Faith is one of the Stats in Elden Ring. Stats refer to various properties that govern your character's strengths and weaknesses, as well as how they are affected by interactions in and out of combat. Faith primarily affects a player's ability to cast Incantations, as well as equipping the weapons required to cast them. It is one of the 8 Main Attributes that players can spend Runes on to level up, increasing the Stat's effectiveness and influencing their relative secondary stats. Stats such as Faith are an important aspect of character progression in Elden Ring.
Faith Stat General Information
- Faith (FTH) is a Main Attribute that is required to cast most Incantations. It is also a requirement to cast death Sorceries and thorn sorceries. It is a primary requirement for equipping Sacred Seals, which are used to cast incantations.
- Weapons in Elden Ring have a minimum Stat requirement that needs to be met before the weapon can be wielded. In the case of spell-based weapons, most of them require investment in either the Intelligence or Faith stats, or a combination of both. For example, the Finger Seal requires 10 FTH to equip. Some weapons may also require points in Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence or Arcane in order to wield.
- Weapons are also given a Scaling Grade denoting the degree to which they scale with an attribute. Each point allocated to the Faith stat increases the effectiveness and damage dealt by Incantations cast with weapons that have Faith scaling. A weapon with a Faith scaling grade of S will benefit the most from the Faith Attribute, followed by grades A, B, C, D, and E.
- Note that attributes will incur diminishing returns at higher levels, significantly reducing their benefits after a certain point with regards to weapon scaling. This is often referred to as the 'Soft Cap'. A 'Hard Cap' also exists in which additional points in an attribute returns little to no benefit.
- When scaling the attack power of a melee armament, like all stats, Faith soft caps differ depending on the weapon and the damage type being scaled. Scaling on magic, fire, lightning, or holy damage is always 20/50/80. Scaling on physical damage may be 18/60/80 or 20/60/80.
- When scaling the sorcery scaling or incantation scaling of a Catalyst, Faith soft caps differ depending on the catalyst. The soft caps can be 18/60/80, 25/60/80, or 15/30/45. The soft caps of Faith on each catalyst are as follows:
- Gelmir Glintstone Staff - 15/30/45
- Prince of Death's Staff - 25/60/80
- Staff of the Guilty - 18/60/80
- Finger Seal - 18/60/80
- Godslayer's Seal - 18/60/80
- Giant's Seal - 18/60/80
- Gravel Stone Seal - 18/60/80
- Clawmark Seal - 15/30/45
- Golden Order Seal - 15/30/45
- Erdtree Seal - 25/60/80
- Dragon Communion Seal - 15/30/45
- Frenzied Flame Seal - 15/30/45
- Faith is one of the Main Attributes that players can spend Runes on in order to level up. The ability to level up is unlocked shortly after meeting Melina for the first time near the beginning of the game.
Adding Faith Scaling to Weapons
On weapons that do not have innate faith scaling, players can obtain certain whetblades to add specific elemental damage and affinities to a weapon when infusing it with Ashes of War. Weapons that cannot be infused with Ashes of War cannot have scalings added.

Put down your staves and your blue rocks, and come join us in worshiping our big tree, or was it a fire god? Or rot god?
What do we believe in again?

I think faith should influence lightning resistance because lightning is the only damage type without a stat that increases its defense and also raising faith only helps with faith scaling while stats like intelligence and arcane boosts magic and holy resistance respectively.

I hope the dlc has a fight with Miquella controlling an ulcerated tree spirit and a leonine misbegotten using a sleep weapon that scales with faith and does standard damage called the Holy Slumber Whip

I have tried both builds in this game and I can say without a shadow of a doubt: Faith is better than int and arcane in every way possible. Faith gives you access to every damage type in the game and every buff you could possibly need. Both offense and defense. You might say: "Int does higher damage and arcane gives you instant status buildup with dragon breath!" But Faith can literally give you the same damage and status buildup at a more consistent rate without needing to throw your entire fp bar in the bin. Faith buffs are also way more reliable than terra magica ever could be since you don't need to stand still for them to work, which is a surprisingly dumb gameplan for someone charging up lazers when they're being shot at with arrows.
Is it bad for a level 155 person in the Mountaintop of the giants to have only 43 faith
Although I am a dex-faith hybrid

faith in previous games: I ****ing love god
faith in elden ring: I ****ing love the giant alien tree

I don't understand what they mean by the soft cap scaling. Can summon please explain it to me? I use a lot of dragon communion incantations so naturally I use the Dragon Communion Seal (also the coolest looking IMO). The soft cap scaling says it's 15/30/45. Is that good ?

