Chest Armor Wgt. 9.2

Eye Surcoat is a Chest Armor in Elden Ring. Eye Surcoat is a brown surcoat draped over chainmail designed to increase the wearer's Damage Negation. Eye Surcoat is an armor piece worn over or around the player's torso to obtain an increase of defense and resistance. It also changes the appearance as well when it is equipped. Some armor pieces may be available to both genders but may be slightly different for male and female characters.

Brown surcoat draped over chainmail.

The insignia emblazoned on the front marks out the wearer as the eyes and ears of Sir Gideon the All-Knowing.

You can get it without defeating rykard, it's on the ground. Just go around him but you will risk dying and losing runes.

This surcoat might imply that while Gideon tried to have ears and eyes everywhere, it had its limit when Rykar became the serpent and devoured his agent. Gideon probably had no news of Rykard's true whereabouts in a long while, as he describes Rykard as having a serpentine demeanour, which probably alludes to Rykard as a "human", and not a gigantic serpent yet. It's a fine nuance that I think shows Gideon's extent of knowledge. Surely he'd have told us Rykard was a gigantic monster otherwise.

I swear to god I got this in a cave. I wish i could remember which one it was but it was in a lit up side path with grass and plants in it, as well as a stronger enemy like an omen in it. That's all I remember but I sure as hell didn't find this in rykards arena.

I mean, if Henricus was a spy he must have been pretty ballsy to where this while pretending to be part of the volcano manor.

This surcoat belongs to Recusant Henricus, who wears it when he invades you all the way back in Limgrave. To my knowledge, no one else wears this.
I presume he was Gideon's man on the inside of Volcano Manor for a good while. Until he became family, that is.

This is part of the chain mail set, it's the exact same as the hauberk but with a surcoat over it, same with the blue variant of this. This should be considered as part of that set since this is the intended combination, along with the great helm, which should be part of this chain mail+surcoat variant set. There is also an invader npc who wears the great helm, surcoat, and the mail leggings and mail gauntlets, so I think it's safe to say this is part of that set.

This piece of armor is worn by Sir Henricus. He invades as a recustant early in the game, so when we reach Rykard later on he has probably become "family", hence why we find in in the arena.

Two point about this chest armor: First, you can find it during the fight if Rykard (or the serpent god) destroys a certain pillar (it's around the right of the boss' initial position). After the fight, that pillar is automatically destroyed, hence why you might only find it after the battle if you focused the fight on the left side instead of the right side. Second, some asked if this has gloves or leggings, but it doesn't as any of the surcoats in the game. The "Set" would have been if there would have been a Eye Knight Armor, then it would had gloves and leggings. The actual gloves and leggings for the every surcoats are the "Gauntlet" and "Chain Leggings". If you look closely, unlike the Knight Armor variation, the surcoats variation doesn't have color variation in its visible chainmail (if any). Each Knight Armor variation has a different tint in its metal, hence the various leggings and gloves that share the same tint while the surcoat are either all made of leather + some unique visual or the same (relatively) clean chainmail + an unique surcoat.

Interestingly it's in Rykard's arena. Possibly Gideon Ofnir served Rykard for some time. That's what Gideon in Jewish history did.

If you wear this during the fight with Sir Gideon, the insignia burns and resonates over your character's torso. I'm not sure if it is a buff or not, but someone should test this further.

So Gideon has spies everywhere and that's how he gets so much information on what's happening in the world? Well I guess he has 1 spy less now.

so this and the greathelm are apart of the same set, does anyone know if there's gloves and leggings that go with it?
