Fallingstar Beast Combat information
- Stance: 100
- Parryable: No
- Is vulnerable to a critical hit after being stance broken
- Gravity type
- Weak spot: Face and rump (+50% damage)
- Damage: Standard, Strike, Pierce, Magic
- Inflicts Hemorrhage
Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Elden Ring Fallingstar Beast Boss Guide
Fallingstar Beast Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Fallingstar Beast:
- Any Throwing Pot can be used to hit its face while it charges to knock it to the ground
- Use ashes that deal elemental damage, like Glintstone Sorcerer or Twinsage Sorcerer
- Use the Hoarfrost Stomp skill as an easy source of elemental damage
- Almost all of its attacks do Physical damage, so bring a Shield with 100% Physical Resistance
Melee Users
Play it Safe: Fallingstar Beasts have high defense, lots of health, strong attacks, and quick movement. Focus on staying alive and learning to dodge its various attacks. Try to stay two or three boss-lengths away and wait for good openings where you can get in one or two attacks, particularly on its vulnerable face. Even when it raises its head, you can often hit its face with a jump attack.
Critical Theory: When you break Fallingstar Beast's stance and get the opportunity for a critical hit, don't take it right away. It'll stay down for four full seconds, during which its face is totally vulnerable. Get in a couple good whacks before you do the critical hit by using heavy attacks or jump attacks to avoid triggering the crit too early.
Magic and Ranged Users
Dodge and Weave: The most important thing to do is avoid death. This is a long battle against a strong foe, so focus on learning to dodge or block its attacks and only get in your own damage during one of the Fallingstar Beast's long recovery periods. Be patient, don't get greedy, and eventually you'll take it down.
Fallingstar Beast Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Head Swing | Swings its head in various directions to hit the player with its mandibles | Maintain distance or dodge toward its sides and get a few hits in while it finishes attacking |
Tail Sweep | Pivots, may pause for a bit, then sweeps its tail along the ground to hit the player | Wait until you see the tail actually make contact with the ground, then roll through it |
Hind Stomp | Rears onto its front legs, then slams down its hind legs. Usually used when you're behind it | Dodge backwards when you see its legs fold up towards its torso |
Fore Stomp | Rears onto its hind legs, then slams down its front feet (and sometimes its head as well) | Roll backwards and don't try to punish this, just wait out its combo |
Gouge | Spreads its mandibles and shoves them into the ground, then rips them up while moving forward | Roll diagonally forward and to the side |
Bite | Hops back and turns its left flank to you, clicks its mandibles together, then swoops down counterclockwise to bite you. If it hits, lifts you up then slams you down | Dodge right as soon as you see it start to swoop down, then unlock and get in a few hits on its vulnerable face |
Rock Throw | Jams its head into the ground, then jerks it out throwing forward a spray of rocks | Either guard or roll forward through the rocks. The rocks fly far, so be ready to roll no matter where you are in the arena |
Rock Sweep | Rears its hind legs into the air as it pivots, then sweeps its tail along the ground in the same direction as its pivot kicking rocks into the air | Move towards the Beast and the rocks will often go over your head on their own, but roll into them just in case |
Beast Roll | Backs up, then jumps into the air and curls into a ball. After hovering for a moment, crashes down towards the player | Roll to either side as soon as you see it start to descend, then get in a few hits while it recovers |
Gravitas | Rises onto its hind legs, then falls down with a burst of purple magic which pulls you in if you're nearby, then raises its head and summons rocky spikes out of the ground around it | You can sprint away when you see it rear up, but this attack doesn't do much damage so it may be worth just trading hits |
Gravity Bolt | Its mandible glow purple lightning as lightning gathers under your feet, then lifts its head and calls a small cluster of stone spikes up where the lightning lingers. Does this once more in a small area, then finally in a much larger area | Sprint to avoid the first two hits, then sprint to the edge of the area of the third hit and roll as you approach the boundary. Try to end up near the boss to get in a few hits as it recovers |
Charge | Lowers its head, opens its mandibles, and paws at the ground with its front hoof before charging full-speed towards the player, doubling back twice | Roll to either side as it approaches, or else hit its face with any attack that deals any amount of stance damage (including spells and throwing pots) to cause it to fall to the ground and give you time to get in several hits |

Blazing bull but actually good, genuinely one of the best beast-like enemies.