I’ve tried making pure caster characters and every time faith has been more fun for me. While int has higher dps, aside from spellblade builds pure int often feels stale after you shoot comet for the millionth time. On the other hand faith has tons of versatility in both usage and visually. You also get access to multiple elemental damage types and even some physical damage with the bestial incants. The buffs are also really strong and can help improve your damage and survivability. Faith feels more like what I think of as a mage as you sling fireballs and lightning bolts at your enemy. The versatility and visual flare of faith incantations are phenomenal and really make playing faith builds quite fun.

Been doing a lot of mainly faith pvp/pve (lvl132 with 79 faith) and honestly the build variety kinda sucks in pve your really only using the buffs, stone of gurranq, black blade and catch flame (good combo with a bhs scythe) and pest threads for its anti vehicle capabilities. In Pvp the only thing I lose to is rapier poise cancer and str bestial sling spammers since for some reason their sling does way more dmg than a pure faith one. So hopefully we can get higher investment combo faith moves that make pure faith standout from all the other builds who just barely dabble in faith yet can get high scaling and use our best moves.
Praise Marika and thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

as of 1.09, the Great Club also scales with Faith; if somebody with an account could add it to the list here, that'd be dandy

You know, it's kind of annoying there aren't gloves and pants that give Faith or faith damage too...

I honestly love the difference between Faith and Int in this game. Faith is a very versatile stat that has lots of uses in different builds, and Int is meant to be the focus of a build. It's a pretty nice balance in my mind.

The Faith requirement for the Golden Order Greatsword is 28, not 18.
Kinda annoying how this page’s scaling chart for weapons only shows base values instead of +10/+25, as if no one plans on upgrading them.

Alr so I’m farming the palace approach albanaurics and I’m using a gold pickle fowl foot and the gold scarab talisman and getting roughly 7500 runes from each mob, next I use my physick flask with more holy damage and increased faith stat and now upon killing a mob I get 9100 runes. Does faith scale rune acquisition or is does one of the things in the physick doing something?

I don't believe you need to defeat radahn for the red hot wetblade as I just picked it up before killing him, maybe it just isn't there during the festival?

a: Which stat boosts holy defense?
b: Faith of course
a: why?
b: faith is the stat of holy clerics and paladins.
a: Nope, arcane does
b: What?? But that's about bleed.
a: I know, makes no sense to me either

So the Magma Wyrm's Scalesword will do even more damage if my Str and Faith are equal? Let's say 40 each

I remember in the beginning when people thought faith was weak, and damn they were wrong as hell. Best build variety in the game.

For all the drawbacks people complain of about faith, in pvp, there is nothing more annoying and broken as rock sling. At 80 faith, you get a near-instant, poise destroying, spammable shotgun which deals at least around 300 damage. if you fight a meta slave with bleed, one-shot weapon arts or, god forbid, a rapier/thrusting running attack spammer, just throw rocks at them and you win. literal rocks. you can't fight back against this stupid gorilla tactic. The incantation is too fast, has too much range and completely stops you in your tracks if you get hit. No melee build can stop a man with a shotgun, trust me, i have both used and received this spell.

Strength is the chad stat? Nah, this is the real gigachad stat right here.

imo the most fun and varied stat in the game. every new build i do ends up getting at least a few points in

I think I've got to respec after reading this, I'm sure I've seen mention of 60 FTH in relation to weapon scaling or AoW but I just tried to put a level into FTH but it shows as not making any difference other than using up my runes. so is 50 FTH the point at which it isn't worth investing any more into it?
- Anonymous
Sucks to be a faith main in this game, there’s too many build options to choose from
- Anonymous
If I'd read the wikis for all the weapons before I started playing, I'd only have put a bare minimum of levels into FTH. Every faith weapon is a load of s**t as far as I can see. coded sword has hardly any reach, the weapon art does but that isn't going to carry anyone through the game, golden epitaph is fine for undead or the one or two enemy types that are weal to holy damage and that's about it. I really enjoyed the dark souls games, and I obsessed over bloodborne. But the longer I play elden ring the more I come to dislike it, I got to the royal capital and that was pretty much it, I'd had more than enough by the time I got there.

