  • dragon icon 40px Dragon type
  • Poise can be broken, which allows players to perform a riposte
  • Hits to the head deals extra damage

The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example if an absorption is 60. 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number= less damage. An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

The resistance numbers is the buildup amount to trigger it. For example if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

Flying Dragon Greyll Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Flying Dragon Greyll:

  • Use the Spectral Steed Whistle to get and stay mounted to use the mobility to your advantage
  • Use the Rock Sling Spell and aim for the head to stun the boss.
  • Melee users should focus on attacking the dragon's feet, staying under them for short periods of time before creating some distance to avoid being hit and watch for more attack opportunities.
  • If the boss is breathing fire while you are safely underneath them, you can get some free hits on the head
  • When Flying Dragon Greyll falls over, head to the left side of their head to do a critical on their eye
  • Ranged users can stay mounted and distance themselves from the boss, running away whenever they start the fire breath, repeating until the boss is defeated.
  • There are many heights that ranged players can stand on around the outskirts of the bridge that can cause the dragon to perform strangely. The ranged fire breath can be avoided to some degree by being above the boss this way.

Melee Users

Staying mounted for the entire fight can help a lot due to having the mobility to move in and under the boss quickly when you need to or move far away quickly to be safe from their attacks. The double jump can be used as an emergency escape for the tail swipe attack to avoid the damage but at the cost of the mount, simply resummon them afterwards.Try to stay to the left side of the bridge from wherever you are facing the boss, the grounded fire breath attack starts spraying from the other side and the flying breath attack primarily hits on the right side as well. Don't move too far from the boss so that when Greyll starts their fire breathing attack, very visible from their mouth glowing red, you can quickly rush in to safely be underneath them while also free to attack them while they breathe fire.

Focus on dealing damage to the legs of the boss as these are the easiest hitzones to aim for. Greyll's head bobs and moves a lot during the fight and can be difficult to hit, even with jump attacks. Rush into and underneath the left shoulder of the boss whenever it is safe to do so and hit them in the legs before rushing past and out the other side. Don't stay under the boss for too long as this will make it difficult to watch for when the boss does the Tail Swipe attack or stomping attacks.

Flying Dragon Greyll has a tendency to have buggy abilities when fighting them near the edges of the bridge. Kite them back towards the center if you find it uncomfortable to deal with the boss here.

For melee users without a mount the general strategy is the same but with much less mobility that would otherwise let you avoid attacks completely. Stay close to and focus on damaging the feet of the boss, the head moves a lot and can be very difficult to land a hit on even with jumping attacks. Watch out for the tail swipes as this is a very difficult attack to dodge, it may be possible to dodge by rolling towards the head of the boss. Don't stay under the dragon for too long as the stomp attacks can easily hit you. Find windows to attack the boss when they use long attacks such as the dragon breath or when they just finish attacks with long ending animations. If Greyll starts their fire breath and you are too far away to quickly run under them, try rolling to avoid the damage or get behind a mound on the sides of the bridge to hide from the damage.

Magic and Ranged Users

Flying Dragon Greyll will be a long fight so make sure to keep track of the your Cerulean Flasks count and how much you will need for this fight. Beware of using slow charging attacks while unmounted as Greyll has multiple fast attacks they can unleash. This is a common source of death for casters. The Rock Sling spell can be used to great effect against Flying Dragon Greyll, aim at the head to get quick stuns on the boss, combine with the Meteorite Staff to improve the damage. Other attacks that are long ranged are good as well such as Glintstone Pebble or Loretta's Greatbow to maintain range on the boss while doing damage.

Ranged users may choose to fight this battle on foot or on mount. Fighting while mounted will give much better mobility to quickly get away from the breath attacks but fighting unmounted can allow for faster casting. If the boss decides to use the long fire breath attack simply run away then get back into range and continue to do damage. Attacking Greyll from behind is not recommended as this does less damage than simply hitting them from the front.

The Magic User strategy was tested on a lvl 45 Wretch with 40 Int 20 Mind, and 14 Dex. The items used were a +3 Longsword and the Meteorite Staff. Since Greyll will one shot you with any attack if you are a squishy mage it's recommended that you switch all flasks over to Cerulean for the best/worst case scenario.  If you run out of FP during the fight and want to continue fighting in this run you should switch over to the mounted strategy above as that will increase your survivability.

Another strategy ranged players can try is to use the different elevated areas outside the bridge, standing on them to gain height while attacking the boss from afar. The dragon breath from the boss does not track upwards very well so players can safely bombard the boss with damage.

Poison/Rot Arrows Cheese Method

Equip a bow and the max capacity of arrows with either poison or rot (i.e., serpent arrows or rotbone arrows). Consider wearing the Arrow’s Reach and Arrow’s Sting talismans; they will be helpful but not necessary. Get on your mount, stand at the edge of the bridge, move up as close as you need to make sure the arrows can reach dragon. Let loose. Rinse and repeat. When he is about to do his long-range fire breath, run back on your mount as far as you (this is why staying mounted is important). When he’s about to die, consider equipping the Golden Scarab talisman and consuming a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot for extra runes.