A note for dodging the attack where he pulls spikes up underneath you three times: if you want to sprint out of the third one you must be going completely straight. I recommend unlocking your camera if you want to take that approach, since you may end up moving in a circle around the boss which will end with you getting hit.

Playing cautious at a distance and waiting for an opportunity to attack was frustrating and fruitless for me. First time I got up close and aggressive I beat him. His close range attacks are much easier to handle than his range attacks.

was reading the Malformed Star info and saw how it's possibly a "cocooned", pre-form of whatever Astel Natural Born of the Void is. What if the Fallingstar Beast is the "Caterpillar" form? Or maybe the juvenile caterpillar since there's also the Full Grown Fallingstar Beast.

worst enemy ever conceived i'll fight a 5v1 revenant gangbang before i fight another one of these

One of the worst bosses in FromSoft history. I applaud them for this

i beat him with pure melee without spell and summon, but you need a 99% PHY damage negation shield. it's definitely not crazily hard, but his AOE and head thrust can be a pain. the tip: when he charge just roll to the right side. when he summon the gravity bolt ,just roll the first two bolt and immediately run from the 3rd AOE quake, don't roll the 3rd one because it's undodgeable. his jumping roll attack is easy to dodge so no issue. sometimes he will head stomp ,just roll backward and block because his stomp is going backward but sometimes follow by a large AOE tail sweep so need to be careful. when he raise his head and move his mouth ,immediately roll backward because it's a grab attack. BLOCK all his tail sweep/rock throw , it won't much damage to stamina. and final tips, move FAR AWAY from wall. sometime he will charge at you and immediately follow by a grab. if you're hit by the charge close to the wall, the camera will likely messed up and the grab attack would be inevitable.

I took him down with a combination of the Night maiden's mist sorcery and the rot stray spirit. He went down within 30 seconds second try. Just stay out of the mist clouds (panic rolled into it first try), dodge roll and stay far away while the dog attacks. Only needed 2 flasks to regain health. At +3 my dog was still alive when he went down, and the boss was rotting away, such a good doggie!

If you are a MELEE user listen to me:
Use SHIELD BASH when he is CHARGING towards you, it is almost unmissable and you will NOT take damage AND stagger him for 4 seconds. This is much easier than coinflipping your attack on his head. Don't greed though because as soon as he gets up he does the swipe attack.

ah yes caelid and their annoying wish to force you to fight a massive enemy on a small room

Ranged magic can really help to trivialize this boss - even with his matador-esque bull charging at you, this goes doubly so if you have anything to take its aggro away

If you're going melee without any kind of summon/ashes, and you're using a greatsword or heavier, it isn't worth trying to get in any more than one attack per opening. You'll have enough time for a non-charged R2 and to get out of there. Learn to dodge its moves and be wary of its combos, and be on the lookout for the charge (he can charge back and forth 1-4 times), the beast roll (the jump attack he does; just remember that after he lands, he will continue to roll until he hits the edge of the arena, after which he does an upward head attack), and gravitas; he has very long recovery from these moves and are your best opportunities. If you space gravitas out perfectly, you can safely get in two R2s, but not the version that has two smaller crystals that spawn first as he seems to have shorter recovery from this one than the standard one that's just an AoE around himself. Remember that if you time an attack properly, you can knock him down by booping his snoot during the charge too.
I found staying too far away from him wasn't worth it. I was hoping it would bait out either the charge or the roll, but more often than not it just caused him to do the rock throw, which isn't really helpful.
I took him on with 30 vit and 44 str using 2H Lordsworn's Greatsword+4 and the fur set. My damage was fine, but he could 2 shot me with certain combos. Anything lower than that, and I could foresee this being quite a slog, so be patient. If you die, the run back is long, but pretty safe. The only time you're at risk of taking a hit is climbing the shortcut ladder; the bug on the roof behind you could use its projectile attack and hit you as you're climbing, but this only happened to me once.

