Erdsteel Dagger is a Dagger in Elden Ring. The Erdsteel Dagger scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for short range melee combat.  

 

An erdsteel dagger with a grass crest engraved upon its blade. Carried by the Erdtree royalty for self-defense in times of peace. 

Though forged to a high standard, the weapon is difficult to wield. 
Attack power also scales with faith.

  • Erdsteel Dagger can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 200
  • Unique in that is the only weapon with default faith scaling weapon that can have their affinity altered, thus giving it a total of four stats to scale with (Str, Dex, Fai and either Int for the Cold or Magic affinities, or Arc for the Blood, Occult or Poison affinities). However, its scaling and status build up on anything but the Sacred or Flame Art affinity will be extremely poor.
  • One of 3 weapons that can scale with both Intelligence and Faith in the entire game the other two being Clayman's Harpoon and Sword of Night and Flame.
  • This weapon has a unique R2 moveset shared with the Blade of Calling and the Black Knife, that performs quick double slashes.
  • Doubling up on the Faith scaling of this weapon with the Sacred or Flame Art affinity will yield the most damage for this weapon on a Faith build. This will also outperform using a non-elemental infusion with Faith scaling buffs such as Black Flame Blade or Order's Blade at the same level of Faith.
  • Since two of these are available in NG, and its unique property of faith scaling, certain builds may be able to take advantage of powerstancing this weapon.
  • With no affinity, the faith scaling contributes to the physical damage of the weapon along with its dex and strength scaling. If the weapon is given a faith scaling affinity, the faith scaling will contribute to both the physical and elemental damage of the weapon.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, the speed and distance of some attacks has been increased and the recovery time has been reduced.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.

    • If your mind is quick enough and you're good with spacing, you can go crazy with the two-hit R2's on this dagger. Keep in mind that you're thrust forward a bit too, pair it with Millicent's prosthesis and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia for even more damage. I personally either use sacred blade, Flame strike, OR impaling thrust( < if you're using spells for buffs). All three of those are really good for combo's into R2's, albeit if you're close enough. (Yes even storm stomp works, though I'm not using it with that.) Two hand the dagger for more poise damage when you need it. Again, if you're quick enough to catch them, you can go for two R2's on an opponent.

        These babies, with a 80 Faith build and Flame Art infusion + Golden Vow + Flame Give Strength and the stacking damage talismans = 1300-1400 AR when stacked. Literal colossal sword damage at the speed of a dagger.

          I'm gonna try a flame art power stance with these. Running it through the calculator, with Flame, Grant me Strength and Golden Vow on an 80 FTH build, you're hitting 777 AR with both the daggers before even factoring in Winged Insignia and Physick.

              Shortened version hand of malenia that is no less deadly, the movesets actually mimics Malenia's normal attacks. Good for dagger only NG+ runs with Malenia cosplay.

                It has faith scaling so it works well with faith melee builds because you can buff it with stuff like blood flame blade or black flame. Or you can put flame art/holy on it if you don’t use weapon buffs. The downside is that with the fact that it’s a dagger which is pretty much cope. But it would probably be busted if they made a katana like this tbh.

                  Two of these are insane at high faith in pvp, 75 faith, Millicent Prosthetsis, rotten wing sword insignia, sacred scorpion charm, put on golden vow and black flame protection to help offset the scorpion charm. Nobody expects it and you shred someone with L1s, sometimes they will just swing something heavy and poise through but they die as it connects

                        This is an excellent back up weapon for Faith builds.
                        I use it to chase down folks on the arena and slapped Flaming Strike on it.

                            So far using it as a side weapon for my pure Faith build and I am not disappointed.
                            1) Very low wielding requirements, as a Prophet all you need is two extra points in Dexterity.
                            2) Very easy to get one early on from Kenneth, and can get a second later if you fancy a powerstance build.
                            3) Extremely high AR (for a dagger) on a pure Faith build with Sacred/Flame Art infusions, including physical damage.
                            4) Two very useful Sacred AoW (Golden Vow and Sacred Blade) can be found in Limgrave without fighting any boss.
                            5) Synergizes incredibly well with "Flame, Grant Me Strength!" should you infuse it to Flame Art once in Caelid.

                            All in all an amazing pre-boss, early-mid (and potentially late) game weapon for the pure Faith incantation enthusiast.

                                The Erdsteel Dagger, supposedly, benefits from getting better FTH scaling if you infuse with Sacred or Flame Art, (due to having inherent FTH scaling that gets boosted.)

