Summons raging fireball that explodes and sets the area ablaze
![]() |
Flame of the Fell God is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Flame of the Fell God spell fires a ball of fire that explodes on contact leaving a patch of fire. Updated to Patch 1.07.
This legendary incantation is one of several that draws directly
from the power of the Fire Giants.
Releases a ball of raging fire said to be inhabited by a fell god. The
fireball floats toward enemies and explodes, setting the area
ablaze.
Arghanthy, the chief guardian of the Flame, had kept this incantation a well-kept secret until it was stolen by Adan. The fell god still lurks within the Fire Giants.

Elden Ring Flame of the Fell God Guide
- Fire Giant Incantation
- Stamina Cost: 42
- Deals fire damage
- Can knock back enemies upon exploding, useful against bosses like Malenia.
- High FP cost and only moderate damage make it not a spell to be thrown out casually. However, it can be a good setup tool when used skillfully
- Following the projectile while it tracks your target can make it difficult for other players to pressure you. If you're next to it when it begins to explode, this can give you time to cast another incantation, such as a heal or buff, while protected by the threat of the blast and lingering flames.
- This spell is extremely effective against Erdtree Avatars, they're weak to fire damage and have low mobility, often standing in the lingering flames for the whole duration.
- The very slow projectile speed can be a boon in certain cases as well, casting it when an enemy is unawares can allow you to cast another slow or a fully charged incantation, which will combo into the explosion of the flame.
- Note: Multiple buffs in Patch 1.07 - FP cost reduced from 42 to 34, stamina damage against guarding enemies is increased and the damage detection time of residual flames was shortened. (Patch Notes were corrected in Patch 1.07.1 as this spell could not be charged as it was stated in 1.07 official Patch Notes.)
Elden Ring Flame of the Fell God Notes and Tips
- Updated to patch 1.07. See Patch Notes for details.
- Was previously called Soul of Flame in version 1.00.

Should be able to be charged for longer duration + synergy with pogfrey icon

Some people lay praises to this incantation, meanwhile carian retaliation casualy eating the whole thing....... sure.....
- Anonymous
By itself it might be middle of the road for PvP, but it's not really desingned to be used solo. It is a great opener that when layered with other spells like Flame Fall Upon Them and Swarm of flies you create a bullet hell to illicit panic rolling until they either get clipped or waste their stamina whereafter you charge in to punish.
- Anonymous
Best used against enemies that don't move around too much such. It's a devastating opener for an erdtree avatar fight.
- Anonymous
A-tier if you understand how to layer spells. Allows you to buff/heal unpunished. There is a sweet spot opponents sit in where they can punish spell casting but won’t get hit by melee… this spell counters people hovering in that sweet spot. Then you can recast FGMS or BFP unpunished. If they roll towards you, it’s free catch flame, flame strike etc etc. This allows you to do damage while simultaneously buffing/healing. You are also partially masked by the orb: spam flame of the redmanes or charge up giantsflame while your opponent retreats. And so this spell is two slots, expensive and low damage considering how broken it could be in the right hands.

Very misunderstood spell with tons of utility. For example, can be cast around corners. Face player in direction you want it to initially travel, but face camera twd enemy; cast spell, and when initial sound/circle appears, wait half a second then lock on to enemy. It will travel fwd away from direction character is facing for a sec, then abruptly change direction mid-flight and travel twd enemy. Very useful! Just be aware that in dungeons, low ceilings will cause it to immediately detonate :(

It's slow, but I gave it a shot anyway. For a pure caster build that has tons of fp and nearly all flasks dedicated to fp, the consumption cost isn't bad. After playing around with it, I've been keeping a slot open for it constantly. It's not a go to for every situation spell, but it definitely has its uses. No enemy I've cast it on reacted to it as it was floating, so as long as they're in range of the explosion, they get hit. You can also use it to cast and run away. Because they won't try to get away or react until it explodes, it allows you to put some distance between you and the bad guy before he notices or before he arggos on you if you're using summons to hold arggo. The flames that it spreads on the ground do have decent stagger. So far I've used it to beat the litch dragon--no joke, to knock imps off of walls, pick off wraith callers, among other things. I've also laughed out loud several times as the imps fell off the wall, knocking off three fourths of their health, then get staggered to death in the residual flames. Fun times.