One of the moves it pulls (that i stuggled with at least) where it clacks its jaws together and summons rock underneath to damage you 3 times, i figured how to dodge it reliably. Roll to the side on the first two when its about to bring its head up, and run away immediately after the second one to avoid the third. This attack has a good opening for attack since it roars for around 3 seconds, which i used to spam stone of gurranq. Hope this helps.

I'm hoping a smaller version of Fallingstar Beast becomes available for ash summons in the DLC.

I couldn't kill him until I stacked up vigor and high poise and just spammed eleonora's poleblade ash. But you're probably better off jump attacking with colossal weapons or great hammers

strats: use more elemental damage (fire/lightning/holy/magic) rather than raw physical damage, do not use ailments (bleed/poison/sleep/etc.).
"blackflame" or "destined death" hp reduction status will work well too since it eats %HP, bypass its high physical resistant.

fighting this boss at rl1 is like giving myself super aids, terminal brain cancer, every std in the world, and then proceededing to bash my head into a wall 1000 times over.
- Anonymous
Struggling with these things as a melee build? Try Meteoric Ore Blade since it's weak to gravity attacks. Gravitas comes with it by default and will flinch it every time it connects. Don't let the fact that it looks like a rock enemy fool you, head slashes still do high damage with the ore blade.

with shield with 100%block and guardcouters mixed with Giant Hunt aow, it's a peice of cake.. it's funny how when you block with great shield, beast hits you, you do backflip while still blocking. I never noticed that. maybe because I never played with shield :)

Ass to fight as melee(couldnt even reach it with my claymore half of the time lol), but all attacks are learnable at least. Feels like elden ring absolutely 100% requires you to at least have *some* ranged options. Never felt that need in dark souls
- Anonymous
Today I learned you can hit it's face while charging to knock it over. I get to be a matador now, this boss has become ten times more fun
- Anonymous
This boss blows to fight as melee, but less than 20 levels invested into casting and one or two blue flasks make it a cakewalk. Spamming pebble and staying across the room for it took me maybe 2 minutes to kill, and rot breath melts it.

Some advice for the crystal tunnel one: stay as close as possible, do NOT lock on. It wants to push you to midrange where it can charge and use tail and gravity atttacks. Up close, the head swipes and stomps have very poor hitboxes. If you're not locked on, you can just sorta stick to his belly and avoid the worst of the attacks, without getting spun in a circle from the camera whipping around trying to follow him.
If a boss freaks out and sends the camera on a joyride, try getting close and fighting without lock-on. It's hard but a lot of them are specifically engineered to kill you if you lock on.

The randomizer putting this thing instead of the Dragonkin Soldier in the Lake of Rot was the most painful experience I ever had playing this game...

Level vigor, use summons, level up your character. So many people trying to play this like the past games and not using the tools the game gives them.

You know this is one of "those" horrible enemies that people absolutely hate in a Fromsoft game because you'll spot the occasional comment of "lol it's easy you guys need to get good" type of comment.
Or you can play the game, get confused at how they made such a horrible bossfight experience and end up here trying to figure out the best approach.
It's weaker to elements than physical (if you're not a caster, you can use Ashes of War to get yourself an element, like Flaming Strike);
A shield with 100/near 100 physical resistance and nice amount of Stability might help if you're struggling with the dodging, though the gravity attacks will need you to run and time dodges well. You're also not going to be able to block too much because he sometimes applies bleed and you can't block status application;
Applying a status (Poison/Rot) might help quite a bit with the damage if you're able to survive long enough;
Finally, this isn't a guide or helpful hint comment on the bossfight, but none of the Fallingstar Beasts are needed to beat the game: all of them grant things you can get normally otherwise. If this is giving you too much of a headache, consider avoiding it. You can get your souls back by using a Sacrificial Twig talisman and if you don't have one of those, you'll get those souls back faster by avoiding the fight and continuing the game. Plus you avoid a headache and an unsatisfying enemy that doesn't even feel good to beat.