Flying Dragon Greyll Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Foot stomp Greyll will lift either foot and pause for a short time
before crashing it down either on the spot lifted or slightly forward.
 Move from the lifted foot.
Tail Swipe Greyll will twitch his tail and spin around swiping players with their tail Stay away from the boss to avoid the attack, it is difficult but not impossible to double jump on the mount to dodge the damage from the tail but the mount may be hit then.
It may be possible to dodge by standing under the chest close to the neck
Head Lunge Front facing attack telegraphed by him screeching at you while
moving neck. Charges forward slashing jaws from side to side.
Sprint on the mount or roll forward to quickly move forward underneath the boss and away from the head
Alternatively move away from the boss to get away from the attack
Fire Breath
Greyll will fly into the air then look down and breath fire down the right side of the bridge as they fly towards you.
There have been bugs reported where the fire breath goes crazy when the breath is too close to the edge
Stay to the left side of the boss to avoid this attack
Greyll breathes fire ahead of them when they fly up, so you can run past and under them to avoid the entire fire breath.
Stay away from the ends of the bridge to keep the boss away from there to avoid the attack bugging out.
Body Slam (Flying) Greyll will fly into the air and after a few seconds crash down on the players
position. Greyll can slam down right under themselves or fly forward a distance when slamming down.
Move away and stay moving to avoid the slam damage.
Roll or Double Jump with the mount to avoid the slam damage to stay close and continue damaging. If you are quick enough you can get a free hit on the head as he is recovering from landing
Spray Fire Breath Greyll will spray fire in front of them from their left to their right
Sometimes this is done after a jump backwards
Move away or roll to avoid the fire breath if they jump back to breathe fire
You can run underneath them while they are spraying left to right to be safe from the breath and freely attack them.
Homing Fire Breath

Greyll's mouth will glow red and flames start to appear.
Greyll will then fire a long fire breath with a lot of range aimed at the player following their movements.

If you are not too far away from the boss, one or two dragon lengths in distance, you may be able to get underneath the boss before the breath is launched.
The dragon usually breathes fire starting from their left to their right so once fire starts, so if it is not possible to get under their head in time it may be possible to get past and around their right wing to get behind them safely.
Alternatively while mounted you can run directly away from the boss to get away from and stay out of range of the breath.
If you are on foot and not able to make it under the boss in time, stay near the mounds on the sides of the bridge walls as you can crouch behind them to avoid the damage from the fire breath.

While I was fighting him he managed to get stuck on the geometry of the bridge and a tree mid flying/jumping animation, and after ten seconds of floating, he just died without me doing anything.

      • Anonymous

Defeated this guy at level 60-65 using Flame of the Redmanes on a Heavy Pike, with Latenna making sure his poise doesn’t regen. Had to tank some hits, Flamedrake Talisman helped a lot. Good way to get 80k runes.

        • Anonymous

Beat this guy at lvl 38 - flamedrake talisman and flame fortification incantation are must haves. Spam heavy attacks on his head and riposte - making sure to dodge his attacks. I used gold halberd which has amazing range.

          • go toward his left. upon seeing the breath that goes left to right (or right to left from your perspective), quickly switch to his right and get 3-5 hits in before dashing away so as to avoid his tail. if he does the super long straight breath either run away or attempt to get under him if you’re close enough. takes forever but it’s consistent and effective

            • Anonymous

So this guy appears to be a direct decendant of Greyoll, given the name similarities and proximity. Whats interesting is that he is guarding Gurranq and the Farum Great-Bridge. Its clear that color indicates a dragons' age so we know Greyll is recently matured (evidenced by the fact that the babies around Greyoll are brown, whereas she, the oldest of them all is pure white.) It makes me wonder if Greyoll had him guard their links to Farum Azula seeing as that is their safe haven. We know the dragons have some form of intelligence as Ekzykes hunted those that partook in Dragon Communion for revenge against those killing his kind, and Adula was smart enough to swear an allegience to Ranni and the Carian Royals, and learn magic

              • Anonymous

Just a renamed agheel in a worse arena at least the other dragons have unique breath attacks this guy has nothing unique

                • Anonymous

I was able to beat him by luring him to an area between the bridge and the site of grace. He got stuck and started doing the same walking movements over and over. He wasn’t even breathing fire or flying. So I went up on the cliff right above him and used a longbow+14 and regular arrows. Lock your aim on his head and use the mighty shot. I was able to get 422 damage with every arrow. Sometimes I was able to shoot him in the eye for over 500 damage.

                  • Anonymous

i personally think it would have been better to replace him with the black blade kindred that guards gurranq. And keep an ancient dragon at the kindred's place like in the trailer.

A little bit disappointed that this Dragon doesn’t have a special power. Maybe an upgraded or special Dragonmaw spell or something?