Why no headgear with Huge faith attribute increase? Oh Man... we need a propor King crown with +5 faith!

In terms of incantations everything is good with faith.
Now in weapon department, oh boy: beside holy weapon skills that brute force through enemies defense by dealing insane damage, insultingly almost all enemy types and bosses beside skeletons have high holy defense (and i mean even zombies, slime, revenants and practically every 3rd enemy will have good holy defense), which wont be that noticeable in early areas and on regular game, but in later part and in ng+ cycles you might as well tickle them expect for fire giant and volcano manor and mohg palace enemies, that leaves us with fire/flame damage, which is good in almost any situation and has additional effects on some enemies, but just to make faith users sad all water including rain, pools off water ect gives +10% fire defense to you and enemies,if your very unlucky heavy rain gives outright 20% defense instead of 10....

One thing i wish this weapon table had, when sorting by scaling, is the weapon's scaling at max upgrades.
I usually sort by either str or dex to see if the weapon is better suited for a str-faith or dex-faith build, and seeing that 3/4 weapons have a D scaling in both stats is not helpful (For example blasphemous blade and blade of calling both have a D scaling in str at level 1, but we all know Blasphemous is good for str-fai, whereas calling is good for dex-faith). If we saw the scaling at max upgrade, it would be a lot easier to determine which weapon is good for which build.
I do not know how to edit wikis, and frankly I'm not sure how many people would agree with me, so leave a vote if you feel like this would be an improvement, or a downvote if you feel it will not, and maybe someone will take their time and edit it.

After testing both extensively I must say, incantations outshines sorceries by far. Maybe not damage-wise, but when it comes to variety und fun these both can´t compare IMO.
You have all damage-types AND all statuseffects in there and they all feel so different, whilst sorceries almost always feels like another kind of blue bullet or sword.
On the other hand i really don´t like the weapons. I use mainly small weapons like straight swords an a have to say, well, none of the weapons impress me much.

Greathood is missing on both this page and the intelligence page. It grands +2 to Faith and Intelligence at the cost of 10% HP

Faith seems a bit underpowered in pvp imo, the meta is currently churning a lot of moonveil/rivers users. Like A LOT. Bleed in general especially. The amount of arcane, and fire resist scaling directly with HP makes electric affinity the most valuable damage category for faith. But there are no weapons outside of holy and fire for faith, and if you want to use lightening arcane seems to have more potential because of the dragon communion seal having a much higher damage potential, and arcane scaling up buildup on spells. Almost all the incantations from remembrances need a buff.

I'm pretty sure if you try to level this up Miyazaki will storm into your house and piss in your face all the while shouting insults about the Healing Church and "that ****ing Gwyn and his scam."
- Anonymous
Maybe a stupid a question, but just to get it straight in my head; which damage types scale off of Faith?
Holy, Fire, and Lightning?
- Anonymous
Faith was a pretty clean play through. There are some pretty insane weapon arts on the faith weapons, Blasphemous Blade can really carry you through so much of the game. I also found my trusty black flame fire bolt to be very reliable in helping to keep a safe range and chip big chunks out of bosses. The main downside I see in the faith weapon arsenal is a severe lack of any type of build up weapons. Very few have bleed and none carry frost that I am aware. Of course this can be overcome with weapon arts.

the Greathood should be on the list of items that boost faith
- Anonymous
This comment is here to serve as a poll. For those of you who don't know, heal spells only scale off of faith, my friend thinks that they should scale on all stats. Upvote if you think it should stay as FTH only. Downvote if you think it should scale off of ALL your seal stats.

The Bolt of Gransax is missing. It's a legendary faith weapon.

Underwhelming and near useless skill for PvE as most bosses are twice as resistant to Holy than any other source of dmg.
Much better suited for PvP I'd say.