The one on Atlus Plateau is pretty easily cheesed on horseback. You can get a lot of free damage when he locks in place to cast the earth spikes, just keep circling him on horse and get free hits in. His tail swipe and charge are pretty easy to dodge as well when mounted.
The one in the Sellia tunnel is bullshit though, especially if you end up there quite early in the game. Janky hitboxes and a tiny arena.

I just found out they nerfed this boss, it doesn't do the second phase gravity AOE attack and beam attack. I honestly didn't have that much problem with this thing. I'm sure I died over 5 times, but I definitely know I didn't die more than 10. It was a bit tricky and required some luck. I always summoned the Spirit Jellyfish +3 to draw aggro, and even with my +6 Uchigatana I was able to deal significant damage with Unsheathe and stagger it for a critical hit. Definitely the most difficult boss I fought up to it, but not that bad honestly. I probably should've just left it for later, but I had a pretty decent amount of runes, and whenever I came back I noticed significant improvement in fighting it.

Literally the worst Boss so far for me in Elden Ring. It's like From Software has nothing learned from all the previous games and thrown the balancing in the trash with this one
- Anonymous
This thing's charge attack is unavoidable in the crystal tunnel under certain angles. Even when perfectly dodging the charge the attack lingers and is larger than the beast itself. If you are too close to the wall this can result in it just charging into it and hitting you in the recovery.
This boss is a terrrible fit for the Crystal tunnel, and whoever put it there should feel ashamed. It is clearly designed for larger open areas.

His hitbox is too big. Even a perfectly timed dodge can and likely will result in you getting hit because his hitbox lasts longer than your i-frames.
- Anonymous
Whoever said "use Hoarfrost Stomp" to quickly build elemental damage has obviously never actually tried to do so or they'd know that HFS is notoriously glitchy and will regularly not fire off the waves of ice if used in an area where the ground isn't even. There are maybe two tiny sections of the entire arena where using the stomp actually does meaningful damage. Instead,it normally hits for about 30 damage and gets you killed
- Anonymous
I find this monster very tough. It can kill me in one or two hits. I can't stagger it. I can't get to it's head. If I think I have an opening to attack, as soon as I hit the attack button, it dodges back out of range, then flattens me while I'm recovering. I can't shield all of it's gravity magic damage, and running isn't enough to dodge it either, only perfectly timed invincible dodge rolls. Immune to bleed. I can't maintain enough stamina to block it's combos. I've only ever beaten these things with Comet Azur and luck. I haven't found a good cheese strategy.
I'm trying a Greataxe build now, and want to kill this for smithing stones, but I'm not getting close at all to killing it. Will try a Giant Hunt or Piercing Fang Zweilander next, but I imagine it will just dodge back and kill me. Rot and poison pots and run away while it's health ticks down? I'm thinking it will despawn and lose the procs. If nothing works, will just ignore it and get the Smith Stone Ball Bearing from Zamor Ruins.

here’s how I did it in the tunnel, on patch 1.08.1 (the rot through the door was patched). Use a group sprit ash that’s leveled, I used demi humans +5, and a high damage elemental spell, I used dragon flame. when the boss is distracted by your summons, use your spells to melt him, finish with melee if needed, also bring a shield.

MEDIUM SHIELDS AND ABOVE are key for under leveled players! After hours of attempts, I beat this at RL28, with 2 Talisman Slots (Blue-Feathered Branchsword and Erdtree's Favor). I equipped the little bit of armor that had the most physical damage negation, used my +2 Uchigatana and Medium Shield with 100 physical damage negation, and had no buffs (although honestly only because I had none to use after my previous attempts). The key is realizing 1.) The fight will be a long one, and 2.) Every recovery the boss does should be repaidwith a jumping attack to its head, preferably slash, because of the lack of defense + chance to Stance Break. Keep a medium distance to the beast so that the camera doesn't work against you but so that you can also run to do the jumping attack whenever possible. Lastly, any projectile attacks that the beast does CAN be dodged, but its so much more convenient and less risky to just roll through them.