                                Without actually making direct damage comparisons in-game, it's difficult to tell exactly how much better one weapon is than another at a given letter grade of scaling. For example, there are 6 different daggers that have B scaling in FTH when maxed out and infused with sacred or flame; Erdsteel dagger is one of them.

                                Without actually booting up the game, the quickest way to compare similar weapons with the same scaling grade, is to see how low of an upgrade level they need to be to get that grade. Most daggers don't get to B FTH scaling until they're upgraded to at least +12, while the Erdsteel dagger only needs +10. HOWEVER, the bog-standard Dagger ALSO reaches B scaling in FTH at +10, and has better base damage in all damage types when compared to the Erdsteel dagger.

                                It stands to reason then that the regular Dagger might actually do better damage than the Erdsteel version when infused with sacred or flame, and I plan to do some testing to at least get a rough idea of if this is true.

                                  Sacred affiny powerstance with sacred blade ash of war is OP on pure faith.
                                  Lightning affinity with lightning slash ash of war is OP on pure dex.
                                  This is because the 85-90 elemental damage is actually massive on daggers!

                                  If you want to get an optimal damage build for daggers and are at a higher level the highest AR you get get is the following:
                                  80 faith & 80 dex, erdtree seal, electrify armement.
                                  This will add roughly 275 lighning damage while getting the buffs from the A tier dex scaling and some bonus damage from the D tier faith.

                                    Idk how to edit this, but this weapon has a surprisingly powerful strong attack. Slap the axe talisman and a weapon buff (or status ig) on it, and you have a dagger build that can compensate for the range!

                                    • So I've only tried this thing out in PVE so take it with a grain of salt, but I've found I actually prefer this in the primary hand powerstanced with a greatsword. Mostly I was thinking of a way to utilize winged sword insignia and the charged R2 is perfect for it but I hated how you couldn't really stagger enemies. You can stack it and keep up the buff with greatsword swings in the off hand however, on top of that you can even set this to bleed and give your greatsword(flamberge) seppuku and you can even do a sort of status build because of the multihits from this really stack up the status.

                                      Can do a similar set up with cragblade, chilling mist, or flamestrike on your greatsword, been having a lot of fun with it since I can buff with the ash and don't really need the slow cast time of spells. Might test out some other stuff!

                                            So, I want to do an Erdsteel/Reduvia dual wielding build in a faith/arcane build

                                            Erdsteel in main hand cause with sacred blade ash of war and faith scaling it slaps, and I can both do holy damage and building bleed simultaneously.

                                            I am sad to understand that bleed erdsteel is not viable since it doesn't scale in arcane as it is supposed to do.

                                            Should I continue my build anyway, faith erdsteel and Reduvia, split my stats arc faith 50/50? Could it work for PvE?

                                                Hands down favorite dagger and one of my favorite Weapons in general the heavy attacks are amazing at breaking stance and traveling,with the sacred blade ash its damage sits comfortably at 630 without any buffs with my flask and vow i could hit for 800 split, trivializes undead and most things if you dislike holy go flame art flame strike and you gain even more ways to stack damage monstrously powerful for low investment physically.

                                                  Assuming you are crazy enough to try and pvp with daggers, this is the best one in sheer damage. On Sacred and Flame Art infusion at 80 Faith you deal 548 damage, and while fire defenses are naturally pretty good, if you opt for holy damage you will deal around 40 more damage per hit after defenses are applied than the next best thing, a Lightning infused Great Knife at 80 Dexterity. Playing for bleeds on Reduvia is probably better, but if you are bored of proccing bleeds this could be an okay alternative.

I really hoped to fit this dagger into my str/ faith build. It gets A scaling for physical infusions and still everything else in the game will perform better. What a shame.

                                                      If you copy the Sacred Blade AoW and apply it to the two Erdsteel Daggers you get in a playthrough, At 80 FTH both daggers will have an AR of about 650 when both buffs are applied. Sacred Scorpion Charm, Rotten Wing Sword Insignia and Alexanders Shard Would be the best 3 Talismans to increase the damage output. The Old Lords Talisman will extend the duration of the AoW buff from 40 seconds to 52. A Physick comprised of the Holy Cracked Tear and Thorny Cracked Tear would pair well with the talismans. And as a FTH build you further buff yourself with incantations. Altogether you can easily obtain an AR over 1000 for a total weight of 4 units. Only downside, Holy Damage.