I wish they would increase its damage exclusively in PvP. If you somehow manage to get hit by this, you deserve to get oneshot
- Anonymous
This works surprisingly well against bosses, they dodge the initial cast, but ignore the actual projectile. So long as you can keep them close to it before it explodes, it allows you to reliably deal a decent chunk of damage without providing an opening.
- Anonymous
you can somewhat make use of it and use it to run with it into enemies
- Anonymous
It absolutely hilarious that you can completely absorb it into carian blades with carian retaliation... also very sad...

Don't sleep on this for PvE, when used the right way or comboed with other incants it's awesome. For example, you can cast it at the start a boss phase change, like Morgott's, when damage is reduced during his vomiting, and it'll explode at the end of the animation, doing the full damage. The incant does a lot of stance damage, too. I like to cast this, then follow up with either flame of frenzy or the horns crucible aspect, both which do a ton of stance damage and lock the enemy down until the flame can explode. This combo can shred stance. I used this strategy with the horns to instakill the bloodhound knight underneath volcano manor. The lingering flames are actually really good as well, especially for staggering smaller enemies or damaging slow ones. I cast this on a black knife and she kind of broke, the flames continually staggering her.
In PvP, it's less useful, but you can do some funny stuff like cast it into a wall so it explodes instantly in case someone rushes you. If you have the space and you cast it, it can pressure the opponent by making them unable to stand still for too long, or you can follow next to it to make yourself a lot harder to pressure. It can also encourage panic rolls, especially if you cast it after a riposte or burger flip, letting you roll-catch with your weapon or a free-aimed incant like flame of frenzy or the breath crucible incant. Though not being the strongest(I would love it was able to last longer and go farther), this spell has a lot of creative and useful applications.

I wouldn't call this incantation a straight garbage but since its labelled as a legendary spell, it should be more useful. The only good feature this spell has is the knock back when it explodes. Either reduce the fp cost, movement speed or damage, otherwise i would not consider to equip this spell.
- Anonymous
they should increase its damage specifically versus players. if you somehow get hit by it you deserve to get oneshot
- Anonymous
it has a niche use in 3v3 free for all battles, just throwing it out into the chaos and seeing what happens.
- Anonymous
Pretty useful in that you can make it explode immediately by casting it into a wall, like the pillars in Caelid colosseum
I find it very useful for stealth kills in PvE. You can cast it and then immediately start casting another spell like Frenzied Burst to double tap them before they get a chance to react. It's great against tanky enemies you can sneak up on like Omens.

I like to combine this with frozen lightning spear againt large targets
- Anonymous
can't even be used as a "get off me" spell because its super slow, has a very predictable explosion, and doesnt last long
- Anonymous
Increase its lifetime and make it a tiny bit faster. That way it can actually be used as a fight starter/pressure tool.
- Anonymous
This is true garbage. Even as a combo incant. Combo skills need a threat level. This can be outwalked. And it's not necessary a PvE... Fix faith legendaries
- Anonymous
They can reduce the cost all they want, but as long as it lasts about as long as a wizard host during coop its gonna be crap.
- Anonymous
Only good use I found for this spell is to cast it and flee in terror while fighting any erdtree avatar since the spell seems to work while you're facing the opposite direction from the target. Takes a nice chunk from its HP. Note: use Radagon's icon or you'll be swatted like a bug before you're done casting
- Anonymous
Patch 1.07 stated that "charged spell damage has been increased" but the spell can't be charged so I'm very confused.
- Anonymous
really needs to last longer. it moves so slow you can't really provide a lot of pressure while its active
- Anonymous
It feels like this spell is more of a situational pressure tool than anything. Like you cast this, and then cast other spells to keep up the pressure. But I do agree, the spell as it stands isn't really that great. At the very least amp up the range of the explosion.
Conceptually, it does look cool summoning a floating sun to decimate your enemies
- Anonymous
I don't see this being talked about anywhere, but this spell detonates after colliding with enemies bodies or walls. It can detonate instantly on tighter walls/low ceiling places. Keep it for graves, caves or tighter spaces on legacy dungeons, and elden stars for open field (as the light flashes gets nullified when colliding with walls). But if you are not running a pure faith char, rot breath versatility might makes it a better option on pvp.
- Anonymous
At least this is still somewhat usable on humanoid enemies, unlike elden stars...
- Anonymous
Okaaay....This spell isn’t that great. The giants seal boosts the damage, great. Said seal also boosts giants flame take thee! And flame fall upon them! Those two incantations are good. They also are charged spells, Godfrey Icon boosts those too. Flame fall upon them even got a buff in the recent patch. In other words, flame of the fell god, you’re not legendary
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
anybody know if this gets sucked up by eternal darkness spell?
- Anonymous
Does this even compare to Giantsflame Take Thee in any way other than looks? I don't mean to **** on it, but it seems really sub-par for a legendary spell that requires pretty significant investment in Faith to even use.

