Bosses in Elden Ring are powerful enemies that add challenging experiences to the game. Bosses are encountered throughout the game in both the overworld and inside traditional dungeon-style levels. While some must be fought to progress through the story, most are optional. Each boss features a unique set of moves, gear, and various weaknesses and resistances to different damage types and styles of play. Successfully defeating a boss grants the player larger amounts of Runes than traditional enemies in their respective areas, and many offer rare and/or unique armaments, armor, magic, and other items. This page contains a list of all the bosses encountered in the game.

Elden Ring Main Bosses Lore

The Lands Between is the world of Elden Ring, inhabited by Gods, monsters, mortals, and everything in between. The Elden Ring, a physical manifestation of the fundamental laws of the world, was broken and its major pieces are now held by powerful Demigods - also referred to as Shardbearers - offspring of Gods and Mortals. Each of these mighty creatures is constantly vying to collect all the shards in an effort to gain control of the full Elden Ring. These beings and their servants compose most of the main story Bosses of the game.

The Demigods inherited different powers from their pieces of the Elden Ring, changing and twisting their bodies and minds as they fell into the disorder and chaos of the Ring's corrupting presence. Those blessed by the Elden Ring are often characterized with a golden aura, giving their eyes a golden glow. According to Hidetaka Miyazaki, the design philosophy of these powerful opponents was "...to depict these beings as not just creatures and horrible monsters, but have an element of heroism and an element of mythology to them."

Elden Ring Achievement Bosses

Certain bosses in Elden Ring are not Demigods, but the game will give you an achievement for besting them.  Killing all of the achievement bosses is required for the Elden Ring achievement. The following are achievement bosses. There are currently 30 achievement bosses.

NOTE: Some bosses are needed to beat the game but don't give an achievement (like Draconic Tree Sentinel, Sir Gideon Ofnir, Elden Beast) so they will not be listed in the list

All Elden Ring Bosses

Unlike common enemies, Bosses do not respawn once defeated and can be distinguished by their health bar and name appearing at the bottom of the screen when fought against.

Types of Bosses

There are three types of Bosses:

  • Field Bosses are those found while exploring The Lands Between and are optional. These are in the lower tier of the Bosses hierarchy and usually generate an [Enemy Felled] screen when slain.
  • Greater Enemies Bosses are found blocking progress or guarding important, powerful items and areas. They are a step higher than Field Bosses and distinguished by the message [Great Enemy Felled] when slain.
  • Demigods and Legends are the main Bosses of Elden Ring. Slaying one of these mighty foes will reward the player with a Remembrance and possibly one of the seven Great Runes, which are shards of the Elden Ring. This is why they their possessors are titled, "Shardbearers".

Mandatory Bosses

The only thing preventing a player from simply ignoring every Shardbearer and walking straight into Leyndell (after defeating the Draconic Tree Sentinel boss) is a barrier that can only be removed by possessing two or more Great Runes. Therefore, while Godrick the GraftedRennala, Queen of the Full MoonStarscourge RadahnMohg, Lord of Blood; and Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy are all individually optional, two of them must be defeated to enter Leyndell.

The minimum number of Bosses required to reach Leyndell is three (Starscourge RadahnMohg, Lord of Blood; and the Draconic Tree Sentinel) because all the other Shardbearers have preceding Bosses that must be defeated first. The Draconic Tree Sentinel is technically an optional boss since it is possible to reach Leyndell with the waygate in Prince of Death's Throne in Deeproot Depths after defeating Fia's Champions; however, this waygate is inaccessible and displays the message, "You cannot use this without more Great Runes", unless a minimum of two Shardbearers have been defeated.

"Elden Ring players have initiated 5.9 billion boss battles in the first year since launch" - Elden Ring Stats Reveal How Many Times Players Attempted Malenia

Once the player reaches Leyndell, they have far fewer options for skipping bosses, as the remaining areas cannot be accessed without defeating the relevant Bosses:

Really hope they read and took to heart the criticism if a lot of the end game bosses and dont make the same mistakes in the DLC. Radagon/Elden Beast was not fun to fight but just tedious same with others like Fire Giant and Malekith. I guess its just opinion, but ive been a long time souls fan and these were some of the worse bosses next to DS2. I did like Mohg, Malenia, and Hourah Loux, hoping DLC bosses are more like them. Elden Ring endgame had the problem of just having bosses with endless attacks and almost no openings, hard to read start up animations that all look way too similar leading to just tedium rather than a difficult challenge that is enjoyable to overcome.

