The nerf was completely understandable, but if they're gonna do that, they should get rid of the completely pointless 20 int stat dump in the requirements. Only reason I haven't bothered with this thing, because visually, I love it.
- Anonymous
Why, just why, is this a quality weapon? I think the scaling should be B strength D dexterity and C intelligence at +10 ( maybe even B intelligence because there are so little somber strength/intelligence weapons.
- Anonymous
I was thinking of Jaw build run, but this nerf... i guess Fromsoft thinks Blasphemous is enough for casual players.
Anyways it is time to move on to next game.
- Anonymous
I ducking love this oversized tooth, greatest addition to the game
- Anonymous
I don’t mind the stance damage decrease too much since it is still an amazing weapon. It is the longest colossal weapon and does pierce damage so you can get some pretty meaty damage either those counter hits. Also the ash of war is a spamable ranged attack on a slow weapon so it provides good utility in that aspect. The thing that hurts this weapon the most for me though and why it is not on most of my strength builds is that 20 int requirement which you get very little out of scaling wise.
- Anonymous
I dont really think the weapon art nerf matters that much. If you're using the weapon as a weapon instead of a big glintstone staff, then you are still gonna be able to stagger the enemy.
- Anonymous
FromSoftware when they realize they accidentaly left a single colossal weapon in the game that is viable in PvP: "Nerf it guys, nerf it! Even though there are about 20 weapons with more spammable attacks, nerf this! Big bonk sticks aren't allowed to be good!"
- Anonymous
"With its sharp point, this colossal weapon can skewer foes" no thrusting attacks. ahh, elden ring, oh elden ring
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The ash of war is still very good. for a slow colossal weapon having a decently quick range option is quite useful. The stance damage might be low now but its still good for keeping up stance damage along with the regular attacks.
Also a spammable fast range attack is never going to be a bad thing
- Anonymous
On one hand, yes, it absolutely needed to be nerfed. 33 poise damage per attack that can be fired rapidly is broken. But they just went completely overboard with it, like they seem to love to do. 7 stance damage is so pathetic, I’d honestly feel less insulted if it didn’t do any at all. You’re going to kill whatever boss you’re fighting before you stagger them. Does it not make sense that a massive bolt of gravitational energy from a giant void beast’s jaw would do a lot of stagger damage? It should do at least 15 per strike. That would mean you’d only get about 1 stagger per FP/Stamina bar, which seems pretty fair. But 7 stance damage is just pitiful.
- Anonymous
33 to 7 (close to 80% cut) seems a bit excessive on paper? Was it really that much of a problem dueling against other meta builds, skill levels being equal? Not really interested in its performance in gank scenarios; the power of Jolly Cooperation throws off everything.
- Anonymous
Finally, there is actually an incentive to use the normal attacks, making use of it's reach and pierce damage. The L2 spammers can go back to using Blasphemous Blade
- Anonymous
Good supplemental weapon for quality builds. The int investment is eh, but you open up things like Ruins Greatsword and Deaths Poker.
AoW is now just a physical version of Thunderbolt. Decent but not bonkers like it used to be.
- Anonymous
I'm going to make a meme build around this weapon in honor of giant dad. I'll probably post it on reddit or YouTube.
- Anonymous
Kinda sucks that you need 20 INT for a weapon that barely scales with INT. Feels like I'm wasting a bunch of points just to use a mostly Quality weapon.
- Anonymous
Honestly even after the nerf this weapon is still great it just isn’t super busted in pve now. The WA may no longer stagger like crazy but it does decent damage at quite a long range. Also this weapon is deceptively long so that helps it greatly in PvP and doing pierce damage is great. And also the weapon itself does enough poise damage that even with the nerf you can still get plenty of poise breaks. This weapon is also just super cool since you’re wielding the jaw of an alien.
- Anonymous
I’ve always loved the idea of defeating a mighty beast and claiming a limb as its weapon. Just badass. Part of what made Amygdalan Arm my fav weapon in BB and same reason here. It’s a damn space beast that shoots gravity beams and I’m swinging its jaw around!! YEAAHHHH
- Anonymous
Y'all need to calm down about the nerf, yeah the thing doesn't stagger everything but it's still good. It's a Collosal Weapon that does Pierce damage, that alone is insanely good. Then it has the ability to have a ranged attack built into it. I play PvE only, and even I thought this thing was a bit imbalanced. It is still a great weapon, even if you can't stagger everything from a distance.
- Anonymous
This thing still staggers most enemies and bosses with two charged R2s easily, and doing pierce damage alongside its hyper armor charge attacks works very nicely even if it's not 100% physical damage. Yea sure the weapon art doesn't stagger enemies in a few bursts 10 years away but it makes up a ton for the weapon being slow to swing and it's still a great tool for picking off enemies in crowds or doing some ranged damage on a boss playing it safe. Very fun colossal post-nerf still recommend 10/10
- Anonymous
20 investment in INT hurts considering how little it ends up scaling with it, but the bling of this weapon is too attractive. I mean it's glossy obsidian imbued with purple nuances of gravity and made from the jaw of one of the coolest looking bosses out there...
- Anonymous
while i agree that the weapon art needed a nerf, i wish they had taken some out of damage rather than entirely out of poise damage. it's a colossal gravity weapon ffs, poise damage is the one thing it should be doing better than most. granted, the sheer spammability of the weapon art would mean that it would still have to be weaker than it was and weaker per-hit than some/most of the slower colossal weapons' weapon arts.