                                                      • In case anyone's considering a cold infusion on the merit of the r2 alone, just don't. Int scaling on most cold infusions is pretty terrible since the base magic damage it pulls from is always too low. If you want a cold dagger, I highly recommend using the great knife or bloodstained dagger instead. Your raw AR is 86-98 higher, and when status is factored in you'll actually see 85-92 more damage a swing when averaged.

                                                        Now if only they'd fix the occult scaling.

                                                          I have this on my third weapon slot at +25 with Bloodhound Step, it is very handy to have off hand when trying to avoid damage and using spells and incantations.

                                                          • On a 55 str 55 fth build, this has a base AR of 347 with a heavy infusion. Buffed with Electrify Armament using Godslayer Seal (clawmark has higher incant scaling but only counts fth towards weapon buffs so Godslayer outdoes it) you get a total AR of 552. Conversely a Flame Art or Sacred Erdsteel Dagger has an AR of 510 on the same build. With an ash that provides a weapon buff like Sacred Blade you'll likely get similar AR with higher unbuffed damage, but the damage type versatility of relying on incantation buffs (especially with the obvious synergy with Bloodflame Blade with the multistrike R2s) means that so long as you keep this buffed it'll actually be better to physically infuse this on a hybrid build so it remains buffable. On a pure faith build at 80 fth and otherwise minimum stats, it has an AR of 546 with Sacred or Flame Art but only a buffed AR of 524 with an Erdtree seal, meaning the article is correct that on a pure faith build this is actually one of the few weapons that is better to not use incantations on since the faith scaling applies to the physical damage. So on a hybrid build, buff with incantations and physically infuse, but on a pure faith build use Flame Art or Sacred.

                                                                    a property of this weapon that isn't communicated until you use it in game is that when you infuse it with flame art or sacred the b scaling in faith actually applies to both the physical and elemental side of the weapon. comparing it to the great knife in my game for example erdsteel has +90 to both physical and holy while the knife gets +30 to physical and +100 to holy.

                                                                          At 80 FTH this lil guy with a flame art or sacred infusion will start to embarrass the Black Knife and Blade of Calling as a direct weapon, but of course L2s are more important than R1s and R2s this go around. Still, if you have mostly holy incants attuned, you can infuse this with fire to cover the gap, and vice-versa.

                                                                                      Despite showing scaling for bleed/poison/occult paths it has ZERO effect on the weapons AR but yet it still affects the bleed/poison buildup.
                                                                                      Hopefully they address this in a future patch as this is the ONLY weapon in the ENTIRE GAME capable of scaling off both faith and arcane.

                                                                                        50 Strength 18 Dex 46 Faith Sacred Erdsteel does 1846 on a backstab yet Lordsworn Sword despite having the same Crit modifier and hundred more AR it only does 1440. Sacred Dagger did 1946 and rapier did 1729. Bloodstained 1698. All of these were +25. Misericorde +24 did 2024.


                                                                                        So long story short, Daggers weapons have an extra special Crit modifier beyond what it says. On paper, Lordsworn SS should hit harder than any of the other 110 Crit daggers due to its much higher AR but in fact hits the lowest on a BS. Rapier having a slightly higher AR and 130 Crit was still outdone by Erdsteel, Dagger, and Miser by a decent margin.


                                                                                        If you are looking for a weapon that can function as both a Crit swap and a usable back up weapon Rapier is your best bet. And of course if you are looking for Crits only weapon Miser is still the best. If you want functional Elden Bling, Erdsteel and Dagger still work perfectly fine.

                                                                                              This thing becomes pretty bonkers with a sacred or flame art infusion. It gets physical damage from faith scaling, and giving it one of those two will make your faith apply to both physical and fire/holy scaling. The heavy attack is also unique, and hits twice each time.

                                                                                              Not the strongest weapon in the game, but easily the strongest dagger in the game when used by a high faith build. Only problem is its arcane scaling is bugged, so it won't work on a dragon communion build.

Not that it would be all that useful (far better Occult dagger options, even for FTH/ARC builds), just that the Occult affinity straight up cuts the base damage and scaling, but doesn't actually add any Arcane scaling whatsoever. At 12/12/99/99, Occult Erdsteel Dagger +25 has a godawful 202 AR, which is the same as 12/12/99/1.

                                                                                                      I hope they don't nerf this dagger, since without relying on bleed or some art of wars most dagger weapons feel very underwhelming, at least let us have fun with this one.

                                                                                                        Please never use abbreviations in a wiki when explaining something. If so, define it first like "New Game+ (NG+)" to mark that its called that way from that point on.
                                                                                                        But providing text, explanations or descriptions with that is making it harder to read and find proper info, as often abbreviations are super subjective or even worse, double or triple until you have several terms called the same way.