What your favorite Demi-god says about YOU(I’m including Godrick)

Godrick: you in joy the simpler things in life, no mechanics, no gimmicks, just straight forward and fun.
Radahn: you like to feel like a bada$$. You mostly praise radahn and call him a Chad.
Rykard: your a meme lord. Or you like Snakes.
Ranni: your a simp, don’t lie, your not fooling anyone. You wonder what ranni could do with her four hands
Morgott: your a sucker for sad backstories, you probably pity morgott. Either that or you’re a simp.
Godwyn: You probably feel bad for what happened too him and hate ranni for it. You love dragons and the golden order.
Mohg: you probably like him purely for his fight. Will 100% take Latin classes. Probably believes the theory that miquella made Mohg fall in love with him.
Malenia: your a masochist. Probably does a malenia cosplay.
Miquella: you think miquella is the purest character in the series and will deny it if he turns out to be a villain. Either that or your Mohg.

Odd fact: bewitching branches don’t affect haligtree knights of miquella. Guess Miquella got them first

Mohg: I took Latin classes while in the sewers.

I really hope fromsoft adds a mechanic where you can Re-fight bosses, it could be like a "memory of the fight" kinda thing.
I do a lot of co-op because the interactions are fun, but it'd be amazing if we could fight them one-on-one again without having to go to NG+ and also to re-challenge the bosses to fully learn their movesets and find interesting ways to dodge their attacks without being a burden to someone else because you are trying goofy stuff.
also sometimes the bosses do some really, really jank stuff because of the netcode during multiplayer.

So either the lion dancer from Shadow of the Erdtree is a draconian or related to the wraith callers, at least judging from his skin color in the game.

I can tell some evidence about the first one is that the dancer wields lightning in the trailer and, well, that’s a dragon thing.

But the second I can justify by the fact that the dancer has multiple limbs intertwined inside the lion, something we’ve seen in wraith callers too. But that’s still anybody’s guess

Duelists, omens, omenkillers, envoy longhorn, alabaster and onyx lords, miners, leonine misbegotten, battle mages, bloodhound knights and certain ancestral followers can be stunned if blocking with antskull gs. Odd but I tested it

Whether a mistake or not, the fact that miranda blighted blooms bleed and can be put to sleep is very uncanny

Paints quite the picture of these things in a subtle way

So far the trailer for the DLC hasnt show any unique ideas to boss design approach. I get it you love Mesmer already etc, but we have another couple of oversized bosses spamming AoE coming up. Mesmer himself obviously has oversized weapon and unnaturally long arms to fool people when judging his range. The lion people look another thing that's going to hang up in the air for way too long and we already seen like 3 different AoE attacks from it.

I just want a single boss that has mele range similiar to ours, without constant AoE and stomp spam, ranged spam and jumping 30 meters away.

This section was mislabeled comments all I see are complaints nobody is making you play just take a minute and a couple of deep breaths before you decide what to say because there not going to change the gameplay now. Lets try and make the comments section useful with the bits of lore tips on how to defeat and helpful info not just pages of complaints to scroll though. Sure go a head and make fun of this optimistic concept but I stand by it. Besides its elden ring we would all be disappointed if it was easy.

Something interesting that may apply to all bosses in the game, is that they wont ever go to phase 2 if you dont attack them directly after their hp goes around 50% (just tried it by using rot dog + poison mist with godrick, stopped attacking after nearly 50% with rot dog dead, stayed in first phase until he died of the rot + poison)

Question. Why do people like radahn so much? I get that his lore is cool but i think the fight itself is pretty uninteresting moveset wise.

                                          >NOTE: Some bosses are needed to beat the game but don't give an achievement (like Draconic Tree Sentinel, Sir Gideon Ofnir, Elden Beast) so they will not be listed in the list

Draconic Tree Sentinel is not a required boss.