Was this wrapping ever really annoying in pvp? I don't really remember it showing up that often. Usually I just see bleed **** like rob and that naginata thing
- Anonymous
Can be used on a lvl 1 wretch with the following items
Radagons soreseal
Marikas soreseal
Stargazer heirloom
Starscourge heirloom
Strength knot cracked tear
And 2 handed
(Fallingstar beast can be beaten at lvl 1 with tanky summon, rotten breath and black knife weapon art)

Ah, finally I can use this without trivializing the entire game for myself. Nerf was 100% deserved
- Anonymous
To the comment on the 18th theres still plenty of stupidly broken weapons in this game, i think you'll live.
- Anonymous
ER players when they dont have a way to trivialize every encounter in the game (game is bad). but for real, im honestly surprised this didn't get nerfed sooner with how absolutely ridiculous the weapon skill was.
- Anonymous
I tried to use this weapon because I know it has great poise damage, and now it has been nerfed. I don't know if this was inevitable to happen, but it really sucks how you can get used to how a weapon works, only for the rug to be pulled from under you. I don't do PVP, and I feel like this was nerfed because of that. If it were an immediate balance problem, they would have changed this weapon from the start. I loved Elden Ring, but this past update has ruined my PvE experience. I'm done playing.
- Anonymous
These nerfs need to f**king stop, at least they do for PVE. This nerf just like every other one is about little bit*ches crying OP, OP every time they run into a player with more skill and the way they protect their fragile egos is the go-to excuse of the weapon being "broken" and how they wouldn't have lost the duel if giant-crusher had the same poise damage as a shortsword FFS.
From Software doesn't give the least amount of f**ks if the FSBJ staggers Omen or banished knights to the point they can't trade or retaliate. This is about little bit*ches feeling entitled to beat players that are more skilled than they are.
Some of the talismans have a different tier of strength for PVP and PVE they need to do the same with the weapons in order for players who don't do multiplayer not to get penalised because of a vocal minority.
- Anonymous
Did they nerf this? The WA no longer seems to cause any stagger
- Anonymous
With the new nerf the Gravity Bolt skill failed to even stagger a player as they were mid-air for a jump attack. Not much of a "Gravity" bolt anymore - nerf may have been necessary but this was too harsh.
i hate playing against ****ing losers who just run away like a ***** and spam the weapon art because that’s the only way they can kill someone in pvp

Does pierce damage, is the longest of its class, and has a strong spammy WA
- Anonymous
The AR for this weapon seems low considering the stat investment, but it is a colossal weapon that only does pierce damage. The damage on counter hits plus spear talisman makes it perfect for trading hits with.

keep one of these in my back pocket just to give gankers a taste of their own medicine

Can easily stunlock bosses to death. Mix your flask with the tears for increased posture damage and infinite FP. Spam Gravity. Face roll every boss.

weapon skill is hella cheap for how op it is, could probably be a bit more expensive
- Anonymous
Ruins greatsword is better, faster, hits harder, more versatile, much better scaling
- Anonymous
Being summoned in academy gate, host straightly spamming triple ring of light, i did damage he's healing 5 times, just pull this weapon and spamming l2, wins point down.
- Anonymous
The requirements are pretty high for new tarnished in ng run! But once you reach the requirements and get this big insect tooth upgraded, its performance worth all the investment...
Spam weapon skill and see those badass big enemies with a ton of poise stagger...

Such a waste of stat investment only 979 ar?? I'm in the 600s without buffs and my highest investment rn is like 35 faith. Dont level up so High stat spreads suck after soft caps dude
- Anonymous
So i wanna use it.
I used the Greatsword and the Golems Halberd (both +25 and with cold infusion). I‘m running an 99 Str/Dex/Int build and both of my weapons have an AR of 979 (one handed, because i dualwield it).
Can someone tell me how high the AR on the Jaw is, with +10 and the same stats like me?

As of patch 1.06, the damage type has been fixed. All attacks now correctly deal pierce damage and benefit from the spear talisman.

People that don’t like it in pvp are bad at at dodging and are the same people that get wrecked by mage builds. This weapon can be easily dodge rolled by rolling as soon as you see it thrust ..

Does it really have better damage on skill with str than int? I'm 25str 60 int and this thing hits people for 500 dmg at +9. Damn this thing must be insane at proper build
- Anonymous
Am I misremembering or was FSBJ previously strike damage? Did it change?
- Anonymous
The weapon art is too strong for PVP IMHO. It’s not so much that there’s little warning that it’s about to happen other than carefully watching the user hold up the staff, it’s that you can rapid fire it and it hits so fast that it’s difficult to dodge other than memorizing the timing by heart. They need to get rid of the “rapid fire” part, or at least give more visual cues you’re about to get hit, otherwise we’ll just see its weapon art getting spammed repeatedly from a safe and considerably long distance while it also tracks your movements and forcing you to either dodge or get hit by an aoe blast.

Dear God, and people think ROB is the most overpowered PvE weapon
- Anonymous
This thing is a hassle to fight in pvp, Hosts can use this too inch away and let his phantoms do the work while endlessly spam when you're near their proximity, i dunno any counters tbh.
- Anonymous
This is a true quality weapon, which is a bit unfortunate as I feel it should be primarily a str/int weapon. The scaling for strength and dex is exactly the same across all upgrade levels, capping out at 72 scaling for each stat, and 36 scaling for intelligence. It does still function well on a strength focused build, but other colossal's will outdamage this thing. The ruins greatsword also does a fair bit more of total damage, but has less range.
I wish they would alter the scaling of this to be more strength focused, since its int requirement isn't super low, quite a few points have to be invested just to wield it. Fantastic weapon either way and still packs a punch on a 55/20/20 str/dex/int build.
- Anonymous
Why use a finely crafted sword passed down through generations of warriors when you can just rip the mandible off a giant space monster and smack things to death with it? Nah seriously this thing is awesome, and I'm not normally a fan of colossal weapons
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
After around 300 hours of play time and trying many different types of builds, I feel pretty comfortable saying that this is my favorite weapon in the game, and arguably the best weapon in the game.
- Anonymous
The weapon art got me out of many troublesome boss fights. Does a faith build have a weapon alternative to this beast jaw?
- Anonymous
This weapon has the longest hitbox out of all colossal weapons in the game, besting the second longest golem's halberd by a fair bit.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Since this is a "gravity weapon", I was considering it for my str/int build. Actually though its damage scales very very poorly with int (not unlike the ruins greatsword), and after you get to 54 str you get way more AR by dumping of the other points into dex. It's basically a quality weapon with an int requirement.
This weapon allows the Tarnished to turn on "Story Mode" for almost every boss fight: (1) before initial cutscene, flask up with Opaline Bubbletear and Stonebarb Cracked Tear; (2) watch cutscene; (3) summon mimic tear; (4) spam L2; and (5) watch cutscene.
- Anonymous
Despite the damage type and description stating it does pierce damage, game data shows it has no attacks which produce pierce damage.

i know blasphemous blade takes the spotlight but this weapon hits differently. stunlocking everything while blasting them with the ash of war is nutty
- Anonymous
One of FromSoft's famous "clearly a great pick but how the hell do I build for it" kind of weapons. Its weapon skill scales off Int, but barely, and the weapon's actual damage is almost entirely strength and dex dependent. The ideal build for this is a high-strength (~54), low int (~20) setup, which will also let you use the Ruins Greatsword and Radahn's Starscourges. If you need something faster, this same build will also run Cold-infused strength weapons such as the Beastman's Curved Swords, and has no trouble with spears like the Clayman's Harpoon(s), so you're not stuck with just Colossals if you go this build.

how much the R2 damage difference between pure STR build and Quality build?

This weapon is very very good. The poise damage is absolutely insane. Proudly first tried Malenia with it

Does anyone know if the Meteorite Staff’s Gravity bonus applies to this weapon’s Ash if in the off hand? I’ve heard that the bonus can affect some of Ashes of War and I wasn’t sure if it worked on this one.

spellblade set buffs weapon art damage but very all set made 937 dmg to 950
- Anonymous
The damage of the AoW is small but it breaks stance quite easily. A shame it doesn't have more critical damage to complement this.
- Anonymous
This giant jaw's AoW breaks the game. Will stance break anything for a critical hit, amazing range, does physical damage, cheap to cast, can be spammed easily and quickly, and deals solid damage. Can easily cheese hard bosses like Malenia, Radagon, Elden Beast, etc
If you invade and one of the gankers has this, you're in big trouble if they're even remotely competent.
- Anonymous
Amazing PVE weapon, especially for bosses
It's always my fallback weapon and I have used it to take down Draconic Tree Sentinels, Death Rite Birds, Malenia, Placidusax, Radagon, and the Elden Beast when my other strategies fail.
The ash of war staggers everything with 2-3 hits and you can spam it to continuously stagger enemies.
Summon your Mimic Tear and watch both of you evaporate bosses.
This thing's weapon art stance breaks both versions of loretta in 3 shots with infinite range pretty much. It works on every boss but I just wanted to mention the one I remember most. Probably the safest and most powerful stance breaking weapon in the game. Beware though, if you are cooping you will need more hits to stance break. 2 player was 4 on loretta 3 player may be 5 hits. If all 3 players have this weapon you can probably just L2 spam anything to death as long as you got a lot of FP.
- Anonymous
One little note, the weapon art itself is considered mostly physical. If Gravity Bolt is 901 damage normally, putting on the Magic Scorpion which is supposed to increase it by 12% brings it to 931. Using Terra Magica instead of Scorpion, a 35% increase instead of 12%, brings it to 990. So unlike Darkmoon which benefits from higher int passed through a bunch of multipliers, Beast Jaw favors high Mind so it can be spammed ceaselessly.
- Anonymous
If you're here because, like me, you thought the description makes it sound like this weapon has a thrusting r2, maybe even a unique one: it doesn't. It has generic colossal weapon r2s.
- Anonymous
Wow another gravity spell tied to an eyesore weapon and inaccessible to int build gravity mages. Thanks From.

The notes below don't lie. This thing's WA single-handedly makes a mockery of Malenia, Radagon and Elden Beast. As well as every other enemy that comes before them. Definitely easy mode.

- Anonymous
Despite how absolutely beautiful the weapon and AoW is its really more of a PVE weapon rather than pvp. The AoW, while powerful in the right build, is quite slow for pvp and very easily punished by good players. There's also some kind of problem with the hitbox when doing a jumping R1 and idk if that was intentional but if it was that's ridiculous. Great fun for PVE though.

Honed bolt on steroids, good lord. The amount of pressure you can exert with this while doing next to nothing is absurd.
- Anonymous
Best weapon to use against final two bosses. Spamming Gravity bolt did the trick. Feels overpowered but whatever works in this game.
- Anonymous
actually balanced in my opinion. Its raw power is lower than other colossal weapons since its weapon art is quite good. Its really more on stagger power and accuracy. Boss auto dodging doesnt work at all for the weapon art. ( compare it to a strong build that uses lions claw or bleed, its not as powerful in terms of numbers)Quite good in pvp for creating staggers despite the boss being mobile.
the weapon art scales with both int, str and dex, same as the weapons normal strikes. Physical attack buffs like exalted flesh and so on will also boost the weapon arts dmg. It is better to go for a quality build with big str and dex over int since the weapon scales with those more.
- Anonymous
Why is the weapon art's FP cost 13 (- 13) instead of 13 (- -)? Is there an alternative version of the weapon art by pressing strong attack button?
- Anonymous
kinda funny how the best colossal weapon in the game is the one you don't use as a colossal weapon lol
- Anonymous
I feel really stupid because I just spent literally days trying to take down Malenia and I finally decided to just try this thing since I used the weapon art to shred Godskin Duo.
I thought it would be too slow, but I didn't have anything to lose. Just summoned the mimic to tank for me and spammed the weapon art on her. Had to drink one cerulean flask, then just used the Cerulean Hidden Tear in my physic with Crimson Bubbletear for insurance in phase 2.
She was dead in thirty seconds. I felt so goddamn stupid for not trying this before. Utterly trivialized it. I don't even feel bad because I ****ing hated her, but this weapon is as powerful as it is stupid looking. Definitely going to be my go-to when I can't win a fight the fair way now.
- Anonymous
The real question is: Which weapon do you use to defeat meteor beast in NG, to then be able to use this beauty lol
as this is the only colossal weapon to do pierce damage, I wonder how effective it is at getting thrust-counter damage