How does faith modifies Bloodflame Blade, Black Flame Blade or Poison Armament ?
Or even Poison Mist or Bloodboon ? does it make it stack faster? last longer ?
Black Flame i could guess it makes it tick harder (?), las longer? any info? Ty

As someone who pumped Faith up to 40 to 50 somethin and later on 60 during my first playthrough (lvl 80-90, 130) I advise peps invest first in str/dex first as dmg dealing tools first, my playthrough had been incomprehesibly lateral by using WA on Blasphemous Sword and Black Blade mid to late game.
Some incants are good dmg dealers, usually the most basic ones like lighting spear or black flame, giant's flame deserves an honourable mention, great if you manual aim
Otherwise most others you'd attempt to use like 36 40 Faith lighting stuff can be stunned/downed while casting, highly situational even in PVE not to mention PVP.
Personally I use swarm of flies in combination with honed bolt in PVP with success. For the current meta, I recommend only using flame-art or sacred scaling on backup weps for purely their WA e.t.c (Flame of the Redmanes). Against bleeds and bloodhound step, you need a higher and reliable dmg deterrent. If you prioritzed pumping up you build with faith first you'll be trouble.
Faith in elden ring works quite like in real life, if you only employ faith, coupled with nothing, you could only pray your enemies made some kind of mistake you could exploit. Thus end my rant

For incant scaling, Faith seems to have a soft cap at 60, and another at 80
Tested with a +25 Finger Seal (S Faith Scaling) and looked at the incant scaling value each time I put a point in Faith. Every point of Faith added 3 or 4 points of incant scaling (average 3.25) to 60 Faith
After 60, the average dropped to 1.9 per point of faith up to 80
After 80, average 1.3 per point of faith
Good to know if you want to make faith caster and need to know where to stop.

Faith is cracked, my current build I can get up to 27 HP per tick regen and 22 HP regen of that I can give to allies as long as they stand in the circle of my shield weapon art. I also have absorptions stacked giving me 56 absorption at full hp. I just get hit and regen back to full very fast. Also don't sleep on perfumer tricia summon while playing solo. It keeps giving you bubble shield that massively reduces you and his damage taken from one hit. Mimic summon is funny but perfumer tricia is godmode too.

Soft Cap for INT and FTH for specifcally weapons seems to be around 50. You can obviously put more points into it, but only every 3rd or 4th is actually going to get you more than +1 increase in attack rating. Tested it with the Darkmoon Greatsword and Royal Greatsword for INT, as well as the Inseperable Greatsword and the Ciper Pata & and Coded Sword for FTH.
- Anonymous
Does faith affect the increase in spell duration? For example, casts of poison, blood, dark flame and other effects on weapons? Especially little with 18 faith holds me, the spell Black Flame Blade.
- Anonymous
Faith is not insane at all i know il get downvoted but its the truth and im talking about pvp literally the only reliable pvp skill for ppv is lightning spear and thats it all other skills only work in very cliche situations not to mention there arent many faith weapons at all unlike with sorceries who got alot of int weapons and alot of really good pvp skills who you can hit reliable faith is literally z tier in this game for pvp

I'm an atheist, and every class in the game has at least a little bit of faith, please from software create a class with 0 faith for atheists to play.

Faith is insane in this game, you get great weapons, dragon, lightning, crucible, beast, miracle, dark and fire magic. Like what the actual ****
A 60 seems to be a softcap for Faith. Emphasis on "a", because I may have hit one before I started actually looking at the numbers. I was consistently getting +12 damage/level with a setup on the same enemy with the same attack etc (except for one weird bit that was +11 between the 12's, but was probably due to decimals or something), and going from 60-61 I only got +7.
I'd assume that means 60 is also a softcap for the other damage stats (Str/Dex/Int), but that's purely speculation.
// Just learned I can edit my posts, no way. Just wanted to add, I had skipped by 50 in my testing (if you see any of my posts claiming 44-62, it was actually 52-62, had a mix-up when moving from the notepad), so it is possible that 50 is also a softcap. I didn't test anything else other than spell damage. So, weapon scaling and other gains may indeed have a soft at 50. Or somewhere before for that matter. But as far as the spell damage went, 60 was indeed it.
New edit; I'm on the rebirth menu now. Past 20 it goes a bit back and forth for my weapon between +1 and +2 per level. At 50 it alternates between +0 and +1. So seems like the spell casting softcap is actually different.

noob question here: is a weapon buff (e.g.: bleed incantation) levelling up with Faith or it just relies on the weapon's base damage ? thanks !