There’s a total of 7 mausoleums, and I always wondered what killed those demigods. And then I read the godskin noble robe description. Their seven face apron might mean something

Elden Ring is like Diablo 4, it has thousands of generic dungeons with the same animals, we have thousands of caves and generic cemeteries with repeated bosses. Good thing we don't live in an 8-bit world, so the software front can change the color of each enemy and boss to look different lol

Love Elden Ring's fights and areas, hate their bosses minus a lot of unique ones like Radahn. Not even in a "too hard" or "just bad" way. I just hate pack filler being from what feels like 90% of the game when what made other Fromsoft games noteworthy was the bosses, bad or otherwise, were memorable. Some polished, some pure nightmare and some straight from a lunatic asylum but most if not all were memorable. Can you remember most of the fights in Elden Ring's bosses feeling distinct? I honestly can't when a lot bleed into each other being reused or feeling similar in design of Giant Monster Camera Struggle, Large Reflex Test with very deliberate button tracking or Gank Spank Mob Monsters you saw in a dungeon maybe 10 hours ago. Sad when most of the main bosses (and some optional) showed very unique ideas with a good twist in their fight design.

You say not to count all these garbage dungeon bosses as bosses, but FromSoftware B Team decided to give them a boss health bar and mash them together in gank fights so I will. 90% of this game dungeon bosses are just a bullshhhttt that you beat by outrading him when you're high enough lvl. Nobody goes about in depth fight analysis of erdtree burial watchdogs. Hell no. You just go there overleveled, kill them in 5 hits, 20 seconds and still get annoyed by the stunlock from their jump aoes blending together.

                                                      • What is your favorite boss in each souls borne game from DeS-ER. Mine is
DeS: old king allant, this is the only boss that actually possesses a challenge, and it’s a fun move set( though that grab is just cruel)
DS1: Manus, the only problem with this fight is that manus blends in with the back ground, but I love how the magic and physical attacks combined and it’s a genuinely a good boss
DS2: darklurker, one of the few good Ds2 bosses, darklurker has a basic enough move set that even when double it still is manageable, it’s one of the best duo fights in the game
DS3: twin princes, because I am the best boss the the series
BB: Ludwig, duh, like we all known why Ludwig is a great fight
ER: morgott, i utterly love this fight, the move set is clean, and arena is good only flaw is that he is a bit squishy.

I think this game's bosses are the result of fromsoft-pushing the limit of their dodge and hit combat in order to make the game challenging for players who have been doing that same style of combat for over a decade now. Honestly, if they make another game like this it should have a different combat system so everyone can start out bad and the bosses can be built around that (like what Serkiro did but depart even more from the core combat of the soul's games) instead of pushing "challening but fair" to its absolute limit

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

"Since all of the shardbearers (excluding Radahn and Mohg) have Bosses that need to be beaten to reach them, the minimum number of Bosses required to reach Leyndell is 3"

It's worth noting that this must be done in a very specific way if you want to only fight these 3. Radahn must die first, and in order to be able to do that, the Radahn festival must be active. The only way of activating it without needing to fight any extra bosses is to grab both halves of the Dectus medallion and use them to get to the Altus plateau via the lift (it is possible to get to the lift without fighting any bosses via the path that goes around Stormveil Castle). Once there, activate a grace site - any apart from those in Volcano Manor will do. This will trigger the Radahn festival and activate the sending gate at the Impassable Greatbridge.

When Radahn is dead, you can then use Varre's quest to get into Mohgwyn Palace to fight Mohg, and then go back to the Altus Plateau to finish your trip into Leyndell with the Draconic Tree Sentinel.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Great performance and lore, but that's it. I have more fun fighting ulcerated tree spirits than them, honestly. And if you wonder why I hate the deer: runs away twice as much as Elden Beast, stupid teleportation, hitboxes and regen. Regen is especially annoying on ng+7 since it's % based

                                                                      • Anonymous

The Madness page doesn't list which Bosses are weak/Immune to madness.

Dont get me wrong the main ones are amazing especially radahn and fortissax, but so many feel like filler. I dont feel anything fighting them and winning against them alot of the time, it just doesnt have the same hype to me as other souls games.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Honestly I don't mind the fact that most of the minibosses don't deserve their health bar. It serves as a motivation for new players if the get stuck on a main boss and then go fight minibosses to grow stronger, even though 10 night cavalries were probably overkill.

What I don't like however is that even large bosses are repeated. A second Astel and Mohg are non-sensical. 10 dragons are also rudundant especially if half of these are just the same moveset but with different elements and statuses. They should've just made the spells/weapons these repeated bosses drop hidden loot in the overworld.