                                                                                                          The faith scaling on this dagger boosts physical damage no matter the upgrade path. Now the interesting part is that with sacred or flame art paths, it greatly boost physical damage and elemental damage nearly equally. If you've invested into faith then you most likely have access to both Golden Vow and Flame, Give Me Strength. So with Flame Art infusion, add in the fire scorpion talisman, the flame crystal tear & Flaming Strike with those spells and this little thing because a real powerhouse, I was at 771 AR only with only a +18 dagger at 55FTH.

                                                                                                            I tested this with Sacred Blade on a VERY non-optimized build (I had like, 33 Str and 18 Faith) and it still wrecked some high damage with ''Sacred Blade''. This left a good impression, I might look back at this if on my Full-Faith character

                                                                                                            • For those wondering about the viability of int/faith quality builds, it does indeed work without using the sword of night & flame:

                                                                                                              Get two Erdsteel Daggers, frost infuse both of them, the right hand one should have Bloodhound Step.
                                                                                                              Get one Clayman's Spear, sacred infuse it with Phantom Slash for destroying poise and shields.
                                                                                                              Then add both the Prince of Death Staff and Golden Order Seal in left hand slot.

                                                                                                              Now you just need 12 Str, 12 Dex, and you're free to invest all of your points evenly into int/faith. You get access to all spells, your weapon AR is actually really good despite low scaling in one of the attributes, you have enough room to invest in vigor and mind, all while being able to stay in PvP meta range (125-150).

                                                                                                              If you wish to have access to the majority of dragon incantations as well, just get 10 Arc, and equip Marika's Soreseal tailsman, which you should already have since it basically gives your 20 levels for free across mind/int/faith/arc. This is my build anyway and I've had a lot of fun with it in PvP and PvE.

                                                                                                                Fantastic on a pure faith build. The higher faith scaling when given an affinity will still apply to the physical damage component, something unique to this weapon as far as I can tell. At 80 faith with a flame erdsteel dagger, you'll be doing 550 damage per swing, with half of that being physical. 550 with the dagger moveset! That's only a little lower than a flame longsword, but with a much faster attack speed. Wonderful weapon, I hope this isn't a bug.

                                                                                                                  Weapons with unique scaling like this and the Clayman Harpoon are very interesting. Hopefully they aren't a design oversight that gets patched eventually. Stuff like this makes me really excited for potential DLC items and how they could really bring out the potential for interactions between weapon properties and Ashes of War.

                                                                                                                      Its a rare weapon as it has default faith scaling but also can be infused or have its ash of war changed. Most faith scaling weapons cant be customised.

                                                                                                                        I'm curious how this thing with a faith build compares to a lightning misercorde with a dex build. The advantage of this weapon is that both physical and elemental damage scale with faith when using it. That advantage is already held by strength or dexterity builds with fire or lightning damage respectively. This thing has 248 base damage with B scaling on faith, the misercorde has 298 base damage with C scaling on dexterity. It is possible they gain roughly the same damage with their main stat when using mixed elements due to scaling being proportional to the weapons base damage.

                                                                                                                          Flame art or holy infusion allows the faith scaling to scale BOTH flame/holy and physical. It's like occult that enables arcane to scale up both the physical AR and blood buildup, but for faith builds.

                                                                                                                            i think this weapon is supposed to be the Paired elven daggers that Legolas uses in LOTR considering the similarities in appearance as well as the fact that you can get two of them per playthrough. i wonder why they didnt just make them a paired weapon like the Radahn Greatswords or the Ornamental StraightSwords.

                                                                                                                              For faith based affinities (even if u have an equally high dex and faith) this is indeed better than other daggers with higher base stats like Misericorde. (tested flame art misericorde vs flame art erdsteel, erdsteel better by 20ish dmg)

                                                                                                                                Occult Erdsteel Dagger does indeed not scale with arcane atm. TarnishedSpreadsheet on Reddit confirmed it doesn't have any arcane scaling flags set in the code, despite listing an arcane scaling on the equipment page.

                                                                                                                                  Can anyone with a maxed out dagger confirm if the arcane scaling works when infused to occult? I can only get one up to +12 so far, but the 3 points from Mask of Confidence has no effect (at 30 arc), while boosting str/dex/fth still works normally (albeit with very small bonuses). I have an Occult short spear (66% more base damage) at the same level gaining 5 AR from the mask's 3 arc.