recommendations for re-balancing this spell, in order of priority
1) Allow the aoe to damage multiple enemies
2) increase the range
3) increase damage
4) lower FP cost

To everyone complaining, this is a PvP incantation. Best paired with Elden stars and triple rings of light to overwhelm your opponent from a distance the same way mages use ancient death rancor, Rykard's rancor and stars of ruin. Less experienced players will try to dodge and eventually get hit by some of the many projectiles, more experienced players will close the distance at which point you switch to Radagons rings of light, Blackflame ritual or Wrath of gold, you can also respond with regular weapon attacks if you aren't a pure caster.
- Anonymous
Does extremely low damage for using 2 slots. Very disappointing to get the Faith stats to use it and then immediately go back to using other incantations because this one is so ineffective.
- Anonymous
This miracle is another proof that this game was not fully tested. It's as useless as my ****.
- Anonymous
I guess I need more incant scaling - because this does extremely little. Night Maiden's mist appears to be similar in end effect, but deals damage in the 1500 range, costs less to cast, and only takes one slot.
Testing it on Albinaurics give very disappointing results.
- Anonymous
The only buff it needs is more range, as it’s damage it’s pretty decent, if they gave it that it would definitely live up to its legendary status and it’s two slot spell. As it is now, it sort of sucks
- Anonymous
I've been using this to take care of invisible scarabs since they die in one hit and the AOE pool is easy to set up. If this spell has any pve utility, this is a portion of it.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The best buff they could do for this is: give it the same range as Frenzied Burst, it detonates waay too soon before hitting the enemy. maybe a combination of Duration and Range.
- Anonymous
Cast this, Elden Stars, and Wave of Gold ash of war in quick succession. Laugh as your opponent dances and rolls frantically around the arena.
- Anonymous
Best use for this spell is enemy AI that input reads. It only dodges on input, and it can’t detect the actual hitbox itself. For that reason it’s good against stuff like Malenia, Radagon, and so forth. I wish it’s damage was increased though so it does do the same/less than giantsflame take thee, a much more universally usable spell with more applications.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I love this spell, I don't care what others say. However, it doesn't really live up to its name as a legendary incantation.
The flame itself also has a hitbox, I learned that the hard way when I lost 3/4th of my health with 60 Vigor trying to jump attack someone casting it.

- Anonymous
I'm liking this more and more the more I use it.
1. Cast it safely out of melee range
2. Get in their face to keep them distracted, particularly with a shield
3. It explodes, staggering tf out of them
4. Go ham on them with your melee weapon.
- Anonymous
I accidentally brought this to Godfrey's fight instead of Giantsflame take thee, that was a big mistake. Not only is it slower than molasses, it does less single target damage than giantsflame. Its AoE isn't that big anyway, so what pack are you gonna blow up with it?
- Anonymous
If you could cast two at once this would be perfectly balanced and actually more viable
- Anonymous
surprisingly good against malenia. with proper charm set up and giant hunt, reduce her HP half in my first attack.
of course she heals after that and im dying, but still a good spell
- Anonymous
This spell can hit enemies hiding behind covers and corners, both above and below you. Just cast it and watch it slowly go up to them, then hit through whatever cover they're behind. At high faith it tends to instakill them too.
- Anonymous
Kinda wish it would last as long as the Fire Giant’s version.
- Anonymous
its complete ass and desperately needs at least a much larger AoE to be viable. that said, i love this spell. theres just something about seeing a slow moving ball of fire that activates my primal urge to say "ooooo aaaaa".

After the (1.04) patch this Incantations was from terrible/worst territory to kind acceptable territory, but for a incatations that in theory was to be one of the legendary ones, it still quite unacceptable, even more considering how many other incatations outclass this easily and cost less to use.
Still need more rework to truely live your title of one of the lendegary spell of the game.

forbidden sun legacy has been tarnished, still needs a buff.
I think it should follow you as long as in the boss battle, maybe too op of a suggestion but still.