                      • Anonymous

Not even true , you can easily cheese him with the scarlet rotten breath and hiding behind the bridge wall , he'll walk back and forth, allowing you to rot him again , along with Grayoll and Radahn it's easy early runes

This is all that it takes to kill him. Just get the aggro, wait for him on the hill above the site of grace; he will get stuck there giving you the opportunity to put countless headshots in. If you don't mess up with the shots you should be able to kill him this way. I had to deal the finishing blow myself because I messed up a little and I didn't have cerulean flasks allocated, so I had to make do so to speak

Easy way is using rotten breath incantation and run away till rot ends. rot deals about 2000 damage, so 2 times and some arrows do the trick.

Idk where they're getting the health values for this but it has WAY more than 2200 health. About 800 barely did more than a sixth of the bar.

                                      • If you fight Flying Dragons by performing horseback archery, then this is basically Agheel v2. More health, higher damage, but same deal.
Equip a good bow, plenty of arrows, Arrow's Sting Talisman + Arrow's Reach Talisman. Keep your distance, watch your footing so you won't fall off the map. Bait him off the bridge. Shoot the head when he's approaching you in between attacks, shoot the body when he doesn't. Won't even take too long.

Bleed resistance seems to be incorrect. It should be closer to 400~500. Bled a single time during the entire fight and I was able to thoroughly keep pressure on it and get about 11-14 hits in power stance both bleed off at same time on a few occasions.

Stayed on a cliff near the bridge and just cast night maiden’s mist every now and then. Took about 10 mins or so for it to die.

It's harder for him to run away than the other dragons, so this is a good chance for melee fighters to practice posture breaking dragons. Bonk him on the head, and stab him in the eye. Repeat until you get runes.

This was the easiest boss in the game, he took flight to crash on me, missed the bridge and died of fall damage.

                                                • Anonymous

If you're underleveled or just hate the idea of fighting on the bridge you can cheese the encounter by going to the cliffs next to the "Farum Greatbridge" Site of Grace and using any form of range attack that arcs over the rocks so that you're completely safe from any of the breath attacks.

The fastest and most reliable combination I found was to use any type of bow to get Poison/Scarlet Rot to tick while repeatedly casting Rock Sling. After 3-5 casts Greyll will usually fall down as some of the rocks hit the head which lets you reapply any status effects without having to worry about the breath attacks.

Consider allocating all your flask charges into Cerulean Tear as you will be casting a lot of Rock Sling and healing isn't needed at all as you will most likely instantly die in the case that you get hit by any of the breaths.

If you're able to cast Comet Azur then it's possible to nuke the boss from the same cliffs at a slightly different angle near the trees every time it tries to lunge towards you. Alternatively you can just go to the bridge, use a tanky summon near any of the roots and jump on the braziers to cast. This way the boss will usually waste a few breaths on the summon when the encounter starts and with good luck the roots will terrain block the breaths which gives you even more time to channel spells.

I ran underneath and rotted it with rotten breath. I then ran back to the graced side and got on the rocks. There is a spot where you can hide behind and not get hit by the fire. I spammed meteorite and chugged cerulean tears. I had either the talisman to boost damage at full health or the sorcery booster one. By ran I meant rode torrent.

yknow, i like, for the most part, fighting dragons in this game, as horseback makes it actually feel pretty fun and cool...i DONT like fighting huge enemies with flame aoes on tiny, small strips of platform that you can't maneuver around.
idk why they keep doing this in this game. putting you in really obnoxious environments to fight enemies that would be significantly more fine to fight in a wide open space :/

So I encountered him very early via the portal. He flew on top of the tree above the site of grace, got wedged between the cliff and tree, got stuck in his falling animation for 10 whole seconds before he landed, and died instantly.

fought this guy when literally every one of his attacks one shot me except for the odd 1hp remaining after getting grazed by fire breath. strat is horseback with uchi(dealt like 100 damage per swing lol) hit the legs and stay in his belly area to avoid tail swipes. if he moves forward for tail swipe follow him and stay in belly area, if he flies, dash towards his tail and youll avoid both the body stomp and the sweeping breath attack. and the rest is patience, good luck!

Would be probably easiest boss in the game if it was not set on the stupid bridge. Now you just get stuck into everything and camera doesn't work.

Gained 9 levels worth of souls from killing it.... just kept on the horse by it's right leg, would not dismount even for finishers as it's hits would take 80% off my hp. Took me a while to chip at the huge health pool, but all in all a very easy fight.

Took three runs of poison and a couple pot shots. Just make sure to hide far enough away to out range his flame breath as it reaches pretty far into the rocks.

I used the Moonlight Veil Art and completely mowed him hitless after trying the Meteorite on him and missing completely, so it's very doable.

You shouldn't need but 1 crimson. Recommend having highest magic attack you can build yourself up to. From starting point use torrent and bait him to the opposite side. Get on the dead dragon heap to the left and stand on top. Find a good spot that his fire can't hit you and spam Rock Sling. You may need to test a few spots first. This could probably work with BOWS too. Happy hunting!

And you can hit the very tip of his tail without starting the fight because is so long. The tail is located near the Fort faroth bonfire.

Easy to reapply as well because once you get close enough with torrent he does the big flame attack which was punishable

I advise that you either bring alot of cerulean flasks or arrows to this fight as it will take awhile.