Horrible, Annoying, Unfair, BS, Stupid, an absolute capstone to making the crystal tunnel the worst place i have experienced in many many games played over 25 years.
stick close and to its side, and you can melee it while it will actually push you out of the way of some of its attacks, block with a shield if you have one good enough, it will floor you but you will survive it with the chance to get a hit in. tankiest summon, and the rapier i got from killing that one invader at the round table...
i will never willing do that fight fairly again.

I think looking at these boss fights as an endurance test as recommended in their combat information makes it more difficult than it already is.
For Sellia crystal tunnel and full grown beast at Mt. Gelmir I summon the five mausoleum soldiers then try to take advantage of the distraction they provide before it kills me and it has worked well for me. I don't think chipping away at their HP bar is the best strategy for these bosses.
- Anonymous
I didn't find this or the full grown falling star beast at the top of Mt Gelmir to be as hard as some of the comments. The one in Gael tunnel is zero for two but the full grown beat me on the first attempt and I killed it on the second and just gone exactly the same for me on NG+ I find the one in capital outskirts to be the most difficult of the three. It has more room there to do all sorts of wacky stuff.
- Anonymous
Everything this guy does seems undodgeable save a few. I’m not gonna sit here holding block and summoning ashes like a turd…

Am I missing a grace or something? The run to the fight in the crystal tunnel is harder than the fight itself.

like most of the bosses its strenght lies in the huge speed advance he has over the player.

Yup, this is the one. I found it. This is the most bullshit boss.
As a monster hunter fan, this fight truly follows monster hunter tradition. Fight is incredibly fun the first time around. The second time you get ****ing oneshot by its ****ing body rubbing up to you, which for some reason does damage half the time and just pushes you around the other half of the time. Truly the best and worst.

I think sleep may work, I used the Sword of St. Trina L2 and it seemed to stun him for a bit. Not long, but enough to get an attack in.

Rock Sling can stagger this boss, if you can get a few repeated hits in.

I usually feel bad for cheesing with scarlet rot and poison, but today this mother****er deserved it

This boss is just absolute bullshit. His tail whip covers half the arena, his charge last so long he can run around the arena 3 times, and he can do a sharp 180 degree turn while charging.
I swear, I'd have more fun fighting the bed of chaos checkpointless than this crap in the crystal mines

Elden ring is massive compared to bloodborne, that's a given, but it does prove the old adage of quality being better than quantity. So far its been one s***ty boss fight after another. The only boss I've seen up to now that comes even close to any of the bosses in bloodborne was the golden shade, and that was over disappointingly quickly once I had a feel for the timing of its attacks. Every other boss has had the artificial difficulty of a massive health pool, high damage resistance and hit hard, rather than clever and good design like most of the bosses in bloodborne had.

big boss check, tiny arena check, chargy attacks that make the boss look like an idiot check. abilities that dont fit the arena check. annoying boss check. waste of time check. thumbs UP

So that's where those five Smithing Stone [7]'s that were rotting in my inventory came from.

Would be an intimidating boss if it werent for that goofy ahh eyeball in its head. Looks so silly!

Really wish we got the gravity sorceries it uses as sorceries for ourselves - hell, they're kinda coded into the game already as consumables!

RL 30, used only knot tears and heirloom talismans, and the blasphemous blade. doesn't destroy him outright, but gives you a huge chance, beat him right under the 3 minute mark

A pretty cool fight and very defiant too. It's kinda disappointing that they don't drop any cool gravity weapon or sorcery tho

Not sure if a bug or the version in Sellia just has that small amount of HP, but I used Rotten Breath while it was getting up and it got one-shotted. 350 Max HP?

If it weren’t for all the good smithing stones these guys drop on top of the Beast Jaw and bell bearing I wouldn’t even bother. How does a boss that tanky, fast, aggressive with amazing heal punishes, immense poise and immunity to bleed and frostbite drop the same amount of runes as a Tibia Mariner
Had no luck killing the mountain one in meele until I changed the ash of war on my morningstar to Thunderbolt - safe range, nice damage, gg no re