My key weapon for solo'ing Malenia, not for the damage but the knockdown, opening her up for some attacks, she doesn't bother to dodge unless you get too close or she's ready to counter with Waterfowl Dance.

I think this needs just a bit more buffing to be viable. Making it capable of hitting multiple targets would be what I think could elevate it to being a genuinely good spell.
- Anonymous
Needs to last about 3x as long. Then I could see it pairing well with elden stars.

After the patch that increased its damage and reduced the FP cost slightly, its decent for PvE. Knocks a lot of enemies down and does pretty good damage against mobs, but still terrible in PvP. Its way too easy to avoid and doesn't last very long. The opponent can see you cast this and just run a couple feet away, putting themselves in a position where the spell will automatically detonate before it can hit them.
- Anonymous
Buffed in 1.04 for increased damage. Patch notes claim decreased FP cost, but it still cost the same. It's still relatively low damage and not really all that good.
- Anonymous
So the buffs are nice and all; but the true issue with this incantation was its tracking and speed. This thing is basically a reverse Forbidden Sun; instead of fast tracking with a generous explosion, its supposed to be this pressuring tool that can lead to big openings or damage. Problem is; it doesn't last long enough to reach most of its targets, doesn't track well enough to deal with nimble targets, is easily avoided in PvP (even post nerfed flies still beat it as a pressuring incantation), and worst of all: it takes 2 slots to even use it. It's going to need some speed and tracking buffs before it can compete with any of the other fire incantations; and even on the 2-slot fire spells/incantations, you should just use Giantsflame; Take Thee or Rykard's Rancor.

still pretty trash post patch. needs more damage, range, and multi cast
- Anonymous
Casts way too slowly, costs way too much FP, small AoE. Garbage spell, shocked this didn't get any buffs in 1.03 because it desperately needs them.
- Anonymous
legendary my ass. 41 faith. slow af. my grandma can dodge it. mediocre damage.
- Anonymous
for some reason the explosion only damages one enemy, when thrown into groups. I've tried a few times and everyone gets knocked back and damaged by the lingering flames, but how unsatisfying is that explosion
- Anonymous
This thing wishes it could be Elden Stars, and even then it wouldn't particularly great.
- Anonymous
In terms of a buff this spell needs to have it's range greatly increased, so it can chase down foes over longer distances. You also need to be able to have two of these fireballs in play at any one time without your second cast automatically dispelling your first cast. Yeah, so basically give us the Fire Giant boss version of this spell please FromSoft.
- Anonymous
This spell is literally worse than standart fireball. High requires, need two slots, high fp use, slow, poor range, and damage isnt even that great to bother using it
- Anonymous
This is a pressure spell, to put some pressure on the oponent
I use this with Elden Stars and Pest Treads and the flame buff spell, if something lands it will make good damage
The oponent has to look for 2 slow moving spells and yourself
- Anonymous
This would be a real cool spell if it applied a debuff similar to full moon sorc, as it is now, its not extremely useful
- Anonymous
This spell is...pretty bad. Giantsflame take thee outperforms this is terms of AoE and Damage and costs way less. It takes too long to detonate as well.
I like the idea of this spell and love it's visuals but gods does it need a buff.
- Anonymous
This getting any love yet.. come on from balance your games...
- Anonymous
This spell knocks Melania on her a$$.
People here are highly underrating it.
If you use a shield, you cast it - then go stand next to the enemy while it explodes, then they often stagger by the field of effect - and you can do whatever else you want to combo.

Ive found it to be overall mediocre pvp and pve.
The one execption is a short window where you knock down knights and the recast is just fast enough to knock them back down.
- Anonymous
damn i think its be a new Forbidden Sun magic from DS2 but.....but....what is this ? its taking long time to cast and damage low speed low......Low spec. Genki Dama -_-"
The range is too short, the cast time is too long, the projectile is too slow, it takes 2 slots, costs too much and you can't even chain cast them because the first one disappears when you cast the second. Easily a contender for the most useless spell in the game.

For some reason I never got the incantation after defeating Adan. Anybody know a work around for it?
- Anonymous
Lets be honest even if they tried to make deal twice or three times the current damage I doubt anyone would use it cuz it's, slow and fcking ez to dodge even bosses in PVE dodges easily.

FP cost is 50 not 20. Would be alot more viable if it was 20 though.
most underrated malenia cheese in the entire game
