES NOT boost the damage of the spell.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

The flat incantation scaling from upgrading your seals DO increase the buffable amount, and so does any faith that scaled by the seal. What does not increase the buff damage is hybrid seals which scale incantations with stats other than faith. So, Clawmark's strength scaling and Dragon's Communion Seal's arcane scaling will not add to the buffable amount. This also applies to other armaments such as Bloodflame Blade.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Thus Erdtree seal is always the best.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Man it kinda sucks to hear that it only really scales with Faith and Faith scaling over the Incant Scaling like with any other buff. I'm really hoping this is just a weird glitch of sorts, because this would be a fantastic buff for other hybrid faith builds like Str/Fth or Fth/Arc if they could just make it scale off of Incant.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Even if you have minimum FP you''l be able to cast a lot. Besides the damage buff, it's OP to have almost all kinds of damage to buff your weapon on str build.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Tested with Erdtree Seal and GSS both at 140MagAdj and the latter gave a single point of lightning damage more than Erdtree. Obviously escalates at higher upgrade levels.

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Not sure if the dragon cult talisman bonus work on it, but with same bonus and Faith, using the finger seal give +91 damage and dragon only give +82, so it probably not.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

So this incantation isn't compatible with weapons that have an ash of war (you can't activate it on your right hand weapon if it has an ash of war, basically). And just through my testing, for my build, vs Vow of Indomitable it only increases your dps by a fraction of a percent. Now, if you actually activate Vow, Vow will net your more damage by a miles. So, in the end, I'm not so sure if this is that great for your main hand if you're wanting to add holy damage to it? Maybe someone has better insight?

It has this spell along with a few other lightning ones once you give it to the priest. It's a bit of a tough fight but good luck!