                                                                            • Anonymous

Then Niall does it, then Malenia does it, then Mohg does it, then Maliketh does it, and it starts to feel kids trying to one-up each other on the playground. With the amount of late game bosses who do this exact thing I think it's a grace-given miracle that the Fire Giant doesn't have an extra phase where you break his second leg and he grows wings and starts zooming around the mountaintop like a stunt motorcycle.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Can you name any bosses who falls into this category besides Duelists and Watchdogs? And even so, they appear as mobs only in late game, and in very small quantitites. Sure, there are also some exceptions like Demi-Human Chiefs, Cemetery Shade (who occurs as an respawnable enemy only once), Miranda, Omenkiller, Crystalians but that's all iirc. You may also bring up Tree Spirits, but there is a difference between a common enemy and the mini boss. People's tendency for exaggerating things is ludicrous. As if everyone is pointing out that "this boss is not unique" only to bring some attention to their persona, honestly. I may sound like elden ring fanboy with this one, but that's just how things really are

We aren't talking about violins here, that word is so vague in the context of a video game that it basically means nothing by itself. Just a thought I had reading all the incredible opinion pieces below.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Battlemage Hugues and Cleanrot Knight duo shouldn't be listed as Dragonbarrow bosses. The part of Dragonbarrow where evergaol and the cave are located is separated from the rest of the region by blazing wall and scaled to Caelid's level.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

I don't really know if these bosses are unfair or not, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they're simply not fun.

                                                                                          • Elden ring overused of fogwall boss is a great flaw. They could just design the dungeon better with those boss by making them normal enemies and make the dungeon more challenge with more enemies variety and good placement without the need of a boss. The lever is already a good indicator that you finish the dungeons. But instead they made it always a mid enemies being boss, it not fun for over leveled player to went on those dungeons bc they know the boss is a push over, instead of setting expectation on the boss elden ring could just set it good more dungeons like trap fill with more enemies.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

The hitboxes on the bigger bosses are so small to the point that shorter weapons literally can't hit them, and their attack hitboxes linger for a solid 0.5 second afterwards, which doesn't sound too bad but in a fast paced game where one hit can send you back to a grace it is a very big issue

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

DS3 bosses just hit rest hit rest hit rest hit rest, but in elden ring they literally go hit hit hit hit fly away combo up down left right input read your heals and be a ****ing ******* for 4 hours straight.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

Misbegotten Warrior and Perfumer Tricia duo in the Unsightly Catacombs is probably the most cancerous and unfair gank fight in the game for me. Misbegotten is a distinctly aggressive opponent with wide range of attacks, while Tricia constantly spams spark and uplifting aromatics, and considering how small their boss room is you just don't have a chance to fight one of them separately without another striking you from the back. Moreover, you can't summon spirit ashes in this particular fight (unlike in any other catacombs and dungeons) and there is no stake of Marika before the fog wall, so you have to run through whole dungeon after losing to them every time. Godskin Duo fight is actually balanced compared to this one.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

DLC theory: The DLC will have Miquella as a major character, but probably not a boss. Miquella wanted to bring Godwyn's soul back through Castle Sol and The Eclipse. You know what enemies are related with Castle Sol though? Mausoleum Knights. And where are Mausoleum Knights often found? Protecting the Wandering Mausoleums, which house the bodies of soulless demigods. What if in the DLC Miquella manages to activate The Eclipse, and not only revives Godwyn but the other soulless demigods who will all be the bosses of the DLC.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

This is not true. To beat the game you can easily use Fia's transporter to get past him and all of Altus Plateau. In my current run through I don't have a single grace unlocked in Altus and I am just delaying starting a new game plus.

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Not because of any magic or broken weapons, but rather because only in Elden Ring can you send it with a lower body invul jump attack that leads to a crit, or easily force one with charged R2s. No special abilities needed, just understanding system mechanics and how stance-breaking works.

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                                                          • Anonymous

Like, it's okay if that's what you want to do, but they're clearly not. Otherwise they wouldn't have such intricate movesets. They're designed to be tackled in multiple ways, just like in the Souls games.

It's kind of annoying that people always have to defend the way they play as the "correct" one, but rather than "pure melee," now it's just the most casual one because lots of people are having a skill issue. Which is fine. Not everyone has to be a god gamer or anything like that. But at least be able to admit it, man.

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous
