Festering Bloody Finger is a Multiplayer Item and Consumable in Elden Ring. Multiplayer Items allow players to interact with each other in various ways, including leaving messages for other players to read, co-operative gameplay and competitive gameplay like PVP.
Item for online play.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)
Consumed upon use.
Attempts an invasion of another player's world.
If successful, you will arrive as an invader (Bloody Finger) with the objective of defeating the Host of Fingers of that world.
This furled finger is blackened with blood congestion. It seems to have been chopped off rather unceremoniously.

I'm gonna do a challenge run here shortly where I can only level up after killing a host. What's the best and quickest way to get these without player trade?

Gotta love Anti-Ganking Justice Invaders that pop up near or just before the boss door and then likely whine about getting ganked.
The Host and Furled Fingers are anxious to get into a fight: of course they'll try to obliterate you if you stand in their way. Granted, some pin-headed Hosts see red and turn away from the yellow fog to make a beeline for the invader. I can't say I have much sympathy for such Hosts. Personally, I never liked being part of a Gank squad, but if that's what you're after, try ruining their day in Limgrave or wherever else they fester.
And if 3 or 2 V 1 bothers you, just go for duels.

I make it a mission to pick these up on any build I'm doing multiplayer, and use them after clearing an area. It's not the brightest idea, as I generally get trounced while playing honest, but I like making a character and learning what to keep/discard for my build with first-hand experience. Definitely makes PVP more fun when you grow naturally alongside other players, while getting used to the weapons/spells you're using.
Too often before, I've dived into PVP headfirst at levels 100+ and gotten myself destroyed because I didn't KNOW my build, and just slapped stuff together without knowing WHY it works. Being able to practice that early on with trial invasion items is a huge boon in that regard.

Is there a reason my festering fingers work, but not my reusable bloody finger?

I get that From Software wants to force people to play their PVP mode, for whatever reason, but if they're going to force you to do it couldn't they improve the connections, like just a little bit? Every invader I've gotten invaded by was rubberbanding like crazy. How are you supposed to hit someone with ping that high?? They seriously didn't improve anything from the already terrible PVP in Dark Souls 1-3. I don't even bother trying to fight, it's such a boring waste of time. It's faster just to let the invader kill you or just jump off the nearest cliff. That's all invaders want anyway, for you to die, so why not just give them what they want? Better than the alternative, having a fight that drags on and on for several minutes, wasting both the host and invaders' time. Hopefully the next game they make forgoes mandatory PVP all together but probably not since they want to appeal to the hardcore fighting game crowd for some reason...

One question, is it possible to farm the bloody fingers(I killed varre)

are these tradeable? could i be dropped max amount of them on a low level character?

The rewards are really bad for pvp, like totally not worth the effort, I'd rather help someone out and get more stuff out of it.

Lame that you have to beat Godrick or walk alll the way to Volcano Manor just to get an unlimited finger item. They should at least let you buy infinite of these from Patches.

The hermit merchant in the Hermit merchant Shack in the capital outskirts sells and infinite amount of festering bloddy fingers for 3000 runes each, idk if the cause of it is that a hot fix made this change or if killing the bell bearing hunter at this location changes anything

Anyone invade a “threadhewn fool” NPC that was super tough using a flail and greatshield, sometimes a bow and great epe? Leaves a rainbow stone on your corpse when you die.

Anyone else get thrown into the world of a “threadworn fool” in Liurnia using a bow, flail, and great epe? Thought it was a player, but it’s a super tough NPC that drops a rainbow stone on your corpse when he wrecks you. I invaded him a couple times before I got players instead.

Fromsoftware clearly does not want players invading anymore.
I've been playing since Dark Souls 1 so trust me when I say the Reds have never been at this much of a disadvantage. The Host has infinite summons plus blue phantoms on standby, you can get hit by mobs sometimes during their attacks, not to mention good squads can just whittle down your stamina with magic (which everyone seems to be using for some reason) and constant pressure until you're a sitting duck. Pair that with constant disconnect issues and it really seems like there's no point to invading other than trolling.
You aren't even rewarded with much if you kill the host. Just a Rune Arc and a pitiful number of Echos. You get more out of helping people kill bosses. Invasions are dead.

Can get 5 for free after killing the witch and going to an NPC at Rose Church.
I used one, killed a coop and the host, and didn't get anything besides runes. Is this a bug or do you really not get anything?
- Anonymous
Can also obtain from attacking NPC at The First Step grace site. Defeat him, and he will drop 6.

You can only get so many of these. Where is the infinite use one? The regular bloody finger is nowhere to be found. I want to invade, not duel. The red effigy is only for dueling. Surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet. All online articles seem to be using outdated info or they just don't understand that getting summoned through the red effigy =/= invading.

Please please PLEASE someone, anyone, if you find a new source of these, please post it! I'm trying to find them in the early game because I love low level invasions but so far the entire internet doesn't know where to find them... I really hope they're not gated behind too much crazy high level content.... oh gosh.. i really hope.. i can invade.. well, thanks for reading, and thanks for helping, potentially! if you do know the answer, and you post the answer, and help! it would be so appreciated! I love you!!! yeah!!!!
This page says you can not store Festering Bloody Fingers, but I have 21 in my chest. Does anyone know how many I can store?
